BlackMagi Darkwatch replied to Oskar Linden's topic in Second Life Server
Thanks Ayesha - I figured I must have broken something when I saw green dots appearing on the world map but not showing on the mini map - the region was still not showing to my viewer when I stood on the boundary either before the cache clear... I'll clear the cache first next time :matte-motes-big-grin-wink: -

You are at 282,068.0, 258,382.0, 75.6 in Ratmaw located at sim8663.agni.lindenlab.com (216.82.39.222:12035) Second Life RC LeTigre 12.10.12.265819 Error fetching server release notes URL. The region is showing as off-line (red on map) but I am here! There is a sim next to this one which is showing as online on the world map but is not there. Gingivere - no idea if RC channel. Black [Edited to add - cleared cache and the region appears to be there now, will do that first in future! ) -
And what a party it would be for sure! Black

I have no idea if relevant but the mini-map has been turning red on RC Le Tigre for the past week or so - I thought it was just me and never got around to asking what it meant. This could of course be totally unrelated but I thought worth a mention given the observation from Arwen. Another question about Exclusion Volumes (EV) I created an EV for a building out of prims, positioned, linked – prims used = 6 (LI 3, physics shape Convex Hull). Tested the path using the floater from inside the building to the outside, no problems at all. Tried the same exercise but this time using a single mesh and then hit a bit of a wall. The mesh shown in the linkset window was bracketed as concave and there was no option in the drop down list to turn it into an EV as physics type prim. However, upon changing the physics type to convex hull (as we’ve been told there is no agent interaction with an EV) I was then able to select EV from the drop down list in the linksets floater. Rebaked the navmesh and then tested – there was no way to place the test character within the building and upon inspecting the object it had turned itself phantom. Not sure if this is a bug or expected behaviour but it would be very nice to have the option to create a 1LI EV for people who would like to use pathfinding. What does the concave bit mean? Thank you Black
-
Ok, that sounds reasonable - I will have a look at that tomorrow Thank you Falcon Black

It would appear (to me at least) that suggestion 3 is the only viable option as most of my scripts rely on getting the prim name / description within the linkset - this was done to keep the script count down. So now a question about the exclusion volume (EV). Do they need to be bigger than the original prims in the build or can they be the same size? Do av's interact with the EV in other words making the EV 100% transparent, will av's bump into it or by setting the pathfinding properties to EV will they then become phantom and then there will be no interaction with av's or does this need to be done manually? Why it looks like nobody is buying much.
BlackMagi Darkwatch replied to Josh Susanto's topic in Merchants
Sorry to read you're having issues Josh, have tested and things appear to be plodding along ok - all my items are DD - the thing I think is causing more issues (for me at least) is the amount of HTTP 500 errors whenever using one of web controls, items per page - search term etc. This of course might just be affecting me here in Holland as I've not seen any other comments of this error. Win 7 - Firefox & IE 9 - both with cache cleared and whatnot, that being said though, if it isn't just me then I would imagine a lot of people are having problems buying anything at the moment since the update! Update 11/08/2012 With the latest Beta Viewer from the downloads page, the wording for the button label is "Rebake", much clearer to understand. So, I created a simple character using the new LL pathfinding functions and watched it merrily wander around - I won't be leaving the object out though as my simple 1 prim cube had a LE of 15! Not sure if the LE values are going to tweaked - I do hope so as I feel that is way to costly. Thanks for all your help Innula. Black Oh, now I can see the issue with the wording of the button label! I downloaded "Second Life 3.3.3 (260597) Jun 26 2012 11:18:14 (Project Viewer - Pathfinding)" and not the Beta Viewer from the viewers page - will try that one later on Black

I downloaded the latest project viewer this morning to have a look at path finding so the button label “Clean Region” was the one presented at the bottom of the screen. I actually didn’t notice the button until I moved to another area on our mainland parcel. That is a good point however about people changing linksets into static obstacles – I as a builder prefer not using rez boxes and the like, if using sculpts for instance I will try and make the sculpt fit my build without using scripts. So the “static obstacle” setting might be an issue in the future… The whole building process might be turned upside down thinking about how to make things walkable by NPC’s. So, with baited breath we will wait until the tools are out of Beta and then see what happens but my first tentative steps have yielded positive results in so much as the beginning phase of optimising our parcel – I wonder what the impact will be though and whether other parcel owners in this region will update / optimise their parcels! Update Further to this morning’s post the Navmesh has been updated (according to the floater) and the changes I made on our parcel to individual objects have ‘stuck’ without me pressing anything – this pleases me as I certainly won’t have building rights on other parcels in this region.

