I just had it 15 mins ago with one of my friends, this time i was at 511 and only 30 avis in region.

Place this info and attached evidence on the bug tracker issue.  That is exactly what happens... online friends show offline until an IM chat is initiated then they instantly turn to online.   The sim servers are NOT performing an initial check at login time to only SOME avatars... and this problem seems to roam from avatar to other avatars.  It plagued me for 2 weeks and now it just resolved for me 3 days ago.

  2. The problem magically disappeared for me 3 days ago.  I did nothing ... it just started working for my main avatar account.

I got a response from LL support on my personal support ticket I created several days earlier (not the bug tracker) telling me that although there was nothing she could do to fix my issue , she saw i opened a very detailed bug tracker issue which LL will use to continue the problem diagnosis.  They were aware of the issue and working on it.

But the funny thing is that it started working and has continued to work since that day when she closed my ticket :)

But everyone that is having the issue still, comment on the bug tracker with the details of your experience and follow the bug to show interest.

  3. I wonder if it's related to the number of friends?  I have an alt with only 4 friends and its having no issues.   I could see how a region server would be stressed out when an avatar logs in on that region and and wants the server to provide an update of 800 friends being online.

What i don't get is why after 14 years and my avatar being well over 600 friends for the past several years did it start consistently hitting me about 2 weeks ago?  Its not as if it works some times and not others right now.  Its happening all the time for the past 2 weeks.

  4. I have a suspicion that in order to take lag off overburdened sim servers they might have placed a restriction on when initial login friend online checks are performed.... if an avatar has more than xxx friends they don't perform the initial check.  If this theory is correct then they placed this new condition in about 2 weeks ago because I have had over 800 friends for over a year.

  5. Yes ... it doesn't matter the viewer.  I tested the bug on both the firestorm viewer and the latest updated LL SL viewer.   Its a bug that I think is spreading and it seems something gets set on your avi account that tells the server at login time not to initially check and report all online friends.

Post a comment of your experience on the bug tracker bug I created today.   Your comment should simple explain you have the same bug and details of your experience... like when you first noticed it.

This bug is tracked with this JIRA issue: BUG-232037.

It happens systematically 2 days and 21 hours after each sim restart in my home sim, and is darn annoying (since it means the sim gets restarted thrice a week: on rolling restart and twice after it, to ”fix” this missing-friends-on-login issue).

I regularly nag Lindens (@Rider Linden and @Simon Linden) at the SUG . Sadly, and despite the added burden it imposes on SL support (with the resulting many sim restart requests), it does not seem to be very high on LL's priority list. ☹️

Feel free to nag with me (post in the JIRA, come and complain at the SUG, etc) !...

    Hey Henri,

I logged into the LL JIRA and the BUG-232037 you posted on this exact issue.  I Added myself to follow and i wanted to add a comment to the bug reporting all my details but I cannot figure out how to add a comment to the bug.  It also shows that this BUG has still not been assigned.  :(

  7. I just know I never had this issue until it started showing up a few weeks ago - just a couple times then disappear... now for the past week its the NORM and its rare that when i log in i see any friends ONLINE.  And I also know that its not hitting everyone as i asked a few of my friends if they see the same problem and they say no.  Today I logged in and all my friends that were online were showing online.  I was hoping YEAH MAYBE THEY FIXED IT.... but tonight i logged in again and NO FRIENDS ONLINE.  :(

Even before i logged in tonight .. I spent over an hour this afternoon removing over 50 of my oldddd friends I havent talked to in a long time.  I also deleted Calling cards thinking maybe its just I have too many friends.   But sadly tonight the problem appeared.   So i am at a loss why my account sees the issue but not my friends.

    ITS SOOOOO DAMNED FRUSTRATING!!!

  8. I am sure there might have already been posts about this extremely annoying inworld bug that seems to have become a daily consistent problem the past week, but has there been any update or progress by LL on fixing the issue where none or very few of your friends are showing ONLINE unless they IM you or you IM them... or slowly more and more friends show up online but not all?

I have asked the Firestorm support group about it and they said its a well know bug and apparently LL is aware of it but they dont know what progress there has been on fixing this bug.  Others on the group also chimed in how annoying it is.  I normally have about 60 80 of my friends showing online but now its none to about 10 or more depending how long i stay logged in.

I have tried several tricks to try to make the SL Servers report online status to my viewer - like relogging, jumping to very quiet sims, clearing cache....  No JOY.

    Exhibit Bio:

Toy strives to create artworks with a unique perspective, or a mind-holding composition / manipulation, or that expresses a message if you analyze it enough. As such, he is happiest with his art if it accomplishes all three.

Toy has transformed the Gallery space into an amazing exhibit of his work and style. This is a beautiful showcase of Toysoldier Thor’s artistic Journey to date!

Earlier this month Toy became the first known SL Artist to transform one of his SecondLife Mesh Art sculpture "Shattered" to RL as a Bronze Cast.  Toy was honored that CEO Ebbe Altberg was the first to purchase one of these limited edition bronze casts.  Only 13 were cast and all were sold.

Come to the Gallery to explore Toy's journey of transforming an SL artwork to RL Bronze.

You can also read Toy's recent blog post of this art journey :  Toy's Blog - "Transforming Mesh Art into RL Bronze"

  10. I would appreciate if you know of anyone in SecondLife that has created a 3D mesh art sculpture and transformed it into a Bronze poured casting process (not 3D printing of a model - regardless of the material like bronze powder), please point me to this individual.

Yes i am fully aware that all 3D mesh objects existing in SecondLife come from an actual digital 3D model and therefore can and likely have been 3D printed in what ever 3D printed material available.  I am NOT talking about that.

