  1. Today's spotlight home up for rent is one of the latest houses that were added to the gated community this year.

    A three-story, modern open plan design, with a built-in ground floor garage, access to a private dock and pier around the back, a fully open plan second floor, and many rooms on the 2nd and third floors.

    A perfect home for a growing family!

    Contact Xiomara Lavendel or just TP over and rent it now!

  2. New Haven, the 27 region-sized roleplay town, has available homes for rent.  Whether it's a small 1 or 2-bedroom home, or a 3 or 4 bedroom family mansion, there's more than likely something to suit your needs!  With ready-to-move into homes, you also have the option of s "house swap" in certain plots to change the current house to another house which has been cleared to be used on that region.

    newhaven.thumb.jpg.04f9ea4273d3e7acbbb67e1b7bba40af.jpg

    • No land buy-in.  Simply pay the rental box, join the group and move in!
    • Modern theme.  New Haven is based on a contemporary town in Maine on the east coast of the United States
    • Option to tint the walls.  Most (but not all) of the homes available for rent have the option of wall tinting, so it's not all that new house cream colour.
    • House does not count towards prims.  The house is not part of the counted prim on your land, so all those prims can go to furnishing and decorating!
    • New Haven sandbox.  Renting a home in New Haven also gives you access to the private sandbox!
    • Light and para RP welcome.  New Haven is a roleplay town, but don't let that put you off!  We welcome heavy (para) and light roleplayers!

  3. New Haven is a 27 contiguous region roleplay town set in Maine on the east coast of the United States in the contemporary (current day) era.  With rentals available for homes and businesses, it is one of the largest RP community "townships" currently on the grid.

    newhaven.thumb.jpg.8197a72fe0c7e144ed62f2c54d9ff15e.jpg

    With plenty of RP opportunities in the many events, town departments (Police, Fire etc) and other residents living in the town, New Haven is also family-friendly with a school (currently being rebuilt) and family-friendly events run by our events team.  For the adults, we do have clubs, pubs and other "after watershed" events for when you can find a babysitter.

  7. I am going to say one word which sum's up my feelings about this..

    Good.

    Whenever I see a new release for an item and then TP to that place and find out its been stuck in a gambling machine that i need to keep throwing money at I just teleport out.  I know a lot of people who have become addicted to these machines, throwing huge sums of cash at them cause they "have to get it all".

    It's a lucrative source of income for creators, yes, thats true, but these same creators were doing JUST FINE before the invention of these cachya's...and they will survive just fine after it.

  8. I've worked for several companies that got taken over by investment companies.  What happens next falls into two categories depending on the path that the investment company follows.

    1: Things run smoothly for a year or so, then the investment company starts asset stripping piece by piece.  Not all at once (usually) but small pieces of the pie are stripped out and moved on to other companies they own.  Before anyone knows it, whats left is an empty shell, the user base then collectively leaves, and that empty shell is closed, or then, ultimately sold off to another buyer.  While that is going on, and about halfway through their plan, prices start to creep up, or new ways to milk the customer for money is brought in.  They intend to get as much cash as they can while the asset stripping is going on to at least get some kind of return on the initial investment before the sell off starts.

    2: The investment company...invests.  They take a loss on the initial purchase, a loss on the initial investment but have a road plan to regain that investment back in 2 to 5 years.  They hire in new staff to oversee and overhaul of the internal company structure, they hire in new I.T and new Dev's to oversee and undertake a complete and total independent and impartial inventory of the underlying structure of the company.  They then target the weak points, or points which may in the future stop or slow down income stream...and they throw money and people at it to fix the problem.  It is a long multistage plan, with the eventuality of the plan of making the company they invested into more profitable either by sheer growth of the user base, or an internal and external restructuring of the company and the services that company provides.  THIS is the kind of investment company we can hope has taken over Linden Research, the type of company who are in it for the long haul.

    We will find out (probably by the beginning of next year) if the investment company who took over is path 1, or path 2.

