I don't really see any point. The only possible use for an adult-rated Linden Home is (a) having sex in your garden (with view avatars on and security off) and (b) putting explicit artwork in your garden.

The primary purpose of Adult Land is to allow adult-rated business - a sex club for example, or a store selling adult-rated products. But all kinds of commercial activity are not allowed in Linden Homes anyway, whether they are adult-rated or not. Even tip-jars are not allowed.

On Moderate land you can still do the non-commercial adult stuff, like having sex, as long as no-one else can see it. Turn view avatars off and security on, and you can even have sex outside if you want to, because with those settings you've moved "behind closed doors" to the border of your parcel instead of the walls of the house. Also maybe worth pointing out that nudity (without sex) is allowed in Moderate regions. You can be (and I have been) naked in my garden, and in the street, and in a community area, for example.

So, who wants to live next door to someone with a full-bright screen in their garden that's scrolling porn 24/7?

I mean, to each their own, but the idea of doing some gardening with your neighbours doesn't seem unpleasant at all! You know, you and the partner go outside to plant some flowers only to notice that your neighbours are watering their lawn, so you do it together!

That said I can live without it. :P

Normal looking breasts as opposed to the pin up model pointers I've got now 😜. Is there a popular brand? Which one is most common?

You might go for something like SKNK's BoobAdjust for a variety of options in HUD form. There is a demo in world if I remember correctly.

  3. How are you looking to deform your breasts? Which natural look are you going for - perky, heavy, motherly...? There's all sorts and it depends on which body you're using too, you won't get a clear answer with this little info about what you have and what you want.

When I'm in SL everything is how I see it in-world. I immerse as my version of me.

Besides the waste of space that are those mesh animal attachments if an actual animal avatar, such as a dog, sniffs me I may "/me pats his head and scratches behind his ears". If he talks I move along. Dogs don't talk in any universe I ever occupy. I'm not Miss Dolittle.

If a dog can be led along and taken for walkies with the occasional "woof" then that's fine.

When it comes to furries I just don't geddit. I'd never be one.

I talk to humans only, especially men who portray themselves as being older than your average 97.8% of fit and hunky types. Yes, fussy means less but I like and enjoy my own company.

I assume that you also don't fly or rez/move large items then, if you want perfect realism? Or is the line specifically drawn at "talking animals"? I'm not being mean, I'm genuinely curious to hear about it if you'd like to tell!

And grumbling about Legacy (something about not allowing certain mods? Furry mods? Squishy boobs? Something?) has been tearing through my stream recently too.

This was TMP allegedly refusing to give out their devkit to clothiers who also create furry items, because they don't want their body to be used by furries, which is just another bizarre decision in a very long series for them.

Derender option on inworld objects is very important, because bad laser beams and disco lights. But it could be disabled maby for avatars. It's indeed not usefull to derender on avatars.

Then griefers could just wear megaprims to cover the sim anyway. Or particle emitters. Or just big posters that have pictures of unfortunately stretched bodily orifices. It's necessary.

I've never experienced this "vibration" problem you describe. You actually want your skybox over 1,000m, because ground textures are not rendered by the viewer above that height. This increases your FPS performance amazingly. I get 3X the FPS in my skybox than I get at ground level.

If you're curious regardless, there's a thread that explains why and how it happens here on the forums.

  8. Yep, as you said, LL basically has to financially incentivize some big creators into making clothes for their bodies. This is, for example, what TMP almost certainly did with Legacy even if they'll never admit it. The bodies didn't start out popular but long before I saw a single person wearing one, Blueberry and such were already rigging for them. Probably also creators of various unmentionable attachments of adult appeal. :P There have been lots and lots of excellent bodies that didn't succeed because people don't really care for quality, only availability of clothes and bits. So it has to be kickstarted.

Which creators? I can't really say. It might be enough to go for ones that make modifiable clothes, like say Neve/Coldlogic, or Kaithleen's... or just stick to the tried and true Blueberry :P

And no permanent structures in the sky below 1000m. (Those are also advantages of Bellisseria, so it is possible to enjoy them in non-private regions.)