Again... please point out any other SL Mesh Artist that has transformed their SL Art Sculpture into an ACTUAL BRONZE CAST Statue / Sculpture.  I would be appreciative if you do know of this Artist and their work similar accomplishment.

  11. So Villota's original SecondLife mesh art sculptures were transformed into Bronze statue art sculptures?

I didn't state that I would be the first to transform SL content to RL content... I am sure several have in countless forms.  In fact my SL 2D wall art and SL photo art has been transformed and I sell in my RL as Canvas and watercolor art for over two years now and even have been exhibited.  I know many other artists in SL that have as well.

But I will check if Villota has created SL mesh sculpture art and transformed/sells it at bronzed art sculptures in RL.  If so, then I am not the first.  I did say "possibly" since I dont know all that is going on in SL... its just that I have been involved in the SL art community for some time and I have not yet heard anyone of my fellow artists that have done this.

Thanks for the lead to investigate.

  12. For the past few months I have done a lot of research and even experimentation on how to feasibly accomplish a personal SL artistic goal to transform the SecondLife 3D Mesh Art Sculptures I exhibit and sell inworld to actual real life fine art bronze sculptures to offer my art customers.

This week I feel confident enough to pull the trigger on my plan to make this happen.  I formally announced my plan and offering to a limited number of interested individuals to order a limited edition bronze casting run of my SHATTERED artwork.

    Shattered-Polished Painted-674x501.jpg

I have already 3D printed a prototype of this mesh art sculpture to evaluate the model.  It looks GOOD TO GO! This was a lower resolution plastic model that i smoothed and spray painted to get a rough feel and there were no flaws on this model to be concerned about.

But I wanted a true metal / bronze sculpture.  There are 3D printing services - like Shapeways that i actually uploaded this model to.  They allow a model to be printed in a couple dozen materials from plastic to platinum, but the cost per print was too high and I felt its not the same as a true casting of a sculpture.

So looked further and found what I believe is an affordable metal casting solution with a foundry that actually can receive 3D STL models and transform them to bronze and stainless steel castings.  After intense research, reference checking, and asking lot of technical and financial logistics questions, I feel confident to proceed with what I believe might be a SecondLife first.

I will have my offering open until end of February or until I get 20 participants.  Then execute the order.  I already have TWO including Ebbe Altberg participating in this exciting SL Art Journey.  I am excited at the thought of seeing my SL Mesh art become Real Life statue art.

  13. Back in 2011 someone somehow with some power got my "Toy's Art Gallery" to be added to the SecondLife Destination Guide.  That was great.

    http://secondlife.com/destination/mirages-of-art

    BUT....

Shortly after in 2012 I moved to another sim and majorly expanded and redesigned my art gallery.  This move rendered my Destination Guide useless - pointing to the wrong SLURL and the main image outdated.

After two request to LL I finally got the SLURL changed, they finally did change the SLURL on my entry in the guide but not the main outdated image.

QUESTION:  How can I get a full refresh of my Destination Guide entry so that the description, main image and SLURL are up to date?

  14. WOW JJCCC!  Very impressed with the Machinima of my art gallery!!  I was learning machinima for the first objective of creating a video of my art gallery in SL.  I loved your video you made.

Thank you ... i really enjoyed watching it. And yes... the sim where my art gallery is on can be laggy - its mainland and LL doesn't give a lot of resource horsepower to those sims.  It prevents me from having Art receptions at my gallery as the sim would crash if I have over 35 avatars.... I had a concert there once and at 40 the sim crashed.

I will surely investigating the frame blending software even though the FRAPS surely has solved the lag issue.

  15. Today June 8th @ 3pm SLT - backed by many requests - the Elysium Dance Troupe will be doing an encore performance of their Art Begats Art interpretive dances that they performed at the Paris Metro Art Gallery for Toysoldier Thor's art exhibit opening in early May.

featuring the amazing emotional artistic dances by the

    Elysium Amphitheatre Dance Troupe

Each dance member selected one of Toy's artworks from his gallery Fashion Dress Photo - Paris Metro Exhibit-512.jpgand created a full choreographed dance, selected music, and built an entire stage for her performance.  All the inspired art from all dances are the artworks on exhibit at Paris Metro !

Not only will this be one of the most amazing Art Exhibit Opening Gala's to be experienced but of course there is the beautiful special gift available to each Gala event guest, the latest release of Paris Zsun's Artist Series fashion where her fashion is blended with a selected artwork texture from Toy's exhibit.  Early comments have said this is possibly the best design Paris has ever created from the Artist Series.

Full details and history and even video of the event and the dances previously performed can be read & seen at the blog link below:

Hopefully LL will make a statment soon but i was told by LL that they had not been using a vulnerable version before the 'bug' was found so i guess they were using a modded version already

OR.... LL is so far behind keeping their software up to date that they never updated their OpenSSL code in about 2 years and are using a version prior to version 1.0.1.  That would not surprise me.

Thanks for posting this. I tested SecondLife.com and

and they show as fixed (or uneffected).  But that's just two domains and only show the current state, not what came before.

    Thanks Asil,

And yes... its very important for LL to formally state that they were NEVER IMPACTED by the vulnerability as opposed to they were but they patched the bugs. If it was that they recently fixed the bug then SL users should change their passwords (which they should do frequently as good practice).

Also, I would hope LL reports that they have checked their entire system (all components - not just the common front facing secondlife.com domains and respective web servers).  The code should be removed from any system that uses the openSLL for encryption - especially those exposed to the internet in any way.
