I've always wondered, if you want your Stilt Home to be on sand, why don't you just get a Stilt Home on Land?

There are plenty of those that are partially over water, so you can have a deck on the water and rez a boat.

I have found that the Stilt homes which are partly on water have a much higher occupancy rate than the regular stilt on land homes, so it would make sense that they don't come up that often.

I actually did land an edge of sim, unobstructed view stilt on water with decent neighbours and I couldn't force myself to decorate it. Some people really want a garden, or a land connection, despite also wanting somewhere to rez their boat.

The system or algorithm is far from ideal. I don't know enough about computer programing to describe a better one, but I believe it wouldn't be too difficult for a Linden programmer to create such.

This system has been a problem before we had Premium Plus, so it's not by design that it's so frustrating.

I am definitely not a programmer, but this situation does remind me of encounters I have had with other games and software, where either a utility has been 'bought in', or was designed by someone who no longer works for the company.
In the cases I have met before the supposedly time-saving decision to buy in results in a facility that doesn't quite work as intended but which is not really robust enough to be altered, and would need a complete rewrite. In the case where people leave, it can be hard to interpret their work, maybe they don't write good notes etc etc.
I suspect if tweaking the program were an option they would have done it by now, and the complete redo must be the only option.
I have also been told, in the past, that dealing with very large databases is akin to sourcery, and things that would work with no problem on a small scale will throw up utterly bizarre and unpredictable errors.

I have wondered about this too. Especially because the best parcels often seem to get taken by the same people, even before Premium Plus.

But maybe I'm just being paranoid.

I think it would take too much tme and effort for staff to manually patrol empty homes and assess whether they are the best plots or not.
The suggestions posted elsewhere seem more likely, that the website is optimised by only making a limited number of the available plots to choose from, and that recently abandoned plots, for whatever reason seem to get put back in the 'choosing pile'.
The usual reason that things like this don't get fixed is lack of time, and concern about breaking something and ending up with facility not working at all (or taking a long time to put right).
In that circumstance, the best time to go home shopping is when new themes are released, because some people usually abandon old homes and the piles get shuffled that way.

  4. I have found that SL has allowed me to get to know some people who I would have hesitated to approach in real life, and I am glad of that. I do get deterred by certain kinds of avatar though, which does get in my way at times.
When someone is tricked out in all the latest gear and looks too perfect, I find it intimidating.
The other instance are those avatars who wear overtly sexual clothing, or next to no clothing, in neutral spaces, I find it very off-putting.
All the rest, including no-mesh avatars, tinies etc and so on aren't really an issue for me.

That said, they seem to still be quite popular.

Sometimes you can find more green dots in L1 Homes than in Belli, though this doesn't mean too much given how huge Belli is compared to the L1 regions.

Still, they can't ALL be Tiny Empires bots. Folks are clearly still using that land. And even Tiny Empires bots are still users using SL to do their thing.

That's what I have noticed too, and the patterns of green dots seem quite natural too, mostly singles with a significant number of couples mixed in.
There are a fair few empty but occupied homes as well, or empty save for a pose stand and some other essential items.

  6. I can't help feeling there ought to be ribbon cutting and fireworks set off when the connection finally gets made.
Next we need a special guide for we permanently befuddled so we can get our brains around the underlying geology, climate and weather patterns of the new continents.
Maybe Professor Lawrence Ruddkisser presents a lecture series explaining how the permanent high pressure zone above the arid med region works in conjunction with nearby moister regions?

  7. Back in the distant past, my ancient alt wore herself down to the knobbly knees helping to organise big events with partial Linden backing.
I can say what we were looking for in participants were,

    • People with a proven track record of producing the goods they promised.
    • People who were community minded and tended to think beyond their own self-interest.

    • People who were able to take an even handed approach when things went wrong, and didn't tend to create excess drama.
    • People who had a good background knowledge of SL, its strength and limitations.
    • People who could make an honest assessment of their own skill levels and what they were able to contribute.

Even so, things always went horribly wrong in one way or another, but the show still went on, with some cost to the organisers' sanity on the way.

If someone wants to spend the time and work making an exhibition for me to trot round as an idle spectator then thank you very much.

I'd pack up and move to Belli or a Mainland 2.0 in a second with my PP account (and my male alt's P account) if two things happened.

First, the homes LL offered on them could include at least a handful of other approved builders because compared to Scarlet Creative and Trompe, I think LL home designs are dreadfully boring and not good looking.

And second, LL offered Belli commercial zones where what you rendered was a storefront/shop and not a residential home. Create shopping districts to wander around in. Then again, apply point one. I'm uncertain that LL could design a range of decent looking commercial buildings that would compete well with most other architecture/builders here, so the first point applies to this as well.

(Honestly, if I could put together another $50/month? I'd most like just do the Homestead thing with my PP account.)

The big win for the Linden homes from my point of view is the stable LOD at distance, there are so many houses available to buy commerically  which collapse into 'triangles' at quite a short distance away.
Anything which tries to cram too much detail into not really enough prims is particularly prone to this unfortunately. This factor has got to be a factor in the aesthetic. The moles had a mission statement that they wanted to create a whole environment that looked good even for those with lower powered PCs and at smaller LOD settings.

