  1. Hey Oskar Last week you asked me to list things that would help estate mangers better monitor their sims. A friend of mine came up with a real good idea that I hope is possible and should be #1 to be added. He suggested a setting in estate to limit an avatar's script time/memory usage when joining a sim. For example the other day we had 40 people on the sim for an event and there was very little if any lag. Most guests had script times of around .500ms but then several script kiddies showed up with one that was well over 7.500ms. It was like hitting a wall people started crashing and most couldn't walk without rubberbanding. Once they were asked to leave the lag left and everything continued as before. If there was a setting that would not allow access to the sim if the persons script time is above X.XXms I bet that most claims of server lag would stop or at least ease aggravation on both sides and force those that write crappy scripts to do better
  2. Not sure if this is possible or not but set a group of machines to restart on AM and the other be PM and let the sim owner chose which machine to be on?
  3. 15 high scripted avatars will cause that. You need more data before jumping to the conclusion it is only LL's fault. While I'm sure there is room for improvement on LL's side as well I've noticed a lot of changes this year for the better. I own two connected sims on the magnum server and can cross the border most of the time at 480MH without experiencing a lag hit. However those rare times when one gets put on the main and the other magnum you're lucky to walk let alone drive. We drag race where a win or a loss is usually by a thousandth of a sec. The fact the races are that close says something for sim stability. But then again we don't allow script maniacs during a race. So instead of accusing LL everyone should go after those script writers that don't take time to write efficient scripts
  4. Hi I wanted to add to my earlier post on tools that would help with self diagnostics of our sims. There are a a couple things that I'd give higher priority then others just to get things going. #1. A region scan ability. Even if this was able to be only used by estate managers if general use would put to much pressure on the servers it would allow the use of existing tools to be used much more effectively. #2. Fix and sync estate script times with the statistic bar outputs and make both accessible to scripting. This one causes no end to arguments as to what is going on in a persons sim when the estate stats say there are 300 running scripts while the status bar says several thousand. I've compared readings with an empty sim estate will say 0 scripts yet statistics says several hundred #3. Statistics in order to use efficiently require an accumulation of data over a period of time. This requires a way to save an input of data. I'm not sure the reasoning behind not allowing a text file type logging of information in SL but keeping data in memory is not a good option #4. Fix Live Chat. It just adds to a persons frustration when they request help and just get a canned response from someone that has no clue what is going on. For example I contacted Live Chat about an issue where several people were getting booted from my sim over and over yet had no problem on other sims. I just wanted to know if it was a grid wide issue or limited to me so I could file a ticket better. The response was for me to clear my cache...........how is clearing my cache going to stop others from crashing? lol I know you all are working hard on new things to make SL a great place to be and have seen some of the planed features to come. The future looks bright and I feel like a kid before Christmas waiting for all these new toys LL already has planned thanks for listening
  5. Perhaps a restart time choice set by LL? Say like chose between 10am or 10pm settings and if no setting has been set use a default
  6. Boy I feel like a little kid on Santa lindens lap lol j/k But seriously below is a short list of items that I feel will help in self monitoring our sims 1 list of optimal settings/data returns for a sim example: a sim shows 100mb of allocated memory and if a sim server side allocates a max of 5 gigs we're doing great but not so good if it's 500mbmax 2 paper on which data is processed client side vs. server side example: there is mass confusion when someone claims lag and quotes stats to say it is a server issue when most time it is their side 3 access with a script of estate script times and collisions example: when a script or object glitches and causes excessive of either yet memory remains constant 4 ability to open/close a sim via a script example: security in speed of response to a griefing. By the time you open the estate window and go to the settings it's usually too late to stop the sim from being lagged offline 5 ability to save a data log of sim stats and other data without using http example: there is a need to save a text file of data gathered by a script or to write settings either saved server side or the users hard drive. Accessing a web page via http requests can be extremely laggy depending on internet traffic especially if only one line of text is needed 6 be able to count and acquire the name and location of an object that suddenly spikes in http requests or script time/memory example: objects script suddenly peak above an average such as when a script may be stuck in a loop. locating a defective script can take days even with estate tools 7 ability to set all estate settings via a script such as blocking physics example: again this is for security for a faster response to a griefing 8 data for both current and average script times example: to define if a script has peaked or is running consistently 9 ability for a script