  1. Selective reading:  a talent which populates forums all around the world.  Jadeclaw, why quote if you clearly haven't read the the entire page?  I won't grace you with a defence to your comments regarding my post, my defence is in the page that you selectively read.  There are also answers to your comments throughout this thread, I see no point in going around and around in circles.

File an AR if you feel that suits.  Join in on the JIRA site regarding bugs which affect these vehicles, that is the most appropriate place I would say.  This forum?  Well...it's for hot air, like all forums.  As a friend once said to me:  those who talk about it, usually don't do anything about it.  Those who do something about it, usually don't talk about it, they just get on with it.

Do something constructive!  Myself, AnnMarie and scores of others have done a huge amount of work to have the protected routes fixed, a project that went on for years and benefitted all users of the routes.  AnnMarie was one of the most prolific ticket makers (if not the), thanks to defects found by her vehicles.  Each and every time someone enjoys a long journey along the routes, there are scores of people who deserve a silent thanks for making the routes what they are today, none more so than AnnMarie.  Hundreds and hundreds of tickets were produced by a whole group of people, while people were happily sitting and blowing hot air on forums, contributing nothing constructive...and continue to do so it seems.  None want praise, all want decent routes!

As for the concept of the vehicles....well, they aren't my cup of tea really.  I do know this for a fact though:  there are plenty of disabled SL residents that enjoy automated vehicles, because they have difficulty with sight, motor control, arthritus etc etc and struggle to control most SL vehicles.  The automated vehicles give them a chance to get around without having to ask a friend for help.  For me, it is reasons like this which make me approve of them, all types.

  2. Is this old chestnut still rumbling on?  Hmmm...and we all thought this had been dealt with a couple of years ago, back when residents were able to attend the LDPW open office meeting and these vehicles were discussed at length.  Which ever side you stand on this discussion, LL are well aware of AnnMaries project and have been for a number of years.  They could have pulled the plug a long time ago, but they didn't...because it doesn't violate TOS or the community guidelines.

Yes, there are bugs.  Yes, there will always be bugs.  If people find this difficult to accept, then why do they spend time in a dynamic virtual environment?  I have spoken to AnnMarie on this subject many many times, and her vehicles are far cleverer than most people in this discussion appreciate.  AnnMarie has more experience in the programming field than anyone I have ever met in SL, so I am sure she knows what she is doing.

At the end of the day, SL is a constantly changing thing.  It offers many things to many people, but nothing ever stays the same.  If LL stopped updating the grid today, then the bugs would be fixed after a while and people could find other things to moan about, like maybe yellow giant rabbits, or floating castles, or what ever else they can find that other people enjoy but they don't understand.  Personally, I feel the unrealistic floating structures that litter the skies are an eyesore and a hazard to flying...but I don't kick up a stink because we all have to live together, we all like different things.  I am sure there are plenty of things I have done in the past that others wouldn't understand, just like I don't understand what floats other peoples boats (or castles!).

As for those that keep making claims about TOS and the community guidelines, please take the time to read ths page: https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Automated_Mainland_Vehicle_Guidelines  Naturally, it doesn't state any of the things we have been told in the past unofficially, but I am sure ML would be delighted to clarify any concerns residents have, as he always has done.

Oh...and this page for anyone who feels like doing something positive to help everyone who uses the routes:  https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Route_problem_guide

  3. https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Automated_Mainland_Vehicle_Guidelines

So, this old chestnut is back.  If you enjoy the routes you should send a big thank you to AnnMarie and Yavanna because both actively work to have problems fixed along the routes rather than moan about other peoples content.  Some of you may be new to the routes and oblivious to the diabolical state the routes were in a few years ago.  Along with members of my group, these two have contributed massively towards having defects fixed.  Yavanna is responsible for 2 new routes being converted from dead ends to routes that actually go somewhere!  Most route users don't give a second thought to the defects that have been fixed but maybe it is about time some of you did.  LL do not go around looking for defects you know, there is not and never will be a Surveyor Mole, Michael Linden made that clear a long time ago.

This is a very old debate and I can not be bothered to go through the details again.  Please check out the links someone else posted here and read the previous forum posts about it and also maybe this one at SLU: http://www.sluniverse.com/php/vb/general-sl-discussion/60412-petition-against-annmaries-vehicles.html

In those threads all of the myths are discussed and clarified.  Tanks only shoot at you if you click them etc etc etc blah blah blah ye olde cheste nuto

Why don't people spend more time reporting route defects and help everyone that uses the routes rather than putting energy into pointless whinging about other peoples content?  I personally hate the sight of houses floating unsupported in the sky, but that is just another part of the diversity of SL so I do the mature thing and accept it and move on.  To some, a castle floating in the sky is an amazing sight, we each have different taste.  This is part of being human.  SL is a diverse place, if it pains people that much to see things that are not 100% to their taste then there is always the X in the top right corner...

  4.

A better video this time for the release of some products.  I think maybe some of the clips I used should have been omitted now I have watched it a few more times, but ho-hum, that's how it goes I guess.  I used the free capture program called "Cam Studio", client v1.23, bog standard Windows Movie Maker and a 4 year old laptop, hence the fairly basic graphics settings and low FPS.

  5. OK, I have made some adjustments to the SLwiki page I created and it is now linked into the help section and can be considered "live".  Please read and use the "discussion" page if you have any comments regarding the page.:smileywink:  Remember, it is a wiki page not a forum, so please only comment about the page not about the pros/cons of the concept of such vehicles.

    Automated Mainland Vehicle Guidelines

    I hope it helps!

