Yeah names aside, forums are kind of bad places to make friends, I think a forum even an SL one, brings out the worst in people. I know it does me.

How come a tire place never has a blowout sale like other stores do? And how come no vacuum company says, "Our vacuums really suck like no other" (Awkward silence ensues)

So I was checking some of the strip clubs, most of the time they are pretty welcoming of anyone who sets foot but I ran into one and the intial greeting was kind of rude. Basically "pay 5K to look around or leave" cause it was for gentlemen only. Well I got into it with their LO and she is there the whole time raving about how much money they made. I think I got banned from there cause I requested eject and ban. Soon after found a nice place with friendly staff and decent guests. Anyways a lot of escorts act like they are getting so rich or brag about their profits and such, yet the reality is there are like 20 escorts/dancers on SL for each client. Sometimes I snag a notecard from these b****es and they charge insane amounts for services, and on the notecards they sound kind of negative like what they will NOT do, the escorts turn-on's. and just a general sense like it is about them instead of the clients they try to serve. Are guys someone turned on by being treated like this? If I was trying to hire an escort and the card was that negative I would tell them to cram it in their butt. Plus I wonder if they are SO busy raking in all this L$, how come they always seem to have time to chat with me as if I was a friend instad of another face in the SL crowd? On an extended note - what is up with people in GENERAL, sl or rl, who feel the need to brag about their money?

L$100K = about $400 RL USD I doubt anyone would bother with trying to persue charges. I mean yes it is aggrivating as heck but RL lawsuits usually formulate out of $1,000's stolen. Thing is, if someone is selling L$ cheap, something is wrong cause short-changing the L$ vs RL $ exchange is silly on the person who gave a "Deal" That would be like offering to take say, 3 quarters for a dollar bill. People are not stupid and won't do this unless they don't mind giving a gift.

When I first started, I dreamed I was in SL but like in some kind of orange and yellow sim. There was this plus-size avatar talking to me about SL, don't remember the chat much but not long after, I made a friend in SL that very closely resembled the avatar in my dream. Nowadays when I dream of SL, it is like the RBG lines in a bunch of objects.You know when you are slipping into sleep but not quite there? Sometimes I dream of my SL friends but meeting them in RL, one specifically that calls herself Sammy. I guess most of my SL dreams look like RL but definately have SL themes of sorts.

ehh ya just gotta strike up chat with people... Most "friends" probably won't last but some will. Best to interact with other noobs. Heck when I started, there was a pack of us noobs that would run around, being confused together. Oh gyod we were a mess hahahah. But then you evolve, and learn things, etc... In fact one of my friends from back in my noobie days I still chat with every so often. but yeah TP'ing into someone's bedroom is not so good. Nothing more aggrivating than trying to have some private time and here comes some bald N000000B asking how to get the money.

But yeah when you buy stuff, of course for whatever reason the vendor feels the need to include some useless scripts, the landmark, a texture, and a damned thank you card. You might get lucky and they will have the instructions on how to resize the thing, like with shoes and the card will start off with a lecture like, "Now you may be wondering why we did it like this". HELL NO I don't CARE why they did it like that.

Theraputic shopping. Low on L$? Not a big problem, there are freebies and things that will not flatten your wallet. Find more ways to decorate your home. Thing is, posting you are bored on this is a mistake cause then guys will be tryinhg to contact you "just to be friends" but then want something more.

Yeah the thing is - you REALLY have to watch this crap with kids or even adults with kid avatars. If you are outside a PG area and someone wants to hang out, don't hesitate to ask about age. Sure they can lie but if they even SAY they are under 18, they be done with it.If they claim to be over 18, well at least you have done the best you can. Here is something about age-lieing. What if that 16 year old is some 50 year old detective looking for predators? Lieing about age works both ways. I suspect this each time I am in an adult region and see a stupid child avatar running around. Do not talk to under-age residents, do not even associate with adults who PLAY as child avatars, nothing good will ever come of it.

Unless you are willing to go into the "adult entertainment" sector of SL, you are better off just using real life money to buy linden money. Thing is this - Yeah you could learn to build, script, etc well enough to make junk and sell it but if you had to pay yourself for all that headache, it would be cheaper to buy the L$. There are a few few camp areas in SL where you park your avatar and collect money, but the pay rate is insanely crappy, like one scraggily linden dollar for each 15 minutes you are parked. Considering $8 USD is worth L$2,000, you can see what a scam that is. Worried about budget? Just try to buy stuff off the market where they have a lot of things that will not break your wallet.

Yeah I don't group chat very much but I have seen it, even in the land-renter group I am in, sometimes I might post and it won't go thru or whatever. But there is a solution - there is a plug-in with the viewers called V i - Viewer Imaginary. The way it works is when you post on a group chat, you just have to IMAGINE how nice it would be if it worked, like what people would respond with. The lag on it is limited only by your imagination.

Yeah what shockwave said. One time I actually had enough L$ to convert to RL cash, not a LOT but enough to pay a minor RL fee for something not SL-related. Of course it went to paypal first, and then it took a few days IIRC to go to my check card.It is best to use a different payment method if you want your L$ in a timely manner, like less than a couple hours (or this used to be the case way back when.) So did the OP ever get his L$?

