  1. RenderGlowMinLuminance - Any value below 1.000, lower is stronger. Requirements: Glow must be enabled. This makes bright Objects glow automatically, without Glow being set in the Build menu. (Even bright land and Avatar Skins can glow this way.) I'd recommend anything between 0.600 and 0.800 to keep it fairly subtle. RenderSSAOEffect - X: 0.400 Y: 0.000 to 1.000 Requirements: RenderDeferred and SSAO must be enabled. X controls how strong the Ambient Occlusion is, a value of 0.400 instead of 0.800 makes it more notable without overkilling the effect, though you will see some noise in the effect, this is due to how cheap the SSAO is in Second Life. Likely to keep SSAO from eating all system resources. The Y value controls the Saturation, the higher the value, the more it blends with the Object the effect is seen on, 0.000 makes the effect colourless. Values far beyond 2.000 can sometimes give some funky effects. RenderSSAOFactor - 0.400 Requirements: Same as above. Standard is 0.300, the lower this value, the closer two surfaces must be to each other to make the Ambient Occlusion occur, lower is more realistic, but I think Linden Research sad it a bit too low, but only a little. 0.400 Should do the trick, nice balance between minor and overkill. RenderSSAOScale - 200.000 Requirements: Same as above. Standard is 500.000... Which is too much in my opinion. This value controls how much the darkening effect of SSAO becomes spread out, I use 200.000 so that the darkening sticks to gaps and corners, though in some cases higher values are better. Honestly it's hard to find a good every-day-use settings for this effect. RenderShadowResolutionScale - 2.000 to 4000. Requirements: RenderDeferred and Shadows must be enabled, also a beefy system is highly recommended. Standard is 1.000. This is the multiplier for the Shadow Resolution, high values will give more detailed shadows, but also cost a lot of frames per second, sacrificing graphics card memory (VRAM) in the process. But it's nice for shooting pretty pictures. Edit: Lowering your RenderFarClip or Draw Distance also helps improving shadow quality as the shadow resolution is 'spread out' over the entire scene, so the smaller the scene (lower draw distance) the less spread out the shadow resolution becomes. See it as upscaling a digital image, the larger you make it, the more blown up the pixels become. RenderShadowBias & RenderShadowBiasError - 0.000 to -0.007. (Depends on scene.) Requirements: RenderDeferred and Shadows must be enabled. Pretty advanced feature but photographers might love this one. Standard values are -0.008 for Bias and -0.007 for BiasError. Normally this Settings makes shadows not render too close to an Object as it can cause some weird shadows on the surface of an Object when this Setting is either not set or set too low. (Or high, as we use negative values here.) One will have to experiment with this Setting to find the right values for what they wish to photograph, but good values will make shadows appear in tiny corners like between the face and hair on an Avatar for example. (Like this.)
  2. Weird, it seems that as soon I disabled the DMZ feature in my modem that Voice started working normally again, this is weird as it pretty much lets a specific IP bypass the Firewall, in other words getting more rights, not less... I'm not considering it to be THE solution yet, will have to try with DMZ on again and see if the issue re-occurs.
  3. I tried this, but nothing happens, it's just not transmitting and no one is hearing me, tried multiple parcels, nothing. I fear it is related to the Region Capabilities issue that I'm having as well...
  4. I've been having troubles with my Voice, it seems to connect as my Voice Dot does appear, but not seeing other people's Voice Dots. And if I try to speak anyway, my Voice indication Dot is not showing it is transmitting. I even went as far as performing a complete clean reinstall of Second Life, removing AppData as well, but it does not seem to matter. Neither can I find any posts that match precisely with the problem I just described here. This is a separate post, but it is uncertain if it's related to the issue described here. Update: Private Calls somehow work. Only looses connection now and then.
  5. Update on the Internet used. (Info on request by a Linden.) ISP: KPN Internet. Modem Brand: Arcadyan Model: VGV7519 Firmware Version: 02.00.124 (Possibly custom firmware by KPN Internet, Netherlands.) Connection is Fibre Optics with 100/100 MBit. Modem Firewall is disabled using Windows Firewall only. Computer is connected through a 1,000 MBit Cat 5e LAN cable. (Twisted, Shielded.) Fibre connection to modem is Cat 6. Last known working setup. ISP: Telfort Internet. Modem Brand: Zyxel Model: P-2602H-D3A ZyNOS Firmware Version: V3.40(AOA.7)b1 | 6/18/2012 DSL Firmware Version: TI AR7 07.03.01.00 Connection is ADSL2+ with 20/1 MBit. Modem Firewall was also disabled using Windows Firewall only. Computer was connected through a 100 MBit Cat 5e LAN cable. (Twisted, Shielded.) Phone line to modem was less than a meter long.
  6. My very hard wares... Intel i5 2500K, 8 GiB RAM, nVidia GTX 580. Connection is Wired for stability's sake, Viewer is the Default one from Second Life's website. I'm pretty sure myself too that this issue is client-side, in case anyone thought so I'm not trying to blame Linden Research for this issue, I was just hoping that they provided some general support for it by now. I'm also getting random disconnects once in a while, I'm pretty sure it's my modem. About the modem, it's a thing that is absolutely dreadful, it's the standard one provided by my ISP. (KPN Internet, if anyone is familiar with Dutch ISP's.) And it has firmware on it developed by them that, well... Basically dumbs the thing down... Removing a lot of the advanced features. (You can't disable the Firewall, for example.) The modem is labeled as an Experia Box v8, but in truth is an Arcadyan. (Haven't found out which type yet.) I'm saving up to replace this pile of rubbish. Update: Well, called with my ISP as was recommended by a friend of mine, and they helped me reroute my computer only around the modem's Firewall, seems that's why it can't be disabled, since it can apparently reroute one specific computer at a time instead of all. It seems to work but during the phonecall Second Life already snapped out of it, so will have to see if the issue stays away. Update 2: ... It's back in it's fullest glory... So either it's my ISP or the modem is still being paranoid... I'm running out of ideas...
  7. Well, still having this issue once in a while, and I just can't solve it by simple things like resetting my cache and resetting my modem, the only thing that can be done is just wait for it to pass. Which some times can take a whole day! Things I read in the meantime is that this issue has been around for a while, and seems to happen client-side. The Modem appears to be the culprit according to some. That's great and all, but no one has come with a way to fix it yet it seems or I have missed it. Also, if this problem is so common, it surprises me Linden Research hasn't looked in to it, I know they're probably busy with developments and running their company, but they always seemed to have been on top of general connectivity issues.
  8. Avatar Center is an attachment point on the Avatar, I'm may be wrong and Avatar Attachment Points are completely different from Bones/Armatures. But anything attached to the Avatar Center does not move with the Avatar's Animation, only with the position of the Avatar. So say the Avatar Center could be used, even if the Avatar lies down, the object connected/attached to the Avatar Center remains where it is.
  9. As the topic title says: Is it possible to use Avatar Center as a bone with Rigged Mesh? I wonder this as it does have some useful applications, like a balloon of which the balloon itself with a cord is rigged to the Avatar Center and the other end of the cord to one of the hands. Completely defeating the need for scripts, particles or flexi prims which rely on sim and client performance.
  10. Okay, here is what happens... I have disconnects sometimes, even though I'm on Fiber Optics, I fear it's the Modem with the custom Firmware my ISP gave me as the disconnects occurred more commonly since I got my new Internet connection, but meanwhile other things are triggered which I doubt are my modem's fault as I heard other Residents experience them too. When a disconnect occurs, like it isn't annoying enough, there is a chance that when I try to relog, the Viewer's loading screen shows 3 attempts for requesting Region Capabilities... Which all seem to fail as huge Can-O-Drama is opened without anyone ever giving permission to as Mesh fails to load, Display Names don't show and also decide to hide Legacy Names, and you can forget about Teleporting as Second Life just logs you the $@#*! out. (Bleeped myself there, don't worry, I'm just frustrated with all this.) I guess I'm supposed to sit it out, but 20 relogs later, without exaggerating, it may or may not finally be fixed... I don't know if Linden Research is aware of this but darn, I can't think of anything more annoying. I'm just trying to be addicted to their 3D world here, but technology just needs to be technology again... Being full of unpleasant surprises that is. I suppose this is server-side as clearing cache and all those standard procedures don't do anything and logging in on your Home location only works if you're not running in to the issue there but in another sim. I write this in hope someone knows more about it and perhaps a way to solve it somehow, but I fear it's either my modem or Linden Labs needs to have another look at the Server Code, anyway, it's annoying, and VERY frustrating...
