  1. @Robotshaz Forget cleaning out your computer. That is NOT going to help with your SL texture rez... unless your disk is so full you can't have a large viewer cache. I'll come back to that. First, where in the world are you located? Just a general location. Next open your viewer and click HELP->About... and paste that info here. We are looking for a couple of things; Packet Loss, draw distance, and video driver version. The most impact on your rez speed will be packet loss and draw distance. But, stay online 5 minutes or so before clicking HELP. When we first login there is typically a flurry of lost packs. After that things seem to level off. If your packet loss is <=1% that is decent and should not be a problem. 0% is ideal. While you wait press Shift-Ctrl-1 to open the Viewer Stats. Look at your PING. 250ms is slow. Hopefully you are under 250. I am typically 40 to 80ms. The larger this number the slower things will be. Over 250 and you start to see serious lag. Look a bit farther down the panel under Simulator for Time Dilation and SIM FPS. These should ideally be 45. Less than 30 and the region is lagging. In which case you'll see a bit of lag. Also take a look farther down at Total Unacked Data. Hopefully this is a low number like <500k and the closer to 0 the better. If any of the above numbers are higher than suggested then they are contributing to your rez lag. If they are good, go to SpeedTest.net and see how your connection is doing. SpeedTest.net is a general quality test. It does not test the actual connection the SL servers. Once we have this information we can start making recommendations on what you may need to change or who to yell at. As to disk space... look at your Preferences and see the size of your viewer's cache. In Firestorm that is in Preferences (Ctrl-P with viewer open)->Network & Files (tab)->Directories (tab). This should be as large as you can make it. You can move the cache to any drive in your computer that has more space. There is also the possible problem that you are hanging out on poorly built regions. So give us the name of a region where you see the problem. Draw Distance is another possible and easily fixed reason for rez-lag. For shopping 64m to 128m is reasonable. For flying and driving 512m is reasonable. At 512 you are asking your viewer to pull in textures and stuff from 9 regions. That WILL take some time. Try reducing your Draw Distance.
  2. Win10 updates about once a week. Windows 10 changes from week to week. So that it once worked and now does not is no surprise to me. If you run SFC (System File Check) every couple of weeks you'll find system files are getting damaged often. I have no clue how or why that happens. But I do see the results. At times SFC will find problems it cannot fix. Then you move on to DISM. (Tutorial on repair with DISM) What is being repaired here is the the Windows File Store. The 'store' is a backup the system uses to recover files to replace damaged files.
  3. Firestorm Preferences has a search field at the top of the panel. Type in RLV.
  4. If you are using Windows 10, there are Windows issues that can also cause the problem. Run Windows Update then open a command window with admin privileges and run SFC /SCANNOW
  5. @Marianne Little Thanks. The free Blimey Z-Offsets work very well. Adjusting Hover Height has problems as it affects sit position. Which changes my pose on my furniture. Being able to keep my Hover Height at zero eliminates that set of problems.
  6. Human... >90% likely. I have a couple of dragon avatars, a guy alt, another female alt, the box kid, gerbil...
  7. I have various email accounts, play and work. I use Outlook and now that sort of has to be Outlook 365. But it includes the MS Office pack too. So the US$6/mo is not that bad. Gmail is super well integrated with a ton of apps and services. But it gives Google way too much insight into a person's life.
  8. I thought I would try taisiyakarpenko's style to see if I might look elegant... Well... the style helps... not sure it worked. But it was fun playing in PS.
  9. There are those mornings... This is one of those moments in SL when the viewer is trying to show us and not really having it right... yet. But I may have to make the eyes and hair only into an out fit for next Halloween.
  10. Discord is a different type of chat. Whatever is posted to discord, 24x7, is there whenever one logs in. With SL groups you only ever hear what is being posted while you are logged in. That is a HUGE difference. Imagine the +40k people in the FS Group being asked and answering the same question over and over. The channel would be impossible to follow. You would never find anything it. SL groups are meant for transient conversations. We are only interested in what is being said now. We aren't searching the history for answers. That is a more forum like activity. As I think of Discord it is a forum without the SL moderators.
