I'm getting the same sense Peter. Linden Realms, for example, is going the opposite direction from what I want from SL, but Linden Lab gets to make their own choices regardless of what I, or may others, want. I wish them success and thank them for SL. I'll be here as long as there is a world/culture that works for me.
  2. Replying to Monti Messmer who said, "What worries me more is the line about - release this new build features for Linden Realms only to a selected crowd - (not his original words but thats the meaning)." I believe this is the part of Rod's post? "we will be releasing new tools used to develop Linden Realms, which will allow Residents to create even richer original experiences in Second Life. To prevent abuse of these tools, we will introduce a "creators" program in which verified members will be given access to these very powerful capabilities." I'm with you Monti, I had a bad feeling about that too.
  3. Another good conversation starter, Cinn. From the end of the Rodvik's post; “Thank you again for being a customer have a great holiday and a Happy New Year!” If I could respond to his post I'd say, I hear ya loud and clear Rod, I'm a customer. I consider myself a resident in the world of Second Life, that was something I felt strongly about letting you know when you first came. I understand a business has to make a profit and you were called in to help turn things around. I was hoping LL would succeed partly by listening to what users want, but the Forums seem to show a lot of people who feel they haven't been heard. I have to agree with Deltango who posted on this thread, "New policies? This scares me to death. We have had nearly five years of policy failure.” My overall response to CEO Rodvik Humble Shares Highlights From 2011 and his Outlook for 2012 is that LL continues in a direction I don't agree with. Rodvik may be helping the bottom line but at the cost of alienating established users. It's a trade off, they lose established, as well as gain new users with new policy and features.
  4. I certainly agree that the new Search is broken on secondlife.com as well as inworld. When I want to do a search, I use my Phoenix viewer which has the old search and much better results. If anyone wants to be part of the solution concerning search that doesn't work check out the SL jira, there are loads of issues! Just do a search for "search". Here are a couple of links to ones I've started or commented on. https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/WEB-3046 https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/WEB-4061 And wow, I decided to start this thread because I've complained so much here that I also wanted to thank Linden Lab for Second Life. There are a lot of issues that need to be addressed, and plenty that have lingered on for years with no attention, BUT Second Life is an amazing world and for me an incredible creative tool. Just wanted to let the Lab and Rodvik know I appreciate that.
  5. I've mostly complained on the forums and blogs here @ secondlife.com, so I wanted to post a message thanking Linden Lab. I can say I'm not in general happy with the direction you're taking, but I have to congratulate Rodvik Humble for steering LL in directions that made August the biggest growth month for Second Life in nearly four years. Congratulations Rod and Linden Lab, and my sincerest thanks for an amazing creative tool!
  6. 4pm to 7:30pm @ Calmm Air Treehouse in Second Life http://slurl.com/secondlife/Affection%20Island/16/16/42 A concert to raise awareness of the need for BONE MORROW DONERS. The Calmm venues are NOT asking for donations of ANY kind during these events. We simply ask that everyone take advantage of the Kiosks to collect the information on becoming a marrow donor registrant or giving directly to the Marrow registration website - marrow.org We want everyone to see how easy it can be to help those who need bone marrow transplants. This event is held every year all over the United States to try to get people registered. Registration is no longer a painful process, it is a simple swab inside your cheek to collect a few cells. 4:00 PM - 4:30 PM Shannon Oherlihy 4:30 PM - 5:00 PM Billy Thunders 5:00 PM - 5:30 PM ReggieSunset Rookswood 5:30 PM - 6:00 PM Chapman Kane 6:00 PM - 6:30 PM Max Kleene 6:30 PM - 7:00 PM Bluemonk Rau 7:00 PM - 7:30 PM BartAlan Barbasz
  7. Today is the first day of BURN2, SLs Burning Man Event. I'll be playing a mostly Bluesy Set * voice * acoustic guitar * keyboard * Center Stage ~ See ya on the playa... http://slurl.com/secondlife/Burning%20Man-%20Silver%20Seed/54/18/25 (paste that in Chat inworld and click for a TP)
  8. Madeliefste, Great Idea!! A setting that allows you to be truly invisible. This is exactly the kind of thing I was suggesting when I asked where the creative minds are at LL, and why not think of things that would entice people to become premium members while at the same time NOT competing with and taking away business from creator residents, as well as alienating your existing user base. THIS is the kind of idea that would not only attract new users, but make those who are already residents want to become premium members.
