  1. Well, been a long while since I posted an image of myself here so ... here we are. Swapped to using the LaraX body and I actually rather like it. Yep, the Honey Snep (Snow Leopard) is pretty much the proper 'me' these days.

Yeah I know there's a little clipping - unavoidable at times with the parts I use.

  2. ... No.

Are you an Adult? If yes, act like one and get over it - VPNs are used worldwide for quite a bit. Don't like that users can access Second Life using one? Tough.

Alternate accounts? Linden Lab has a policy on that already (not often fully enforced but it exists). That it is not strict enough for your liking is ... Well, as I said a moment ago, if it is too lax for you, tough.

    This 'request' is beyond childish.

Ooof, the one thing I hate doing - manual upgrades, lol. RAM and hard drives are usually no biggie, though I'm still not looking forward to it this time around because my current mobo is tiny - micro ATX, ew. I knew that going in, but STILL. The price was too good to ignore. Big sigh.

I actually bought this setup with the full intention of handling all the upgrading myself instead of just trashing it and buying a new PC years from now, but some things are more daunting than others. Not looking forward to future CPU and/or motherboard replacements, ugh...might not even do it honestly LOL. Those things I never actually touch. Drives, RAM, GPU, and now PSU - sure.

I'm lucky enough to live 'close' to a Micro Center so .... When the time comes to do the motherboard and CPU - possibly even the PSU as I don't want to mess with the cables - I'll just take it up there, buy the parts and have them do the installs.

It's the application of the thermal paste and the dread of damaging the CPU pins that prevents me doing it myself.

Yeah, that's smart, actually. I always go back and forth with how to handle NOT using my PC, since I use the dang thing hours and hours and hours per day. Is sleep better, should I hibernate, is it bad to turn it on/off daily, how should I configure the timers, etc. I usually get a good 7-9 years out of my PCs before I need to even worry about big upgrades, so I don't know why I panic so much, but you know - I try to keep things functioning for as long as possible, so I think about these things way too hard!

I settled on just putting it to Sleep most nights and doing full shutdowns when I allow Windows Updates to run, but recently, I did have a few instances where it woke itself up in the middle of the night for no reason (checked the logs - reason unknown), which is really obnoxious in a pitch black room. Christmas tree of a PC, lol. Little did I know, though, that was likely the start of the problem.

I bought this PC in 2020, so I'd expect a minor part failure or glitch by now - definitely NOT the PSU! Normally, I'd do my best to customize, but it was a pre-built Black Friday deal with a fantastic price dropped in the middle of the night (this was back when GPUs were impossible to snag because of Covid and shenanigans and it came with a 3070), sooooo...yeah!

It's a shame the company went with that brand, but perhaps stock was just weird, given the pandemic and the fact that I wound up with a higher-than-stated wattage. But come on, InWin - When your product fails years and years before some basic, budget, no frills, proprietary HP or Dell PSU, that's not the beeeest sign!

Since getting him as a 2019 Christmas present, Horus here has only really had minimal work done as well: Expanded the RAM to 32GB and only recently replaced the internal HDD with a 'proper' 3.5", 7200RPM 2TB unit (used Clonezilla to ensure the data was copied exactly - including the drive identifiers, so a literal clone job).

I'll eventually need to - when I can afford to do so for each component - replace the GPU (running a 980 TI), then the CPU (Ryzen 7 2700X) and motherboard (ASUS ROG Strix B450-F Gaming) and finally the OS SSD (500GB Samsung 860 EVO).

I didn't even know the thing had lights - that's how many lights are in this stupid rig, LOL. Also, all of my order documentation claims I have a 650W Gold Plus. I opened the thing up for the first time yesterday - it's a 750W PB (Premium Basic, I love that) - fully modular. Oh, thanks for the upgrade, I guess, lmao.

But yes, despite using decent brands for everything else, they cheaped it out and went with an InWin 750W - and not only does it have RGB lighting and two switches for such nonsense to sync with the motherboard, but it's got its own independent hibernation mode to shut things off when usage falls below 20%. Well, how much you wanna bet that's what went belly up?

