  1. I fail to see the relevance of that question given I was speaking about my experience within SL.
  2. I find this comment amusing because in my, admittedly personal, experience it's the non-Americans who can't seem to stop talking about Trump and the upcoming election. As an American, I find it all so tiresome.
  3. Not a fan of vocal DJs. Too many of them are in love with the sound of their own voice or think they're doing a morning radio show with jokes and funny voices. Don't even get me started on the ones that talk over the music to greet or thank people for tips. If there was ever a way to ensure I don't tip you, that's it. I go to clubs to hear the music, the less I hear from the DJ, the better. As for where they stand, I couldn't care less.

Does this code of not spending money on virtual items also go for other intangibles like TV, movies, concerts or even tips for the waitstaff? I know it sounds like I am trolling (and I am a little) but I am seriously curious about why people would have a hard time justifying purchases in SL. What makes it different than other types of entertainment that warrants such condescending disdain? I've been in SL since 2006, in that time I've spent plenty of money on quite a bit of junk in SL. At this point in my Second Life there's nothing left that I care to spend money on and I am moving all of my assets out of SL back into the real world where they're not in danger of vanishing the moment LL decides to cut their losses and shutter SL. It was with that frame of mind that I answered the original question. I hope that answered your question.
  5. I'd cash it out on the Exchange and spend that money on actual goods, not virtual ones.
  6. I use Virtual DJ but that's not free. A lot of DJs will tell you to use SAM but I consider that overkill and it's definitely not free. If you want free, try Mixxx, it's a lot like Virtual DJ or Winamp with the Shoutcast DSP plugin.
  7. If they're on your friend list but not appearing on your dashboard list at all it's likely because they're hiding their online status from you and are online. Amusingly, unlike the viewer, the dashboard won't show them as offline when they are online, it just hides their name entirely.
  8. Referring to them as "Goon Squad" isn't necessarily a tell. Goons are active in quite a few MMOs and their exploits get discussed on various forums so it's possible to be familiar with them even if you are new to SL.
  9. No one here can honestly answer that question for you. You need to contact LL about it. Now.
  10. No, punk's not dead it's just pining for the fjords. Social Scene is usually dead except on weekends, they tend to run on UK time so they're there in the afternoon eastern US time. I also occasionally DJ there late at night, (we're talking somewhere around 2am eastern US time) but not too many people are awake at that hour. You should join the group, if people are DJing they will send out a notice. As for other punk places, if you find any active ones by all means post them as they're rather rare in SL.
  11. I use IM unless their profile specifically states to send a notecard in which case I will grudgingly send a notecard instead. IM has the advantage of being sent to their email address (assuming they have this enabled) whereas notecards will only send a notice that they've received inventory so it's much easier to read IMs via email while offline.
  12. The listener in your attachment is set to only listen for the specific "Here primmy primmy!" string, your summoning script is sending "summon" over the channel so your listener event isn't being activated. Make both strings the same and it should work.
  13. Yeah, definitely a trackball. I use a laptop as my primary system and a trackball is a necessity for me. I use the Logitech M570, it's decent. Don't know about the others.

Instead of spouting off trite forumite indignation, why not email him and see what info there is? For the umpteenth time, let me remind theformumite naysayers to the OP, this is NOT your forum. Have you got that? Are you sure, now? You don't want me to maybes repeat it? You are aware it is a forum for everyone to participate in? You sure? Ok, then. Crosses fingers, and faceplams. As someone that isn't a regular on these forums I'll just say this: Go watch his video. If you find anything in that video that you didn't already know and consider bloody obvious to anyone with even a passing familiarity with computers then you are the type of person that probably should email him for more "tips."
  15. This thread is a good example of why being an introvert, or antisocial, isn't a bad thing. Entirely too many people in SL are in it for the social drama, forming their little cliques and sniping at one another. Don't play their game, OP. There's no need to. Find what you enjoy and do it. Friends will come naturally in time.
  16. Even if Shoutcast servers will "no longer be listed or made public" that has absolutely nothing to do with our ability to use them to stream in SL. I assume you are referring to Shoutcast's YP server which acts as a directory of Shoutcast servers which, again, has absolutely nothing to do with DJs streaming in SL because in SL you enter the server's domain name or IP address directly into the venue's parcel media settings so there is literally no danger of anyone in SL losing the ability to listen to a DJ's stream. You claim you know some SL DJs that are actually concerned about this, to that I'd say they need to learn more about the systems they are using to broadcast before jumping to conclusions and panicking over nothing. As for that Shoutcast thread you linked in a subsquent post, they are discussing internet radio stations which would obviously be affected by a YP shutdown as they rely on it to gain listeners. Their concern is legit but it has nothing to do with DJs streaming in SL for the reasons stated above.
  17. This is the biggest "making a mountain of a molehill" topic I've seen all week. Do you even know any SL DJs, Gayngel? I do and I happen to be one myself. The only reason anyone uses Winamp as a broadcaster is because it has the singular advantage of being free. Most SL DJs prefer to use SAM or VirtualDJ or literally anything else other than Winamp because they offer more features like crossfading and mic input. As for the DNAS, do you think we're all running our own servers? Hardly, most of us rent access to them from server providers inworld. Will those providers have to switch over to Icecast due to this? That's highly unlikely but even in the event they they do it makes very little to no difference to the DJs as switching from Shoutcast to Icecast requires, at most, a click of a button inside their broadcaster program.
