  1. From my experience this is the slowest part. America goes to work, Australia just gone to bed. United Kingdom few ours until end of work. Europe coming home from work and doing whatever Europeans do when they get home from work. Middle East are well not logging into Second Life that's for sure. Asia are just being Awesome like they always are.
  2. The started at 6am =P Most people come online in the late afternoon & evening after they come back from there normal 9 to 5 jobs. Peek hours are 5 - 10pm SLT.
  3. Shoes tend to come with Alpha Mask you put on your feet which remove your feet (well turn them invisible) so you can wear shoes and your feet don't stick out the side. When you looked at the guys feet they may have been mesh because the Firestorm viewer you are using is a pre-mesh version "Firestorm 2.5.2.16922 (Preview 2, Non Mesh)" http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/doku.php?id=downloads I know you said it's not mesh but this is just an option for you seeing other people's shoes funny they appear like they are wearing weird prims that are textured weird. It could also be that other people have different LOD (Level of Detail) I'm guessing that you are doing the best for your fps so you have your graphics on low? if you do by default your LOD is set to 1.1 so sculpted shoes that aren't near you will not render fully there for from further away will look weird, try zooming into them. And your friends see the shoes fine because they have a higher LOD setting so they render correctly from further distances. To increase your LOD click CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+S type in 'RenderVolumeLODFactor' and increase it to 2 or 4 see if this is any better.
  4. [updated 6:00am PDT, 30 April 2012] We will be beginning our core network maintenance shortly. Please save all builds and refrain from rezzing no copy objects or making inworld L$ transactions. Some residents may experience delays logging inworld. Keep trying! ! Also this explains why half the textures are froze mid load.. looks like a cache clear once it's complete lol
  5. I've noticed then when scowering the JIRA that Mac users have Second Life issues, my friend went to an iMac 27in something or other but Second Life wasn't as good as her old computer which was custom built for high end games so returned it and got another computer again. Funny thing is when coding Apple iPhone Apps, and Android apps you'd think that different OS's different companies different languages but I was surprised when I found out how similar it all is, so whether it's the viewer's coding or not seems it wouldn't be unless .exe applications and .dmg applications are coded different I don't know I hate big applications lol. Maybe it is something to do with the Apple Mac OS and their relation with the Graphics card. I do know when Apple create new iPhones they keep the software and hardware staff in the dark about each others work until they complete it and bring the finished parts together. Crazy method for sure but the products sure are pretty and awesome. Anyway Apple are very good at building products to use right out the box. So bam you can go. But when they do have to bring in Third Parties this case it's AMD they do end up running into problems. I also have an AMD Video card but I've built my computer because I hate out the box stuff and the limitations drives me crazy lol. I think if apple are able to make the awesome A5 chips in the iPhone and iPad they should be able to create and use their own graphics software and processors. I believe nVidia is the graphics card you want for gaming so Apple should make models with nVidia inside, as they are simply the best but pricey. AMD do an amazing job for the price they put out though but it is more or less about matching up software, and hardware to work side by side it's tricky and if Apple keep the hardware dept and software dept away from eachother then it will be even more so. I think it could be what you said the OpenGL with the OS, as that's what springs up in the JIRA but again not a Mac just giving my findings on the subject!
  6. Scan your real Identification method Drivers License passport whatever and attach it to them, send a couple and if you can attach the ID you used to verify. Also mention that at the time you WERE 18+ just couldn't get your age verification method to work at the time due to confusion with the not being American and not fully understanding the method at the time. Plead that you were at the age above at the time make sure the the ID has your Date of Birth and Address with it so they can in fact see you are NOT American and were at the time of account creation or at least the age verification you were infact above the age of 18. Linden Labs is a rented office with around 300 employees. Not a huge global corperation with bases world-wide so they can at least give you the benefit of the doubt. You can trust them with you credentials, I've had to email copies of my I.D Birth Certificate & Photo I.D to grant me access on Teen Grid when I created my account but that's long gone now and I'm 18 now and they know this for SURE. If all doesn't go as well, phone up the billing line and explain your situation. They are quite helpful, can cost a bit phoning international but worth-it. Best of Luck to you!
