Hello Royce, try ZenWarrior's great suggestions ; also see Reducing lag, Turn off WindLight rendering and How do I check for packet loss (network lag)? And here's How do I turn off particles?
- Make sure your computer meets all of the Minimum System Requirements. It's best to exceed them in order to prevent bottlenecks, since the minimum system requirements are the minimum hardware required to run Second Life at all. A slower processor, older video card, or low memory can contribute to low framerates.
- Make sure you have the latest drivers for your video card.
- Take a look at the graphics settings in the Preferences window if you haven't already. Try moving the Quality and Performance slider to Low.
- Check to see if your hard drive light is showing a lot of activity. If it is, then your system may be running low on memory and using hard drive swap space instead, which is significantly slower.
- Make sure your Internet connection meets Second Life's minimum system requirements.
- If you're using wireless networking, you should try troubleshooting with a direct wired connection; we allow, but do not support the use of wirless network connections. I'm having problems while on wireless networks
- You might need to turn your bandwidth settings down in the Preferences window if your computer is receiving more network data than it can handle.
- Try teleporting to a quieter area, or one with fewer objects, to see if the situation improves.
- You might also read our Statistics Guide to verify that the problem is low frame rate (Basic FPS in the Statistics window).
Hope this helps.

Before you log in, Clear the Cache from Outside Second Life You can check the Disk Cache location from the login screen Edit > Preferences > Network. Log into Region Pooley or Aqua, see Changing your login location and let your Inventory fully load.

Lone, if you use the same computer, the same router/connection, the same Viewer with identical settings, in exactly the same place on the Grid and one Avatar (account) lags and another Avatar doesn't, then
It's either something the Avatar is wearing, attachment or HUD, or the Avatar Inventory Cache.
Right click on your Avatar and select Detach All or
From the viewer menu, select Edit > Detach Object and select all the objects from the drop-down list.
Open your Inventory window then type (worn in the search bar. Locate the objects, right click and select detach.
Access and wear a default avatar.
Step 1: Display Advanced menu
The Advanced menu contains useful but entirely optional settings for Second Life Residents. See this article for details on how to make the Advanced menu appear.
Step 2: Choose Test Male or Test Female
- Go to Advanced > Character > Character Tests.
- Choose either Test Male or Test Female.
Clear the Cache from Outside Second Life You can check the Disk Cache location from the login screen Edit > Preferences > Network.
Note: settings change per Avatar, to do a true comparison,
Completely uninstall all Viewers, saving any chat logs, if you wish. How do I fully uninstall and reinstall Second Life? Please make sure all the Cache (different Viewers have different Cache locations), User Settings and content of any Temporary folders are also deleted.
Shut down your computer. Unplug your router for one minute and then plug it back in.
Then download the latest Viewer Second Life Version Number: 1.23.5 (136262) Oct 14 2009 12:08:26 (Second Life Release) from here Second Life® Installer, save the programme to your Desktop and install.
Hope this helps

Hello Perseus, from SL Wiki KB Limits Land
- Max. "NO ENTRY" ban line height - 768 m above the terrain mesh.
- This is if you're explicitly banned from a parcel. If theparcel is simply not public access or restricted to certain Residentsor a group, then the access lines go up to 50 m above the terrain mesh.
Hope this helps

