the items you have bought are boxed and needs to be unpacked and moved to your inventory before you can wear them. here's how to open boxes, along with some tips on where to rez the boxes if you don't have own land. http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Opening-boxes/ta-p/700185 it's difficult to tell them apart, but some merchants pack their items in simple boxes and others use more fancy stuff, like make a handbag or something that you can wear and it will animate your avatar to make it look like you are holding the shopping bag, and then you click on the bag and it either gives you a folder you need to accept (keep) or it just unpacks in your inventory. if the item doesn't specifically say "wear me" i'd rez it on the ground and then unpack it. add info/comments to your post by using options > edit.

did you edit the hair at some point? (linked parts) sounds to me a few pieces decided to make a break for it but didn't quite succeed it maybe as simple as moving them back into place, but difficult to know without seeing a picture =) add info/comments to your post by using options > edit.