The exact issue I've been having - putting my PC into sleep mode at night and in the morning, it refuses to wake up. Refuses SO HARD that even after unplugging and toggling the PSU switch and replugging and pressing the power button, it would NOT wake itself. So hard that when it did finally bounce back from that state hours later (the first time it happened) when I tried the power button again for yolos, it went straight back to the desktop and didn't even do a reboot. We're talking Yogi Bear-style hibernation here, lol. That thing was knocked OUT.

A few times after that, waking it up could only happen with the power button (mouse or keyboard would normally do the trick, and no settings were changed), and then finally yesterday, it gave up entirely. Nothing I did would get a response. Looking around online, most seem to agree that's a failed PSU. The RGB keyboard lights up when I plug that in but NOTHING else happens, so it's likely just out of juice. I did some digging on Amazon and elsewhere and saw others complaining their InWins died within a year, so I guess I'm lucky it worked THIS long, lmao. I'll replace it with a Corsair 750W, I suppose.

And yeah, you're right - not much to plug in and worry about it seems. I just hate messing with cable management. Everything's so nice and tidy in there right now! They really did a great job with the build. Shame they picked such a weird PSU. PeeEEEEveee.

Honestly I've never really bothered with Hibernate or Suspend on any computer, even back when I used Windows.

PC stays on with a screensaver running after a time (with a password lock) and the whole thing gets a full power cycle once every one to two weeks unless an update comes in that requires a power cycle (a restart if going by the package manager but I just do a power cycle to be safe) - this only happens for major updates/kernel upgrades.

But yeah, sounds like they really cheaped out on your PSU.

The only RGB components in my own setup are on the fans, small segments of the motherboard itself and my little 'gamer' keypad on the desk. That's all my 'little' Horus needs (yes, I named my tower).

  6. And I would present you with an argument on the matter ... Why?

It is reality. Period. Beginning and end. It's not a discussion or 'argument'.

If you believe you can tie two Second Life accounts together based off of an IP Address then you are believing in pure fantasy. That is all there is to it.

You can infer such a link. You cannot prove it.

Have a good evening, morning, afternoon and such. Go find someone else to scratch that argument itch with.

  7. Ah yes, because not entertaining certain things somehow equates to not accepting other people or their ideas or to assuming one's own viewpoint is the Gospel Truth ...

    Get a grip.

I'll debate and argue with people who are actually present for such.

Those have been few and far between. Enough so that I do not bother most of the time anymore. Not to mention that some of these troll topics (and that is exactly what that one is - period) have been rehashed in varied ways so many times over the years that everything there is to say - for me anyway - has already been said.

I'm not interested in feeding them.

  8. I'll preface this by saying that despite my contributions the last few days I have avoided doing much more than 'reacting' to things here as I have been fighting off the flu and thus on an even shorter trigger as far as my tolerance for BS goes.

That out of the way ...

There are members of this forum who can be predictably counted on for varied things: Their viewpoints, being helpful and such. There are also those here that one can reliably predict in a more negative fashion and a rather recent thread - one which is a joke, no matter what the OP claims - showcases this quite well.

Said OP should have stuck to Reddit where they can carefully curate an echo chamber of empty headed agreement for their harebrained ideas while pretending to have the best interests of Second Life users (or anyone really) at heart. It is what they are good at and this has been shown time and time again.

We also got to see the forum 'champion' show their true colors once more - even while they try to present their statements and actions in a positive light.

And somehow there are people here who will give them the attention they crave.

Therein lies part of my peeve: These are people with track records and whose true colors do not take long to show to someone they have not interacted with before. Why does anyone take either seriously?

Brush them off, laugh them away and get on with your days.

The other part of the peeve? Well lets just say it is getting quite irritating to see staff pretending that one must be nice to such types.

If you want nice, don't run a forum. Run a drum circle and sing Kumbaya.

  9. That's nice.

It also does not change reality.

Derendering is not considered by Linden Lab to be a basic function. Want to change that? File a feature request and see where it goes.

LOD 6? Well there's one problem right there ...

You need to use a bare bones, basic Viewer for side work? Really?

As for the rest ... yes that is indeed a "personal issue".

Now then if you want an argument of some sort - seek one out with someone else - preferably someone who actually wants to waste their time over this.

In the meantime, the real world will just keep on going.

    • Thanks 1
  10. Point blank for you: Anything outside of the most absolute basic functions needed to use Second Life is the purview of TPVs.

