  1. Even Linden Lab cannot just pull words out of the air or loosely define , not on legal terms. These are legal and binding terms without limitation to any of the other policies in part or in whole. Again since these are apparently The 'General Policy', then the term 'Discretion' is the same as "it is a Linden Employees call or discretion" which means exactly that you may or may not get warned or suspended for adult content on obscured inaccessible G rated land/parcel. But these aren't General Policy , but loose legal terms within scope subject to change at anytime with or without notice upon discretion. Also, the part where it states they may remove any content they feel violates ToS or similar guidelines, implies that they 'might' but not literally. They will contact or make every attempt to contact said person of the content (if it is on a parcel) to remove said content. If the contact cannot be made within a reasonable amount of time and the content is shown to have a disruptive effect or impact , then yes they will remove and inform the owner. Linden Employees are not allowed to just pluck things off your land because they deem them distasteful. This is clearly outlined in the Employee to Residents interaction guidelines which are not published on these pages but do exist.
  2. I'm sorry but that is still ambiguous in it's definition. Where is this 'General Policy' source that one can cite? Below are diagrams taken from: Legal/Second Life Terms and Conditions Page, Terms of Service, and Content Guideline and a list of references to all the policy pages. Nowhere is the term 'General Policy' mentioned or defined.
  3. To basically clear up any questions, yes one should ask a Linden or support on the matter (See attached image) It does not mean that any particular policy is allowed or forbidden or that a Linden does not know a particular policy. It simply mean on a case by case basis. So if anything, I'd let those that want to report a lone sex bed on a visual restricted group/private access only parceled house (even on a PG estate) and let a Linden make that determination , which the image clearly shows that it is a Linden staff's call.
  4. Parx, please go here https://community.secondlife.com/forums/topic/403538-community-participation-guidelines/ Abuse of Moderation or Moderators: Please honor our moderation process and the decisions that come out of it; they are being made in order to provide you with a productive environment for conversations about Second Life. We prohibit abuse of our moderation process, including the following: Posts that discuss or re-post material that has been removed or locked by a moderator Posts questioning a moderator’s decision Posts that discuss the status of any Resident account (e.g., on hold, suspended, etc.) Frivolous or malicious use of the abuse report feature I bring this up because I personally don't like people cluttering up the forum just because they 'could not find a place'. " So when the Lindens don't know where to put something, it's safe to assume that a new section should be made. " It looks like they found a place for you.
  5. You know Skell , this reminded me that there are many virtual online and single player games out there which feature shooting and disallow any kid NPCs/characterizations (like GTA) or the killing of child NPCs like in Skyrim and The Sims (The Sims 2 did have a rash of age inappropriate mods out there though so the problem was still there in context to pedophilia on that front as well). *note: I'm simply pointing this out in context to the virtual enviorment which SL shares as a platform.
  6. I hate to say it but emoting is not all it's cracked up to be. after typing all day at an office job to come home and log onto SL only to do more typing.... no thanks. It's 2017 ffs get a mic and media recorder and give me real theater post production quality. Still looking for a way to auto process these forum in text to speech
  7. But it's still Linden Research's responsibility to a degree under their original agreement and if the group is defunct or in disarray, it should be dissolved or replaced with a functioning body and system that supports the original endeavors. Otherwise, what's to stop just anyone, including myself, from making special deals with Linden Lab and then letting it run amok. This is also why Linden Lab deals with residents (customers) with kid gloves generally.
  8. I would contact Linden Research at their corporate address besides submitting a ticket on the matter. This is a sponspored program through Linden Research and clearly there is some financial incentive involved as well. This is and has always been the big mistake with LL when they break the own ToI, they mean well by doing this but really should have had more oversight in this matter on a regular basis (and it sounds like they have been pretty much absent in this part of the project. If they can afford to offer up free sims or at a low cost, to artists for the return of said artist getting a good amount of visibility and advertising in the process then they have to be following this.
  9. I just got a package from my neighbors lonely grandmother for Thanks Giving. It 'Clinks' and 'Sloshes'. Lets hope it's wine and not her collection of dentures >.<
  10. Looks like Roleplay content to me, Roleplay group or not. Also, you can use the 'report post' feature to the upper right hand of the thread to open this option and ask to have a thread moved. Mods are not obligated either way upon request and it is up to them after review.
