  1. Point blank (and being polite): If you're judging age using height, you need to take a step back and seriously evaluate yourself.

Scale here n SL is not yet standardized (nor is it likely to ever truly be in many places) - someone who is nearly six feet tall will look small when compared to someone who is eight or nine feet tall or when compared to an environment built around those heights.

I've made my feelings on the way such things are judged where the differing criteria are concerned, quite clear in the past and I am not getting into them further here.

  2. When a software update occurs, you look for any changes is performance/usage and alter your configuration as needed.

There are TPVs that let you set an FPS limit/cap in your settings as well - something I have found I have had to do from several revisions back. I have recently had to dial back the cap however - formerly around 90 FPS as a cap, now closer to 75. This has occurred due to a settings change on my end that increased performance at the cost of running a bit hotter overall while using Second Life.

Furthermore any system side changes can affect your performance.

The only thing Linden Lab (and TPV devs) has/have changed is in regard to overall performance - this is putting aside the PBR changes.

Frankly going by your own words you really should have been using V-sync some time ago (or the options available to you through TPVs to manage your FPS). This should be a basic thing users are taught to do.

Which is it, prudes or puritanicals, who object to things others do, mainly because it is things they secretly do and are personally ashamed of?

(They project their "sin" upon others..)

The argument can be made for either but it is more often the Puritan - being prudish is more a personal choice/personal moral code whereas Puritans get that label after a particular religious sect.

  4. I've found that those who are prudish often have an issue with anyone whatsoever discussing anatomy in any manner as well as with having people properly educated on certain topics. Those who are puritanical are of a similar type and often have much stronger reactions - a prude won't try and use legislation to control others however.

A prude makes waves and scoffs. A puritan tries to make everyone follow their insanely strict notions.

A prude will scoff at and avoid Adult activities. A Puritan will try to make them illegal even within one's own home.

I have few issues with the former. The latter need to grow up ... Or leave the planet.

  5. Hate to break it to you but the Viewer's guess at what graphics settings will work well is just that - a guess.

You like the way it performs? That's nice! Good for you!

Meanwhile the xx50 designation is for the mid-range budget cards - that is the reality. Mind if you're only using it for Second Life, well then use what works for you. Just don't misrepresent the card, m'kay?

Seems like it would be unreasonable to expect an "older" piece of hardware to run "all" of the newest features.  So, anyone running such hardware would need to run at "low settings".

Google says the 1050 was release in 2016.  Getting closer and closer to that 10 year mark.

Even on release the 1050 was not going to net anything beyond "runs somewhat ok"

  7. .... If you're expecting an xx50 card to run SL decently ... stop.

A GTX 980 or 980 TI runs SL well enough but the 50 is not intended for such uses - ever, no matter what anyone tells you.

Further stop with the hyperbole already, you're helping no one at all.

ETA: To aid with clearing up confusion - if your nVidia card ends in 50, you're on a mid end 'budget' card. Can you run SL? Sure. It may even be what some may consider to be 'decent enough' ... You're not gonna get much visual quality nor should you expect any sort of truly decent performance. At all.

Awesome, great to hear, thank you for your speedy replies, that calms me a lot, going with AMD then, that one comes with a very pretty case, and 3 years warranty and pick-up service, too. :)

Heck, when I can get up the money to do so, I plan on upgrading my own rig to the 5800X as well. It'l properly support the actual, stable clock speed of my RAM. Doing that though and getting full use out of it will require that I also update my motherboard (B450 chipset) to a newer one (B550 at least) as well.

  9. Linden Lab doesn't recognize any TPV as 'safe' or not outside of warning users to be wary when using TPVs. The TPV Directory is a list of self certified compliant Viewers and every single one downloaded through it is downloaded from a destination outside of LL's own servers.

Making matters a bit more complicated, those entries are not regularly updated - a Viewer can drop support for a particular OS and still have it listed as supporting it in the TPV Directory.

  10. Also, showcasing what can be done with PBR has its place ... Any thread wherein someone is (rightly or wrongly) complaining about aspects of it/its implementation is not the lace to do so, especially if you're not going to be giving instructions or explanations.

It is one thing to note/state that the OP for a Thread such as this is mistaken (on one or any number of fronts) and a whole other ting to come in, show off what you have done with no explanation beyond "look it up yourself" given for a function/feature whose documentation may or may not yet be complete.

At least one other user has noted that there are bits missing from said documentation.

    That's all fine and such!

You know, all I'm saying is that the new feature announcement blog isn't the place to look for how things are done.
We are still going to answer all your questions to our best knowledge, even if you are treating us as we were all idiots, over the years.

    Speak for yourself.

That level of hostility across years should end up with an end user being on their own and rethinking their actions.

  12. The Ignore feature works a treat for dealing with some of the types mentioned in both my post and the one I originally quoted. If used properly, one might actually think the Forum has rather few ne'er do wells in it.

Alternatively some could be rather oblivious to said types or actually believe them when they're spinning their stories. In either case it does not change the fact that they're here, have been here for some time and really should not be here anymore.

  13. Presence on the Grid Status page is irrelevant - it is nothing more than a "heads up' that an issue is present. It does not mean that the issue is on their end - period.

Congrats - the issue is between your endpoint and theirs. When it is resolved it will be resolved. If the issue is closer to your endpoint then it might resolve faster if you go through the relevant support systems (be it your ISP or some other system).

Your refusal to use what is available will not help solve the issue nor will your stated 'reason' for said refusal help at all, anywhere/anywhen.

There are forum titans?  How is this decided? Number of posts?  Number of likes? The amount of time someone has been active here?  The number of warnings and temp bans some receive?  The number of people who have them blocked?

If you have to announce that you are a hero or villain, you're probably neither.

I am a hero! = I have delusions of grandeur. Won't someone notice me???

I am a villain! = I am trying so hard to be edgy.  Won't someone notice me???

Both kinds of people tend to put out a LOT of bait in the forums just to watch the drama unfold.

Peeve: I'm out of popcorn 🍿

You left out the ones that pretend to just be the average user (or similar) that in reality like to poke and prod for reactions as subtly as possible, those who have always managed to fly under the radar even while seeking their next drama fix ...

They're not even the 'worst' of the lot here that have managed to somehow remain.

  15. Well that was only a matter of time ....

Since no one else seems to have said it quite as bluntly, I'll be the "villain" here - News Flash: Like it or not, not every single "victim" is in fact, a victim. This is a very harsh truth that complicates matters quite a bit.

Others have already chimed in on the absolute BS statement that certain things do not work (globally/as a rule).
