  1. yes please, and i might as well as add some off my list too

    • ability for a user to retain their page display preferences across pages and sessions (it's very rude not to do that) - on all pages including Merchant pages
    • bulk/multiple image uploads (easy and standard for user input)
    • revisit the next-to-useless Reports pages - include ability to break them down into date ranges ie "most popular this week"
    • Multiple storefronts for a single maker - we can do it using alts, so why not for a single name?
    • ability to easily place a range of items on Sale without having to individually edit each page.... ie multiple select Check boxes with options for percentage discount, or dollar value discount, and would love automatic date ending
    • ability to bulk edit Slurl  - a drop down list of LMs for each merchant that can be edited.  When most Merchants have only one, but that information is duplicated across hundreds of records - that is bad data normalization.
    • ability to display more than 10 results on Merchants dashboard pages ( seriously - '10 results only' dates from the days of a 640 x 480 px screen)
    • move item Features from the tab it's on to the main product display page

I'll stop there - my time is limited for spelling out what are stupid design flaws from bad web designers

  2. You are going to change a system of automatic sorting in favor of one that dumps everything in one folder? How is that helpful to us....it's just making things harder for the user, and breaking what has been accepted for years.
This is plainly a bad idea, and would be obvious to anyone who actually used SL for more than an hr a week .

  3. Well, i can tell you some answers - because i have run the same experiement over several months with many items, and branded as such - "Pay What You Want" (although my items maybe have not as much perceived value)

Basically setup is same as described above... buying an item  brings up a price popup with button options and default set to $50 - they can overtype and set their own price. Lowest button is set to $5.

Average Items per customer = 5
Average price paid = 9 ld
Largest price paid = 183 ld (100 is not uncommon)
why the odd number? I asked and it was intentionally paid - not mistype

20% of customers only pay $1 - and as ya might expect, some buy quite a few items at that price.

  4. What exactly is the "Fix for marking undelivered orders as failed" ?

What was broken... what was fixed?

I ,and many others, are still getting "Delivery Partially Failed" at a rate of several times a day.

    Less Updates and they're shorter.
    Tweets get fewer.
Open hrs - now by invite only - We don't get told who/where, nor can i find latest transcripts.

How is this better communication Brooke?

  5. So lemme get this right - your recommending more clicks for a TGA file in one post, then in another saying don't resize cause it makes for more clicks if you change your mind?

We're trying to help a beginner with simple tips.
PNG is a simpler format to use because it has less clicks for process. A format that you can easily see - no alpha channels hidden from view to trip a beginner.

You may recommend a beginner not avoid 'issues' and spend more time learning your 'proper way' before they get results - I don't.
I have 23  years experience with Pshop much of it fulltime and I still don't know every aspect of it - I don't pretend to... but i certainly don't try to help people learn by recommending harder ways, or things they don't actually need to know. It's hard enough to learn this stuff as it is.

A long time accepted, and general rule of thumb, is to start with a larger size and size down... you can argue the exceptions all ya want - its still a general rule of thumb thats useful for beginners and for most situations. And i point to the pictures above to prove our learner already has useful/better results.

Perhaps you've had to write this stuff  "thousands of times over the years" because you're over complicating things and people don't get it?

  6. For a start,  try raising the resolution of your file, its good to work at twice the final resolution and size down when finished.

Drawing smoothly by hand is real hard to do, so theres a variety of ways to get around it. My advice is learn to use the  Paths tools (in Photoshop)  for basic shapes. Or use software like Illustrator (vector shape specialist software)

  7. Anyone can hold a sale and call it what they like.
Thats the beauty of competition - I can compete against  a Linden promotion easily.

    And unlike theirs;

    • mine is advertised on the Marketplace Homepage, and other pages within their site (via highlighted items).
    • i get  45% of original price - not 25
    • i'm not email spamming people who haven't "opted in" to my sales notifications
    • I get to decide duration, date, terms

Mines called the "Jubly Jub Deal" - 50% off - 3 days - Xstreet Only

I won't link in case Moderators use it as an excuse to remove this post - I don't think this qualifies under their "don't mention the competition" rules

  8. well i dunno about that Peewee. It worked for me when i accidentally forgot to leave enough funds in for an auction - transaction failed.

I doubt they leave it as negative balance now...would open the system to alt abuse - one person could win all the auctions and tie that land up for months before his negative account timed out.

  9. Am pretty sure if you do not have enough funds, the sale won't go thru. I'd transfer my balance to another account for the final day of the auction... chances are support ticket won't be looked at before the auction expires (although they have been getting quicker on the tickets)

  10. Go to your Merchant Home, choose Orders/Transaction History, then from the drop-down list choose "Delivery Partially Failed", then click Search.

