  1. naw, I just figured half ***** trollin's better than none! 🤣
  2. Holy *****, I can't believe I actually managed to spell Scylla's name properly the first try....
  3. Well, I don't like it! I mean -what's the use case of this? Isn't more of a distraction than anything else? OH HEY BREE IS TYPING OHEY SCYLLA IS TYPING meh -what's the appeal?
  4. To better answer your question I'd have to ask one of my own: what have you got to hide?
  5. [reserrved for trolling some time when I've had >4 hrs sleep]
  6. Sounds like you hit a nerve. Clearly, you're better off. Thing is..? I was experiencing this in 2010. I actually wound up befriending a lot of people because we were the only ones who weren't zombies and were willing to shock gasp chat in local. So I'm not seeing this as being anything particularly new?
  7. I do that, though. The main reason I have an SL social media set up is so that if I go missing for several months I have a convient way to let people know that I am ok and haven't died. What gets on my nerves is when people get annoyed that I don't contact them through FB instead of SL.
  8. Hey -I know you!!! Looking good as always 😍
  9. Kind of an odd question...the vampire craze never really left SL, did it? 🤣
  10. No worries! And by "NSFW side" I meant the side focused on sex and things.
  11. Yes and no. Bear in mind I used to be a regular on #depressed (and for five minutes, an OP) back in 1998. Yes, the whole social media take on sharing mainly came about with or after myspace. There were different places (message boards of different kinds) where people would both get formal support (as in support groups) and also just shoot the breeze about what they did at work and things going on in their life. IRC (replaced ...poorly... by Discord), comment pages, forums of different kinds. I'm talking circa 1998, 2000 and I'd be surprised if that wasn't a thing as far back as 94 or 96... I think the difference is those places were largely obscure and semi-private. Things such as the off-topic area of a hobby board (which is more or less what we're posting in). People would talk about their day or share photos of somewhere they went because these chances were low that someone would know (or care) about the posters of bobs-bike-shop whereas nowdays everyone's out on facebook or reddit (humanity's single neck, as it were) which makes sharing much more risky. I had a point when I hit 'reply', I swear to god I did!
  12. Yeah, granted the SL forums were a lot worse 11, 12 years ago... in those days there was a real danger of things spilling over into real life. Mind you, that's still a danger, but it was worse back then. The difference between now and then is that ten years ago it was possible to find places on the internet where you could talk about your RL that were relatively safe but now that everything's either reddit or facebook not so much. Now the "anything you say can be used to stalk you" is an internet-wide rule; not just for the sl forums.
  13. Same, even if she did call me out (wrongly, IMO 😛). I can even relate for reasons I'm not going to post here ("anything you post to the forum can and will be used against you in a future flame war" 😱)
  14. The snark was an appropriate response to the insuation in belinda's post. I fleshed out that thought in my subsequent post and I wasn't talking about you. My post was in reference to belinda's comment that child avatars must be doing something illegal simply by existing. I'm part of a couple of RP communities inworld (as well as the NSFW side of SL). I know that they can be the same thing but are not necessarily the same thing; and that most people are able to tell the difference. tldr; "I already knew that, Cate; you should be saying that to belinda."
  15. Well said; I was going to say something about every accusation being a confession but decided to leave that alone. Judging by her (incredibly sparse) inworld profile, it looks like Belinda's primary focus is the NSFW side of SL. Nothing wrong with that -but I have a strong hunch that non-sexual RP is a huge blind spot for her. Even if it isn't it sounds like there's some sort of highly flawed logic going on here ("I'm here for XXX, roleplay is XXX, a kid avi is doing roleplay, therefore the kid avi is here for XXX"). It's obvious that it's BS once you break it down.
  16. I guess for some people "roleplaying" is something that can only be done with one hand? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
  17. That sounds like a "you" problem, not a "the rest of us need to give a *****" problem.
  18. Nope. Not IRL, not in SL. EDIT: descriptive vs prescriptive - you have the education, so I'll take your word for it. I'll just point out that the fact something becomes something different at a later date doesn't change what it started out as. eg the hippies that powdered their noses in studio 54 in the 70's were still hippies in woodstock, weren't they?
  19. Lastly; whatever happened to the Thinker's group from a decade or two ago?
  20. Also ...no poetry? If you mean poetry criticism then yeah -you're probably correct. But there's a few poetry readings in SL I end up attending and I don't even look for them. That tells me that there's so many that you end up stumbling over it unintentionally.
  21. As they say, if you want a job done right ... Personally, I think there's not enough left, particularly in the mainstream but that whole overton thing's broken hasn't it? (spoilers: yes, it has).
  22. No *****...? I understand that's supposed to be some sort of "gotcha" statement but to tell you the God's truth...? It's not.