Hello Alessia, try the suggestions in this article in SL Wiki KB I can't get into the land
I can access the Region Isla Victoria, so maybe contact the Owner for some more details.
-
Great replies you might also like to look at the Video Parcel access controls
I'd also check the Region/Estate Window - Estate tab
Allowed Residents list: If Public Access is not checked, this list specifies which people are permitted to see and enter the Estate. If Public Access is checked, this list is used to specify Residents who have permission to post events on your Estate.
Allowed Groups list: Members of the specific groups listed have access to the Estate.
Banned Residents list: Residents added to this list are not able to access your Estate.
Allow Public Access: When checked, this setting allows access to the Estate without being specifically on the Allowed Residents list.
Restrict Access To: Allows you to restrict access based on two parameters:
- Residents with payment info on file: Ifthis box is checked, only Residents who have payment information onfile with Linden Lab are allowed access to Regions in your Estate.
-
Age-verified adults:If this box is checked, the only Residents who can get into Regions inyour Estate are adults who have been age-verified by Linden Lab. Formore information about age verification, see How to become verified as an adult.
Allow Direct Teleport: Allows people to teleportdirectly to the Estate by clicking on it on the map. If you set alanding point on the parcel, that determines where exactly they end up.You can also disable this (the default behaviour) and use thetraditional telehub method.
And About Land window - Options & Access tabs
Create Landmarks- Checking this lets others create a landmark, which serves as abookmark to the land. Usually best left on -- if you want privacy, see Access controls below.
Landing Point - Set a landing point where people will arrive if visiting your land. Click Setto place the landing point where you're standing. This is where peoplewill be directed to if they teleport to your land, including fromSearch. For example, if you're building a space station, you can setthe landing point high in the sky so people don't get lost on theground looking for it.
Teleport Routing - Use this dropdown menu to select one of the following options:
- Blocked - Prevents Residents from teleporting to your parcel.
- Landing Point - Forces all Residents to land at your specified landing point.
- Anywhere - Allows Residents to teleport to anywhere in your parcel.
Each has its uses depending on your intent. For example, if you'rebuilding a game with secret areas and divided into multiple parcels, you can choose Blocked for some parcels so people don't accidentally spoil surprises, but choose Landing Point for the entrance parcel so everyone can see the instructions sign you've posted.
For Group only Access, see Group Information: Members & Roles : Abilities : Parcel Powers
Allow always 'Create Landmark' and Allow 'Set home to here' on group land

.. It will not launch the Emerald viewer, or any other third party viewer
Hello Bongo, if you are using Firefox to browse the XStreet website, have you tried going to Tools-> Options, and select the Applications tab, see Options window - Applications panel Find Second Life under Content Type and change the Action to Always Ask or Use Other.
Or does this workaround work ?
Using Second Life URLs (SLurls)
Details
On Windows, a SLurl opens the most recently installed Viewer.
There isn't an immediate way to change which Viewer launches SLurls, so if you have the current released Viewer and a Release Candidate, whichever was installed most recently will start. You can change this by reinstalling the Viewer.

Hello Cynthia, if the camera control does not appear when you select it from the View Menu, see if it's disappeared off screen, by trying the suggestions in the Second Life Wiki KB article locate an off-screen HUD - Video Tutorial
If you want to reset to default settings, without uninstalling/reinstalling Second Life, you can log out of the Viewer and
.. moving all of your existing settings files to a different, temporary directory. Next time Second Life starts, it will create a new, default set of settings files. Your settings files can be found in the following location:
* On Windows: C:\Documents and
Settings\\Application Data\SecondLife\user_settings* On Mac OSX: /Users//Library/Application Support/SecondLife/user_settings
Hope this helps
-
..but that now begs the question as to how I restart the sim.
Support will be able to help you with that
-
If all the parcels are in the same Region, I would try a Region restart to see if that unifies the pool of prims.
If that doesn't work, I suggest you submit a Ticket with Support at https://support.secondlife.com/ for Region-specific help

-
Hello Jilla, does this article How can I get more prims on my land? or Video Tutorial Region & parcel prim limits answer your Question ?
Simulator primitive usage
If you own more than one parcel in a Region, the prim allowance ofthose parcels becomes a unified pool. For instance: If you own oneparcel that supports 117 prims, and another parcel in the same Regionthat supports 33 prims, you have a total allowance of 150 prims on yourland in that Region. If you wanted to, you could place all 150 prims onthe parcel that initially only supported 33!
Note:This technique only works within a single Region; if you own parcels inmore than one Region, you will not be able to share prim resourcesbetween them. - 1

Hello Augustus, as well as Irene's great suggestion, try closing the Viewer immediately after changing Preferences and click Apply and OK. Then relog back into Second Life.
If you still can't save Preferences, you might have a corrupted file. Try completely uninstalling all Second Life Viewers, saving any chat logs, if you wish. How do I fully uninstall and reinstall Second Life?
Please make sure the Second Life Cache, User Settings and content of any Temporary folders are also deleted. Reboot your computer.

