  1. I would personally love to see a neck attachment point / bone structure so that things like collars and necklaces can work a bit more seamlessly. They are particularly annoying as they either follow the head or the body but cannot follow both unless they are rigged mesh which can be a bit problematic at times if you want to be able to resize or anything. Making a point that has movement based on other factors to keep a necklace collar etc in place properly when head / body movement happens a bit would be very nice. As the neck does actually move with animations and stuff but a lack of a control point leads to necklaces or collars cutting into the neck, having a control point and attachment there would allow the necklace to potentially move properly with the slight neck movement (this would be best for collars or chokers obviously as necklaces can be wider)
  2. Viewers are designed the way they are for multiple reasons. Firsty and foremost the UI requires buttons to function properly. These are not "tabs" but rather buttons that lead to specific functionality. These viewers can have these buttons laid out any which way (it is user customizable after all) You need to make things that function properly with the proper protocols in place from either Linden Labs Second Life server or the OpenSim/OpenGrid based servers (they use the same protocols for most everything) If you look into the viewers you will see you can design them specific ways. Firestorm has multiple skins to it. As you may be able to put an overlay using a different coding language on top of the viewer for some rather specific fucntionality that falls outside the realm of second life or open sim in world you are limited to protocols that the server code supports primarily. if you are using Second Life or an OpenSim based viewer do realize that for the most part you are limited with respect in many areas unless you pull openSim/open grid things apart (open source) and tinker with it and the viewer code far more in the manner that realxtend ended up working the viewer with Ogre3d and rebuilt the entire backend server based off opensim to do what they wanted both viewer and server wise. With the limits in place you could maybe design a limited viewer for your courses, but functionality wise they'd still be limited to the protocols of the server directly. Varying on what you are doing building a web interface that interacts directly with a HUD (heads up display) in world meaning shared media on a prim or http requests from SL may be the best overall bet other than tinkering with the server (would require A LOT of time and investment) There isn't a big copyright or propietary worry as unless you want to include havok or potentially vivox (for voice i'm not 100% sure you cant while keeping it open) the client and it's derivitives are open source. There should be little reason you cannot use a stock viewer or build off an open source project that already exists. It would help to know exactly what you are doing. Also if you want to break down a lot of why people set their UI up that way. Familiarity to them and ease of use for what they do. You can set your viewer up many different ways including some side docked buttons etc. The UI has been user customizable as far as placement now for awhile (otehr than the top menus)
  3. It seems like LL should be looking into these things a bit deeper and if they are legit on their own. If they are getting multiple reports from a single source accusing multiple people of stealing their products they should also report the person for fradulent claims if at all possible. Getting a lawyer and all is not exactly chaep so it may be that they don't even fight it. It seems there is a mysterious slew of takedowns lately and it seems it is purposley malicious to take down popular products.
  4. Also Abner to add into this SL is cross platform... Basing it on directX would leave everyone but windows users high and dry. OpenGL is actually just as capable as directX its just not used as often because Microsoft pushes directX hardcore. OpenGL support has always been good on Nvidia cards and isn't going to drop any time soon as they actually want their cards performing well in Linux or OSX or any other OS that makes use of them. Direct X is abysmal outside of windows... Only way you are going to run it is Crossover or something like Cider for Mac and Wine or Cedega for Linux.... It's a no go if you want any sort of cross platform play unless they are going to go out and support a dual graphics API which would end up convuluting things even further. Don't you agree? If they make a new engine completely or use an existing one they are going to need to either A - base it off openGL again or B - base it off a dual API setup or they leave the slew of mac and linux users (there are quite a few of both) in the dust. Saying OpenGL is a problem is a misomner really its a windfall and has been for a long time if people actually make use of it. While directX is good you are limited in platform and overall that ends up being bad for SL. One of the other problems is there is no garuntee of plugging in any current content to a completely new system. People like to wax on like this is a simple undertaking but you'd need to make sure of sooooooooooooooo many different things with the way things are now that it's almost problematic to do so. Also can we please stop comparing SL to anything else in existance in the gaming world... There has been literally nothing out there that has even been marketedly close to SL so you cannot compare it to battlefield 3 or something they are completely different in structure and doing SL with really high end graphics would actually end up a bit problematic due to all the streaming data sent back and forth especially for those with high data caps or slower broadband speeds Also the reason AMD video cards have some problems really is primarily due to AMD not supporting openGL extensions like Vertex Buffer Objects and other optimizations.
  5. I think one of the other problems Abner is that its not a simple task. What happens if all our current builds, current avies etc can't be ported over and worked nicely? Fixing the core functionality of the current engine and optimizing it would go a lot further.