Thanks for the reply Innula - the reason I asked about the viewer is that LL have pushed pathfinding out (which therefore must be working more or less as intended) but not given an easy route to optismise parcel / regions which I guess is what LL would like us to do? As for delinking things so they can be walked around - don't think I am going to bother as I prefer the lower land impact afforded by linksets since the introduction of the new prim accounting system. In the future perhaps I'll create specific builds to take advantage of pathfinding but that is a way off for now. There indeed was a button at the bottom of my screen labelled "Clean Region" ... the button label was way to eh?! to risk pressing it (I had visions of things being returned so decided to leave it and will let the sim do whatever it needs to do in due course). Heaing off now to look at the link. Black

That's actually really amusing Anyway, whilst not strictly OT to the OP - here are my questions about pathfinding. Why do we need to use another viewer to update (optmise) our parcel / regions? Why do I now need to unlink buildings (remove the floor prim) to make it walkable? This is especially pertinant as mesh builds can't simply be unlinked. The only option (if I've read correctly) is to add another prim to act as the physics shape?! Or re-upload the mesh... After applying a change to a fence as per the wikki - how long is it supposed to take to update the Navmesh? Thanks Black

Changing one of my prim build in RC Magnum Sandbox did indeed lower the land impact from 20 to 11 by simply changing the physics type to convex hull. What I find a little odd though is I tried the same on Le Tigre (Second Life RC LeTigre 12.07.24.262437) and there was no change to the LI however, I was able to link 2 new prims and change the physics shape to convex and that reduced the LI by one? Not sure if a bug so thought it better to ask first. Thank you Black -
Automated marketing thingies... do they actually work?
BlackMagi Darkwatch replied to Ilyra Chardin's topic in Merchants
We use an opt-in gadget (also waves at Zanara) and like Sassy, we send very infrequently to people who have chosen to receive messages (first one this year went out end of February – next one possibly around June). When I receive notecards from a couple of my favourite stores I will normally pop over and check out the latest offerings and that is then only if I am actually in the market for something. I don’t usually AR as a simple mute will normally suffice for those notecards that turn up out of the blue after hitting a welcome mat or similar, especially if frequently sent and I really do have no interest. -

Marketplace, Mesh & a question - your opinions please
BlackMagi Darkwatch replied to BlackMagi Darkwatch's topic in Merchants
Firstly, thank you all for taking the time to view/reply to this message I really do appreciate your time and ideas. I do apologise for not replying sooner to this post as I thought I would be automatically subscribed to the feed as I created it! I am not going into my reasoning behind not having PIOF as it’s really irrelevant but suffice it to say, “this is not a throw away account." The point I am trying to make is I can buy full perms mesh but can't list it for sale on the marketplace with the relevant 'Partial /100% Mesh', now for those that don’t read product descriptions – short term they end up with a build they cannot use/see and they’re forced to update their viewer (if their computer allows it) or they have wasted however many L$’s the item(s) were. Now, using Firestorm or LL viewer if I try to upload a model it tells me I cannot because obviously I don't have PIOF and that's 100% right (I am not going to be drawn into a conversation about other viewers that try and circumnavigate Lindens rules as the IP test says that meshes illegally uploaded once identified and notified will be removed). Why then does the marketplace deem it necessary to stop me from listing my derivative creation with the correct mesh information when the viewer has already stopped me from uploading 'illegal' meshes? Black -
Scenario Worked with a creator to build a MESH that looks great and have adapted it into a build and went to list it for sale... to be clear - I AM NOT THE CREATOR OF THE MESH but have come to an agreement with the creator to list the item. I can't list the item on the marketplace as partial MESH without completing the IP quiz (done) and having PIOF (not going to do this out of principle). Can I sell the object in world without getting into trouble as it's actuallly one of my buildings? Not going to until I have clarification (wouldn't be right for the purchasers) Is this a bug that people (without PIOF) can have full-perms MESH? Please offer your feedback and if there is a JIRA on this, the link would be appreciated. Black

Question for In-World Shop Renters.
BlackMagi Darkwatch replied to November Velde's topic in Merchants
We rented a parcel once where the policy was no holovendors - after showing the holovendor to the landlord it was approved for use so it might be worth speaking with the landlord. Our builds are not set temp_on_rez so we do have to make sure we've plenty of spare prims! We also use a vendor (web configuratble) with 1 script in the rezzer and 1 in the object being rezzed. I am not receiving instant messages anymore!
BlackMagi Darkwatch replied to Shevonne's topic in Second Life Viewer
You are not alone Shevonne - I did a test purchase a little while ago whilst offline and didn't receive the item purchased. I did however receive the purchase confirmation and the inventory offer to email from the magic box. Also, one of my friends sent me something, nowhere to be seen although once again I got the notifcation. A notecard test went straight to my inventory ... I wonder if there are hidden folders somewhere? Voted and watching Black -
MarketPlace Nov30 Update - The Verdict is?
BlackMagi Darkwatch replied to Toysoldier Thor's topic in Merchants
On the whole it seems to work aside from the things already mentioned of course - did strike me as a little short sighted not having the titles sortable by click A-Z or something similar. On a side note, just had a delivery failed - is it me or does there appear to be some correlation between failed delivery and 'Revenue Distributions' Black -
Help with editing profile picks!!!
BlackMagi Darkwatch replied to Leetah Jefes's topic in Second Life Viewer
I really like the design of the new viewer (no more sliding out window and being able to place the toolbar options where I wanted them) and also had the same problem - so will try the solution provided. Some things should be simple but seem to have been made a little more complicated/hidden? Changing group tag for instance - I went to a newbie center and asked there if anyone knew how to do it - LOL I wonder if anyone has thought about doing a skin for the new viewer for us eh older users? Anybody having trouble submitting classifieds?
BlackMagi Darkwatch replied to MarcelloMastroanni's topic in Merchants
I faced the same dilema when trying to place a classified ad - I just used another viewer to do it. I also have to agree with the previous poster, it should be much easier to place classifieds and also picks - still trying to find that one Black -