And to illustrate how tastes and needs differ, this is a negative for me - as you go too high up, your attachments start vibrating, which I find absolutely infuriating even if it's barely noticeable. Ideally I want my skybox *below* 1000 meters since I adjust and modify stuff a lot, all the time.

I can totally see this as being one of the main reasons to live there. I have been looking at fully furnished Maven homes, so pretty much a rez it, click, and its done. So even if a "Simmer" had a bad day, I could just relocate. I will say however, the number of guests being limited is something I certainly have not taken into account. Had no idea they even limit that. Sure, im not going to have club parties, but I would like the occasional get together, and would hate to be limited in Avi's able to be present. A 4096 plot home can have a hell of a party technically.

The people count isn't automatically enforced in the places that do it, but sometimes they have staff keeping an eye on how many people you have on your parcel. You'll 100% want to read the covenant in detail; I remember one where a 1024 parcel was only allowed to have the host and two additional people on it. There's all kinds of stuff like that they don't mention in the brochures.

  11. Being on mainland ensures that you won't get kicked off your land because the landlord has a bad day, won't have to limit your creative impulses to what the actual land owner allows, can have any amount of guests (a lot of rentals limit that - read the fine print!), and so on. You pay for freedom and safety, basically. As for lag, it all depends on the sim and what else is on it; that applies to private rentals too, rather than being just a mainland problem.

  12. I've always felt like neko is more closely connected to the various anime-themed communities on SL than furries. It's sort of like convergent evolution; superficially the furry and neko look similar, but they evolved separately due to different cultural influences. One from western scifi and cartoons, the other from anime and manga.

Similarly, My Little Pony shares no cultural DNA with furries, since they're more a fanbase of a single TV show that would've likely happened even if furries didn't exist.

This is not a hill I care to die on in the slightest, by the way, but since we're all talking about it anyway... :P

(also, as a sidenote, I've never seen either of those groups unwelcome in furry sims - but they feel like distinctly different communities to me)

  13. While I doubt there's anything you can do, if it's of any help, any sim that still uses that system - especially now in 2022 when nearly everyone has a dynamic IP that will be assigned to people all over the place randomly - is categorically not worth visiting. Every now and then I get one that'd been used by someone else for nefarious purposes, which leads to Google giving me captchas to make sure that IP isn't connected to a bot network anymore.

But I digress. Your best bet would be giving them the benefit of the doubt and informing the sim owner about this little tidbit. Tell them, as nicely as possible, that the system is absolute garbage and largely only costs them legitimate visitors, maybe without using the word "garbage" but strongly implying it. :P

Lame... Such is my only thought when watching this video (thank you for pointing it out, since I won't have watched it otherwise) !

Why the Hell is LL advertising for a specific body mesh brand ?  Especially one that is so heavy on (actual) rendering cost... I mean there are many other (less known/popular) mesh bodies around that look just as good and are not so heavily taxing on performances.

I wonder how much LL got paid for this (or perhaps they just considered the indirect revenues they got from that brand deserved ”free” advertisement).

Which other ones have mass appeal, have a lot of clothes, and are relatively light to render? Maitreya is by far the best balance. I mean, you couldn't show off something like Kupra because it's very niche, or Legacy because it's absolute FPS murder, or Slink because then newbies would struggle to find clothes.

I feel like they just picked the body with the widest appeal, rather than any payola... but of course, making any pick at all is still misguided. :P

I'd want a HUD for feet height and nail lengths and other fine details. You can't omit them if you want anyone to use the body beyond the first three or four months - and if people are going to abandon it ASAP, what's the point?

Why a HUD instead of simply attachable, different parts? It's a senseless waste to have three or more nail lengths and foot positions always glued onto the body.

I'm not sure an entry-level BOM mesh body actually needs a HUD.  Skins, layers and alphas can all be handled with BOM. You can vary heel heights by having old-school detachable feet, which should also reduce complexity. (Nails are trickier, but could be detachable like feet to vary the length, with another BOM layer to apply polish.)

Heads, though, are an entirely different matter...

