Did this feature just get added today? I noticed the site was down earlier for an update. I have also seen it actually name the users. Is this a privacy breech for those who browse forums? How do you feel about this? And could it at least say "2 other users are also here"

Bausch AND Lomb! A "core" is a synonym for "processor". Computing machinery with multiple cores can execute multiple computations simultaneously. An application, such as a viewer, is said to be multi-threaded if it is composed of independent sub-tasks. A modern operating system running a multi-threaded app on a multi-core CPU can execute sub-tasks simultaneously, thereby improving performance. That is the point. This has been the case since at least the 1960s and is general purpose. For an example of how synchronization of concurrent algorithms was described back then, see the Dining Philosophers Problem as posed by Dijkstra. Development of concurrent algorithms is often difficult, but the performance improvements can be great.

This is true, you are absolutely correct. Second Life does not exploit advances in GPUs (e.g. RTX ray tracing) or multi-core CPUs (so I have been told). I only use the Ultra setting for photos, when FPS is irrelevant. Second Life is just NOT a high-end gamer platform and new users that require that will not stay. FULL STOP. Note that at any one moment, all the online residents of Second Life could be seated in a US major league baseball stadium. Not many of us. Future not bright, no need for shades. Barring an unexpected mass infusion of cash, not likely SL will ever be graphically upgraded. On the other hand, if the cash did appear... I would be inclined to go in the opposite direction... getting SL to work on mobile devices (I know this has been previously attempted but understand that those attempts were "suboptimal").

For the record, let it be known that this limitation on the number of items that can be contained in an inventory folder is a consequence of some implementation decision that was made decades ago... specifically some address field of an inventory data structure likely has an insufficient number of bits. Or something like that. It is perfectly reasonable (to me) for someone to have a totally flat inventory and find things via search. But times being what they are, better to just work around the real issue. If the work around is simply to take spread out flatland over several machine-named folders, one can STILL ignore that and find everything via search

My understanding (not 100% certain), is that each choice has a 24 hour timer... if you make a choice at 5pm, 6pm, 7pm, 8pm, and 9pm..... then go on vacation until 7:30pm the next day... you will have 3 choices available..... but the other two will be there at 9:30pm... capeesh? If you can find that it would be a very expensive parcel. Linden Lab charges (membership+tier) the least (per sqm) for 1024 sqm ownership but rapidly jacks up the price for the additonal sqm until you reach 1/4 reqion then it starts to decline. Persephone describes a common tactic for reducing fees... premium stacking. or using alts and multiple accounts to exploit the cheap entry level pricing. Bottom line, do the math for the number of sqm you wind up with to make sure you are not overpaying tier. Linden Lab makes it very difficult for non-spreadsheeters to figure out how to structure tier. But initially, buying the land in your desired location is going to dominate the economics. Also, if you don't care about the Premium Plus "vegas perks" like picking a Linden Home or uploading a huge number of textures, regular Premium is almost always cheaper. Also (again), the fairest way to compare pricing is to subtract off stipend (what LL pays you per week) because you can convert this back into dollars and use it to make future tier payments. Yes... it's complicated.

I use the "prim as wall shell/skin" method to add accent walls to a Traditional. If you do this for multiple walls, be sure and link them all together and make the root prim "convex hull" to cut the LI in half.

It appears that traffic reporting is delayed. As of 6:59pm SLT on Thursday, Aug 25, the traffic is 1613... a number I would have expected 24 hours ago.

The photo is what Zindra looks like at 1000m (shot from an arbitrary locaton). My suspicion is that Zindra would be last on the priority list for sprucing up at ground level.

In Second Life, property owners can exclude access to their parcel. Consequently, if you purchase a parcel and desire access to connected protected water, you must make sure that said parcel actually borders on connected protected water. Otherwise, you depend on the kindness of other residents (many are kind but some are not). Linden Lab is under no obligation to remedy this situation, although rarely they add regions that have this effect in pursuit of other objectives. With respect to Satori, there is no guaranteed access in some stretches... Steinhauer to Malfelonious on the southeast coast and Carver to Graybar on the southwest coast.

I have always believed that the traffic statistic in About Land measured avatar-minutes of the prior day measured from midnight SLT. Evidently not. The About Land Wiki says Previous 24 hours? Updated 2 times a day? Here is my confusion. I hosted a party on Tuesday from 5pm to 7pm SLT and expected to see a traffic number of 1000 or so. The DJ alone would be 120. However on Wednesday at 7:48pm SLT, the traffic number was 96. So what interval did the 96 come from, that is, when did this interval start?

I agree. My "amendments" are about what you should not do. Based on posts by @Abnor Mole, I have confidence in the ability of Governance to allow benign encroachments.

Usual reason... When I AR, action is rarely taken. Recently I went looking for rules about protected water encroachment and found none. It occurred to me that this is perhaps why governance rarely takes action. Additionally, so that some flexibility can be given, I think it is useful to treat channels differently than open water.

I would be helpful to residents if Linden Lab would update and enforce the Mainland Policies to include language concerning encroachment on Linden Protected water. Consider these three amendments. 1. Protected water channels of width 16m or less cannot be encroached upon by any object, including transparent or phantom objects. 2. Protected water may not be encroached upon by parcel build extensions (e.g. docks,) OR objects that block, wall off, or claim public areas to the exclusion of other residents (e.g. cliffs). 3. Protected water may not be encroached upon in ways that are an obvious hazard to navigation OR are non phantom. The intent is to allow nautical decoration (e.g. splashy rocks) if built according to these rules.

Excellent observation. I just motored from Citadel lake to Phloom in a Bandit 170, which would likely be the largest sized boat that could make this trip (it passes all bridges with bimini up). As you imply, once in Phloom one will be able to go along the (currently unfinished) diagonal to either the east or west coast of the Newbrookes. Great for paddled or motorized small boats. Your posts are SSP thread appropriate as we are discussing yet to be SSP regions

My only "request" for this years Halloween is that if the Lindens have another Bellisseria Trick-or-Treat hunt, they should organize it differently. Last year they asked residents to set out official pumpkins for people to find across hundreds of regions and awarded prizes for those finding the most. Of course, nobody can hunt across 100s of regions... consequently people started distributing lists of landmarks to the punkins. This created what might be called an "unlevel playing field" and is contrary to what most people expect when participating in a hunt. At least if you found one punkin, you got a Skelly Bear at the end of the hunt.