Hello Brock, 'repeating text' can be caused by packet loss. To check your network connection see How do I check for packet loss (network lag)?
What is packet loss? Packets of data travel across computer networks, including the Internet, home or any corporate network. If one or more of these packets fails to reach its destination, packet loss occurs. These lost or dropped packets can result in performance issues.
If your network transport protocol provides for packet recovery, a transmitted packet that is lost will be re-sent. However, it will be re-sent along with every other packet of data that had been sent after it. This causes the overall throughput of the connection to drop.
Typical causes of packet loss.
High packet loss results in "lag". Connection difficulties can lie in any of the following sources:
- Your home network
- Use of a wireless network
- Your ISP
- A third-party Internet connection between your ISP and our host.
- Occasionally with our provider's network.
Potential solutions
There are a few things you can try in order to identify and mitigate causes of packet loss.

Hello Trix, a pJIRA issue has been created Script performance dropped on some regions since rolling restart (12 nov 2009)
Details about specific Regions and changes in script performance, and your vote, will give useful information to the Developers.
As Q Linden says on his recent Blog post Taking technical feedback from Residents
How the bug report is handled
After submitting an issue, you might want to point it out to some friends. People can vote for issues they care about. Linden Lab uses vote count to help point out the issues we should pay the most attention to. Vote count is not the only measure, of course, but all things being equal, an issue with more votes will get attention sooner.
pJIRA is a tool for residents to file new feature requests as well as bug reports (The "P" stands for Public.) An overview and common questions about pJIRA can be found in the Creating bug reports and feature requests in the Public Issue Tracker
How do I log in to the Tracker?
- Visit https://jira.secondlife.com and click the 'Log In' link on the top right of the page
- On the login page, enter your Second Life username (Firstname Lastname) and password

Hello Kainashi, which Viewer are you using ? As of Server v1.27 only 1.22 and above viewers can upload scripts. Is this a Region-specific problem, have you tried uploading scripts in other Regions ?

Moving away from server Class
Posted by Jack Linden on 10-Nov-2009 18:10:54What would we do instead?
We intend to move to a simplestandard specification that would become our baseline for all regions.Everyone owning or buying Land could be sure of being on at leastthat specification of Server, but no longer pinned to it. If higherspecification hardware is available, we could use that to improve youruser experience but no-one would ever be on less than the standardlevel.
Why do this now?
Now is the perfect time to makethis change because soon the entire Grid will be on at least class 5hardware. The grid is currently made up of Class 5 regions with a smallnumber of class 4s (2000 regions). As part of moving away from Classesof hardware, over the next few months we would move those class 4regions to class 5 hardware. Class 5 would therefore become ourstandard baseline.
Can a couple use a single account with two avatars?
in Account
Posted
Hello Lovee, if these different avatars have different names then they also have different Accounts, although they could use the same computer, see Linden Lab Official:Alt Account FAQ
Alternate accounts... multiple identities... We all have them in
some way or another. Perhaps in real life you're an entrepreneur in the
morning, soccer mom in the afternoon, and vegetarian chef in the
evening. In Second Life, you get to externalize these roles in
customized, uniquely identifiable personas — otherwise known as alt
accounts. How cool is that?
There are great reasons for having more than one account in Second Life, and we like to facilitate these uses.
How many alts may I have?
Currently, you can create as many additional Basic or Premium accounts as you want to pay for, with the following limitations:
We do require that alt accounts adhere to all of our policies. For example, by agreeing to our Terms of Service
(TOS) you agree to provide truthful and accurate information about
yourself when you register for accounts — that includes not only your
contact information and real name but also whether this is your first
free Basic account or a new alt (see TOS section 2.1). People who do
not provide truthful information risk losing their accounts.
NOTE: Linden Lab Official:Sharing Second Life Accounts
Your password and its confidentiality are what protects your whole account, as well as your inworld content and all of the personal and billing information in the Your account section at the website. Use common sense when creating a password. Do not choose a password based on personal information that could easily be guessed by others, and never save your password on a computer that is shared with others.
Per our Terms of Service:
