  1. I think that shifting some resource towards better enforcement is a good idea, it improves the quality of the existing housing stock. I'm not sure if everyone shares the desire for thousands more homes with the same problems as before? Asking people to be reasonable only works when; a) they are here to be asked, most are not b) all people are capable of being reasonable
  2. I just read Patch's comments in the other thread discussing this and my understanding is, that this is about trying to be clearer about where the boundaries lie, and how we interpret the restrictions. Going forward, if there are genuinely more resources put into policing infractions, then this is what will have the greatest effect on the feelings of unfairness that the current situation has created. My view is, that residents new and old will take look around to see what others do, and use that experience to interpret the rules. That is the primary way that most people understand rules, by copying others, not by legally dissecting covenants. If current residents have tested the boundaries then this is a completely understandable human reaction to a confusing lack of apparent consistency in applying the rules. I personally, can more easily lose the creative builds, no matter how well done, if it means also getting rid of the hideous monstrosities which blight other parts of the continent. If the thoughtful community focused builds are targeted and we still have to put up with smoke belching seventies disco traditionals, and so on then, I will be back to thinking that this project isn't really working as planned.
  3. The way that the rules are policed is inconsistent.
  4. Your work is inspirational @Marianne Little! My decor jobs never look this good.
  5. The question that occurs to me is, do the powers that be within SL actually care about the customer experience? Is there a corporate value to promote virtual community, or a more cynical view which values short term survival more? Meanwhile, customers make the best of it, some doing so in a way which amazes me with their creativity and willingness to share. I have found myself 'flipping' at times, not through land purchases, but with my views on certain behaviour as my relationship with SL changes. When funds are low I feel more generous towards those 'sky tower' developments, a place to park with minimum cost and low need to be involved. I never actually rent one of those platforms though. When I run out of ideas, and have made yet another ugly build, I am more inclined to be tolerant of some hideous monstrosity garbed in 2008 textures made by another user. There are times when the world view of a 'land baron' seems perfectly reasonable, and other days when a socialist values based community would seem ideal. Some years I am grateful that SL keeps finding a way to survive, and other times I am utterly frustrated by the toxic neglect and lack of planning which leads to the issues everyone has mentioned here. It is not ok that parts of mainland have fallen into abuse, decline, and selfish exploitation. It is not ok that the powers that be have either no idea how to tackle it, or a lack of willingness to do so. This is despite the fact that I can't think of a way to do that either, without making considerable financial investment. In this way virtual worlds mimic real life, and solutions take decades, never completely solve the problems, and end up in a tussle between our various needs to belong and selfish desires.
  6. What a great idea, I shall adopt this policy at once, and call it the Sid Nagy patented safety net I wonder if we could add bounce for full effect?
  7. I wouldn't have a clue what was in or out of theme in Newbrooke, as I am unfamiliar with container homes. I'm not sure if any non forumites would know what these houses are supposed to be either. This is different to liking, or not liking, the style. I actually do like them. Therefore working out which addons may, or may not be acceptable might be a challenge, even for those residents who would like to stay within the rules. I doubt the current level of enforcement will continue, so waiting a few months will solve most problems. Playing 'guess what Patch is thinking' is always a losing game for me so I've given up the attempt.
  8. Communication works best when it is a two way process.
  9. I guess once the newness wears off and the moles have moved on, then governing out of theme addons falls to the usual channels. As the usual channels are usually overwhelmed, and only move quickly for serious issues then I guess people will be able to get away with all sorts of out of theme addons. From my perspective that is an issue, but some people will prefer that. Enter the tudor farmhouse with barn, sci-fi geo-dome and whole extra floor with helicopter launch pad mod.
  10. This release looks better than I had expected, especially that they have allowed for 512 homes on larger plots. I'm glad everyone seems pleased.
  11. I believe Patch came up with the term 'Game of Homes', I still think of it as home 'hopping' which is what we called it before.
  12. Winning felt like the endgame for me, it was the search and the forum banter that was so much fun. I had my dream houseboat for about a week and I was more sad that it felt over than anything else. Creating the map, the birth of a continent was so fascinating in the beginning, but now the process feels more focused on meeting volume targets and it is hard to be excited about new releases. I am really grateful though for the experience, and feeling involved in Bellisseria early days.
  13. It's an imperfect system when there are few homes available. There are ways to time your landpage visit to reduce the possibility of landing the same home (see Elena's reply above) but if you are looking for the same type of home you will see the same properties over and over. This is why some people time their moves to coincide with a new release as there will be more abandons in the pool.
  14. The Victorians were the first regions to have cloned regions, so my moment of starting to detach was back then, even though I resisted. It felt as if there was a large cultural shift, and the ongoing building plans were required to be more cost efficient and speedily produced, and in the latter cases, more able to accommodate denser packing of homes. Maybe this really was necessary in terms of survival of the project, but it sucked the joy out of it for me, unfortunately.
  15. Yes I do enjoy solitude in SL. I love having the freedom to hop from one place to another without consulting anyone, and lose myself in just looking at what there is. This is a different feeling to visiting a completely empty grid, which does feel lonely and strange.
  16. I can understand why creators might want to avoid youtube, as some of their ways of working can be actively injurious to the mental health of creators , but bitchute has a terrible reputation for hosting extreme right wing videos so despite loving star trek I am also not clicking that link.
  17. I'm going with the 'aesthetically asynchronous' explanation the next time I burn the dinner.
  18. I guess it isn't what you are looking at, more that others will be viewing your house from the street, or from their own plot. This is the problem with some addons, that they don't have enough stability to support the street scene, and you end up looking at messy triangles on neighbouring plots.
  19. If I were to choose a neutral, and my neighbours went for shrieky pink (trademark) then I'm not sure what the benefit to me would be, of choosing the neutral? Unless I went derender mad to the point of extinguishing the whole street? I actually liked the multi-colours in the traditionals, and I totally agree that many of the exterior colour schemes of previous builds have been a bit lacking, particularly the cabins. It's a weird thing not knowing what these were meant to look like, I read them as minimal 'modern homes' during my first visit. If they are really meant to be container homes then some more fitting exterior textures would tell that story in a more satisfying way. In the end they will be Linden homes, with a name that probably doesn't really describe the style to anyone whose name does not begin with P.
  20. I totally get it, these colours don't work for this style, for me anyway. I'm not anti-colour, but this hurts my head.
  21. I think I need to volunteer for a Patch anti-focus group. (the Patch distraction collective?) I loved the white minimalism. The colours seem to change the feel, and not in a good way Aaah well, if someone wants to make a thatched roof mod for these at least I won't be upset now.
  22. I'm not sure, maybe I am better shielding my eyes after the house on water houseboat conversions trauma.
  23. @Prokofy Neva 'responding to feedback' is just a phrase that Patch uses, it doesn't mean what you think it means, ie it doesn't mean what you would mean if you said it. I hope this feedback is meaningful as the word meaning has lost all meaning to me now after all the repetition.
  24. I would really not like it if people did this to their homes, it would be like some of those Meadowbrook 'farmhouse' conversions which looked very odd and out of place to me.