So no, over time the meaning of 'basic' has not changed. You do not require derendering to use Second Life - it is a nice little addition.

Don't want a basic feature set, use a TPV. That is why they exist.

    1. An eyesore, yes. Reportable as actual abuse? ... No, not without proving it is being done deliberately to get a rise out of you, to harass you or some other ToS Violation
    2. Viewer - not browser. You're using a 'browser' to view this web page (and still are if using the one built into the viewer or a Media On A Prim type)
    3. The Official Linden Lab Viewer is intended to be a basic, functional Viewer with no added bells and whistles. You want to derender something? Use a TPV.

Peeve: I am now a "Zevia" brand soda drinker! (Sweetened with Stevia.)  Prior to that, I had not drank soda for years, really.

They have some really nice flavors too! The Creamy Root Beer is one of my personal favorites alongside their Cream Soda!

They've come a long way since their introduction - some of the flavors i did not care for at all have improved.

The peeve for this? They're expensive compared to the normal brands.

  12. Type 2 Diabetic here and while I haven't had to make too many dietary changes, I have substituted some Stevia in for sugar in my coffee and tend to err to drinks and such that contain Stevia. On the off chance I do grab an energy drink it is always sugar free and I have only thus far found one brand I cannot drink (it causes my whole body to become mildly itchy after fifteen minutes of consuming it): C4.

  13. How to use a system avatar:

    1. Wear a skin
    2. Wear a hair base
      1. Use a bald one if using a mesh hair
    3. Choose/edit a Shape
    4. Choose your clothing layers (if desired)
      1. If wearing mesh, choose the right alphas
      2. Choose outfit pieces

How to use a Mesh Avatar (once acquired/you choose one):

    1. Wear a skin
    2. Wear bald hair base
    3. Choose/edit a Shape
    4. Choose your clothes

    Optionally use tattoos.

Everything else is done through a HUD and the majority of it does not need to be touched once set - this is the same for any item that uses a HUD, be it for a Mesh Body, a piece of clothing or what have you.

But then again, that is my own experience as I find no reason to do much more once I have a form set up other than choosing what to wear.

  14. Again, enough of the excuses.

Ever since Windows XP (or perhaps slightly later) important system folders have been hidden away from the users. It is nothing new nor does it take much to learn how to get around or deal with.

My present phone is still 'stock' - no rooting or such - and I can still access the majority of the file system using the file manager it came with. Directories outside of this selection/purview can be accessed via ADB/PC if need be and newsflash for you, the majority of users won't have a need to do so. An App developer might however.

The most locked down device I own is a Quest 2 HMD. You have to go through hoops to enable Developer Mode on it if you want to 'sideload' any applications or do anything beyond what basic functions Meta allows (there's a culprit for you - walled gardens/locked down devices). iPhones are even worse as far as this goes.

    So yep - find a different excuse/scapegoat.

  15. Seriously? People are wondering how the heck a pre-teen or teen can get away with using their parent's credit cards in this day and age?

It's simple: The parents do not ask many questions. In some cases the pre-teen/teen in question will ask if they can use the card for a game subscription/transaction and the parents will allow it without any real questions or research.

They'll see a transaction registered to Tillia and shrug, remembering that they authorized it earlier and not bother to dig into it.

Welcome to the modern age - it has little to do with their personal finances unless said situation involves a fixed and incredibly limited income.

Oh yes and when I was younger? I knew several in my age bracket whose parents were even more laid back! Some of those people later grew up to either be entitled, spoiled arses or they grew out of it and learned from their parent's mistakes.

  16. Oh for  ... What kind of absolute BS was that?

Android applications utilize a preset directory wherein a downloaded item is sent to, with a fair few applications actually double checking this or requiring you set it yourself. The directory structure is also  labeled in such a manner as to make finding items none too difficult with the exceptions being the installed apps themselves/their APKs or system level files.

Modern PC applications can do the same thing, if set up that way and only pop up the dialog as a confirmation in such cases.

Still not that difficult to learn how to use the directory system from that starting point - it has not been done away with entirely and the situation is being misrepresented here (has been for quite a while too) - enough.

Find a different, more truthful argument.

Oh and while it is fresh in my mind. .. Millenials did not cause it, many of us grew up with Windows PCs and/or even the Apple IIe. Many of us are in our 40's at this point. Out of here with that BS too.
