  1. Is it possible to get a simple understandable explanation of the 3 values in the upload window which make the PE count. I know it depends on many many parameters. But there should be a rule of thumb for these 3 values. e.g. more tri's is higher download, custom made physics shape (boxes) is lower physic, large object is higher server, custom or generated LOD's, etc etc. All the info is now spreaded out in the forum in technical words, formula's, and more complicated words, not to mention the definitions changed a lot. Sort of explanation for dummie's please. In 1 place accesible for everyone (sticky post?)

    Happy

I am so happy mesh is on maingrid now ! Beta is such a lonely place :matte-motes-big-grin:
  3. Isn't it so that all these small pieces go earlier to next LOD level then a whole structure would do when zooming out?

  5. If I doubt a question and answer yes it might be a lucky guess. Would be good if the no's are explained too. And if explained I am able to give a more accurate answer.
  6. No way ever that I will make such an absurd high poly attachment. And I am sure none of you overhere would do it either. It is useless. But who else knows that since there is no limit defined. After all we have 200 prim shoes, necklaces, hair etc etc in world now, simply because it is possible.
  7. I made a model with 7680 tri's in high lod and size of 0.069x0.069x0.240. I made the lower lod's too, 1920, 208, 8 tri's Model is 2 PE. I copied it 255 times and linked it. PE is 129 prims. So I have a linked set now with 1.966.080 tri's. Can be attached without problem. Would it be wise to attach such high poly models? I fear SL will freeze. We all know the laggie jewelry stuff, but this is even worse compared to sculpties (approx 512.000 tri's).
  8. And what about internet speed. Doesn't that have a huge impact on what we are able to see and stream. I can have the best graphic card but al the data have to reach my PC too. Overhere with 1mb internet, things aren't that fast. And 1 mb is no exception in the rural areas of this western country. And yes all those fantastic PC games with super realistic graphics. Don't they put some gig's first on your hard drive?
  9. The calculation takes about 10 seconds overhere. Have to calculate again for every change I make. Maybe I get reduction in upload cost then :matte-motes-angry: This is with a slow internet connection of 1 mega.
  10. Yes Object names. Maybe that purple one changes colour when you become a Linden :matte-motes-shocked:
  11. After reading all the words I decided to build the sink myself. To see what happens. I have same results. I modelled it with hard and soft edges: that gave 10 prims (without script) And the model with only soft edges: 7 prims (without script) I did not care about UV mapping for this test. (I also found a bug: texture faces switching when changing LOD) So for primcount the sculptie wins but in my opinion mesh has far more options in texturing and building accurate models. If that is a plus in a prim based economy ? Sculpties might get a PE value to in future, HELP !! I rezzed my testmodels next to Vivienne's models in sandbox 29.
  12. When I import a Maya scene with all surfaces named properly. SL names every prim "Object" only the rootprim has the name (seems randomly) of a maya surface. My Maya scene has several groups wherein are several surfaces. No surfaces are named the same. I use maya 2011 fbx dae export. Any ideas, tricks, tips, suggestions to have my prims the same name as the surfaces in maya. Thanks
  13. Test , test. Not reporting, I find same issues as others in this forum (or jira) and I use bugspray !
  14. Show us what you made please, we are curiuos :smileysurprised:
  15. Will there be a public sandbox when mesh goes beta on the main grid?
  16. And I thought I pushed all the buttons last 3 years :-) Seems te be an endless supply of possibilties in maya. Thanks for the tip !
  17. guY Ralior wrote: If LOD groups are created within Maya and you set the LOD switching to wear you want it What do you mean by this? Is this a maya tool or export function? Thanks
  18. What does this mean: xxxxMesh failed to upload: MAV_BLOCK_MISSING NewAgentInventory_InvalidAsset
  19. New ART for SL !! Foget about mesh, do this :-)
  20. I am loosing it too: High lod 1770 tri's, Medium lod 830 tri's, Low lod 516 tri's, Lowest lod 228 tri's, Physics 12 tri's (cube) Rezzed at 0.25x0.25x0,25m Costs 4 prims of my land. Object can be made with 2 sculpties and looks better (about 4000 tri's) Or maybe I take 3 sculpties, I still win 1 prim. But what happens now, I tortured myself to make this object out of 1 sculptie in the past. And I managed and it sells great -ONLY 1 PRIM- OMG look at this :-) *** If my mesh would have same tri's and prim numbers as my sculptie I could make this object completely perfect. And as a plus way better texturing abbilities. It would help SL better if we get rewarded for using mesh.
  21. I also found a workaround. Would been easier if LL just allows us to make 1mm objects. Thanks for replies and feed-back. BTW: I never had a mesh of 1 prim. streaming cost seams to be 2 at all times. Even if the primcount is 0.1. We might need more land for mesh :-).
  22. Great string, looks good. Yes and of course this is possible with mesh. Suppose I just want 1 pearl and create a little ornament with that or a piercing. Not every creator will be able to make mesh and will rely on building parts. Nano mesh is really needed, and will finally give possibility to make good looking content below 1cm.
  23. Well Nyx I think your question could better be asked to the jewelry makers in SL. Sure I can make small mesh details on a larger object, I simply combine all to 1 mesh. But what if I want that detail as a seperate prim. Many people use very small (smaller then 1cm) parts for accesoires, buttons, chains, etc etc. Smaller then 1cm might also be handy for thin rails, ropes or other stuff which is straight in 2 axes. * Btw the standard prim is not the smallest you can work with. Nano sculpties go way smaller. And we don't want sculpties where mesh could give better performance, do we?
  24. Did they drop the possibilty to make nano mesh? A mesh smaller then 0.01x0.01x0.01 is now scaled to this once imported. I also noticed dimensions are now surface dimensions instead of bounding box. ** Do I really have to wait till mesh is released? Will everything be final then? It is very frustrating to model without knowing if and how it will end up in SL.
