  1. I honestly don't know why they don't just include 'Modeling Agency' advertisements into the Role Play forum :smileyvery-happy:

I have had to explain to many persons asking me how they can get started in Modeling in SL and what they need to do. I have been approached on occasion to have my products (prim based avatars w/without skins) modeled, and I have to explain every time that it is alot easier for me the creator to use an alt whereas I have direct control over the exact pose, timing, and enviorment I want to shoot my model in, and yes it's ALOT less costly in the end. I also try to make alot of my own props too within my limitation of skill, and that saves me a bit more L$. Ofcourse you realize this is coming from a store owner and creators point of view.

I think there is a market  out there for models to present at 'Showcase' events as well. There are many agencies and stores that have applications you can fill out. I also advise people to actually get to know the creator(s) of a product you might be particually interested in too(they are people too). Just volunteering your interest in their idea or dream can be enough to get your foot in the door , especially if you hold a similar interest, say in the style or era of fashion or medium of photography.

You said you have 'your own clothing' I assume you mean clothing you made? If so, why not have your own showcase? The next step would be deciding who you want to get involved with the project, sponsors, friends, associates,  and directing the event yourself .

If they are clothing you purchased, you might consider contacting the creators and asking them if they need any promo models. Offer pics of you in their creations to peak their interest too. They also have photo contests at some stores for their products, usually in a theme.

  2. Layers, Layers, oh...Did I mention Layers. A steady hand, a keen eye, lots of coffee, and last but not least....

A good pair of trust Hair Clippers ( well after all, with you pulling out of hair during your new creation adventures, it's best just to save yourself the trouble and go bald ahead of time) and once your practice grows, your hair will grow back with it :matte-motes-big-grin-wink:

P.S. Don't forget a good strong dose of your own opinion and selfconfidence too, you'll be creating in no time

  3. Hi Nicoia

You stated you are  using V3 currently ( which I presumed since you posted in this forum :) ) here is a link to another thread that is about adjusting water settings, but infact you can use the same steps for your sky and overall settings as well.

    http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Art-Music-and-Photography/Make-a-custom-water-setting/td-p/1439657

Also note that in Viewer 3, if I recall you can't actually 'save' your changes per sessions and infact that is covered as well in the above link thread.

  4. Maybe, because not everyone wants SL to look like or be presented from only one point of  view. We are not 'One Opinion', we are Many.

When I joined SL, there were many tips on how to improve things, and many helpful souls. In the end though, it came down to ME simply getting out and doing it and finding out for myself. You can't break SL. Sure things might not be what you expected in the end result, but that's the learning process too. There is no 'one way' or  'simple answer'.

Even when SL becomes stagnet and dull, the human mind is generally always changing, evolving, and discovering.

Have you thought of applying for a position at Linden Lab? They do have openings and that would be a great way to get ideas through and in practice and testing as well.

  5. I have no idea what parameters Exodus viewer runs on. Infact its irrelevant really whereas this issue is in regards to Viewer 3 which THIS forum covers.

I have been up and down and til Tuesday with support covering all bases from Force-quit, to Firewall settings, to hardware inspection and the like, and nothing has resolved this issue with Viewer 3. I was hoping the most recent release would have corrected the issue but apparently not, and I don't honestly know if it's a conflict with the viewer or Vivox ( oddly enough, Vivox is not listed on Firewall settings or it is covered under the SLPlugin.exe)

I am however tempted to invest in a soundcard ( mine is currently onboard and not seperate) and see if that makes a difference but I doubt it since I only have the problem with Viewer 3.

  6. I've been having the same exact issue with this release as well as the one just prior. Voice is however working as it should in every other viewer(s) which aren't supported by LL. Have filed a ticket on the issue to no resolve...

  7. I have to say that after exploring The Wilderness sim(s) I was really suprised at the amount of work that actually went into it. It fits alot of things that many people currently enjoy casually. Exploring, Fishing, Animals, Photography, Boatrides, Goat rides.

The Temple Ruins are my favorite area atm, and I found a pet Jaguar to play Fetch with and won a beautiful hat for the prize:smileylol:

  8. I wish they would also open up the 'Premium Sandboxes' so that we can bring non-premium members to atleast visit , not be able to build, rez or  script, but would be nice to atleast be able to have my friends come see what I'm working on sometimes. It would be an easy flag too imo.

