  1. @conoro, I've never seen one of these posts that you refer to. Could you point to an example or two? I have hated viewer 2 ever since it came out and I've tried it more than once. I do happen to use Phoenix, but not because of any negative ad campaign. I use it because I like the features it has.
  2. @Venus: While I admire the aims of the PIC, I have to tell you that I am opposed to badges. We don't need no stinkin badges! Seriously what would be the purpose for having a badge? Would it imply some kind of authority? I don't like Ranks and I don't like Badges. What I think and say either stands on it's own or not and no stinkin badge should make any difference. eta to add an s to stand to fix grammatical error
  3. Keli Kyrie wrote: When I was growing up I was skinny, dorky not to mention I started puberty late. I am sure you know how mean kids can be to someone that is different. As a consequence I did not make many friends growing up. Partly because I was unpopular and partly because I had a hard time trusting other kids because of what they put me through. All this might have been bad at the time but in the end it made me a stronger person that knows the value of friendship. I think maybe because of all this I have never deleted someone off my friends list. Keli I'm so sorry they were mean to you! But still, I just don't believe that friendships can be made by clicking a button and adding to a list. Nor do I think they can be destroyed by deleting from a list. I just think the friends list has been very poorly named. It's really more of a contact list and I think that how much contact an individual feels comfortable with varies from one to another. Most of the people that I consider to be my friends in SL are not even on my list. I don't need them to be there to know that they are my friends. And some people that are on my list are really just acquaintances. Those are the ones that I tend to prune if I don't see them anymore. And as someone else said, I never delete the calling cards so I can always get in touch if I need to.
  4. I'm one of those people. I'm a very private person and I don't friend casually. I always unclick the "see if I'm on line box" when I make a new friend. The only ones who get that privilege are my partner and a very few close friends who've earned my trust over time. Personally, I'd rather see that be the default. I would rather not know how many times a day these acquaintances are signing in and out of sl and I don't want to turn the option off entirely because I do want to know when my partner comes on. Sometimes I will friend a newbie I am helping and I usually de-friend them after the helping times have ended. I have a pick on friendship that sort of sums up my feelings on it. It says: Friendship It grows over time: first we see each other, then we talk, then we realize we like seeing and talking and we start doing things together. Then we go through ups and downs and we cheer and console each other. It's a truly wonderful and special thing. And it has not much to do with the offer friendship button in SL. So if you ask me to be your official friend, I may say yes or no depending on the circumstances. If it's the first words I've ever heard from you, then probably no. If you're new and I am welcoming you to SL then I may say yes. That doesn't really make us friends, but it may or may not become true over time. And if over time I never hear from you, don't feel bad if I drop you from my friends list, it doesn't mean we're not friends any more than being there made us friends. And if you really just want to rub pixels, better try elsewhere.
  5. Why should we have to give up anything because of spam? This new forum setup is already much too restrictive for my tastes. I don't buy into the idea that they could get rid of spam if only we are willing to become good little stepford clones..../me looks around suspiciously, eyes darting back and forth.
  6. Mine is just an optimistic little thought that is a quote from a Tom Robbins book. It sort of reminds me to stay in the moment, to not get stuck, a little like the birds from Island by Aldous Huxley, who keep saying attention attention attention.... to be here now
  7. I was watching a cute little video series called Imaginary B##ches about a woman who developed some imaginary friends because all her real friends were in relationships and she wasn't. The RL friends were trying to fix her up with this guy who was involved in SL. One of the imaginary friends flirts with the guy and he excuses himself and goes to his room. He is gone for some time and she goes looking for him and finds him cybering.

It's hidden so well that even if you know it is here you have to jump through several hoops to get to it. I go from my dashboard (where I am signed in) to Community then forums and suddenly find I am not signed in anymore. So I sign in and it sort of winks at me and says "oh yeah, you were signed in, weren't you." so it shows me as signed in again but also moves me back to blogs. So then I select forums again and I look for Offtopic which I have "floated" so it will be on top and it's a different (smaller) font and shows me one post. But I'm really determined so I click on the tiny Off topic header to get into the off topic section anyway. And here I see you babbling on about how great it is here now that noone is arguing. That's because most people gave up already. I guess I'm trying to be positive, though just to be pedantic, I didn't exactly say it was great here now that people aren't arguing; I said, well, meant, that it was great per se that people aren't arguing. But I do agree it's not 'great' here....I have the same problems you have stated above, plus I have never yet managed to get any of my floated threads to stay at the top, nor have I ever seen an off topic header...! where is that, pray tell? Unless you mean the one that's just below an off topic thread? I haven't seen one of those for ages too. The only way I got back to this one was by clicking on the link in the email. Although it's very peaceful here now, I am going to eat my words and say 'well, it is kind of dull and there are folks I miss and it's a shame they aren't here'. *sighs* Sorry Jaen, I didn't mean to pick on you. It's not your fault the sanitized forums seem to be devoid of life as well as strife. I'm just so frustrated that the new improved forums are so awful and they didn't even get rid of the spammer. I don't understand what they were trying to accomplish, but obviously they wanted to sweep the former forumites under the rug or transform us into Stepford clones.

