  1. Precisely and this is my main point that many who give computer specification advice always tend to forget. Obviously, SL will not work on a Chromebook. And it would barely run on the system the OP is asking about, but it would run, albeit with graphics set to a 2003 look. There is always a trade-of: "performance" versus "look of the world", to put it bluntly. As always, we must find the right balance that satisfies each of us. Part of the issue is that the viewers are basically "ports" of windows apps to macOS and not 100% from-the-ground-up native. But this is the case with many apps (including the other direction). I suppose the first response to people asking for system advice should probably be "What is your balance between performance and pretty?" Because in the end, that's how it always turns out. Unless you buy a new $20,000 Mac Pro, then you can have your cake and eat it, too and then some!. LOL
  2. I think it's an acceptable distance before break-up - farther away would be better, surely. But that's an acceptable distance and it also breaks apart gracefully. It's when things fall apart at 30 meters or less, or when large items (the main feature) falls apart like most of the laughably giant yachts in Blake Sea, etc. As for building components, there isn't always a demo to see (such as add-ons like this) - and even then, depending how they are displayed can make it difficult to check LOD (in a showroom, for example, preventing you from camping far away, etc. The reason I say the OP example is acceptable is even when flying over, it seems to appear at a decent distance. It's funny when thing s pop into view right when you're on top of them. Of course, "acceptable" doesn't't mean "wanted" - so if you're like me then yes: find another LOL
  3. Don't let the price fool you, this is absolutely the best HUD kit you will find in SL. I firmly recommend giving it a go. https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/Tavatar-ColorTexture-HUD-Kit-Free/4299174
  4. Try this: https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/Tavatar-ColorTexture-HUD-Kit-Free/4299174 Keep in mind that you are describing changing specific FACES, your mesh object must have these faces defined by the creator. And lots of experimentation will be required to get it right.
  5. Though, let's be fair. In this case it is so far off the mark there is obviously (to me) something in the bigger picture we're not seeing. Possible disability of some sort comes to mind. It's when a profile is generally written and there are the odd typos, lack of capital letters, no paragraph breaks and so on the I find to be... Let's just say I shake my head. Slowly. So, yes, I concur with you generally on the subject.
  6. Not sadly, but cheers. Apple always has had a history of cutting away the cruft, OpenGL is ancient crusty technology. The world doesn't't revolve around SL. In the real world I am seeing 4X performance improvements on similar-spec'd hardware of the same applications when compared side-by-side on macOS and Windows 10. Of course, if all one does is type letters to grandma then, well, once can only type so fast and there you go. I'm sure Linden Lab will find a way to continue supporting macOX, there are just too many macOS users in SL for them not to try.
  7. People like to proclaim that the performance of SL requires a powerhouse computer and that's not the whole story. It cracks me up how it is always proclaimed that you must have a Bugatti-powered gamer computer to run SL with any kind of performance. This simply is not true. Your graphic settings and window-size directly control the performance you get. The computer shown by the OP can run SL swimmingly, at minimum graphic settings. What people are really suggesting, but not saying, is: If you want a decent 1600+ pixel-size display at ultra-level graphics with all features maxed out and a draw distance of 500 m2 then yes: you need a Bugatti-powered computer and GPU. The simple fact is people always presume this is what everyone wants. To me, performance is as little lag as possible and as high FPS as possible. Turn of Basic Shaders and see what happens! Though, if this is unacceptable tom you then yes: you need to invest more money into your equipment. So let us look at it this way: You can get great performance out of SL on most 2019 computers. However, the visual experience of SL directly correlates to the amount of money you invest into that computer.
  8. Create new hair by right-clicking an inventory folder and choose New>Clothing Item>Hair - the menu item names may be different depending on your viewer, but creating a new eyebrow (Hair) is done the same way as creating a new shirt. Also, system eyebrows may also affect the *shape* of mesh head eyebrows if the head is designed that way.