  6. Sigh...well, I created a wiki page for this matter and spent a lot of time and effort being as objective as I could.  I interpreted the TOS and Community Guidlines to the best of my ability.  I then contacted some Lindens and asked for them to review it and add their input or endorse it in some way...but all that happened is they were standoffish as usual:

"Hey Yevad, Michael Linden let me know about this, too. As wiki co-admin, I appreciate you trying to make sense based on canonical structure. However, this page should be clearly marked that it — including the tips you've highlighted — are unofficial Resident interpretation of Linden policy to avoid confusing fellow Resis. Since discipline for violating Community Standards is handled case-by-case, best practices are helpful but not strictly enforced — therefore we can'tendorse it. For reference, all official LL policy is in the Official Information and Policies Portal." - Torley

So, nothing is gained from the page really.  Now it will only ever look like a subjective page and will serve no purpose other than to add more fuel to the fire and leaving me open to the hate campaigns too.  I only want to bring some peace to the grid regarding this issue and dispell some of the myths, but this looks like it will never happen now.  I am tempted to remove the page all together really, but I will wait and see what AnnMarie and Yavanna say about it.

  7. Just a quick update.  All free map downloads are now online under the new domain.  Old map subdomains @maps.greenlaners.com will continue to work, so if you already have these bookmarked you will not need to make any changes.  If you need the maps in-world as they are, do not waste your money uploading them, they are already available at my Explorers Information Centres, info on my main site.  Details below ;)

    Yevads Map Links:

  8. I have been in discussion with the 2 main people with automated vehicle projects for a long time and we are looking to maybe get official guidelines up on a wiki page for greater clarity and to try and prevent these types of arguments.  Boundaries have been set by Blondin, though there is no official record of this.  Now Blondin has gone, we are not sure who to contact at LL.  The TOS and Community Guidelines are not specific enough really.  A line needs to be drawn, for sure!

The biggest problems I see is the differing view points, miss-information and subjective nature of many of the complaints.  A total ban would mean that the Blake Sea rides would need removing, the Bay City Trolleys too, and we all know there was a lot of support for them to come back.  Unfortunately many of the negative arguments are based on guessing their nature and intentions rather than finding out the truth, which gives little credibility to their cause.  A good example being the hateful blog posts by one resident that claims that AnnMaries are rezzed on a timer, which is entirely incorrect.  AnnMaries have a finite number (with exception to the clone issue, a JIRA entry I keep pointing people to that has received very few votes), AnnMarie only rezzes replacements for deleted vehicles.

I would like to see the haters sit down and have a conversation with a partially sighted resident, or a resident with motor control issues.  I know some people with such problems that appreciate them enormously!  Unfortunately, most of the haters are too blinkered to want to see sides of the issue such as this...

  9. I agree.  Sansara has many many places like that due to the age of its roads.  I begun a deep survey of the Sansara routes once to make a case for those routes to be rebuilt but it proved to be a huge task.  My first installment for my ticket covered only 20 sims and contained 39 pictures of road encroachment with potential for disaster!  I have now put that survey on hold until I have finished surveying all of the other routes.:matte-motes-big-grin-squint:

  10. Hmmm...isn't that from the same person that wants to get protected routes split up and no-object-entry parcels inserted?  No more follower trailers, no more trains with follower carriages and no more helicopters carrying loads along the mainland routes....after many of us have spent many hours finding accidental no-object-entry parcels and getting them corrected to allow residents to enjoy the routes with a multitude of vehicles.  One wanders how many tickets that person has made to get defects fixed, probably less than the number of fingers on my hands.  I imagine such hate filled petitions are the extent of his "contribution" to the routes.

I know we can't expect everyone to join my groups campaign to get the route defects fixed, but such negativity with little positive input only makes a person look selfish, bitter and twisted.  I am glad that the true route lovers outnumber the ones that want to try and control their use....

  11. After a quick brainstorming and consultation with my group members, I have grabbed a new domain.  One which suites the purpose, is brief and doesn't have SL in it so :P to LL lol:

    protected-routes.com

As before, currently it redirects to the old page, but in the coming weeks I shall be overhauling things.  It will remain simple with no silly gimmicks or annoying php that bogs down.  HTML and notepad are all I need!

  12. It was suggested to me elsewhere that I might not be allowed to us the new domain I made, so I contacted Linden Labs and received a reply today:

    Dear Mr. *****,

We are writing in response to the email that you sent to our business email with questions about registering the ******* domain.

We have allowed Residents to use the abbreviation SL in certain ways identified in our posted license at http://secondlife.com/corporate/brand/trademark/sl_insl.php. Under this license it’s OK for you to use “SL” in combination with two generic nouns.

Your use of “SL” with a verb is not allowed. So, you will need to change your domain name. If you would like to forward the ****** domain to your new domain for a period of time that would be acceptable.

Please let us know as soon as possible what your new domain name will be and when these changes will be completed and how long you expect to forward the old domain to the new domain.

We appreciate your cooperation and look forward to hearing from you. If you have any additional questions, please let us know.

    Sincerely,

The Trademark Team at Linden Lab

  13. I have noticed that sometimes there seems to be a random ticket failure state on the support site, regardless of the ticket type.  It seems to randomly get back to normal too.  I would suggest trying again tomorrow and seeing what happens.

  14. I suspect that these are people that have no interest in SL other than to use it as a chat room.  I have seen these littering many places, including the vehicle sandbox.  I imagine that they are just standing around talking in IM or group chat.  They are a complete waste of resource in my opinion and I wish they would go back to spacebook for their social lives and let the rest of us with more imagination enjoy more resources.