I get 1-2 a day "partially fail" on an average of 35 daily sales. 12 days of this month i had none partially fail. So i'm gonna estimate that as roughly  3% failure rate - at one sale a day partially failing.
Some days i get way more - March 23rd i got 11 Delivery Partially Faileds. (approx 33% failure rate) and thats not the only day-  Mar 7: 11 fail,  Feb 6: 22  fail
Most of them have a payment status of "not Paid".

A 3 - 33% failure rate is high as a failure rate for electronic transactions. IMHO 33% is simply unacceptable.
And these are only the transactions labelled "Delivery Partially Failed "- I have some labelled "Queued" dated in January still sitting there.

I have magic boxes on 2 sims - one mainland, one island to ensure reliability :P

Am I the only one experiencing these failure rates? Whats your failure rate? Are you getting some days when losing lots of sales?

What is the official failure rate? and what resources are being devoted to fixing the problem?
(vs what resources are being devoted to the Daily Deal idea)

  11. Take the time spent on Dash Deal and spend it on fixing the delivery failures please.

Take some of that time and spend it on making Marketplace easier to use (retain user preferences).

This Dash Deal is just a blatent money grab... using LLs monopoly of the web sales side to compete directly with other advertising to push preferred products LL has a financial interest in? Is just wrong.

  12. I'd rather see time spent on fixing basic standard functionality than Dash Deals. Things like retaining my paging preferences between pages/sessions/days. I am soo tired of having to reset my preferences every few pages - and it's very basic  web design stuff to save those prefs.
    https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/WEB-3464

Why is development time being spent on Dash Deal when there's a known huge issue with products still failing to be delivered? I had 25 failed deliveries in a single two day span not long ago. And am very aware of others suffering similar problems. When is this going to be fixed and what resources are being devoted to it?

  13. I think it happens to all of us intermittantly. Here's a post of mine showing 22  failed transactions on  same day, i know others who have had similar experiences of bad days.
Most of the time, most of the transactions go through.

I am aware the Xstreet team are trying to address the problem - by changing the way magic boxes work.
Its been coming for months tho'. Like a lot of the major changes/fixes that seem to have been delayed by the major ebb n flow of staff changes in their team.

One other thought... do you have a copy of all your servers/boxes on another sim? It pays to - in case its your main sim acting up.

  14. Don't know luschsound and can't find it in google.

Winamp must be open but you can turn it's volume down, with that down you should be able to listen to parcel media as normal thru the SL viewer. You must leave Winamp playing to output the streamed music.

As for playing a musicians stream... usually they come with their own... you simply change the parcels music address settings to their address. Its fairly simple to have a script with a number of streams on click... I use that to change to musicians stream when they're ready (with a test beforehand).

As for charges - my experience with musos is they charge a base fee, and they get to keep tips. Fees vary widely. Many bring their own fanclub.

  15. Hi Woody

I'm no expert on this, but can help with basics,  and am guessing you're trying to use SHOUTcast.

re: streaming your own music... you may be missing key components.

1/ You need Winamp (or other player) to play your music,

2/ a plugin for Winamp to export that music, SHOUTcasts Winamp version here (at bottom of page). It is responsible for connecting/authenticating to the server software, then sending your stream to it.
If you use a hired service, they will   provide a url, port number, userid, and a password for you to connect to their server via your  plugin for winamp.

3/ server software to stream (send) that sound to others on the net. It runs on your computer*, or can be hired as you have done. Most popular server software used is probably  SHOUTcast

If a hired service, they also provide a public url address that is used as the end stream (that is what you set into Land settings, or a media player)

*Note: If you wanna run a shoutcast server from a home computer you'll need a lot of bandwidth - mostly upstream. Every extra listener soaks a little more.

4/ Your parcel set to stream a suitable url via media settings. I use a net radio station 'Groove Salad' as a test  - its always on at  http://scfire-ntc-aa05.stream.aol.com:80/stream/1018  if that's not working on your land, you know the issue is local to those settings. I always test with that stream - then i know at least the land settngs are working.
You will have your own url - provided by the stream hire service.

    Instructions for setting up
OK so presuming you have the stream hire all set up ok (reply emails with info etc). You need to install the winamp plugin. Then start Winamp, Find Options menu/ Preferences, then scroll down to Plug-ins/ Dsp/Effect and choose Nullsoft SHOUTcast Source DSP v2.1.3 from column at right.

    You'll get a popup window..
choose top tab 'Output, and then look for the Address, Port, UserID, and Password fields. Fill them in with the information from your stream provider. Note the port number.... that port has to be open through your firewall (a process that i cannot explain here but i can help with -IM me if needed). On the Yellow Pages tab.. switch "make this server public" off (the stream providers url is the public connect point). Also check the Input tab correctly reads Winamp as the input device.

Should now be ready to go..start some music playing in winamp and if all other things in place correctly - you should be able to hear your stream on the land.

NOTE: It can sometimes get confusing with using your computer to send and receive the same music - there will be a delay between. I use another computer to stream than i do to receive.