  11. I am ignoring him, yes, not too worried about his attempts to annoy me because really, if he's like that, what would he be like himself? It's the crashing of sims and launching people that is hard to prevent.
  12. Hi all, yesterday I was with a friend, just chatting. We were in the sim that he owns and manages, and after a while a weird looking person came in, first seeming to chat normally, but once in a while flinging an insult and a judgment to anyone who looked even slightly odd to him. Now my Avatar certainly qualifies so he started picking on me, even launching my Avatar a few times. I complained this to my friend who answered this: "I'm not going to ban him as he already crashes [sim name] daily as they banned him there." This shocked me, so I asked: "Wait, can't they ban him from all parcels?" To which he answered: "Good luck banning 200 alts..." I do not know if this is all true, but this annoying person also has a reputation of being hard to get rid of and loving to crash sims. Because I wish to avoid any trouble to myself and others I'm not going to openly post names here. What I wonder is, how does Linden Labs ban the really persistent? Can they only ban by IP? Or can they even ban based on hardware IDs? It seems this person is impossible to get rid of, to the point that people have given up or wouldn't dare to ban him, this got me pretty concerned.
  13. Updated both my video driver and FRAPS, the driver to 306.23 (nVidia) and FRAPS to 3.5.9. I am still crashing when recording, this is however in a place with plus/minus twenty Avatars, but still, it did not crash a few versions of Second Life earlier, even in crowded places. (Back then I recorded in a place with 40 Avatars!) Not sure if it is useful to start a JIRA about it, since Linden Labs has been working their arse off getting the Viewer not to crash, but still, hoping to solve this somehow.
  14. Hi, tried making some recordings again after a long while, so quite a few versions later, and I almost immediately crash using FRAPS, the log spitting out a Render Pool 15 Error. (Common error lately.) I'm using Second Life 3.3.4 (264214) and FRAPS 3.4.7 (13808). I'm not sure if it'll help any to post the problem here, but it's a real show stopper for me, I love making little machinima's or simple recordings with which I also use a Space Navigator. And neither do I want to go down a notch on the graphics, it should just work. I guess FRAPS pretty much blows up the VRAM if combined with Second Life, as far I gathered Render Pool 15 has something to do with the VRAM, and I have a healthy 1.5 GiB of it. And before I forget, the specifications: CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2500K CPU @ 3.30GHz (3311.17 MHz) Memory: 8160 MB OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 64-bit Service Pack 1 (Build 7601) Graphics Card Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation Graphics Card: GeForce GTX 580/PCIe/SSE2 (MSI GTX 580 Twin Frozr 2 with stock settings.) Windows Graphics Driver Version: 8.17.0013.0124 OpenGL Version: 4.2.0 PS: If anyone says to clear the cache, I'm going to slap them. >_>
  15. Hi, I've been struggling with Mesh hair for my Furry Avatar, and so far luck keeps running out mostly due to the fact that Rigged Mesh models can't be resized or moved. Only changing the Shape seems to allow some resizing though it tends to introduce other problems. For example, changing the Head Size seems a good idea to make Rigged Mesh Hair fit on a Furry head, but it pushes down the neck, so not even an Alpha Layer can solve it. The only solution I can think of is to ask Mesh Hair creators to consider making Mesh Hair for popular Furry Avatars. Like KZK, Aventity, Curious. (And for each species of each brand of course.) This may be asking a lot since there are quite a few species out there, I just do not know any other way really. Not likely that asking Linden Labs for a solution will yield any results. (There are plenty other brilliant ideas on the JIRA, so many of them not even being considered... Like 1-bit Alpha support, better systems for the Shiny Effect, Animated Particles...) So is there anyone who feels up for the challenge? I'm sure it would draw quite an army of happy customers with how big the Furry community has become, unless that's just wishful thinking. :P ~Mina Darsh (minareth.irata)
  16. That won't work sadly, the body you see on the picture is Mesh, not the actual body. Also increasing the head-size introduces another problem, the neck gets pushed down.