  9. I write to communicate, how you perceive it entirely in your control. ~shrugs~
  10. Yes, it's when passing through and no matter the "smoothness" of the dissolve in changing, it's still rather... alerting... or "startling" (immersion-wise). At least it's not switching to night time when everything else is day time like it was LOL
  11. Right and I understood this the be one of the primary goals of the feature (eliminate the onion-skins, etc) - this is what I hope to see. My main 'argument' (not really an argument, but rather a point) is that it will be a long time before we see this really happen en-masse, especially not unless we can find the right skins and other items we have now grown to love and if those aren't updated to include system layers, etc, then we'll have to shop again. I've finally found a skin I wish existed 10 years ago LOL Though it *should* be trivial to convert any applier texture into a system later "clothing piece" - the real question is whether they will do that or not. I *do* look forward to the day that applies are totally irrelevant and system layers are the means to everything, object attachments and even if those use more BoM than not, even better. I'm just taking the wait (a couple years) and see approach.
  12. I have to comment: WTF is with the funky Windlight settings someone keeps putting the Fairgrounds region on? It really breaks immersion and, well... Do. Not. Like.
  13. I think you should. BUT, it will get lost in all the other complaint/vent threads. Though, I don't think I would lump that thread in to the Snowflake Fodder category. 😊
  14. This will be awesome if it comes to pass. I nagged @Patch Linden from the very beginning for SLRR tracks and I'm gonna claim credit (No, this was NOT planned two or three or five years ago already, it was my nagging! That's my story and I'm sticking to it! ~snorts~) - so if this doesn't turn out then I'll nag him about it again and again and again and again and... you get the idea! Hahahaha!
  15. Yes, I understand and I get it LOL Though it won't happen because, based on the last umpteen years I've witnessed, Linden Lab prefers not to invade privacy, which that would technically be doing (if it recorded the names) - though they also do not block that. This is why Third Party viewers allow you to auto-cam on people where the Official Viewer does not (or, at least, not until they did implement it - though I still use it, I do so rarely). BUT - there is this: you could just take the script (or buy just a script) and put it into any of your existing prims, right?
  16. Okay, the one of the goals Linden Lab had for creating BoM really cannot be achieved, the way I understand what you are describing. So onion-skin meshes are here to stay, regardless of what BoM offers. Albeit, I do still have all the system-based stuff I suppose I can use - but that will require a second copy (alternate version of) my mesh body, but that's easy enough. Perhaps as BoM evolves, they will implement a means to add the specular and bump layers as well. Who knows? As for right now, it's far too early in the game to predict anything, though currently the technology is mostly useless. It's the same with the new 5G spec for mobile: Lots of hoopla for a tech that still barely scratches its promised abilities and available almost nowhere, yet people are demanding to use it NAO!
  17. EVRYONE STOP! ~Grabs another bowl of popcorn~ YOU MAY RESUME. Everything after @Alwin Alcott's comment is entertainment. What he says in the first reply is all that really needs to be said, the way I see it. Rather than express my opinions on the mood and word-view of the OP, I'll just stop now while I'm ahead.
  18. There are always these in Market Place: https://bit.ly/2k8aWjl. 👍😊
  19. I agree. I like to drive the roads of Bellisseria, it's fund to explore that way and I plan to do the same from my trailer. I'm just wondering (and hopeful) they will connect the trailer roads in a couple areas to the main roads. Because every trailer will have access to a road (would be silly if not) and I can pull out from my camp site and go exploring the entire continent and then drive back home again. OH! I should ask @Patch Linden to PLEASE make at least one connection from trailer road to suburban road, PRETTY PLEASE (With fudge and cherry on top, honest)!?
  20. It will happen eventually as this is the one of the stated purposes of BoM to begin with: single-layer mesh bodies and heads, etc. Achieving this goal will take a long time and I suspect the best saturation will be around 80%, 85% at best (in a few years.)
  21. OR... You could just start with: /me "I want to help you, so go into the HELP menu and tell me what what the ABOUT menu item says." /they: "About Second Life" (or "About Firestorm" or "About Catznip", etc.)
  22. Here's a list of 8,500 classified as fantasy styles that are all mesh and copyable (no gachas): https://bit.ly/2lXiYvM