It's lonely at  the top :matte-motes-not-entertained:

  9. The alpha Layer ( generally for shoes) is getting corrupted from what I've found. and I have a hunch that they might even be conflicting with the newer Tattoo add abilities.

I had to switch out 3 different shoe alpha layers and remove any hair tattoo layers to resolve this, besides clearing cache manually ( which i prefer to do).

  10. Ya know, I think alot of nasty habits have been aquired over  the years ( gawd knows why:smileyfrustrated: ). Avatars bases are not set to full bright so WHY are people setting attachments to fullbright?

I have friends who do photos using inworld studios ( the Bells n Whistle packages) and I have to ask them why. I dont even take pictures with ANY light source whereas the final post processing is going to be using lighting effects and burn dodge, to name a few of the photoshop options, and the added light source in the original scene is overkill!

I wish Torley would be so kind as to make a huge Pink and Green Sticky banner in the Building and Texturing forums explaining to newer persons why they might want to turn off light sources in alot of builds.

The other Problem I run into when shopping are Vendor pictures will not be set to 'Full Bright' , and even with Mid Day light set it's hard to make out what some of the vendor images are, yet you will see if you look closely in the image jewelry set to Full Bright :matte-motes-shocked:

For those wondering how to go about scripting such a feature there is information in the LSL scripting portal http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/LSL_Portal It should be covered under SetLink options.

  11. The lips. What is up with guys and 'Lips'? It's ok to make them a little more prevelant and not such a coordinate line.

The skin itself is fine imo and doesn't reflect any ethnicity really. If it looks faded, that's simply a viewer graphics setting issue when the picture was  taken and mabey minus a VERY subtle face light ( and the light point in the scene). I'd say this could be any skin and is a quality skin all the same. It just  needs a bit more contrast in lighting if you're  trying to make it pop in any photos, but most skins will do this depending on your  graphics preferences too.

Also, alot of faces come out looking exactly the same or what came out of the box, play with the eyebrows too to give them a little character, nothing dramatic, but only slight.

I think the hip proportions are fine and I see (atleast on my end) that you've played with the love handles slider a bit so that  there is a more natural divide above the hips and below the ribcage.

Overall your look is pleasing to the eye and not drastic or cartoonish either but could use a little more 'Animated'  ( not the AOs either) punch to it

  12. Botham, do you understand what freebies are really even there for? Alot of those 'Old' freebies are still there for a reason, and the same reason new freebies are out there.

Freebies are meant as a mainstay on style, but a generally used as a tool to give you ideas on how you might make some of those items yourself. You have to understand that long ago, SL was made up of many people in SL who primarily came into SL to design and learn from that.

My wings are from the 2004 era and even back then I wouldn't claim they were 'The Best', but they were 'Of My Making' and I was (and still am) very proud of them. I offered them free for  folks such as  yourself to get ideas on how to build your own things and if that idea called for wings, mine could be on hand to give an example, and nothing more.

I hold alot of respect for any creator out there who has taken the time to make something and then offer it up so that other's might learn and grow from it. I think many forget this fact and history of the freebie.

  13. Spontaneous! Be a little spontaneous! While there is a great degree of control in using studios or poseballs, mixing it up on the fly can bring amazing results sometimes. Below is a snapshot I took of my friend Kimmy while we ( and a few friends) were all dancing leisurely to music (not at a club) to kill the time. *the only edit in this image is my signature I added:

    KimmyCuthalfsizedown600signed.png

Also, commercial doesn't neccesarily determine how good or bad a photo is or isn't. Not everyone comes into SL hoping to be popular or sell the most popular thing. I myself prefer to leave atleast a legacy and testament to the joy I see through my eyes and project that as best I can onto the screen.

  14. You do need to have something in mind laid out or a general idea of where to find the resources you might need. You also need to look into studying various skills in SL such as Animation, Sculpties (mesh too), basic and advanced prim manipulation and their limits, texturing how textures are mapped on objects and base avatars, scripting. Object permissions, Inventory managemnt ( you're  going to be creating alot of backups as you build on your idea).

Experiment with what most appeals to you and fascinates you, and that you think my intrigue others.

Thats just a basic summary I can think of offhand atm for custom or personal avatar creation.
