  1. Any tips for weighting a skirt in Maya?  I can't seem to get away from that split that happens when walking, no matter how I paint the weights.  I'm wondering if there is no getting around it other than designing your skirt to stand farther away from the body.  Any feedback would be appreciated.

  2. I've actually added some images in the hopes of clarifying the issue.maya model.jpg

    simple garment rigged in maya

    rezzed inworld

worn (note how the top is distored)

worn with upper body alpha (note the distortion and 'buckling')

I've tried numerous models and get the same result.  Admittedly I am new to weight painting so maybe it is my inexperience.  However the fact that the exact same thing happens regardless of the model or how I paint the weights leads me to believe it is another issue.  Again, I really appreciate any suggestions :)

  3. Thank you for this skeleton!  It does seem to help position the mesh better but I am still having fitting issues.  I am using the 'Standard Sizing' XXS avatar to fit in Zbrush and checking it in Maya before rigging.  When I bring the garment in to SL the bottom seems fine but the top doesn't seem to fit the way it does outside of SL. The sides are pushed in and the mesh buckles in places.  I can't seem to figure out the issue.  If anyone had any suggestions I would really appreciate them.

  4. I'm having issues with the rigged mesh garments I  am bringing inworld.  I am rigging them in maya and the lower half of the garment seems fine but the upper hald seems 'pulled in' from armpit to armpit.  I thought this was a weighting issue and painted out the weight influence for the chest but it doesn't seem to be affecting it.  When the object is rezzed on the ground it looks perfect.  Any suggestions anyone might have as to why this is happening would be very much appreciated. Thank you :)

  5. The UVs seem to be fine.  I've done the UV check and see no problem areas so I'm a little stumped. I've also tried the process with different models in case the issue is specific to one item.  It still seems to texture strangely.  I'll go through my steps again.  If you've not have any problems then it must be something I'm doing incorrectly. Thanks for taking the time to respond :)

  6. I'm curious to know your best practices for texturing a 3D mesh model.  Is anyone using a program that allows you to apply texture, shading, wrinkles, etc., directly on the model or do you flatten it and do it in PS?  Thanks in advance for any feedback :)
