  1. Ok...I've read more about steam...it's not a thin client portal as I first thought...it's basically an online game shop, with a instant messenger overlay, with a few other things, that allow you to make your games more portable...you still need the high end computer to run SL... I see the value of exposure of SL to a wider gaming audience...and I see the value of an SL client being more portable..despite the fact that most residents dont use the the official viewer. I also see a couple of problems... First, SL has a rather robust economy...and though LL says that the L$ is not worth anything, many of us have significant amounts of US $ and L$ on our accounts...what happens should that money go missing? If we are logged in via steam, will LL then say that since you came in through the portal, they can't be responsible for the financial security of your account? Will both LL and steam point fingers at one another, saying that the other is responsible for your missing funds? How safe is our password, when coming in through a portal...would logging in be the same as sharing our password with another entity, in this case Steam?...Something LL warns us never to do? Next...we all know there are griefers...those people that LL occasionally have to ban from SL...they often do this with various methodologies that are designed to keep malicious folks from returning to SL...how will this be accomplished when entering via the Steam Portal?... Next...what about the fact that fully half of the residents logged into SL at any one time use a third party viewer...will those be available on Steam?...or will we only be able to use the offical viewer? Temp
  2. well, it's obvious that you have not been ignoring them...I would guess that the lindens are as tired about hearing about them via your AR's as folks here are reading your blogs...figure it out...ranting on about he said/she said junk is just about as exciting as watching paint dry to folks...and if you come off as lucid in your AR's as you do here, it's no wonder you are not getting any help from the lindens. Please...just chill out...find other friends...and drop the drama...this is JUST second life...
  3. there is no real way of knowing....for the following reason... LL uses multi processor servers...with blade type servers installed in a common backplane... On a full prim island, the island uses one entire processor...so the sim owner is able to determine what scripts are running on that particular island... a homestead sim shares that processor with at least three other homestead sims...not neccessarily owned by the same sim owner as the homestead you have your eye on...so, since you cant determine what is running on the other three sims that will be supported by the same processor that your homestead is running on...you have no way of knowing what impact those three other sims will have on your experience on your homestead. They will all have the same prims allowed on their land...but script impact can be wildly different from script to script, and from sim to sim.
  4. sorry...prims are not client side...and worn prims are not always phantom...but they are physical
  5. The recommended (recommended by LL that is) brand of joystick/controller is one named the SpaceNavigator, which is more of a six axis mouse than a joystick, you can find information about it at http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/SpaceNavigator it is used by enabling the joystick configuration that you will find under preferences in the SL viewer, and you can also use the xbox 360 controller too, and it may very well give you better results. It's not as easy to set up however, because there are not default setting built into the viewer for it, as there are for the SpaceNavigator. I think this is because LL sells the SpaceNavigator on their site, so they want folks to adopt it. There should be settings that can be used with the Xbox 360 controller in the photo in the wiki below...information about doing this is found here... http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Flycam and here is a video tutorial for using the xbox 360 controller with second life the various joysticks and controllers can be used to control your avatar and your cam, that i know of...the really neat thing I saw about using the xbox 360 controller is that if you have a headset that works with that controller, you can just jack it in...and use as your voice headset in sl too!
  6. you dont have to be truly invisible, by using an invisiprim...just use a sit target that offsets your actual avi's position more than 96m, which puts you outside of radar range...over as sim border....and you are outside of minimap range too...and your tag goes with your avi...

Also, that is possible for them to be not only invisable, but to not show on the mini-map or radar. Is this true? And is it something anyone can do, or only special powers granted to Linden avis?I know there is no real privacy in SL, and that even your chat and IMs are accesible to the Lindens, except those encrypted by the Emerald viewer, but can anyone spy on somebody this way? The question arises from a conversation I had with someone who was being followed around and harrassed, and did not know what to do about it. What you describe is quite possible, and fairly simple for a scripter to do...it is simple to be invisible...just create a sit target that offsets the sitter 200M into the air...or underground, this moves them off your radar...then use that same sit target, which can be named with their name, which is still near you...to relay their chat to you...and your chat to them...so it appears as if they are right there beside you, chatting...if you dont notice that the text is green, you wont know where they are, or how they are doing it. Camming is simple...they can set their cam to the same sit target...so their pov is wherever the sit target remains...better yet...make the sit target a vehicle...so they can move it around...to follow you in a sim...or across sim borders... Lastly, it is also simple to create a script that checks on a timer for the online status of anyone, if you know their key...or name...both of which are available to anyone in SL...even with the standard client...you can just look in the "all" search...to find anyone's key.
  9. where the hell can you get gum for a nickle?
  10. is your tenant paying their rent via a hippoRent box..or another system that keeps records separate from just the Linden transactions? If it is on a hipporent box, you can pull up past payments history.