  7. Do you use Wired or Wireless Internet Connection? You may want to run a speedtest (speedtest.net) and make sure your connection is strong enough to hold on to the simulator. It might be a problem with your ISP double check with them they will tell you how to tracert to the second life servers and find out if there is a server on the way experiencing issues with the established connection. Other things you can try is logging into a different region go in to Preferences and make sure you have it enabled to let you log into other regions then a new box will appear next to Login click the drop down and click <Type Region Name> and type in Pooley then try and log in. Also try and use a texted based viewer see if they hold out as they are mainly there to connect you to the inventory, group, friends, finance side of Second Life without the huge bandwidth munching simulator. If you are able to log in for a few Seconds change your group tag quickly log out then log back in. This is all I can offer for now I'm afraid but best of luck to you and hope it get's sorted!
  8. The reason your computer specifications are asked for is recent events and upgrades with servers can cause distress on certain models of graphics cards or processors. For example an update a couple of years ago caused shadows to not render on Macs. It's the basic people ask for as we can get an idea of what environment you are working with. Your system can run other programs clearly but Second Life isn't a simple program as normal programs have all files hosted on your computer, Second Life has a viewer which is hosted on your computer but the virtual simulation isn't, it's all online streamed to you via the viewer, you have cache files but they are just for faster loading they aren't the actual data needed to load the world around you. Now from personal experience I've had issues like this before best thing to do is double check your connection, go on speedtest.net and see how fast your connection is. Do you have a wired connection if so then this shouldn't be an issue if it's WiFi sometime there are other programs on your computer using the bandwidth limited to a wireless connection. Shut down any Instant Messagers, Email Programs, VoIP Services (Skype) or an Peer 2 Peer software like uTorrent. You may have your bandwidth set to high in your prefrences restore the settings to default. It sounds like a connection between you and the simulator is established but when it trys to load everything to you it cannot hold the connection. Best of Luck to You.
  9. This may not be the greatest answer but it's something to try until another Mac user see's this post: Anyway some versions of the Mac OS react differently to different versions of viewers this is something I picked up when rummaging through the JIRA. Having the latest viewer does mean latest features but can include new bugs. Something to try for now would be downloading an older version of the Second Life Viewer, or a Third Party Viewer. The latest viewer is: Second Life 3.3.1.254525 You could instead try the Second Life Beta Viewer which is obviously the next version up with this bug hopefully repaired: Second Life 3.3.1.254008 (not sure why this version has a lower number this maybe still the beta for the recent viewer) http://download.cloud.secondlife.com/beta-releases/Viewer-3/SecondLife_3_3_1_254008_BETAVIEWER.dmg If that doesn't work then this is the Second Life Project Viewer which is bug fixes and releases due to go on the next beta release. Second Life 3.3.3.254948 http://automated-builds-secondlife-com.s3.amazonaws.com/hg/repo/integration_viewer-development/arch/Darwin/quicklink.html Finally you can try a Third Party Viewer: https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Third_Party_Viewer_Directory They are more or less the same as the current Second Life Viewer but have more features and a dedicated support from their own developers. So give them a shot and best of luck !
  10. Following from Valerie and Monti: Is the land you paid for paid for by purchasing a parcel using the "Buy Land" option, or are you paying someone via a Rent Box, a prim which displays weeks left of rent etc.? If it is the Rent Box option as Monti said you may need to wear a group tag, some rent boxes invite you to a group once you have paid the boxes, if not I'd look at the covenant for who to contact in regards to getting an invite to the group who owns the land. If you are just paying the rent box then your land is group owned still you'll just be invited to the group so you can control and build up on the parcel (plot of land). If you used the Buy Land option then I would contact the person who sold you the land. Next time when buying land make sure the seller is next to you in-world incase a purchase does go wrong. Best of Luck to you.
  11. veragr wrote: I believe that creating mesh must be not so difficult as it seems because there are a lot of people there in SL that create mesh clothing...also I am an easy learner so it will not take me much time. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt but woah lol it is hard to grasp but once you do get's easier. I tried on blender.. gave up... tried again on blender gave up.. tried on auto desk.. gave up tried again gave up but then I really knuckled down and got a big bunch of links open and my own notepad and pen out taking notes and step by step stuff and it is getting easier. Most tutorials are in Blender and there are many different versions of blender with different tutorials on different versions so it's difficult to keep up and translate. I recommend using autodesk maya or studio max for creating the mesh, then if you want to rig to your avatar for clothing then take it over to blender to do that as you can rig it quite easily in there when you get the right files. Best of Luck to you!