  6. I think one of the issues a lot of people fail to realize is the technology behind second life is really one of a kind..... While you can get games today to look better have you actually seen any game with real time enviroments that looks better? You are referring to playstation's Home in your original posting which was nothing at all like second life. They supplied you with some pre made stuff and you could decorate your own little area but other than that it was just a big social chat platform. I think you misunderstand how exactly Home worked as well. It downloaded things to the console upon initial entering of an area but you didn't have any sort of real time building at all not like second life. You can't script, ad particles etc. Really you just have a limited option of clothing some furniture and your trophys you could use. Second life realistically doesn't overtly need a new graphics engine. The engine they have no can continue to be expanded things plugged into it and it can get visually better and better. Look at what good mesh buildings have done. What needs to happen is terrain textures get better looking, a better looking sky texture wise and people to actually make better looking builds. We also need an updated avatar mesh with a toggle back to the older one on top of it being possible so you don't break all current content. We need custom joints and the like on rigger mesh and further mapping techniques and further animations. The engine itself needs massive optimizations to be done to it too. There is no reason that SL shouldn't of progressed as far as graphics performance goes over the years.... The server side baking needs to be done, new object caching, getting the mesh deformer done, textures could be acessed in cache better too. Need to transfer pretty much anything still relying on UDP to HTTP unless UDP is absolutely necessary. Expand LSL further and maybe add in support for other languages and fix some of the massive resource pulling that happens with rezzing prims or a new avatar entering a region. Those need to be done first before even thinking about a "new graphics engine"
  7. There are many furry hangouts most are not straight up "straight" hangouts but there is a mixed bag of straight, gay, bi, and people that are just completely open. Me and my mate own Yiff Alley Lounge http://yiffalleylounge.blogspot.com/ & http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Helgrind/242/113/993 We are open to everyone both fur and non fur and an adult urban/grung themed hangout and we try to be friendly. I would reccomend exploring where you can as well though there is a huge world to explore and many furries out tthere from all sexual orientations
  8. Me and my partner own Yiff Alley Lounge fell free to stop by. It's an urban grungy fur club that is open to everyone both human and furry alike and we try and be very friendly http://yiffalleylounge.blogspot.com/ & http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Helgrind/242/113/993
  9. Kinzart Kreatures and Darkspot Designs have the best furries in Second Life in my opinion as far as avatars go. As far as clubs go me and my partner own Yiff Alley Lounge an adult furry hangout that is urban and grungy and friendly toward everyone humans and furries alike. There are many other places though like IYC, Yiff, and a few other big clubs, http://yiffalleylounge.blogspot.com/ & http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Helgrind/242/113/993
  10. I don't know if its due to griefing or what but Helgrind crashes repeatadly for the last week and 3 days now, we'll get a string where things are ok and then BAM down unexplicably. I've reported the sim being down numerous times and i think someone is generally griefing and causing the sim to crash becuase the sim is healthy when it crashes its not lagging in the least and just ends up going splat instantly. This is quite concerning really cuz its hurting the club me and my partner own and getting quite annoying... It needs to be investigated by someone pronto as to what is causing this. And others have said there is griefing elsewhere on the grid too on a few of these occasions... Time to break out the yardstick LL and do something about this...
  11. I actually tested this by taking off all my scripted attachments upon further evaluation the Limitation of flight without some type of assistance is Currently Exactly 165 Meters up. Search for flight enhancement among other things or use a teleport as described above, you can usually find one of these devices for free.
  12. Some areas are poorly script and will end up becoming sluggish if there are to many people in the Sim or there are poor scripts in the sim it can cause performance dips. You can adjsut your bandwidth under Edit > Preferences > Network as well as the disk cache in that same area to see if you can get an improvement in playability. You can also adjust your graphics options by going to Edit > Preferences > Graphics and clicking Custom and sliding around and unchecking things to see if you get a performance gain as well. You can also hit the Key Combination Ctrl+shift+1 and keep an eye on Sim FPS, Sim Ping, Physics FPS and Time Dilation as Well as FPS to see if there are Dips to see if it is your end or the sim you are in.
  13. You have to pay for your maximum tier level per any month that you hold it even if it would just be for 5 minutes... A way to somewhat avoid this would be creating a group and donating your land to group which gives you a slight tier bonus... This may not put you up to the limit you need it to be.... However simply subdividing and abondaning the overage will not make you pay less for the month you hold it. You would owe the tier overage for that month you hold it and then need to tier down before the next month to not be charge the same amount again
  14. Yes this is the case, the situation is that you should really choose your designer skin tones for the tone you want by trying on demos, they tend to look alot better then the base skins do but it is ultimately the users choice. You can always go to your inventory > create > new body parts > skin and wear that as well to get a base skin again...
  15. This is currently not a default option in the role for the everyone bit of any group, it would of needed to of been checked by itself, if you are experiencing group liability in group under the everyone role you should be able to go in and check under Members & Roles Tab followed by the Roles tab and and selecting Everybody as well as checking the General tab and my Title to make sure you have no other Roles you are a member of in that group. If there is in fact liability enabled for everyone then I would suggest you have a word with the owner of the group to see if you can change it or not.
  16. I would advise checking if the group has had some group liability paid out, This can result in you both recieving L$ and paying L$ but it is usually an L$ sink and not designed for the group to actually make any money. This can be found under Group and then clicking the Info button for the particular group and then looking at Land & L$, Group Liability is often the result of things like parcel directory Listings and the like...
  17. Currently if you go to Inventory and then click File in inventory this will have a selection called Show Filters. This option brings up a new window next to your inventory Window, It allows you to refine your filters by item type and/or When the item was brought/created into your inventory. This can be used in conjunction with the Search Bar at the top of the inventory window to refine your search down to the day and item name. Recent Items tab is also quite helpful if it is something that has been purchashed/re-placed in your inventory since you logged on.
  18. There is a search box in the upper area of the inventory window that lets you search for certain items by name, you can also go to File > Show Filters in your inventory and sort by Item Type.
  19. Previously this behavior was due to a limit on fleight height..... However Currently in all likely hood someone has a build at that height, quite possibly a mega prim... As there is currently no more limit on fleight height this seems to be the msot likely conclusion
  20. Hello There Shorahmin. Linden Labs implemented some outfits for Second Life awhile ago that include some actual skins. These skins take up the tattoos layer on the skin and are usually not semi transparent, as such they cannot be changed tone wise. To change your skin color you would need to find a semi transparent skin or create a new skin that has no layer on top of it and then adjust the sliders to the pigment / tone / color that you want.