  9. Hey Void, Thanks for the feedback, it’s through these conversations that problems are solved. From your comment, "for most groups this has bee fixed (mostly)", I did take that you see this as a mostly fixed problem. Your suggestions for fixes are appreciated, you probably know more about these things than I do, but I don't think applicable to my situation, and the situation of many others it seems to me from still frequent complaints in groups about chat lag. Seems there are a significant number of people who experience the problem to be fixed, and also who still have the same problems with opening chat, posting in chat and chat lag. These problems may also be experienced more by those, like me, who are regularly involved with 15 to 20 large groups, so the problem is magnified, as opposed to maybe someone who occasionally uses Group Chat.
  10. A possibly related problem is lag in opening Group Chat and an inability to open it at all. I find this when I'm IMing in Groups that are for musicians to post shows. These groups are generally very busy during the times I'm trying to IM and I am unable to open Group Chat, or my post doesn't show, in a few of the groups regularly. The problems I experience are in Groups Chat with a lot of users. The Group Chat Lag problem, and associated Group Chat Lag problems may be solved in groups with few users in Group Chat, but seem to be ongoing in large groups.
  11. I wonder, Void, whether you participate in group chat for any large support groups that use chat heavily. If not I would like to suggest you join Phoenix/Firestorm Support Group or New Citizens Group for a few days and participate in chat to experience frequent chat lag for yourself or to see how often it is mentioned by others. I'm not experiencing frequent random disconnects. I'm experiencing Group Chat Lag. There are loads of jiras on it already and LL still seems to think the problem is fixed. As PeeWee mentioned, “ Any group that is offering any sort of support or testing feedback etc which are often the ones with most members & make most use of chat, have the problem as bad as ever. When it is affecting everyone in the chat, its a safe bet that everyone is not on a bad connection.” I’m in full agreement with that. In the support groups where Group Chat is used a lot every day there is constant complaining and/or acknowledgement of chat lag because posts are often coming up out of context or not showing at all.
  12. Concerning the July Update for 2011 and the section on "Group Chat Lag", a quote from the post "we don’t see that dude around much these days". I’d like to know where you’re getting your information, because there is severe lag every time I’m in group chat and that’s pretty much any time I’m logged in. The Group Chats I use are User Groups and New Citizens. Groups that function to help users with problems, and it is very frustrating to have things show up out of context or not show at all. Multiply that times how many users happen to be in the chat and it's difficult to get answers to questions or know who is saying what about what to whom. Come on Linden Labs, work on these things that are broken, have been broken for a long time, that are important to users, and get them fixed before you start bringing on new features like V2 web based search that are severely broken at launch, creating more things that need to be fixed.
  13. Another bad idea from Linden Labs. First it was a free house, now it's free furniture for premium members. And more freebies to come? Wonder how many inworld creators will suffer or be put out of business... I see the free furniture is created by an inworld creator. How did they get that gig? Guess at least these creators will have a chance to stay in business. Where are the creative thinkers at LL? How about coming up with something that will boost premium membership sign-ups without taking away business from residents? This kind of thinking can provide solutions without harming or further alienating a growing number of residents.
  14. Thanks Peewee, guess we're done here ; - ) Thanks for the conversation, I think we rooted out a few things that can help LL work on the problems with Events.
  15. k, Peewee, I just posted my problem to the jira, check it out and please vote for and follow it if you're so inclined. https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/WEB-4061 It's about the very low numbers of results shown on the dashboard on secondlife.com in Upcoming Events and Community Events, compared to the actual number of events going on. Of course we both know, since your experiment posted here, that there is also a discrepancy between results in Search with V1 and V2, V2 showing WAY fewer results. I hope you will post a jira on that. Thanks for the conversation here!
