  1. Visit popular stores and look for Midnight Mania boards. Also, many popular stores have group gifts, so you can join and get those. Mind you, some make their groups cost to join so they don't get random people joining, grabbing the gift, then leaving the group. And some stores have you join their group before you can hit the Midnight Mania boards, anyway.
  2. With all the talk now about "frankenbarbies" and how nice it would be for people to have "realistic heights," I still don't think there's anything wrong with being unrealistically tall in SL as opposed to RL. It's a fantasy world. I also don't think there's anything wrong with having a short avi, or trying to replicate your RL self. I'll admit to being a "frankenbarbie" myself, but I quite like my avi and haven't been able to replicate her proportions in a shorter form to my satisfaction. Not to mention when I've tried, my favorite clothing items have been so long I could see maybe half; the rest went through the floor. To the OP: If you like having a short avi, I'd go with what others have said: Act like an adult, talk like an adult, dress like an adult, and put in your profile on the main page, not just the first life page, that you are an adult. I wonder if there's a group you could join with a tag something like "NOT a child! Just short!" or something similar. Perhaps you could create one. Or a titler, though some find those annoying. You really shouldn't have to jump through hoops just to be allowed into adult places with a short avi, but from the owner's side, they really don't want to lose all the time and money they've invested in their place because some idiot reports them for allowing child avis. SL is heavily skewed towards tall avis; and beyond that, I don't think it's possible to get too much below 5'1" in SL in the first place. I created a "realistic" shape the other day, and by the time I got her down to 5'7" I was at around 20 on the height slider. Food for thought, anyways. End ramble.
  3. Nails. Not always the same set, admittedly, or the same color, but I always have prim nails on anymore. (I will, very occasionally, dispense with them in an extremely high-lag, high-traffic area.) I just don't like the ones on my skin; they look a little jagged and uneven and kind of ugly; the only part of my skin I really don't like, but easy to cover with lovely nails.
  4. Rebake (if you haven't already) and have you tried replacing the whole outfit? Create a new outfit, including skin, shape, hair, and all new clothing including different undies. Right click and replace. If you've already tried these, then I have no idea, but those are my two thoughts! Good luck!
  5. I'm not a creator, at all, rarely do much modding, but I've discovered a need to find a texture that matches my current skin, particularly the color over the stomach, to apply to some sculpties. I understand that this can be done using tools like photoshop, etc., but I don't have any of these programs on my computer. Is there still a way for me to do it? Or do I have to find someone and pay them to help me? Thanks!
  6. Bra - not always. Depends. I don't really like the look of being able to see a bra under clothes that aren't designed for that sort of thing, so with a lot of my summer dresses/tops, no. The straps are much too obvious. With things that provide more coverage, like winter tops, etc., or if I'm wearing a jacket, yes. Panties - most of the time, yes. Then again, I mostly wear underwear because I found a lingerie store I like and want to be able to wear what they sell, so...
  7. I find a lot of what I wear here on the forums, in vanity threads or in questions that other people ask - "What's a good place to find shoes?" "Where is this from?" etc. Otherwise, I do a lot of searching on the marketplace if I need a general item, like a pair of sandals or an evening gown. I look a lot at the featured section in the marketplace, too. If I find a creator I like, I'll go to their inworld store and look around there.
  8. I've found some of my favorite stores perusing vanity threads here in the forums. Others I've found by spotting someone inworld wearing something I liked, and asking. The marketplace "featured" section can be a good resource, too, although as with anything, it can be hit and miss. If you want stuff for men, you can just go to "apparel," then "mens" and look through the featured stuff that pops up. Again, though, some of what's featured isn't nearly as good as it seems. Men's options are much more limited than those for women, too. Good luck!
  9. It depends. I like to see men in clothing items of good quality, which seems rare in the places I like to go. The bare chest look is overdone, as many others have said. It seems like I rarely see a man with a shirt on in SL! A freebie tuxedo also only goes so far with me. I like to see a guy who changes clothes at least occasionally, and who seems to have put some time into his selections rather than choosing the first freebie outfit he came across. Nothing against freebies, but as with anything else, some are better than others. Seeing the same freebie tux or pair of jeans on every guy in SL gets old. I can dress conservatively, or in revealing outfits, depending on my mood and where I intend to go. I like when guys can do the same, but no, guys in short shorts with their butts hanging out are not attractive to me. Conservative can be sexy
  10. I tried changing my draw distance. Good suggestion, thanks! Didn't work, unfortunately. Where is "Limit my Selection Distance?" Removing and reattaching resets the position. I used to be able to change the axes manually, but it reset every time I took it off. For some reason I can't reset the axes right now. Maybe I'll reload Phoenix and try that, or give the SL V2 a try.
  11. Thanks I tried this, and it still isn't working, but I appreciate the help!
  12. Thank you for the response! I tried this, but I still can't zoom out when editing HUD's. I can zoom out fine when editing prims and such, it's just when trying to do HUD's. I.e., I hit "edit" on the HUD in my inventory, scroll out using the mouse wheel, and it zooms out a small bit - I can see the white outline, and maybe a centimeter or so of space on each side, but I used to be able to zoom out MUCH more to edit my HUD's. I clicked another HUD and couldn't zoom out any further; when I click any other prim on the screen that isn't an HUD, I can zoom out the regular screen, but not to edit/see off-screen HUD's.
  13. For some reason, when I attempt to zoom out in edit mode in order to see my HUD, which has attached off-screen, I can't zoom out more than just a tiny bit. I used to be able to zoom out quite a bit more, and I'm not sure what I did that changed this. I can zoom in and out fine on the normal screen, it's just when editing HUD's that I have this problem. It wouldn't matter, except that this particular HUD can only be attached to center 2 or it unattaches itself, and I can't seem to edit the axes to move it where it needs to be. Help? How can I fix it so I can zoom out further? I use Firestorm, but this has happened on every viewer I have used.
  14. Stupid question(s): is this automatic, and does it rate all users including those who use Phoenix? I ask because I've heard that V2 profiles are web-based (I don't use V2) and I've never had a web-based profile. So does it work for non-web-based profiles, i.e. Phoenix and any others that use regular profiles? /me is clueless...
  15. I respectfully disagree. I like to see reviews on a product, even if they're bad. Too many store owners would just delete all negative reviews if they could, and keep only positive, which gives a skewed view of how good or bad the product actually is. I think merchants should just take the time to respond to reviews, especially negative ones.
  16. My concern with banning, as a customer, would be the fear that store owners would start banning ANYONE with complaints or who left bad reviews. I should have the right to comment however I choose; if I don't like the product, I can leave a bad review, and the store owner shouldn't be able to ban me because I did so. (I do realize that the majority of store owners wouldn't do this, but some would, and that's not fair to the honestly disgruntled consumer.) I think it's important for store owners to remember that they can comment back to a review - a polite comment offering assistance for a disliked or malfunctioning product, for example, encourages me to buy the product despite the bad review because I know the merchant will work with me. A negative, snippy comment by the store owner, on the other hand, makes me not want to buy the product because I see that I can't expect any help.
  17. This is really good! I hardly ever get mine this close, but they're close enough that I don't care.
  18. Prims colors ALWAYS change in different lighting. I usually find a color that matches my skin on my screen, with my settings, and just leave it at that. I've seen plenty of people whose prim feet (or other body parts) don't match their skin at all on my screen, but I'm sure it looks fabulous on theirs. Baby Monkey (shoe store) has a guide of where to look, using "show color under cursor," to find your best skin match for feet. They also have a guide of values for popular skins. (I know N-core does this as well, when you buy a pair of their shoes, as I have their bare feet and love them! Got an almost-perfect match using their guide, since my skin is a popular one.) Using the Baby Monkey guide of where to look, I've gotten some very good skin matches for most of my shoes, as well.
  19. If you look closely, this actually isn't even a dress; it's a bodysuit-type deal with a fairly low crotch and flaired legs. But it's lovely (as a dress; I don't care for bodysuit type deals), so I hope you have luck finding something like it in SL!
  20. All you can do is create a ticket for support. The Lindens don't read the forums, so they won't read your post. If you create a ticket, they'll see it and maybe at least tell you why they banned you.