  17. Managed to do it, but now I got a large gap where the neck tries to connect with the head... Thing is, I had to move the head up to get the eyes aligned again, but it seems Linden Labs didn't provide an Eye Height Slider at all.Trying to find a nice small scarf or something that goes with the Orange tank I'm wearing.
  18. Bummer, didn't work with the Mesh hair I have, still could try shrinking the head, jaw and eyes a little, but that would take a lot more re-aligning. Still wish someone made Mesh hair for popular Avatar brands and their species. (Curious, Lusk, KZK, etc.)
  19. Oh, that's brilliant actually, think I'll give that a try, luckily already using an Alpha Layer for the head so it'll just be fine tuning, I only hope the sliders of my shape will go far enough for it to work. Thanks!
  20. Hi, there is plenty of Mesh hair out there these days, but none that fit on Furry heads, and if there is, they do not fit on all kind of Furry Avatar heads. (I know that Blue Galaxy has Furry Mesh hair, but it is too.... Simple looking.) So I wish to find out what it'll approximetaly cost to have a custom Mesh hair model made that fits my Avatar. Details include that it must have modify and copy rights, but no transfer if that means cutting down the pricetag. Also preferrably an Alpha-less design so that it works well with Projectors. (Second Life seems to have a bug where Alpha Textures still catch light from a Projector even if an Object is blocking the light when Shadows are enabled.) This hair model may be re-used for sales, again if that means cutting down the pricetag for the creation of it. Could anyone let me know how much, in real life money, this'll cost?
  21. Well, as the title says/asks: The Avatar Picker: Can I add my own Avatars? The Avatar Picker is nice for new people maybe, but is utterly wasted if it has no editing possiblities. And I myself love the idea of just changing Avatars with one/two clicks and images showing what you are going to change to, instead of diving in your Inventory. I tried everything, even dove into the installation folder but can't find anything and I do have a complete Avatar in a folder in Outfits, so if it is supposed to auto-detect, it's not working. Anyone know if this menu can be edited in any way? Can you add your own Avatars?
  22. As far I've seen it cannot be done anymore, and I'm talking about true fullscreen. I guess it gave problems somewhere, at least I know it did when switching to fullscreen while in-world. I would love it though if Linden Labs restored the feature.
  23. Small correction, Ceera, there is no purchaseable Felis, it has always been a freebie. And only comes as a complete Avatar. Which does make me wonder though, are we realling speaking of the Felis Cat Avatar or might there be a mix up with the Moufette?
  24. I absolutely loved what Ceka wrote! There are quite a few people who are busty for fun, but also some like me who are full-time busty. (In my case I just find it really interesting how people respond to my pressence, especially when they do it in character and double especially if they are not flirting yet curious.) Anyway, I too think it's not mainly the weirdness but also the complex tools. The tools are mind blowing at first, in a bad way, it took me months to figure out how to link prims. (I mostly tried instead of ask for help back then.) I also noticed that when new people come in, they seem to expect assignments/missions/quests like most games do and are disappointed when they do not find any. The newby sims are dull, and right next door may be a funny 'lolwut?' moment going on but they are in the wrong sim already giving up. What I mean is is that I think that the wild variety of sims also may be an issue, and it's hard to point new people into the right direction.
  25. Hello FallenBunny, the Felis Avatar comes with a shape that is specifically adjusted for the head. (The head, eyes and ears have different attachment points.) If I remember correctly, there should be a note included which tells which head settings should get what values to make the head look right should you want to use your own shape. Custom skins tend to not have the same quality as the default one. (i.e. The nose may not look as seamless as with the default texture.) And err, could you perhaps post an image of the teeth issue if not too much trouble? I do not understand what you mean.