  16. Since the "Upcoming Events" section of secondlife.com wouldn't load for three days I finally went here to continue with my experiment - http://secondlife.com/community/events/ I signed in and next to "Events for August 12, 2011" I selected the "Live Music" Category and selected "Show next 24 hours". (I did this @ Current Pacific Daylight time 2:05 PM. There were a total of 46 Live Music Events listed there. I immediately followed that up with a search inworld with the Phoenix viewer and found 373 Live Music Events Listed. That's 46 Live Music Events listed in Community Events on secondlife.com, and 373 Live Music Events Listed in Search inworld. So my question is still, why the discrepancy? That's a HUGE difference. Since the number listed in Community Events is extremely low, like it is on the dashboard under "Upcoming Events", I'm guessing these two are related, and I'm still wondering why there is such a huge difference between those listings on secondlife.com and what comes up in Search.
  17. The "Upcoming Events" section of my dashboard on secondlife.com hasn't loaded for the past three days. All the other sections like "My Groups", "Friends", "Video Tutorials" load with no problem. I'm trying to do a comparison between Upcoming Events listings on the dashboard and a search in the Events Listings. But the darn thing won't load. Just wondering if it's a larger problem, because I'm assuming since everything else on the site loads, there may be a problem with the Upcoming Events section.
  18. Hi Peewee, To be clear, my search of secondlife.com that came up with 17 live music events, was from the "Upcoming Events" section of my dashboard, as I mention in my first post here, not from the Search field. Please take a look on your dashboard on secondlife.com (if it will load for you). There is a section at the bottom of the page titled "Upcoming Events", that is what my post is about, it is not about V1 or V2 search, though I mention search because of the discrepancies between "Upcoming Events" and search results inworld. My problem is with “Upcoming Events” on the secondlife.com site. There certainly seems to also be a problem with Search in V1 and V2 showing different results, as you’ve pointed out, but that is not what I was/am pointing out. The post you're asking me to look at is about the New Search. My post is about "Upcoming Events" on secondlife.com. Unfortunately the Upcoming Events section of secondlife.com won’t load, so I can't access it to do a comparison today. Before you answer, I'd appreciate it if you do another comparison. Please check the Upcoming Events section on your secondlife.com dashboard for say, Live Music Listings for today, then do a search of Live Music listings in Events on any viewer you choose. Your comparison of V1 and V2 searched both came up with hundreds of events. When I compared Live Music listings from Upcoming Events on secondlife.com with a search of Live Music listings in the Events Search, I found 17 listed on secondlife.com in Upcoming Events and hundreds listed in the Events Listings themselves. (Don’t know if they are maybe working on Upcoming Events since it hasn’t loaded on my dashboard for three days, so maybe when it comes back it will be fixed. All other sections of the dashboard load, no problem) And if you want a jira posted, go for it! Again, thanks for the conversation, there’s always something to be gained from the exchange.
  19. Hey Peewee, We aren’t talking about the same issue, though yours seems as much a problem that needs to be fixed as mine. Why not take your own suggestion and file a jira for the problem you’ve detected? As I understand it, you’re talking about different viewers showing different results in a search of Events. I’m not comparing viewers, I’m comparing secondlife.com with Second Life. Talking about the huge discrepancy between results for “Upcoming Events” listings on my dashboard on secondlife.com, and the actual number of events going on inworld. You said, “for example if you use the latest official LL viewer, you get the same search that is shown on secondlife.com”. I expect so, I just did a search with Firestorm, which is a V2 based viewer, and it just takes me to secondlife.com. I found 17 live music events for today searching secondlife.com. I found 786 live music events for today searching inworld with Phoenix using the old search. Again, the reason for my initial post was that “Upcoming Events” listings on my dashboard on secondlife.com do not show anywhere near the actual upcoming events in Second Life. Thanks for the conversation!