The only reason *any* mesh body needs a HUD is because the creators make them no mod, and even then, nowadays most don't. I deleted all scripts from my Maitreya ages ago to save on resources. :P

As for if these will get support or not? Assuming that they're even half-decent, they'll be what every newcomer uses, and if they're actually good, those newcomers will never buy a third party body. So yes, they'll get support.

I find it sad and a bit typical of LL that their shiny new list of features are almost exclusively for people with Premium or Premium+ accounts and there is very little or indeed nothing new for the majority of people in SL who have ordinary basic accounts and who do not need, want or afford the Premium/Premium+ accounts and their fees.

What shiny new features do you mean?

  18. I did the full math on if this would be worth it for me. Currently I pay $99 per year and 8.75 monthly for extra land = $204 per year.

PP would also give 150 more lindens per week, so 7800 per year, which is ~ $35. Discounting that from the total price we're left with... $214 per year. I would have to upload 241 textures/sounds/animations to break even.

With the one-time sign-up bonus it'd be $202. Two-dollar savings for a year, woo! And then it's $10 more than the old price. :P Come on, Lindens. Sweeten the deal. You know you want to. And I want you to so I don't have to deliberately shut off my brain to see any reason to upgrade.

How about, for example, allowing us to own a linden home that doesn't count against land tier? You have so many options, sigh. Anything! I'm grasping at straws and mining for silver linings here!

being beneficial for creators also has an impact on any other resident. free texture upload, means less cost making something, easier to break even for some creators. Easier to make a gift here or there to make our SL more beautiful for every resident, no matter if they are free, prem or P+. And generally motivating to create nice things to share and enjoy, which is a huge part of SL.

But for some reason so many refuse to look at even that side and prefer to just complain, and make it all about " me, me , me... not for me... me, me," . Sad.

Unfortunately, every time someone has suggested "if we make things easier and better for business owners, everyone will benefit" it has universally not worked out that way. Less fees always translate to more profit, not lower prices. :P

Mainland does not cut it, people want pretty neighborhoods, a nice selection of homes. pretty place to live, without worrying the parcel they just bought will be surrounded by a club floating billboards and the other assorted crap, that you find on mainland.

Mainland is specifically what I want so I don't get suffocated by the building codes on Belli. I'll take floating billboards and assorted crap over uniform faux-suburbia any day. :P

Some kind of balance between the two where you can build anything as long as it has some effort put into it would be ideal but alas, they probably don't have the time.

  21. Don't really see the point on offering less than twice the benefits for more than twice the price. Why wouldn't I just go for two normal basic premium accounts? Then I get L$1000 lindens per week and the same amount of "free" tier for less. Equally, if it was actually double the real-dollar price I might still bite for 2048 sqm of land, but it's... not. :P

Back to the drawing board, I think. At least take into consideration that a lot of us still get the L$500 stipend!

edit: I'd like to add that I absolutely don't mind paying more for SL, I love SL and want to support it. It just has to feel worth it, which Premium does but Premium Plus doesn't.

  22. A few thoughts, based on my experience.

There are a bunch of clubs/hangouts where people just want total conformity. Everyone in a perfectly average human avatar, women in dresses, men in suits, no exceptions. I suppose it's a way to try to recapture or relive one's youth, or a fancier version of it. I can't really fault them for it, I suppose.

There are also social spaces where people just looove bullying newcomers. I call those "mean girl clubs" personally. Imagine high school where the popular clique would harass you for being different. Or for no reason at all. In SL it's done because you don't have Brandname X body parts, or because you're not using a human avatar.

Then there's realism and immersion, both worthwhile and misguided. Some people feel taken out of the world if they see a talking eagle in period roleplay/that style of sim, which is, again, fair enough. Then there's the aspect that irritates me, like oldtimey roleplay sims where nonhumans aren't allowed but the women wear outrageously revealing costumes that would've gotten them shipped off to Australia, had they actually worn them in those times. And so on. Mixed bag, your results may vary.

Finally there's people who just totally lack imagination. Human IRL, so must be human in SL, and in every game. Can't imagine themselves as anything but human, and they assume you're the same.