  12. You have the computer so your experience will be a best report. Checking the JIRA there isn't many reports of 10.7 being an issue other users are using it well. Try an alternative viewer perhaps an older version or a Third Party Viewer. https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Third_Party_Viewer_Directory
  13. does secondlife.com still load up? I had a problem where secondlife.com wouldn't load unless I was using a VPN.. but community.secondlife.com was fine which was annoying if it doesn't then try this hit WinKey+R - Type CMD click OKAY. Type in without quotations "tracert www.secondlife.com" Then it will connect to www.secondlife.com and display all the servers it has to go through to reach the Linden Lab (Second Life) servers. If it goes through and says Trace Complete with "216.82.2.17" as the last line then you can connect to the servers and it's something else... if not then wherever it stopped is a down server. When I phoned up Virgin Media (My ISP) about this they told me to do this I read out the line it stopped at and they told me it was one of their servers and so I had to connect through their proxy until it was back up which only took a few days. - If this is the issue then phone up your ISP. The solution above seems like what is most likely your issue, everything below this is just general troubleshooting connectivity. If you can Trace all the way then the basics can be this... - Check your Firewall and Internet Security a recent update might have blocked Second Life... http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Engli… - Log into your router and check to see if any ports are being blocked. - Check your account isn't banned Linden Labs will email you if it is... but you can also log into Secondlife.com click Account > Account Summery. should say under "Your Current Status:" whether you are active or not if you are active then woo no worries... - Try and log into a different region... Choose Me > Preferences. Click the General tab. Under Start location, choose Show on login. Click OK. Reload Second Life and type in a region just type 'Pooley' there. Then hit log in. - Try Using a VPN download HotSpot Sheild and run it, then log in and if it loads through then it is a problem with your ISP and you will need to phone them up.
  14. This is Oxbridge university it holds lecture styles classes covering different aspects of building, photography textures etc. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife//130/149/27 College of Scripting, this is fantastic place to learn aboout Scripting you follow arrows on the floor and you walk around the many levels and it shows you how to script you can become a moderate scripter if you take notes and practice through this. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife//46/243/85 These are a couple you can also search Builders Brewery functions the same as Oxbridge University but has more intereactivy with students for example competitions etc. Best of Luck
  15. Exactly what Kenbro Utu has said. Cashing out Lindens is rewarding I think lol and quite easy to be fair. Head to www.secondlife.com and log in, in the "Linden Exchange" panel click 'Manage' Then "Sell L$" On this page type in the amount of L$ you wish to sell under "Quantity of L$" then once you do that click "Sell" You will have to enter your details to verify the transaction. Now all this does is put USD in your Second Life account which are unusable in-world but can be used to pay for land and marketplace items I believe. Once you have the USD click 'Manage' at the left again then hit 'Process Credit' This page is where you get your USD to your PayPal. Below will be a list of options on methods if you have PayPal it'll be there in a green bold underlined font saying 'PayPal' click that link and on the next page type in the amount of USD you wish to transfer from your Second Life account to PayPal it will mention that it taks off $1 for doing this. Then hit Process and within 5 working days your PayPal will be credited
  16. I'm surprise, I get told and WARNED yeah, capital WARNED lol, that residing rigged mesh clothing in world is a big no no?
  17. Dumb Reply: Make sure you're parcel&region is voice enabled, disable the option there, then renable see if it helps. Better Reply: There is a Linden Lab SIM to go to which when you talk on the mic it bounces back and you hear your voice as other residents would and no one else can hear you so you can make silly noise.. I do anyway <_< http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Voice%20Echo%20Canyon/128/128/20 Assuming you're on Firestorm or Equ. Next option would be Preferences > Sound & Media > Voice Settings > Audio Device Settings In the drop down make sure your microphone is visible and enabled and instead of "Default Device" actually selected the Microphone from the list, click Apply and relog (isn't neccessary but why not) Final solution check to make sure your drivers are up to date. It's easy to do Right Click Volume in Status Tray > Recording Devices > Right Click the Microphone (If it works on skype it should be enabled by default) > Properties > Controller Information: Properties > Driver Tab > Update. See if that works, if there isn't an update click Disable then Click Enable again. and click Apply and try the steps in Second Life again.
