  5. Kalli, yeah... I don't think display names was necessarily the best use of time or resources and it doesn't help me any, but I think the single-name thing takes a lot away from the SL experience.
  6. Seven, I think you are correct. What they think we want and what we want often doesn't seem to mesh. It's like politicians who swear they're doing what is best for those who elected them, without actually listening to public opinion. It happens all the time.
  7. If the name is already chosen, it shows a red x indicating the name is not available. All current users have had their names combined to one word in the database, so no one can use LucieBluebird, for example. I honestly think, from a purely creative standpoint, the new usernames are boring. I love seeing clever user names on my radar. I have a friend with the name Smooth Riverstone. She created the name because she wanted something cool. Her partner joined following a RL breakup and her name is "After Deceit." While these are names they could've chosen anyway, they wouldn't have more than likely. The preset last names inspired creativity and cleverness, and though that's certainly not a major loss, as a future English teacher, I do mourn the decrease in creativity that will come with usernames like "Lucie222." Also, I've always thought that no matter how odd the last name, having a surname made SL more authentic. It's not something typical and I like the unexpected.
  8. Kalli, yeah... when I have this particular problem no amount of character testing fixes it. I change prims and nothing else. Skin, clothes stay the same. It's endlessly annoying. Only going into V2 and changing fixes it. And maybe it's just me, but V2 almost always defaults me to the last outfit I had on when I log out of V2.
  9. The problem, Hara, is that there will likely be a lot of people who won't understand how new display names work, for various reasons (they may be new, they may not pay attention to what is going on with LL or they may not speak great English and just not understand the explanations). For store owners, it only takes ONE person to abuse the system once to potentially destroy relationships with prospective clients/customers. You can easily say "okay, but that's one person." Except... that one person knows people. Those people know people. I've seen how easily BS rumors spread in SL. So yes, as a store owner I am concerned about the ways that display names can be abused. Just because it's easy to find out who someone REALLY is does not mean people will know to do that or bother to do that. Plenty of people jump to irrational assumptions when there are perfectly good reasons not to, so there's nothing to stop them from jumping to conclusions if they see someone with my name over their head doing destructive things. While it may be true that when it comes to official reports, LL will know - without a doubt - who the actual abuser is, that doesn't necessarily prevent griefing and abuse that will still have a negative impact on business owners in SL. Or just on the average SL user, frankly. Hopefully, there won't be too much of this type of abuse, but I've seen enough ridiculous griefing that I am skeptical at best and concerned at worst. I don't hate LL or SL (and I'm not claiming your comments were specifically aimed at me, I'm just clarifying my positions moving forward). I love SL, despite the problems (of which there are plenty). And yes, because I've spent a lot of money in SL and invested a lot of time, I would like to see some of those problems resolved. I don't necessarily think display names was the best use of time or resources, but it's done... let's hope it doesn't cause a lot of trouble, and move forward to the next thing (like making V2 more user friendly and incoporporating some of the TPV features that I love like GTH or the easily accessible enviornmental controls) or working on increasing groups (which I know LL said is going to happen later this year) - which is something that for me will have a lot of value. Others may feel about the increased group numbers how I do about display names (they don't do squat for me), but because I own land, own two businesses and participate in a lot of hunts as a vendor, I am always up against that 25 group limit. So yes, this is something I am very excited about and can't wait to have implemented. It's also something I know a lot of people have wanted for a long time, so it shows that LL does listen to requests and user needs, even if some people might like to feel otherwise. The reality is that SL will NEVER be "perfect" or without technical issues or the issues that arise because there are humans behind (nearly) every avatar. Humans are deeply flawed and sadly often suck (griefers who have nothing better to do than cause trouble for people they often don't even know being an example of human suckage). So, anyone who wants "perfect" will always be dissatisfied.
  10. Coby, thanks for clearing that up. The problem I have with that method of attachment is that as a creator, it's hard to know where an item will appear on someone! We make poses, and our prop poses would use Left Hand 2, for example, if it worked in V2. That is nice because if we tell it to attach to Left Hand, people lose wedding rings (or nails, or whatever). However, since V2 doesn't recognize that attachment point, the result is it looks fine in a TPV that does support it, but hovers in V2. I guess it doesn't matter if V2 won't take off rings, but I do like the ability to fine tune it and wonder if the multiple attachments on one point mess with the positioning the creator designs. I guess if you're attaching multiple things to one point, you're going to have to edit them anyway. I can't stand V2. I find it chaotic, cluttered and frustrating to use. The tattoo/alpha layers are the only redeeming quality, but I've had that in TPV for some time now anyway - and those features alone are not enough to make me switch. I've joked that using V2 makes me want Xanax! I only use it when I have to for some reason (like sometimes my clothes just won't change in Phoenix), and then I use it for the bare minimum of time possible.
  11. Microsoft... Windows versions are released before ready and that's why they have so many "fixes." I would really like to see multiple attachment points supported. I thought V2 was supposedly going to do that. This is something FAR more valuable than being able to change the name I chose for my avatar. Instead, people using V2 see my rings (attached to R/L hand 2) floating in front of me. I know & see so few people in V2 that I don't worry about it, but I'd like to see this change.
