  1. Oh good. Thanks. I had to stop asking simple yes or no questions in the support group. Being told to read the blog (or wiki) when a simple yes or no was more than sufficient and takes a lot less time to type out. I don't need a lecture on a simple yes or no question. Sometimes I get the feeling a few of the older support members don't want me asking any questions since I won't rejoin the team. I've been getting the cold shoulder more and more lately.
  2. I think you missed the fact that I was talking about dealing with individuals, on an individual basis. I use whatever term the individual prefers. Full stop. if I were to stay abreast of everything all of the representative bodies are saying, I'd never have time to do anything else. There are more organizations in the US than I can keep up with, much less adding the ones in other countries. People are too focused on what terms everyone else uses if they fail to see that most people, regardless of what terms they use, are well-intentioned. On the other hand, intentions are rather useless when they aren't acted on. There is one thing that hasn't changed in the past 60 years. Actions speak louder than words.
  3. Some habits are not easy to break for old(er) people. Words and (re)actions become deeply ingrained. It takes time and not everyone is going to be successful. I still call a lot of things by the names they were called 40 years ago yet are called something different today. When the word "disability" is no longer acceptable (PC) what will we call it then? There is a such thing as carrying PC too far. Some prefer terms that others don't, so I deal with it on an individual basis. I abide by the wishes of the individual and if I happen to be with two people who are of different minds over it, I let them work it out. So far, not even they have been able to agree on an acceptable, common term.
  4. If I were to use the FS built in AO I wouldn't even have one HUD showing on my screen. I'm currently using the AO that came with my VISTA head, so it's all Bento. I'm not real thrilled with some of the stands in it and I'd like to use some of my old stands but they aren't bento so I have no idea if the non Bentos will even work with the VISTA Zoe head and the Lara body, much less in the FS built in AO. So, until I finally get a round tuit, I'm stuck with a single HUD showing on my screen.
  5. *ahem!* HIs name is Wind in His Hair aka Rodney Grant. Didn't you ever watch Dances with Wolves?
  6. There's an old saying that I have found to be true. Wolves are more human than humans are.
  7. In the Us, that would be the trunk. In the UK, that would be the boot. Unless it's a Volkswagon. Then it would either be the hood or the bonnet, respectively. I think I would prefer my hair to be installed in the bonnet and my shoes in the trunk. Installing your hair under the hood and your shoes in the boot just doesn't sound very convenient.
  8. That was SL at its most fun. It was scary, too. Most scary fun! \o/
  9. Some just don't get that others care simply because people are human. That's all the reason I need to care what happens to people, even if I don't know them. They are human.
  10. You and I know that but... ...many don't seem to get it.
  11. Just don't forget the number of scripts you tote around contribute to lag. Doesn't hurt to keep a copy handy at the top of your inventory for quick easy access.
  12. Believe it or not, it was that way from 2004 to 2009, which was the last year I created an alt.
  13. As you can see, you aren't alone. I really have a strong distaste for walking on eggshells. Seems there is no such thing as a forum that ever does achieve true "middle ground" in moderating. It's always to an extreme. So we either have to bite the bullet or not post. The special snowflakes aren't going to shut me up though so they may as well add me to their block list and be done with it.
  14. How am I gonna necro this dang thread if you guys keep doing it before rigor mortis sets in?
  15. Sorry it's not 250k, it's 350k. I've been keeping mine maxed and I'm seriously considering dropping it some but I doubt I would ever set it below 100k.
  16. I don't think so. It happens to me when there isn't anyone else on the region, nor have I changed anything. And it will happen several times. When I'm idle, just logging in or even building. From what Miro Collas of FS support told me when I asked about it months ago, it's just one of the idiosyncracies of SL.
  17. Must have been the same female av I ran across a few months ago. I posted the amount in a thread somewhere. Maybe the derail thread. Even though she was an automatic jellydoll, her av lagged me so badly I had to leave the open air store I was at until she was gone.
  18. Yes, I do care. I try to keep mine below 50k (general advice is below 100k) and usually succeed because everyday wear. 1. I have a number of hairs that are high poly that I still wear on special occasions, although I have "replaced" most of them with a few mesh hairs. On this account I have the Lara body and I'm perfectly happy with it. My other accounts use the non updateable (some day!) Ebody and I'm perfectly happy with it. I would like to get the updateable one though. 2. I do take a good bit of care with my appearance but it isn't the be all and end all of my SL existence. I treat my SL avatar the same way I treat my RL body, I just don't have to bathe it to keep it smelling fresh and clean. I only wear makeup for special occasions (or work). I wear everyday clothing (jeans, sportswear, casual, beachwear) and usually change once a day (24 hours). I dress up (formal) or down (semi-formal, business casual) and add appropriate accessories (jewelry mainly). I have found, for me, the items that have the highest impact on complexity is jewelry and hair. Most of my jewelry are sculpts and they are the worst. But if you know what you are doing (not hard to learn!) you can still wear those high impact items without having to sacrifice in other areas. The knowledge is out there. Find it. Use it. You'll be glad you did. And so will everyone else.