I age- verified my primary account a long time ago and it worked fine, but trying to verify my alts was not happening, it said it went thru OK but of course I cannot do any adult-related searches or go to adult sims with the alts. So, LL doesn't seem to know that alts are the same damned person? I bet they would know REAL quick if someone used an alt to do something illegal like serious sim-crashing griefing or copy-botting or RL illegal stuff. See this is what I am talking about with the whle identity thing - if it is to a company's benefit to know everything about you, they are on it but if it is to YOUR benefit, they act clueless. I know LL is trying to be careful since they made the wise decision to merge the TG with the main. They have GOT to know the level of adult activity that goes on in SL yet they still did it and are now trying to protect the under-age members from it. Brilliant, LL, just brilliant

Posting this was a mistake... People will smell desparation and see what they can get out of you. Then when they don't get what they hoped for, like selling you stuff, you will get that lovely message that phoenix viewer sends out saying "Joe Avatar has dissolved the friendship".

I have not actually had to buy L$ for some time, but I remember that when I bought them, it went thru pretty quick, it didn't take 24 hours. There is a possibility that paypal is being slow, that site sucks.

Yeah like even right now on the front page of the market site - some happy blonde holding a dog. Plus yeah lately I see these animals in SL, not furry avatars but like these prim animals that have all these stats, and I was asking a friend about them she said you have to buy them food so they stay alive or whatever. So is this like some new money pit or have I just not seen it before?I feel stupid enough caring about my avatar which, like all of them, is a computer graphic when it comes down to to. I don't get it, why would people want to buy some prim whatever that required constant feeding of L$ to be able to use it? I am more used to - buy something ONCE and have it until I give it away or trash it when I get tired of it. Bad enough I let landlords stick it to me with renting virtual land. MAybe I am a sucker too. So what kind of L$ range would one count on spending to keep their prim animals alive? I know it varies but what would be a ballpark etc?

Kascha has a good point I was at my two best friends' house the other day and the husband was saying, "God anything I do it is like my wife has to put it on facebook!" Yeah stuff is out there I guess the best thing to do is not make it easier. In real life I am kind of a loner and I don't hang with the facebook crowd (have cliques come to THIS?) I know a few months back, I had a big change in my life, and had showed a friend a document relfecting this, and she wanted to break out her camera-phone... I took that document back in my pocket REAL quick cause when she was digging for her camera I just instantly imagined it being on FB, and that is NOT where I need it to end up.

It does suck when people just vanish. You cannot really get mad at them cause yeah, you don't know what happened. It would be nice if they could at least say, "I have something going on in RL so I may not be around for a while"

Trying to re-write a childhood story when the RL story is bad, interesting. I think part of it also is with this infestation of kid avatars, it is just the latest clique/fashion and some people become slaves to what is en vogue.

In my 2.5 years in SL I think I have pumped all of $15 into it. I work for the L$ I need to sustain. I think in RL I would hang myself if it came to a point where I was spending much RL money on it. And with buying stuff, just check out the market page, many good and inexpensive things can be had. One of my alts got a whole new wardrobe for like L$20

If it is some new person who doesn't know much then yeah they are gonna look like puke on a pile of crap at first. In good time they improve. I don't judge someone's particular style, but I think after a while, having some kind of decent look put together is important. I know people who NEVER change their appearance and that is kind of like, bleh. With making friends, judging their appearance is not something I do. Now my avatar is well put together herself, but really, I find the avy's who are the most vain tend to be like the most shallow. They are more in love with themselves than anything. With my partner, yeah I like them to look good but I also realise that behind even the most beautiful avatar could be my worst nightmare. yeah, true love in SL. Please. My avatar is a larger lady, if it were a real life human, she would probably be a size 16 or 18. Women tend to tell me I am too fat but the guys love it. Bones are for the dog, but the meat is for the man. I know I often hear "your shape is more realistic and curvy". As long as the gents are happy, all is well. So for my priority on what a friend looks like - as long as they are adult humans I am good.

So it is like a digital Barbie doll... Except our big brothers don't try to destroy them.

Well, I tend to take people at face value. Sure I know plenty of people are full of BS but really, what is the difference? It is highly unlikely I will ever get to meet them in RL so who or what they say is fine. I have yet to have an SL friend that would not tell me about things in their RL that are rough. Here is the thing - if someone had a lot of money, was extremely good looking, and had a fabulous real life, they probably would not be hanging out in a virtual world. I know if I had a good job, money, good looks, lots of RL friends, I would not even know what SL was. If what you are getting at is finding a lover in SL and finding out their RL gender is different, ehh so what? Just ignore the fact that what is on the other end might be your worst nightmare, "attach" to pelvis, and pay no attention to the "man" behind the curtain. I saw a comic about this - Two old men meet and one says - "I thought you were a woman!" and the other goes, "I thought you were 21!" But then they just hug each other....

Or do I need packed away to the looney bin. :D I think I care for that thing more than I care for the RL Erin. When I first got to SL, the person who invited me said something about not insulting someone else's avatar cause people get mad. I laughed and said - "OK I won't insult someone's cartoon" But then I find I care for MINE almost as if it were a person. Do I need carried away in a straight jacket?
