  1. I've sent a suggestion to LL about this issue, but I'm not sure how often they look at those. In case you don't know the new Rhiannon avatar comes with a bento horse. So I was a bit excited and wanted to try it out. Someone at Linden Labs decided she should ride side saddle and not astride. *sigh Now, maybe that would be a cute option to have, but she can only ride side saddle. I tried to add the male's horse AO, but it works only for male avatars. It was once considered "vulgar" for a "proper" lady (Hope you sense the sarcasm...) to ride astride. I like to think we're beyond that now, especially at LL. So please give us the option, at least, of riding astride. Thank you.
  2. Strawberry Singh has a very simple, free photo studio you can get off the market. It might be just the thing you need, if you're not sure how to make your own. You can change the color of the cube, as I recall. https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/StrawberrySinghcom-Simple-Photo-Studio/5745423
  3. Thank you, Ariel. That makes sense. I probably will need to update my head settings once I start wearing a bento head. Thank you
  4. I've noticed some vendors are selling shapes as bento shapes. Is there anything special about them that distinguishes them from other shapes? I'm curious because I made my own shape and I'm wondering if there's something I should do to update it. Thank you
  5. Anyone know where I could get a dress (strictly speaking, I think it's an under dress...) like the one worn by the ghost in the Ring? Here's an image: I've come up with some things on the MP, but nothing that's quite there. Looking for a mesh one, of course. Thanks for any help.
  6. I have another update. FOV is simply the View Angle, it seems. The View Angle is in radians and FOV is in degrees. With rl lenses you only have a View Angle, however it seems necessary to set the FOV, too, in phototools. So maybe the View Angle is really the horizontal FOV and the FOV is, as stated in the debug settings, the vertical FOV.
  7. Thank you for the video. That first part about FoV was informative. I did a little more digging on my own. As it says in the video, the FoV in Phototools refers to the vertical FoV. So that is mislabeled in Phototools, imo. Here's why: You can describe FoV as either a diagonal or a horizontal and vertical measurement. Think of the FoV as a monitor - usually it's described as a diagonal measurement, but you can describe it just as easily as a horizontal and vertical measurement. So this leaves the question of what is the Phototools View Angle? I'm guessing the View Angle is really the horizontal FoV, but I still not sure, since the View Angle can describe the FoV as a whole. So I'm still trying to reason through this a little. You can see a little more about Angle of View in this wikipedia entry. I've also copied the image, below, showing what Angle of View does. The green area is the FoV described by the Angle of View. So my remaining question, is what exactly is the View Angle in Phototools? If I define the Angle of View, do I only need one FoV measurement - the Vertical one - to define my FoV? If it helps, I've figured out Phototool View Angle is referring to CameraAngle in the debug wiki, which says, "Camera field of view angle (Radians)". The Wikipedia entry on Angle of View indicates AoV and FoV are often used interchangably, so I think that's where some of the confusion is coming from.
  8. I'm trying to reconcile the Phototool settings in Firestorm with what I know about digital photography. So here's what I've figured out from pouring into the Second Life debug settings: Phototools View angle (Under DoF) is the same as the debug setting CameraAngle and FOV is the same at the debug setting CameraFieldofView. View angle is measured in radian and FOV is measure in degrees. 1.047 is the default for View angle which equals 60 degrees, the default for FOV. Phototools even tells you you should adjust your FOV to match your View angle. It says "viewer" instead just to confuse you, I think. : ) If you move the slider for View angle, the camera will zoom in and out, increasing and decreasing the field of view. But adjusting the FOV settings in Phototools only brings your image in and out of focus. According to wikipedia, FOV "is that part of the world that is visible through the camera at a particular position and orientation in space." That really seems to be what the View angle is doing. (I get the impression they might have mixed terminology, since people use Angle of view and Field of View interchangably.) So is FOV as defined in Phototools, and probably in the debug settings, too, mislabeled? What exactly is the FS FOV setting doing? Thanks. I know it's a really geeky and probably confusing question. I'll try to clarify anything that might not make sense.
  9. Thank you. I was afraid that might be the case. Guess I'll have to figure out how to pose it, now. *back to searching youtube : )
  10. I made a mesh body a while back. Basically, I exported myself, imported to blender then exported that model. I then reimported the mesh model into SL. I can rez the body and wear it if I want, but I mostly would like to pose it, using it as a flexible mannequin. Is it possible to pose my mesh model in SL? Or do I have to pose it in Blender, then export, again? Thanks.
