My fix for this issue pending release of a repaired x64 client install package was: *** Download the 32-bit client and install it on my Windows 7 x64 system - logged in now and client verified operational *** There is apparently a bug in the x64 installer creating this error (open to another explanation, though it sure smells like a bug). Ironic and *rather sad*.

I also ran into the same problem after a clean install. This did include unhiding files under the Windows 7 x64 AppData directory tree. I repeated the problem through a second attempt after going to the extent of using regedit to strip all references to Firestorm and Secondlife. Why not create a version that has an automated clean install option? This issue appears to be impacting multiple users. I know I will end up going back to the older version of the client and remain on it until forced to upgrade, barring an announcement for a new and improved version that addresses the installer problems.
