    HipHop in SL - Where is it?

    HipHop is not my thing but if I was passionate about it and didn't find many DJ's or clubs playing it, I'd research the desire for it and if the desire and public response warranted it, I'd open my own club.  You can hire DJ's to play that type of music (and I use that term loosely here lol) and most will work for their own tips.  Your investment would be rent (unless you already own enough land to place a club), structures/furnishings and advertising.  It's just a suggestion to give some thought to.  

    What do you think of this system AV?

    I guess I don't totally dislike system avi's but I personally wouldn't go back to wearing one.  I enjoy having realistic features and taking advantage of the strides that creators have made so that we can now enjoy the "better things in SLife" as far as our avi bodies are concerned.  Whenever I go to clubs I'm amazed at how many people still have system avi's, flexi hair, club hands and bulging eyeballs so I guess you're not entirely outdated. I don't judge but I do laugh to myself as I remember what I once looked like.  I don't think you can ask if it would make a difference in the people you'll meet or the jobs because everyone has different preferences.  I certainly would speak with you in SL if I met you but I'd never date you if you were a guy and you hadn't updated your avi.  That's just me, though, and I speak for no one else.

    8 years is a long time! Welcome back and be sure to take things one step at a time and some deep breaths because a lot has changed. I think it's different when you've never been in SL before, opposed to someone who has been and left and then returns. I'd say one of the main things that changed (and changed how we look) is that everything is mesh.

    I rarely give it much thought.  I wear what I think will look good and only sometimes do I get floored by how high my complexity is.  I won't change what I'm wearing but I am mindful of it, and will wear another outfit (hair) with less complexity if I'm attending a crowded event or club.

    I've been on for almost 13 years and my look is always changing but I love how I look right now. Maybe you should visit a shape store and pick a look that you like. You can always tweak it here and there as long as it's mod. It would be a good starting point for you.

    Movement Issue

    All the settings are the same as they are on my work computer and it's still not working.  I'm out of options other than uninstalling the newest version of FS which is the only difference between my work and home computers.  The reset camera position on av movement is checked.  I don't have MoveLock enabled.  I'm in a panic as to why it won't work on my home computer. 😕

    Yes.  I use Firestorm on my work computer and I tried the technique I was speaking of and it works there.  So I'm going to take screenshots of my Preferences there and compare them to the ones that are at home.  Unless of course FS messed things up with their latest release.  I've updated FS at home and not at work.  Crossing my fingers.

    I should clarify that I can eventually move so that's not an issue. It's just that before when I'd face the cam in front and hit arrow up, I'd not only turn around but I'd start walking in that direction too. Now when I hit the up arrow the only thing that moves is my cam back to its normal position behind me. Then I can walk.... 

    I do spend a lot of my time taking pics so it's very possible I changed a setting in phototools but not sure which one.

    I used to be able to place my cam facing my avatar and then using my up arrow I'd turn around and start walking.  Now when I do this my cam just flips to the backside of my avatar and I don't move.  Does anyone have any idea what setting I may have changed.  I used to use this technique when I was modeling in SL and it made life easier to just cam around and arrow up to seamlessly turn around and walk back down the runway when I had a turn to make.  Here are my Movement Settings in Preferences but I don't see anything here that would alter the way the arrow key worked before.  Any suggestions are welcome!

    Hover Height

    I am constantly having to adjust my hover height everywhere I go in SL.  When my feet are high above the ground, I adjust them only to have to lift them back up because the next place I tp to I'm sinking in the ground.  It would be nice to have a setting that would allow for automatic hover height based upon where you land, tp to, etc.  I also find that if I adjust myself on my computer at work, I'm at a different height when I log on at home.  Same viewer just different heights.  Any suggestions so I don't have to keep adjusting my avie constantly?

    I remember back in the day a few places to go and buy things such as Bits N Bobs to get sex pose balls. I think they had dance balls too like waltz and maybe tango. 

    Sine Wave was fell on by an avalanche of people because they came out with new and exciting dances that weren't jerky. 

    If you owned a club or were looking for some cool gadgets like a welcome rug then Alicia Stella Designs was the place to visit. 

    If you owned rentals then Hippo Technologies was going to be the answer to your prayers. It really was a great creation and helped so many people. 

    Script writers in general were in high demand. Without them and their understanding of LSL our lives in SL would have been a lot different.

    This happened to me a few times.  I never knew there was a name for it though. 

    I personally used to thoroughly enjoy the shoe up the butt syndrome that would happen every so often.  You'd just have to relog for the shoe to return to its proper place on your foot.

    They've been shut down for many, many years.  Again, it's unfortunate you were left thinking that all modeling in SL was how you experienced things at CWS.

    First of all, this is a post from 2012.  Second, CWS never, ever had a good reputation as either a SL modeling academy nor as a SL modeling agency and it's unfortunate that this blogger never asked around before entering the abyss otherwise known as CWS.  

    I've been modeling in SL since 2010 and granted there were poorly run agencies/academies (and still are - I won't name names!) but there were many numerous and highly respectable ones too.  AVENUE, Modavia, SCALA, Ferosh, come to mind as a few of the really, really great ones.  SCALA is still around and recently produced a show for a few combined designers.  Ferosh only publishes a fashion magazine a few times a year now both for designers and sometimes a creative issue. https://issuu.com/feroshsl/docs/ferosh_spring_2019_issue  

    One of the main reasons agencies/academies died is because of events in SL.  The cost to put on a fashion show back in the day was expensive.  Now designers can keep their overhead low by renting a booth at an event and make far more money than they can at a fashion show.  Not only that, but the exposure at an event is by far much more broader than it was at a fashion show which was really only attended by the folks in the modeling community.  While this scenario accounts for the demise of many agencies/academies, places like CWS closed because of lousy business practices and mismanagement.

    I will agree that many people who enter competitions take it very seriously.  They want to win.  They want to win a title.  The title is more important than winning.  That hasn't changed in the 9 years I've been a SL model and that is why I only ever entered a contest once.  I never considered myself the beauty pageant type but I had entered because a friend dared me.  I didn't win.  I moved on.  Now I mainly blog and contribute to a few SL fashion magazines such as Ferosh and VersuS as a stylist and photographer.  I also still teach aspiring models how to blog whenever an agency asks if I'd be interested in teaching the course.  

    Say what you will about modeling in SL but what you can't take away from any of us was the friendships we made and still nurture after all these years.  Back in the day, it was fun and inspiring to be a SL model and I won't ever forget when it was at its peak.  To sit back, read this article and then judge it as the end all, be all for all things SL modeling, isn't the same as having actually been involved and knowing about it firsthand.