  11. @tyronbull It is hard describing which brands are good or better as some personal taste is involved. And some of the differences are way hard to describe. So I suggest you take a friend with you and experiment with the boat. How poses work varies from brand to brand. Bandit (I love my Bandits - a 55 sail and a 380 power) has the ability to allow you to give control to another. I suspect many brands include the feature. So it is a matter of how well it works and how easy it is to figure out and remember. Taking a friend along will allow you to experiment and see whether you like a brands method. Mesh Design, by Dutch Mainsail, makes some fun boats. I have a Flying Shadow catamaran by DM that is great fun. The various brands have different 'engines"... scripts that control the handling and reactions of the boat. So you want to sail and experiment with how they handle. How well do they handle a region crossing and turns a speed. And pay attention to region performance when testing. A laggy region destroys boat performance. (Ctrl-Shift-1) Ignore testing crossings with multiple passengers. That is unlikely to tell you much about the boat. Avoid getting hung up on the boat's HUD. There are after market HUD's for many of the boats. Plus there are ban-line detectors and other accessories. The USB or Ultimate Sailors Buddy is popular with the Topless Cruisers group. They use it to navigate their weekly sailing event, which is on Tuesday just after the majority of region restarts. Post restart makes for the best sailing. And the topless dance after party is fun. I am not enamored with the 'adult' animations in most boats. At best they are passable and will suffice for a spontaneous hook up. Changing or adding animations to a boat or any large link-set thing in SL is difficult. So, I consider these animations only a 3 or 4 consideration in a decision to buy a boat. You can most easily find boat designers in the SL Marketplace website. Then visit their in-world shops to demo the boats. I think the best info you can get about boats is from those participating in boat races. Find them by this search and ask people in the groups. Most of these people will be in-world sailing/racing and not hanging in the forum. Go to some of the events. Racers will probably not want to carry passengers. But the Topless sailors are friendly and often will offer rides. You'll have time to talk about the boat.
  12. I doubt there will be any changes to SL to provide a two-arm UV Map to the classic body, which is where the problem is. The Lab is very legacy-compatible conscious. But, there is nothing to keep designers from making bodies with a different UVMap. Slink has done that with their C&C bodies. But those are not going over well. I think the reason is because of all the problems like what EVO is having with people understanding why special skins, makeup, and tats are needed for their head. Designers have to change how they make skins for a two-arm map to work. So far it seems they are sticking with the basic UVMap made for the classic avatar, or very similar maps. Thus the alpha-cuts route is the current solution. This is a case where diversity is more of a problem than a help. Actually, no. The avatar and prims (most everything else) run through different render channels. The Avatar channel understands masking. The prim channel doesn't. The basic modeling process is to use transparent textures on prims. They are designed to look as one wants and thus can avoid the added render cost of composite rendering of masks. The avatar is a special case. Use of masks was a simple solution for the avatar.
  13. @Marnie Ansar You have us guessing... as I suggest above, post your viewer info. HELP->About... In that info will be some key info about your connection quality. The particle cloud avatars indicate your viewer does not have the info needed to render them. Remember. A good internet connection is not the same as a good connection to the SL servers. So, check you connection to SL.
  14. Removing the body removed the pants. That should tell you the problem is not a system layer/pants. Examining the Current Outfit folder and not seeing pants in some form should tell you the same. The only way to get something on a mesh body is via BOM or an applier. Technically everything actually on the body (the mesh item/prim) is 'applied'. It can be applied by an "applier" - which would be obvious to you, the body's HUD - which is common for lingerie and also obvious but perhaps not thought of as an applier, or an attachment has a built-in applier that triggers when the attachment is worn - which is NOT obvious at all. All mesh items in SL have textures applied in some fashion. Replacing the body with a new copy is a very acceptable solution. But, if you want to ever wear those jeans again you will need to understand how they are added and removed. The key word there being 'want'. There is no necessity to learn. There are some things to learn from your experience. Clearing cache is an absolute last resort. In SL's development, clearing cache while once the general first step in troubleshooting ANYTHING in SL has become the least effective step in any scenario. Didn't help in your case. Avoid that step unless someone explains why that step is needed. Generally cache clearing only helps when textures are corrupted and refuse to render correctly. That is VERY rare these days. I take it you could see the jeans and they looked like jeans. So not likely a corruption problem. Understanding how appliers work and how system layers work along with how BOM fits the processes by mixing layers and applying them to the body allows you to troubleshoot this type of problem. People here have given you the basic troubleshooting steps. As you learn how these things work and interrelate these problems are easier to figure out.
  15. Remember. Your get to see all your mistakes. We get to see ours. You don't. We only take pictures when we have it right. And we may take several pictures and do some post-processing to make the BEST picture... which is the only one we post. And we likely are never going to tell you what we think is wrong with the image/outfit/look we posted. So while you know know what is wrong in your image... (wrong often just meaning not they way you wanted things) we don't. So, that is a nice shot and I thought it very nicely done. If you hadn't said anything, I would not have know there was any problem. While this section of the forum is a good place to ask questions and get help... I suspect many of prefer a separate thread for when you as for help. Caption: AAAAaaaaaahhhhh... why won't it work!!?!! ...and there are days when things just do not come together.