  11. Hi, Arden. I just came across this. I'm surprised no one else has given you some suggestions. Furrillen is arguably the most photographed location is SL. I believe if you start a flickr photo account you're required to go there an take a photo. j/k http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Love%20of%20Life/141/179/21 There a tons of beaches. Black Basalt beach is nice. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Brandy%20Wine%20Island/216/28/47 A city sim I like is PSY city. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Altha/198/201/37 A good scifi sim is Insilico (the best scifi sim?). http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/INSILICO%20SOUTH/129/97/3718 You can find some nice spots in my feed and on my flickr feed, though I don't always put the loc in my flickr photos: https://my.secondlife.com/myra.wildmist https://www.flickr.com/photos/myrawildmist/ Ziki Questi has a great blog dedicated to new places. She a great person to follow. http://zikiquesti.blogspot.com/ Her partner Kinn runs a blog dedicated to mainland places. http://slmainlandmatters.blogspot.com/ And look in the flickr group Beautiful Places in SL. there should be slurls attached to every photo. https://www.flickr.com/groups/1010879@N25/ Have fun exploring!
  12. Are there any plans to provide more robust photography tools similar to Firestorm's Phototools in the Linden Viewer? What are the plans, if any, for updating the available tools for SL photography and video capture in-world? Thank you, Myra
  13. Thanks, everyone. I'll take a look at all of this, next time I log. @Jackson, are you saying that High Rez doubles the size of the snapshot? So if I have my snapshot settings on 512x512, my photo size would be 1024x1024? I'll experiment with this a little today. I see what Obvious and you are saying, but I'm curious how and if it affects the Custom settings when I take a snapshot manually, the one with the filters and where you can control the snapshot size.
  14. Hi, Robert. That's a mistype, I think. I went to the sim; it's using the Second Life default which would be the day cycle. The WL setting for a sim is under Region Details - Environment. The setting will be grayed out, unless you own the region, but you can still see what's checked.
  15. I was going through my advanced and debugged settings, and came across two settings in Firestorm that might affect my photos. I customize a lot of settings in phototools when I take a photo, I set the DoF, Ambient Occulsion, and set my photo size to custom - 1920x1080. So I'm wondering if I need to worry about these two settings: Should I have High Res Snapshot checked? (Advanced - High-res snapshot.) What is SSAO/Shadow smoothing? (Developer - Rendering - Advanced Lighting Model) Thanks very much for any help.
  16. I really need to switch to a new DJ app; I'm still using Winamp. Yes, I know. I'm bad, but it was working fine until I upgraded to Win 10. Now, it seems to be having issues. So time to stop putting off buying a new app. What are people using, now? I'm looking at Mixx and Virtual DJ, but I haven't made a decision, yet, so I'm open to anything. This would be for DJing in SL, so I would think it would need shoutcast support. Thanks, Myra
  17. Thank you, Josephine. Great advice. I've been following Strawberry on flickr, but wasn't paying attention to the blog. ty
  18. Hi, everyone. I'm just getting started with SL photography. I've been doing it for about a month, now. And I want to get more "serious" about it. I've found flickr. you can see my work here. I'm looking for suggestions on in-world groups I should join, blogs I should read, and anything else that might be helpful getting started and to learn more. Thank you. Myra
  19. FABGlitter Women's Club needs DJs! Our openings are for the 6-8 PM and 8-10 PM SLT shifts. Experience is always a good thing, but we don't mind training you if you're enthusiastic. FABGlitter is a club for women, for any reasonable definition of "women." Lesbian, straight, and transgender avatars are all very welcome. This includes our DJs, too; sorry, no male-identified men. The club is warm and friendly, and especially welcoming to those who might feel on the fringes of life. DJs work for tips and stake their own share of any contests they run. If you're interested, please contact Samantha Poindexter or Myra Wildmist via IM (offline IMs are fine). We hope to welcome you to the FAB family soon.
  20. Thanks, Perrie. You're right, of course. : ) It had been a long day of hair pulling. I read a lot on permission, too, after this, though, and I think I understand better, now. So the only thing about this that is an "issue", is that the stool is still copy/mod, but the permissions as displayed on the item are correct, though a bit misleading to potential buyers. Buyers would still be able to copy/mod it, though, as I discovered. Everything seems to be fine. It's really more a lack of knowledge about how permissions on stuff gets labeled.
  21. I've built this stool with animations and scripts. When I bring it into my inventory the stool is shown as no mod. That's fine, because the scripts and animations inside the script are copy only. I want to sell the stool as copy/mod. Unfortunately, when I add the stool to an inworld sales sign to sell it, the item ends up offered to buyers as no mod/ no trans. There's nothing inside the stool that's even listed as no mod/no trans. I've set the next owner permissions to copy/mod on the stool, except for scripts and animations. Does anyone have an idea where I'm going wrong? I am using AVsitter, but I've taken avadjuster and avhelper out (They can cause permission problems if left in.). Thanks for any help. The stool is ready to sell, if I can get by this permission issue.
  22. I'm getting emergency maintenance, too. :matte-motes-frown:
  23. Someone I was talking to about it said it's a texturing effect available in Blender. I doubt if I'd go that far to do this, but can anyone confirm that?
