    I am rather blunt in my interactions with most and this can come off badly to some. For the most part I simply brush off complaints but do attempt to soften my tone a bit if need be.

    M'kay ... They won't be taking the forum down. They might take down the thread or they may simply lock it so no one else can respond.

    No one has been arguing - statements were made, corrections were also made to statements.

    Your stated purpose for the thread was "for fun" - not looking to/for help. A purpose that the thread well could still fill if you actually want it to.

    Any negativity one takes away from the thread as a whole ... is wholly on them.

    Meh.

    1. You cannot control who responds - beginning and end
    2. If you do not want any sort of discussion/want to control how things go (among other things) then a personal blog post is your only option outside of running your own forum
    3. No posts were made containing speculations, no one here has responded with hate and the only real 'arguing' is coming from ... you
    4. The moment you started the Thread you lost all say in who replies, how they reply and what they add to the topic/how they steer it/what tangents they go off on
      1. Meaning that if others wish to post concerning other TPVs they can and your own interests on that front are quite irrelevant

    Pedantry time: This (what I am typing and what will be read) is a post/response/reply to a thread in a category contained within a subforum contained within the primary forum as a whole.

    Now then with that out of the way, if you're intending to have fun ... then do so. Want to share fun things? Do so.

    Quit being so uptight.

    Then do not use a TPV that is not on the Directory - simple as that.

    Here's the download page for the official, Linden Lab created Viewer - do note the bottom section that says

    1. This is a Thread, in a Subcategory contained within a larger Category on a Forum - not a 'chat' system
    2. There are no TPV devs that utilize alternative accounts to interact with the user base here - such would do far more harm to their reputations (on top of whatever other problems/harms their responses/attitudes generate)
    3. As a few others have already suggested it really would behoove you to familiarize yourself with the TPV Directory (among other things) before continuing on
      1. It would also behoove you to cease pretending to speak for anyone outside of yourself

    There is no "we" here - you speak only for yourself.

    If you find a user being blunt/straight to the point as being "rude" ... Well that is on you.

    As far as being "negative" goes - simply stating (and restating) the facts/reality on such things is not inherently "negative" nor is it "bashing" on your hobby.

    You like tweaking your settings and hardware to get FPS you cannot really utilize in any meaningful way? Lovely. Present it as such and be ready for users to come along and remind that such a high number does not mean all that much realistically.

    Don't want to deal with it? There are tools here that allow you to hide user responses - use them.

    There is a distinct difference between a business owner and the average Joe/Jane user.

    One does indeed need to worry about their reputation but not nearly as much as one might think - refute falsehoods as they come up without spending too much time on them (a handy way to do so is to have a page or similar at hand, especially if some continue to crop up) while managing their brand/image.

    The other simply does not need to do any of this as a matter of course and is the sort I was referring to.

    Oh yes and no matter what one may choose to believe at the end of the day, an individual will run into such things through their lifetime and contrary to what one may think, how one deals with such is not so different between the two groups (the biggest difference being that the latter of the two is often better served by brushing off those attempting to trash them).

    Afterthought, tangentially related: In the case of some business owners - or larger businesses in general - it can also be much more beneficial to ignore attempted reputation hits, fear mongering and the like or to deal with them quietly as the simple act of refuting such things can lend an air of legitimacy to the claims (potentially damaging in cases wherein the claim truly is not legitimate in any way whatsoever).

    For such, it is a balancing act and care must be taken.

    For any forum wherein you have the option to do so, putting someone on Ignore should also be the end of you giving any care as to what they say or think regarding you.

    They want to spread lies? On them. Someone wants to believe those lies? On them.

    That person changes their ways? Good for them. The person that initially believed those lies, changes their mind? Again, good for them.

    Person never changes? So what. That third person never ends up finding out the truth or changing their mind? Yep - so what.

    If it is not directly affecting your personal life (harassing calls, interfering with your work and such) ... It is inconsequential in the long run/grand scheme.