  16. When I started in SL I used the default Linden made viewer. While using the SL Viewer I developed the habit of Mouse Steering. Left-click and hold, press W to move forward, drag left and right to steer. Drag forward/up and back/down to move the camera view higher and lower. Handy. I experimented with several viewers made by various people. Emerald, Phoenix, and finally Firestorm were often the best of the lot. Mouse steering worked well in those viewers and the current FS. The Mouse Steering gained function over time. I can now hold the W-key and also press A or D-Key to walk at a 45 angle. While holding down W and A or D I could release the W key to make a 90 turn. With some experimentation I find the right-mouse-button acts very much like the W-key (FS). Holding the Left-button... right-button walks one forward. Pressing the A or D-key while holding left and right-buttons changes the direction by 45, releasing the right-mouse while holding the A or D-key completes a 90 change from the initial direction. This habit is ingrained now and works well for me. At one point I decided to start doing video of SL meetings. I got a Space Navigator to make that WAY easier and get a much nicer final result. Not so many videos these days. But shoping with a SN is WAY WAY NICER. Flying the camera through a region is a nice way to explore.
  17. If you are a premium member there are sandboxes that are less used. Use the Wold Map to find them. Search on Premium. Otherwise search on sandbox. If you have been part of the SL Beta groups then there are the Release Candidate regions like Blue Steel, which these days are almost always empty. Additionally there are sandboxes in the Preview Grid. You do have to log into the the Preview Grid and often request SL Support to copy your inventory over. Normally it updates within 24 hours of your last login to the Preview (aka; Beta, Linden-Test) grid. The first time can be a problem and the inventory copy often fails. But, once working it continues and is reasonably reliable. You can read about the Preview Grid in the SL Wiki.
  18. Well... you are stuck in a rut... I suspect you aren't listening to anyone here. You certainly haven't responded to any of the suggestions and requests we've made here. Having been around SL for ~7 years you should have figured out that mentioning your computer spec and viewer brand are key to getting any kind of pertinent help. Use the viewer's HELP->About... to get the collection of data people need to help you. Post that info when you ask for help with a tech problem in SL. Otherwise, while many will attempt to guess at what may fix or be causing your problem, many of the more technically oriented people will wait, letting you stew, until they see some solid troubleshooting data that points to your problem.
  19. Yeah... I tend to adjust my SL attire according to the weather iRL. Not an absolute. I often dress for whatever I am doing in SL.
  20. That does not need to be a concern. Save your current look as an OUTFIT. Assuming you are using the default SL Viewer made by the Lab... Right-click your avatar and select My Outfits. Then select Save As... (at the bottom of the panel) to save the current appearance of your avatar. Done. Close the panel. This saves everything that makes this avatar look. You can come back to Outfits in the Appearance panel at any time and wear this outfit to restore your look. There are gotchas. If you are using BOM and avoiding appliers then your Outfits are very stable. If you do use appliers there are some other steps one has to take to maintain the integrity of your Outfits. Ask if you need to know those tricks. For those of us that like dress up, such as my self, a NUDE Outfit is a common starting place for new Outfits. I have 2 or 3 varieties of nude. I use a basic low ACI and script version, a second for every day dress, and a complicated version with all the toys I like. When making a new outfit I start with one of those 3 and add clothes, jewelry, shoes, change hair, make up, and whatever. When it is the way I want it, I save it as a new outfit. I name outfits by type and date. So, !Dress Mini - 2022-10 [body] [head] [colors] [ACI or script weight] The '!' is so they sort so all my Outfits are together in the panel. I also have copies of my head and body in a test outfit. I can change the test outfit avatar and never have to worry about messing up any of my other saved outfits. But this is a hold over from my days of heavy applier use. Depending on what you like to do in SL you will find a single outfit is enough or that you need lots of looks. Also, your personal preferences will decide what you want to do. I change my clothes every week and sometimes 2 or 3 times in a day. Also, the activity may dictate a type of outfit. Combat, flying, sailing... all have optimal outfits. Events with lots of attendees require low ACI and few scripts. Trying to fit into SL by doing what others do is not a good idea. There is no normal nor average... well... anyone can come up with an 'average' but it is not representative of anyone in SL. Avoid the PC idea pushed by media that you need to 'conform'. SL is a place to experiment and be an individual.
  21. We really have nothing to go on... what computer OS and which viewer are starting places. When you have a tech glitch and want help, open the viewers HELP->About... and copy paste that info with your question.
  22. It very much depends on where you are viewing the image and how you uploaded it. If it is on the forum, in-world, or some where in the SL support stuff - like profile images. Where you upload it, on one of the web properties or in-world via a viewer, makes a difference. In-world images are often referred to as textures. These 'textures' are applied to prims. Depending on how you apply the texture and size the prim you can get lots of distortions. In the support stuff, like profile images, the particular cases requires a specific ratio 4:3 or 16:9 or 1:1.... You can generally look up the requirements in the SL Wiki.