  21. I got a couple cute ones from DeLa (plus some coordinating cardigans...), a couple from salt. (a little fancier, in my opinion, but very flowy and pretty), but my by far favorite shop at the moment is Zaara. Leezu also has a couple cute dresses. I have tons, but can't think of all the shops right now...I'd definitely give Zaara a go, though. Might not be your style, but it's definitely worth a look.
  22. I typed in a search for "business" in the marketplace, and there are some, but you have to wade through "sexy" and "sexy business" to find them. You're very right, most women's suits seem to be sexy as opposed to something a normal woman would actually wear to the office... Keep in mind, though, that a low-cut blouse can be made less sexy by adding a cute cami/tanktop underneath. Skirts I bet you'll have a hard time with, and may have to try slacks instead; most were either super short with a little prim piece in front, or system (from my quick perusal, anyways). Good luck! It doesn't seem that many people design for the "serious," non-sexy businesswoman on SL. Maybe because it's a virtual world and what you wear doesn't (theoretically) matter quite as much as it does in RL? Just a thought. It may matter more to you than to the people you're doing business with, but you should still be able to find something that you feel comfortable in, and it stinks that you can't. This one: https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/sf-design-performance-suit-charcoal-ladies/84490 looks really cute, and comes with a pants option so you wouldn't have to wear the skirt (which looks like a system skirt). The downside is it isn't show on an actual avatar, but it's feminine without being overtly sexy. The same store seems to have a few other women's business pieces/outfits.
  23. Be very careful here. As far as I am aware, sharing IM's is against TOS; enabling it by providing such an object may be as well. If you told them about it, they CAN probably use it against you, and the Lindens MAY choose to take action on account of TOS violation. I doubt they're big on chat spy stuff... Other than that, it's just griefing. It's likely that nothing will come of it anyway, so mute and move on, as others have said. Just my opinion; could be wrong...
  24. The highest prim items you're likely to encounter are hair and jewelry. A good, long hair can run in excess of 200 prims all by itself. I would suggest that if you find a high-prim item you like, such as a hair, you compensate by having the rest of your outfit low-prim. A good way to get around high-prim long hair is updo's and ponytails, etc. to give the illusion of long hair. I have some (gorgeous) pieces of jewelry that run in excess of 500 prims. That's huge, so when you go into populated places you won't want to wear a lot of jewelry unless it doesn't have many prims. A lot of places put resize scripts in their clothes/shoes/jewelry. Those pieces are often no-modify, but let you resize by clicking on the object. They often have the ability to then delete the script; in the same menu as the resize is an option labeled "delete." DON'T delete any scripts unless you can copy the item, because if you change shape later or it turns out the size you set it to was wrong and you've deleted the scripts, you'll have to buy a whole new item unless you copied before deleting. I wouldn't worry too much about the prim counts of individual items when shopping. If you buy an item with a really huge prim count, try to wear it only in low-populated areas, but otherwise, I'd sort by relevance or price before I sorted by prim count. Many quality creators try to limit their prims and scripts, but again, I wouldn't worry excessively. Flexi is still prim; the difference is often in flexi versus sculpti. Flexi is a prim that moves and flows with your avatar; you'll want flexi hair, for example, and if you buy long skirts and dresses you'll probably want those flexi as well. Flexi - flexible. Some of my favorites: Hair: TRUTH, Dr. Life. (Dr. Life is scripted for size and color change, but copyable and you can delete the scripts. TRUTH is modifiable, so you can change the size manually.) Clothes: Zaara (modern India-style clothing, also jewelry); Carrie's Lingerie; League Shoes: Baby Moneky (inexpensive, good prim count, deletable resize scripts); Similar (expensive, but very high quality) Jewelry: Rozoregalia (unique jewelry); Earthstones. I don't really run into problem with my script counts with any of these, although some do have scripts. (My script problem is usually HUD's...) Prim count really only gets bad with jewelry.
  25. As a buyer, unquestionably B. I'd rather be able to make back-up copies of items I bought, or put a copy of an item in several outfit folders. If I want to buy a gift, I'll either give the person the $L to buy it themselves, or go searching for an item with a "gift" option. That way if it's for me, I can have multiple copies for editing or outfits, and if it's for someone else they can have the same option.