  18. The station I listen to is called ANYWHORADIO it plays HD music most is modern but all remixed and commerical free. http://sc7.mystreamserver.com:8104
  19. Following from what hibit said: Creating smooth life like animations is more to do with the time and effort put into your animations. Most programs come with a model and a time line with keyframes where you can select a point create a mark, change the pose select another pose create a mark change the pose and your avatar will smootly change to the pose when playing the animation. Again to create a smooth life like animation you will find you need to create a very long timeline as it counts in fps most are like 30fps some will go up to 60fps depends on software and you will need to spend a lot of time going slowly up the time line creating key points poses and moving each limb to create that life like effect. Use the link hibit gave to get more detail, I personally use QAvimator but I don't use it for animations like walking, dancing etc. it's more for static part control animations. For example when holding a glass you create an animation just using the right arm that sort of thing. Good Luck Anyway
  20. That sounds awesome ! Quick run down of the different approaches: Mesh: It's new exciting and allows for creater creation freedom as well as detail when using programs like Blender or Autodesk. If you know how to make objects in mesh using 3D modelling tools then that's obviously a plus, sadly mesh is still a bit limiting. First limit being not everyone has converted to mesh yet. I'd imagine most have but there maybe the odd 7 year old resident still refusing because he don't like change. Also when sticking scripts in mesh objects it can become quite effective on the land impact. Oh yeah with mesh it doesn't have the normal prim count, instead it goes by "land impact" and the price for upload can vary on size amount of vertices the LOD set for different zoom states. So mesh although more freedom and detail requires more knowledge, time and precision to make a detailed object with little land impact, but as you are attatched to an avatar shouldn't worry but I believe the limit or suggested limit for what to attach in mesh is 6k land impact. I think. Sculpt: These are becoming quite outdated and you can't control the LOD so if your running to someone with a sword from their view it will appear a weird triangle until you get closer to them. Sculpts are like the cousin to mesh, built the same way just imported different and less freedom when it comes to detail. Prim: Still the funnest and easiest way to build... just detail can take up prims! I think it really depends on your sword.. If building a fancy duel blade kind of thing I'd recommend mesh. If building a single blade straight up sword then prim will be good enough for the blade but perhaps sculpt or mesh for the sheath and the handle. I reccommend you look at the mesh wiki page for more insight to it. I love building objects in mesh you can even use google Sketchup 8 as a means of building easy simple objects. But complex moulding and sculpting will require better more advanced software. Anyway best of luck!
  21. Thanks! That worked amazingly! Apart from 1 small detail. My issue now is how do I make it so the mesh object is now 1 whole object as when I heat it to the skeleton and then play round with the pose the shirt moves but the center splits open back and front and isn't joined?
  22. Hey, This weird thing is happening to my cage when I use the mirror modify in Blender 2.59. When I use the modifer and select the vertices I want and move them it mirrors the other side like it should but creates it as a new bunch of vertices? And then once I click "Apply" it basically locks it all in and I'm stuck with 4 arms? Any Ideas? much appriciated :)
  23. I've had a couple of new products which are good and I like but a customer will rate it 1 star due to it being undelivered or delivered slowly? I understand people have delievery problems on th marketplace but there are reseources for peopel to go to which normal says "items normally are delivered within 8hrs, otherwise you will be refunded in 24hrs." Why do users not read up on why it's delivered and because they have the problems they give the product a 1 star review? That a kick in the shin for merchants no doubt as we have to put up with seeing a 1 start review tarnish the possibilty of a full 5 just because they have problems with the marketplace. Anyway main focus of this post was more of a question to customers why do you do this to us merchants, instead of contacting us inworld because we don't get told of a review but a message in world or on profile walls we get? And Merchants how do you handle this situation does this bother you as much as it does me? And Linden Labs is it possible to put a little text above the reviews saying "Do not leave complaints about undelievered or Not recieved items as this isn't the merchants fault and stop acting like it's ebay!"