  20. Peewee, thanks for the response, you pointed out another problem with searching event listings. However my post was not about "old and new searches" "showing different numbers of events" within Second Life. My post was about secondlife.com "Upcoming Events" and inworld Events listings showing vastly different numbers of events. You mentioned that "the 20 are "featured events". If that's the case then I think the website should have the heading say "Featured Events", that way it's clear, however the heading on the web site says "Upcoming Events" which leads me to think it's a list of upcoming events, not a few selected events. Which leads me to wonder, if "Upcoming Events" on secondlife.com only lists a few of the many events coming up, who decides what gets listed, and for what reason?
  21. Quite a few people are having this problem, including me. There is also a problem with listing a similar event on the same day. Say you're having a different performer every hour and the only info that is changed is the performer's name. It is seen as a duplicate event and so not allowed to post. I wish LL would fix it. Check here for a post similar to yours, you may have a better chance of getting an answer, or of LL listening to, and fixing, the problem many people are having. https://jira.secondlife.com (put the word events in search at the top of the screen).
  22. I checked "Events Listings" on secondlife.com for "Live Music" listings for this 24 hour period, and there are 21 events listed. When I go inworld in SL to check for "Live Music" in the events listings for today there are over 200 events listed! Quite a discrepancy. Does this mean that the "Upcoming Events" listing on secondlife.com is broken? Or maybe it means only those who paid to advertise are listed on secondlife.com? If that is the case the listing should say "Paid Advertising Upcoming Events". Because as it is now, I would make the assumption that the events listed there on the website under "Upcoming Events" would be ALL the upcoming events listed in the SL Events Listings. Whatever the problem, there are a WHOLE LOT of events listed in the SL Events Listings that are NOT showing up on secondlife.com.
  23. I'm not so sure that if you post in SL Events listings that your event will show in the "Upcoming Events" section on secondlife.com. I just checked that section and there are 21 events listed under "Live Music" for this 24 hour period. When I go inworld in SL to check for "Live Music" in the events listings for today there are over 200 events listed.
  24. Thanks Void, I did an experiment. I had javascript and plugins enabled, but not cookies. I enabled cookies with no change, but reloging allowed the change to take effect, and when I opened search all three Maturity Ratings were enabled. I still have a number of problems with Search. 1. Why would I have to enable cookies to be allowed to check Moderate and Adult listings, when there is no need for cookies to access the General listings? 2. And as far as I know, they still haven't fixed this problem; When you try to list an ongoing event daily it is seen as the same event and you can only post every other day. Also, if you try to list a similer event on the same day, it will be seen as the same event and you will not be allowed to list. This was a huge problem for the Metaverse Music Expo, where lots of shows were not listed in Events because of it. 3. I still don't understand why LL changed the requirements to list in Events. Now, I'm only able to list events on the land where I live and work. I used to be able to list in events for pretty much every live show I played. Just more reasons why this user doesn't like V2. I'm thankful for the Phoenix/Firestorm team, who listen to users and give us what we want, and who make the transition to the V2 model less painful.
  25. Could Search be any more messed up? There are many problems with Search in V2, posted listings that don't show in search, unable to just search Events or anything else without first putting something in the search field (I just want to search Events, not limit my search by having to put something in the search field) Here's the latest problem I've found while using Firestorm beta 2; I am unable to select Moderate and Adult in search, when I click on the ! icon to the right of the Adult selection in Search I get this message; "Authorization token missing Oops! We can only give you General search results right now (Error" Authorization Token Missing". To reset your authorization, please close the Viewer and log back in. Note: Third-party viewers may not support Moderate and Adult searching. For best results, use the current version of the Linden Second Life Viewer." So, why wouldn't third party viewers support Moderate and Adult search? Could it be because it is now required that we have to have something called an "Authorization Token"? "Authorization Token"??? Are you kidding me LL? I'm already authorized to view Adult content in SL, why do I need an "Authroization Code" to access Moderate and Adult in search? Blondin, what's the point of this? How does an "Authorization Code" make Search any better? I figure I won't get an answer to this question. If I do, I'll be curious to hear how spending LL time and money on creating this "Authorization Code" makes our SL experience any better. I already downloaded V2 just to check Search, it's severely broken, delivering less relevant, slower, and not all, results.