to notify a person using excessive scripts automatically example: a message via a viewer can be seen as an attack on a persons character and the sender doesn't even know it was sent. an object sending is seen more as a function then an attack 10 way to identify alts (sever security issue in not being able to) example: one popular method of griefing is to create several alts attack with one then log into the next and to attack again so on and so forth then delete all the accounts to avoid tracking 11 data stream from the statistics window example: most of the data provided can't be accessed via scripts and again there isn't any information as to which reading is way high or low 12 scanners that cover the entire region and not limited to 96m 13 data on image/rendering costs per object example: someone loads a sim with textures of 1024 or higher which can cause sim lag which isn't shown in any report window 14 location and list of objects owned by a specific person along with prim counts(land options) example: the ability to locate and deal with an object that is lagging a sim 15 notifications of grid status report changes without using http requests example: a sim suddenly has an issue and having to go to the web page to see if there is a status update. Doing via http requests is bad if half of sl is checking the page at the same time
  7. I don't think the level of communication Ayesha wants is even possible. I mean there are 60,000+ people online right now and how many lindens?. No way they can keep up. I still think that self help by sim owners is the way to go to not only speed up fixes but to also take some of the load off LL staff so they can concentrate on fixing the harder issues.Oskar tap into that unused rescource of some of the brilliant and imaginative minds that play SL PS we work real cheap lol
  8. Personally I've seen major improvements in stability and other issues since last year. While it still needs work most of any sim stability issues are caused by inconsiderate people who load themselves down with enough scripts to crash NORAD But something that would help sim owners now that we are getting tools to better watch our sim performance ourselves would be a list of what is optimal returns for sim data information so we can deal with a script that has gone wild or other situations
  9. I see you released scripting features that effect the majority of vehicles on the Blue Steel server when most vehicle builders are on the magnum or Le Tigra servers.
  10. Hi I ran into that problem myself. It usually happens when two viewers are installed and you cleared the cache in the other one. The work around is just clear the cache in Version 3.0 and it'll load fine
  11. Oh kewl a new toy. That one will come in handy! Thanks
  12. Hi With the glitch for the llSetPrimitiveParams fix being deployed to the Blue Steel servers next week may I suggest you switch it to magnum or eltigre as they have more objects that require that function so that it doesn't get missed again
  13. Boy you take a week off and nothing got done lol j/k
  14. So I have to pull all the boxes I have out in world and miss-label them and pay to have new ad pics created because someone trusts a faulty screening process? what do I list it under? Hats? It's a car period you drive it and has pedaling sounds
  15. I agree the method used to de-list an object is ridiculous. I just had my item "KK pedal car" listed as a car or truck removed due to improper category. Well it's a car and you drive in it and go 480 MPH. What category would it go in? Hats? Of course LL doesn't give any help finding out why so we as merchants can fix something.
  16. My pedal car was removed due to being in the wrong category. It was listed under cars and trucks. Well it is a car, you get in and drive it and can go 480 MPH so you tell me what category it goes under sheesh
  17. Everything is running great on my sims(magnum) including no group chat lag yay!
  18. If group chat is fixed how will we find time to do other things between posts!! lol j/k job well done thanks
  19. I have a magnum server sim and the upgrade of 6/6 left a large ghost prim just below the water line so wse can no longer race our boats
  20. Last weeks rolling restart left my magnum sim where it's crash soon as several cars were racing. Symptoms started out with note cards(which give the cars the settings) failing to save or disconnecting the user when save was clicked, Then sim FPS would drop near zero. Public chat lag would get to be up to 1 minute then people would hardly be able to move to get off the sim in order for us to do a restart. Our normal script time via estate data is around 4.3 ms and during these issues all scripts will triple their normal scores. This happened every day we held a race (6 days in a row) since the rolling restart. I contacted support and filed out a ticket but support was absolutely no help and just pointed out ways to improve sim performance which I did day one and no response on the ticket a week now. A restart would cure the problem but only if done within a 1/2 hour of the event.
  21. Hi since deployment my magnum server sim has crashed 4 times(once per day). First things to do with the asset server such as rezzing or card saving/opening stop functioning then there are major lag spikes until nobody can move. Our normal script time from the estate menu of 4.3 triples
  22. Hi I own a car racing sim and since the deployment the last two races we've had to do a sim restart mid race due to the sim starting to crash. Things like estate functions fail, sim fps drops to near zero and ping times are near 500msec for everyone. It's all we can do to get off the sim to the next one for a restart. As race cars press the servers to the limits it may be something to look into