I have a great scroll wheel on my mouse.
No need to block people.  Someone who is a pain in the ... one post, can post something really interesting the next time.
I don't want to miss that.
We all have bad hair days every now and then.

My block list is tiny, but even so, I find if someone I have blocked says something interesting then someone else will generally quote it, so that saves me a lot of effort wading through the 'who knows where it comes from' negative emotion hose-pipe of doom to find the pearly rainbows of occasional sense!

  10. This is looking really nice, and shaping up to provide a big choice of interesting journeys by boat. Thanks Abnor and team!

  11. I have spotted a gap in the market.

Many sl avatars are amply proportioned in the chest area, but the underwear available is clearly not adequate to provide proper support.
Shoulder straps which are too narrow, fabrics which look flimsy, cup coverage which barely reaches the edges, I am sure you have seen the examples yourself.
So many residents are heading for back pain and ongoing discomfort.

In addition, many clothing lines sport tops and bottoms which don't meet in the middle, leaving scope for cold draughts and risk of chills.
I could also mention the ultra high heels sold, with no thought for foot health, and don't get me started on skimpy swimwear which would be unlikely to survive a few laps of any municipal swimming pool.

In short, what is needed here is a traditional lady's wear store, which sells well constructed underpinnings, thermal base layers, longline blouses, sensible wide fitting footwear and a range of high stretch, tummy taming swim garments which cover all the vital areas with a considerable margin of safety.

Of course I forgot to mention traditional waist high knickers, not necessarily in old fashioned floral designs, because you can be trendy, whilst being sensible. Nightwear could be added later, possibly something in a brushed cotton.

I think about starting this kind of shop every year, and then think, nope, nobody's going to buy the stock, sigh.....

Anyone else have fabulous ideas that just won't work?

  12. Wow, Mairzy Doats is an old song reference!

    Lyrics (1943)

I know a ditty nutty as a fruitcake
Goofy as a goon and silly as a loon
Some call it pretty, others call it crazy
But they all sing this tune:
Mairzy doats and dozy doats and liddle lamzy divey
A kiddley divey too, wouldn't you?
Yes! Mairzy doats and dozy doats and liddle lamzy divey
A kiddley divey too, wouldn't you?
If the words sound queer and funny to your ear, a little bit jumbled and jivey
Sing "Mares eat oats and does eat oats and little lambs eat ivy"
Oh! Mairzy doats and dozy doats and liddle lamzy divey
    A kiddley divey too, wouldn't you-oo?
A kiddley divey too, wouldn't you?

We had some dooshy guy for a while who was doing the same thing, actually. Spying on a lady on our sim and posting videos of her. We banned him left and right and he just kept coming back on alts. They'd walk in, go to the exact same spot, and just camp.

I started walking up and saying hello to him and asking him how the view was, etc.

He got annoyed. I haven't seen him in a while.

Of course, I was also dressed like this...

    snapthingy_001.thumb.png.b5a06371f63de03b3f0c30b99c83a0c2.png

And always greeted his alts as if we were old friends.

For some reason, guys who like spying on others hate it when others stand there and look at them doing it.

    People are silly.

I would be beyond delighted to bump into in world one day, and see one of these fabulous outfits :) This one being top of my list so far!

Oh all right, I'll search.  *grumbles*

    https://secondlife.com/destination/premium-wilderness-

There is a "premium" section of the Destination Guide, mostly sandboxes.

Yes sorry about that,  I put the link in another non Linden Home thread, I thought this was something everyone with premium accounts knew about apart from me.

(also being asleep put a crimp in me being able to respond earlier! )

Ah, so it is a "specific place", not a generic term for purposefully developed Premium areas?  @Raspberry Crystal

Nice that the avatar in the picture is a (primitive) Lion (maybe)!

No this is a place made just for premium members, you can't get in otherwise. There are vehicle zones as well, and the sandboxes.

  15. The moles seemed to have enjoyed making these regions, and I spent longer there than I expected.
One thing I really appreciated was a sense of background movement, flying birds for instance.
The planting is very dense, maybe too much for an actual Belli region, but I wish we could have that style surrounding some Belli homes.

I know one of the moles (sorry forgot who) said on this forum that putting proper functioning roads into builds takes up a lot of space. I wonder what it would be like to have at least one theme with just footpath trackways? Could we have denser vegetation in that case?

I know I am very late visiting this build but at least I am appreciating it now :D🌄

Idea: wear earbuds, if someone tries to talk to you, point to the earbuds and look away.

Peeve: people who apparently can't go grocery shopping without talking on a phone call the entire time.

During the pandemic I saw some very dangerous behaviour related to adult phone use and consequently unsupervised children.
The most memorable was a small child falling off a cliff. Luckily the child was able to hang on to the edge by his fingertips and was subsequently able to climb back up and seemed none the worse as if this kind of thing was a regular event. Neither of the parents noticed, they were both embroiled in their individual and somewhat miserable looking worlds of phone.