  11. You guys do realize that Flickr is owned by Yahoo. I loathe Yahoo even after all their claims at patching security problems (my sister lost three computers after insisting on using Yahoo for her e-mail and communications due to hacks and viruses (and yes she was very careful). Youtube owned by Google , while better (imo) still suffers from oversight and censorship and you do have to be careful with what you post on there with copyright and dmca issues. I also wish LL would step up to the plate (again) and consider expanding the media tools and options we have for hosting. They have voice which is contracted through Vivox. Everquest II used the same service , though not the same contract or package deal , but still craptastic Vivox for VOIP. If we were to go the Skype route , LL would have to contract with Microsoft. So the whole hosting media idea is not quite clear cut and dry even if a company were to do their own service from scratch, there are still technical areas said media company or service provider might not be able to cover or build into and would have to contract from an outsource company to do the job. Even our physics engine is not owned by or made by Linden Lab Research. So all in all, I can see why they do not offer hosting at this time directly through the client and LL.
  12. If it's allowed at Wal-mart, it's ironically allowed in General sims in SL
  13. So do you mean spirit of community in a sense of how you perceived things to be? SL is a dynamic experience with no boundary in that conceivable approach. As far as community spirit goes, SL and the people that inhabit it simply have adapted to constant change. That does not mean however, that community spirit is gone exactly. We just don't continue to do things the same way infinitely and we adapt to whatever current state our perception of SL might be. I know many persons who have recreated themselves (alts) but they are still part of one of the communities I've been involved in since I joined. Blake sea and the flight and sailing sims are in effect still strong in aviation and sailing community hubs, they have changed in how they accommodate to better relate to and work with the current changes in technology that SL has gone through. Many airports that I have seen don't even allow large aircraft anymore from a reasonable path throughout Blake Sea, but i still see the same old names I am familiar with in that particular community. If it's a matter of more and new people from all over the world and you are not familiar with them, then get to know and familiarize yourself with them, welcome them. That is community and that has never really gone away since even beta.
  14. Don't bank on it. Remember back when Flexi first was rolled out and we all got 'Excited' only to discover we had disjointed (if not double jointed) Floopies that were sure the gain the attention of many This will not end well lol
  15. Was the script activated? There as still too many details missing to give a concise assessment. Like , where is this occurring? Who's land is it happening at? Is it private or public? can one person simply mute/block the other and move on with their SL , lol? A person can run around PG mainland stark nake with inactive genitals and still be within guidelines as long as they are not harassing anyone intentionally.
  16. Nothing more needs be said. This was most likely a private estate (sim) and therefor can ban any person for ANY reason including none, adult or minor, sex or no sex. Child avatars and/or minors (rl too) cannot ENGAGE (as in: initiate it) with any object or script that is deemed adult , from furniture to attachments such as genitalia. You can report anyone you suspect may be or you feel is under age and engaging in adult content at anytime and LL with look into the matter. If you contact a sim owner about the issue that is for them to decide and handle as well. As far as actual account bans, I have never witnessed a report of action on any person from Linden Lab whereas they state this information is kept confidential.
  17. This is why SL is not taken seriously. Basically most people in SL are not real DJ's virtual or otheriwse (don't get me started about the people that copy and paste a playlist through winamp off their personal music collection on their PC and call it good). I own a company which is listed and licensed as a Multimedia provider, therefor I HAVE to have licensing and all the other caveats that go along with using and/or playing any media on any platform. Whether it's my own website or blog, or some other persons channel or station. To be established as a real entity I must be licensed as outlined by various law and not just Copyright or Patent law, including FCC regulations. I am one of those people that that the FCC (for example) would file a complaint about if they got a report of me broadcasting via my servers at my business and home through my servers which are licensed under my company which I am responsible for real life fees and taxes. If an agency does file a complaint with LL concerning a residents usage of media , then yes LL has every right as outlined in the ToS to close the account until the matter is resolved. As far as a ban though , I don't know and highly doubt they would take such a permanent action on such a case unless it was proven to break specific clause outlining the infaction and damgages. I make animated music players and give them out freely (with specific next owner permissions as is required by the animation creator) to anyone that wants one for this same reason. I also have made replicas from TV characters which I do not sell and have even posted the originating creators credits through their website with the replicas, as is usually recommended. I also have made and sold custom avatars with sound effects , those sounds being mine. I have had people offer to partner with me in my SL business that I sold the AV's through but I had to turn them down because I would have to have a RL employment contract to do so under my businesses guidelines (my AV's are copyrighted and licensed under my business essentially). SL is so awash in Copyright infringements and 'loop' holes that it's not funny. But it is the originating creator and/or licensed agent of the content to make the complaint if something is being used without permission, otherwise not much can or has been done.