They whine, stomp their feet, write long, rambling emails detailing the nature of their complaint but offer no solutions, and they take up my time reading their complaints. Please do something about this. P.S. Thank you My dear complainer, you are most welcome! Alas, I can not do anything about the complainers. It is not within the scope of my job description. And might I remind you, without these complainers, I would be out of a job? I can only listen and and sympathize. I can not fix things. But I want you to know that I do understand your complaint and I am so sorry that I have no solution for you. Next!
  10. Storm Clarence wrote: I would like to complain about global warming. Thank you sir, it's about time someone complained about it. So what is the problem exactly? Not warming fast enough or too slow? Please feel free to elaborate, I can commiserate with any level of complaint, but of course I prefer to understand just what one is complaining about. Next!
  11. T Elric Anatine wrote: Dear Miss (apologies for the length of this complaint but I wish to properly convey my frustration), My complaint is as follows: Despite diligent research in products and those who provide products, I find myself constantly at the receiving end of "the lemon" of the lot. Snipped Why does the Universe hate me? Signed, surrounded by incompetence. Gracious complainer, thank you for taking the time to explain in detail about your complaint. Recently we've had some complaints about the quality of our complaints and I can assure you that had they all been as verbose as yours, well anyway, that's rather beside the point isn't it? But it does strike a chord. All in all your complaint is about quality, or rather, the deterioration of quality even in brands you have been happy with in the past. I feel your pain sir. Next!

  13. I change frequently and sometimes drastically. I wish I'd seen you as the cube Stella. My favorite hunting outfit is the mannequin skins (and nothing else - no hair, no ao, no clothes) I usually use the black metallic but sometimes the stalactite. I've also shopped as a tiny to avoid the people who think shopping is a good way to pick up chicks. For some reason, I don't get hit on when I'm playing as a little Victorian bunny. As for my clothes, sometimes I will wear the same outfit for a couple of days in a row, but some days I will change several times in a day. I tend to be more oddly attired when I am not with my partner, He rather likes me to be the woman he met and fell in love with. I save my more daring outfits for him. My female shape is pretty standard now that I am not playing at being pregnant anymore. But I love to try different skins and then I might tweak the face a little to suit the skin. My hair is always white but the style changes every few months or so as I decide on a new favorite.
  14. /me leans forward and beckons to Faithless, "Come closer my dear, Did you know that you could make a good deal of money by pursuing frivolous lawsuits in this regard? Or at least that is what I've heard anyway. Are there warnings on these coffee machines about the the beverage temperature?" You may have found yourself a gold mine! eta to fix weird spell check error
  15. I am so sorry that you are not getting the quality of complaints you feel you deserve anymore, sir. Perhaps you would care to step behind the counter for a bit? :smileywink:
  16. Quinn Morani wrote: I am really annoyed that people come into my office and claim they only need 30 seconds of my time, and 30 minutes later they are still there. The only time I can ever get any productive work done is at the end of the day after everyone is gone. Whew. Felt good to get that off my chest. Thanks for listening, Kattatonia. That's why I'm here. I feel your pain Quinn. Time suckers are the pits. Next!
  17. Willow, I really feel your pain. I do. Office politics are so ugly, and meetings really put that ugliness up front and center. Have you considered pushing for online meetings? It's much easier to put your time to better use if they can't see you reading your email while they make their little speeches... Next!
  18. I suppose you may be wondering why I chose the entertainment section for this post. Well I thought it might be fun (entertaining) to see what kind of complaints people have. So the line forms to the left, Step up to my window and tell me what is bothering you. A gracious good evening to you sir, how can I help you? Yes, I'd like to complain. I don't like this new forum setup. I miss seeing the latest forum posts on my dashboard. I can't tell who is replying to whom. It's way too hard to find the off topic section. I don't like the ranking system and I don't understand why we have to have one. Thank you for sharing sir, I want you to know that I hear your complaint. I don't really have any power to solve your problems, but I am here to listen. Next! I'd like to complain about this freebie. I would like the creator to change a few things. Why don't they have it in fuchsia? Thank you for sharing Madame, I hear your frustration. At that price, I can't imagine what the creator was thinking. Next! My mother grounded me for spending to much time inworld. And she took my laptop away! I'm so sorry to hear that, I feel your pain. Next!
  19. I miss seeing it on the dashboard too. I never would have joined in the forums if it were not for their presence on the dashboard. And I know I am not the only one. Consider that for every person who posts there are umpteen people who just lurk.... I know some of my sl friends that do not post in the forums commented to me about seeing my name on the dashboard. And now that venue of communication is gone.:smileysad:
  20. Ode to Hippo by David Polansky I am a hippopotamus from my top to my very bottomus from my big fat hippo nose to my 3 little hippo toes i weigh so much so very very much that i float is quite a miracle I'm oh so round so very very round you could almost call me spherical no sense in remaining anonymous I'm a very very happy hippopotamus
  21. It's so nice to see everyone again, I've missed you all so much!
  22. Quinn, why not go for two threads? leave strengthening the sl community in friends and create an off topic thread here called "strengthening the sl community continues - the next step, Hey, how are ya?"
  23. That is the peculiar thing about emoticons. They tend to reproduce at a phenomenal rate and in doing so their rate of mutation accelerates. So as one travels the internet, they happen upon little conclaves of inbred smileys with a limited variety of obscure meanings...:smileywink:
