  2. It's real. You can even spot a "blurry" person in the background as you pan around and zoom in. The same guy has pics all over the net.

People like me who spent thousands of dollars, and a manifold of that in hours, on building up and decorating entire sims. To dismiss their loss the way you do is rather bizarre (though it matches your 'indifferent' sniley perfectly). Heck, I spent the last 2 days alone on upgrading my wardrobe/avi. I can't even fathom how much more time went into *creating* all that stuff I bought. All of that will be gone, for ever, like teardrops in the rain. Anyone even remotely invested in SL (beyond the most superficial of experiences) will feel that loss. You have agreed to the TOS. Did you read it thoroughly? If you did you would know that SL is not a safe vault where anything ever created or bought would stay for ever. Everything can dissappear for any reason or no reason at all. We have agreed and accepted that risk; everything in SL is and has always been on temporary basis. That's the reality. This is not dismissing anybody's loss - it's just the fact of things. http://lindenlab.com/tos 9.2 Linden Lab provides the Service on an "as is" basis, without express or implied warranties, and all Content, Linden Dollars and virtual goods have no guarantee or warranty of any compensable value. LL having the right to take it away from us does not detract, one iota, from the resulant loss felt. In fact, the two aren't even related. Where the disconnect lies is people acting surprised by the fact their purchased pixels are not permanent.

The semicolon is basically a glorified comma, nothing else. The semicolon is used in this paragraph (correctly) to divide items in the list because one of the items itself (item #1) contains commas. The semicolon is there simply to clearly divide the specific items the same as a comma would.
  6. Perhaps he was fined out of existance for distributing movies he had not acquired the rights for.
  7. I had several IM's in world not go to email in the last week or so, and when I checked settings and spam trap, all was as it should be. Don't know if it is related.
  8. When LL changed the TOS last year with updated conditions about rights to content, it caused a major uproar with pages and pages of threats and hand wringing and predictions of theft by LL. Well, the TOS has been changed again, pretty clearly spelling out that LL only has rights in as far as pertains to running the service. I would think there would be celebration, or at the very least recognition of the changes.

News flash for the naive, Second Life will close one day, no matter what else happens. You will some day lose your stuff. If you spent money in Second Life and thought it would last forever, you were spending foolishly and only have yourself to blame.

  11. angeliaeyes wrote: Why cannot Lindens just put ok this is what is consider of gaming skill not just direct us back to the reading links. Because that would put the liability back on LL, and they don't want it. The liability is being purposely put on the creators and operators. You will never get the answer you want from LL, only from legal representation that you solicite to interpret the TOS provided by LL. End of story.
  12. kiramanell wrote: I stand to lose it all. And this was always the case. Did you really think SL would stay open indefinitely? If you did, then you spent foolishly.
  13. SosiaalinenKokeilu wrote: So, does this mean you have to apply for these licenses too Linden Lab? I mean you run Linden Realms. A game in which you need a certain amount of skill, in order to get a cash payout? Linden Realms requires no payment of Lindens to participate in.
  14. I agree there will be losses, but they should be expected losses. That's the thing with pixel possessions, when the power is cut, they are no more. You cannot expect the power to stay on forever. SL has already outlasted many predictions of gloom and doom, and it will probably weather this one as well, but not indefinitely.
  15. If the land is in your name, and obtaining a fee from the machines being there, I would confidently say you better license as an operator. What the lab is doing here, is buffering themselves from legal responsibility. You need to get a lawyer to define your legality in relatiionship to LL's new TOS, because you are the one who will need that lawyer to defend you should you be accused of running an illegal gambling operation. This is the essence of what LL is doing. They are not going to define it for you, they are not going to be your legal defender. They have provided the guidelines for your lawyer to form a decision, and they will not go beyond this.

  19. anitaharlow wrote: 2) i think that IF the LL assume some good graphic designer, it will be able to create a real masterpiece. if WE are able to do this why a graphic designer could not able to do this? simply they (i.e. LL ) don't want!!!! The thing that makes SL unique and what it is today, is that the world was not shaped by one company's vision of what it should be. It became what the residents and creators wanted it to be. It evolved naturally by the melding of the imaginations and desires of thousands of people over time. LL made the canvas, they provided the tools, they are not the artists. We are the artists, and the resulting art is what we created. No company could do this, no matter how many "professionals" they hired, it would limit the creation.
  20. I have heard of people doing such, and to my knowledge the fact that someone has to pay in order for a chance to win is what defines "gaming." I am not that knowledgeable on the new sploders though, just the old style pay and play.
  21. I think people are probably overreaching by including contest boards, building contests, and owner-sponsored sploders, etc. If you don't have to pay in to participate, then I would not think it approaches the "gaming" designation, and any payout is simply a gift between avatars.
  22. Stamango wrote: anything you buy on SL will at some point be worthless This fact has always been true. It should not be a surprise to anyone.
  23. You cannot have a co-owner of a sim. Only one person will have billing information with Linden Lab and be responsible for paying for the sim, and therefore will be the ultimate owner. Be wary, no matter how good of friends you are, things change (especially where money is involved) and one of you may just find yourself half owner of nothing. You can designate a co-owner of a group if it is group land. Again, be forewarned, that once someone is made a group owner, they cannot be removed from the role unless they remove themselves. Same as above, if friendship fails, disastrous consequences can occur, as group owners have far reaching powers over group owned land.