  18. I'm sorry but I couldn't resist https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ohU38WJV45c I know what you're saying. I have had my rl name come up and had people google my location, but I have given them fair warning that they are free to try and stalk me but that they will have to get through my rednecks first (i live in a town of about 9k where everyone knows eachother), and deploying drones for a flyover would prove futile whereas the crows and racoon would make quick work of them
  19. These are great responses and yes I do tend to have very open minded friends and family (but then on the other hand not always). I have some family that utterly refuse to accept a friend request for example if it's coming from Hunter Stern and not my legal family name , even though I have explained to them that I spend more time on the Hunter Stern account(s) and I like to stay in touch, but the decision is theirs in the end. I have been known as Hunter since 1995, infact by a business that sort of took me in when I was going through a medical crisis and Hunter simply stuck. Fast forward to 2004 and I added 'Stern' with the onset goal (as was mentioned above) to pursue outlets in art and creation and took that on as my 'Doing business as' persona. So for me it is more than just a handle or online nickname. You see many online games where people have a handle that they commonly use throughout various platforms and games but most won't directly identify beyond that purpose of the handle or name.
  20. I am curious if there are people who are known as or by their avatars identity as it relates to real life and other social media platforms. I am on Facebook as Hunter Stern but I also have a real life Facebook account for immediate family, BUT they also know I identify as Hunter Stern for the most part, including my listed birthday (rez day in this sense). I share my art and experiences of SL through Hunter Stern and likewise, my real life expressions and adventures on there and this gives my other family and friends who are not associated with SL a glimpse into this virtual domain and a chance to know me a little better. I am known in the town I live in as Hunter Stern, by artist acquaintance (we have a robust art community with well known oil painters, sculptors, wood craftsmen etc) Ofcourse many of them don't grasp the concept of digital or virtual worlds and 3D art the same way. Do people find it odd that some would identify a mix of both in their lives, or could this be a norm and common for some? I know many artists (actors and authors in particular) who tend to have pseudo-names or aliases, but in a way this isn't a matter of alias for me, whereas if I were given a choice to change my legal name it would be Hunter Stern. I bring this topic up because lately I have noted that I am going back and forth between accounts as well, reposting content because not everything can be seen by non-friends to an account. This might be bothersome for some and/or confusing , but I'm quite content with it for the time being myself. Some of my immediate family and friends don't understand the context of some images (for example, me out dancing at a club with friends on avatars) they have even asked what it was all about (and yes I soooo wanted to push them to sign up with SL, but on the other hand SL is truly a unique place that can literally make you feel as though you are starting from square one in terms of learning something new, and we do have a high population of technical minds in SL (call them nerds if you like, lol). I honestly don't know if it would be fruitful anyways to invite or have close real life friends directly in SL just to see what it is about and what it is I do or how I do it. How much does SL impact your RL?
  21. I recently did a search for local real life groups in my area that I live in. I was astounded at how there are absolutely no other artists in my area on the art networks where I live that create in a digital, virtual, or 3D medium. With SL, I am able to expand upon those forms of art with the tools that SL also provides such as windlight , havoc and other elements of the platform. With "real time" mediums of art, I would have to acquire physical tools such as brushes, lenses, timers, paint (and other substances) not always easily or readily available at the matter of a click, like a computer can provide. Call me lazy, but I could be making art instead of traveling on the road just to goto a supply store waiting in line at a check out(or waiting on a shipment of art supplies). SL saves me so much time in jumping right into it once inspiration strikes. Not only is SL's use and creation of art a hobby or leisure activity or even a money making venture, but it is highly educational in such fields to understanding theory in math, physics, literature, writing , and even psychology and philosophy. Computers , which SL resides in through the internet, has really helped bring real life factors into closer depth, but has also drawn numerous people from all walks of life together. If one is patient enough one can usually find so much just in the expression of art in through SL.
  22. My biggest disappointment is how differently RL people I have recommended to join SL , act once they are in world. They are come across completely different than if and when I have dealt with them in person. The preconception 'bubble' was pre-popped so to speak.
  23. Please refer to this thread https://community.secondlife.com/forums/topic/400244-progeny-griefer-attacks/ for further insight.
  24. A sub-forum would actually help. Many times when people are asking general questions for avatar help we get to play the guessing game of "is it mesh or classic or starter or...". ofcourse this won't stop people from posting asking for help on classic in such a sub-forum
  25. "Awww, I was hoping the new "Underforum" was for inhabitants of the Underdark, a Drow only posting area... *sigh* I'm SO disappointed." yes with allowances for Driders too! Oh well , I guess we can't have it all..