    If they are path 1, we will all see it within 6 months as cash grabs as small asset stripping starts to take place.  When you see that start to happen...leave or dramatically scale back.  I know i will.

  9. Hi!

    From December 5th running until the twelfth night (Jan 5th, 2020) the New Babbage Winter Faire will take place on the new Blackberry Fields region north of the Academy of Industry.  It will be a Steampunk based event with tents or temp wooden booths set up on the snow covered ground level, a marquee landing point on the hill at the back of the region looking down on the faire itself, and a skating area in the center.

    The region the fair is taking place on is part of the 12 region large City State of New Babbage, a Steampunk/Victorian city which has been on the grid for more than a decade.

    There will be between 40 to 60 tents and temporary stands set up on the region for creators and shops to sell their items laid out in two rings circling the skating area in the middle.

    Shops who have a main store, or satellite store within the confines of the City State of New Babbage can get a standard stall (or tent) for free, and will also be invited to take part in the New Babbage Winter Faire Hunt which will be a hunt solely based within the 12 regions of the city.  The items for sale at the fair should of course be along two main themes.  Steampunk and/or Victorian era.  The majority of the items on sale at the stand have to be within the Steampunk or Victorian theme, because hey, the event is taking place in a Steampunk city.  The event like the city is RP optional, however with the numbers of folks from outside New Babbage who will be visiting, the Faire itself will be a NON RP environment.

    Sponsor stalls, which are also the larger stalls, are in a very limited number, so its a case of first come, first get.

    ===Stand Sizes===

    Sponsor, 250LI (large 16x30, 5 max, *1500L$*)

    Sponsor, 150LI (normal 16x22 5 max *750L$*)

    Standard tents/stalls, 75LI 12x12 (free for New Babbage shops, or shops with a satellite store within the city, otherwise *400L$*)

    Skating Rink Mini Vendors, 10LI, 3x3 (max of 2 items for sale free for New Babbage shops and residents, or shops with a satellite store within the city, otherwise *100L$*)

    ===Event Rules For Vendors===

    No adult vendor images, or adult rated items rezzed (its a Moderate rated region)

    The majority (in other words over half) of the items being sold in your tent/stall has to be Steampunk or mainstream Victorian in theme.

    1 event exclusive item, item can also be sold after the event at your own shop/marketplace (in other words, it does not have to be an event ONLY exclusive).

    If you are going to have Gatcha's out in your stall, limit it to only one as this is not a Gatcha event.

    Original items by you or your brand only (no resell vendors).

    Stall's must be finished by the evening of December 3rd, and taken down (at the end of the event) by the evening of Jan 7th

    FOR SPONSORS - If you wish to put down your own build for the faire it will need to fit within the sponsor tent footprint and the build will need to be in theme (steampunk/victorian).

    ===New Babbage Winter Faire Hunt===

    New Babbage based shops wishing to take part in the Winter Faire hunt must have their hunt item out by the evening of December 2nd

    Item must be in the mesh hammer provided,

    Item can be an exclusive to the hunt if you wish, if not, it still has to be themed around New Babbage, or be Steampunk/Victorian or whimsical...cause we all love whimsical in the city..  Remember, if it all goes the way these seasonal events usually go, the hunt will bring a LOT of foot traffic into your store, so make sure your store vendors are up to date.

  12. One of the most heavily filmed and photographed cities in Second Life has some land available for either Residential, Commercial.. or even both! The City State of New Babbage was founded in 2007 and is a contiguous estate of 10 regions based on the theme of Steampunk and the Victorian era.

    The city has also been featured in the Destination Guide since the guide first opened!

    All of the regions that make up New Babbage is mixed commercial/residential the only exception is Port Babbage which is mostly commercial only.

    • No Land Buy-In! - No upfront major charge for buying the land at the beginning, you pay 1L$ to buy the land, then start your tier payments at the rental box!.
    • All Builds Inspected - No worries about big pink neon glowing box builds appearing next door to you. All buildings, even new ones placed by existing residents, are inspected before they are placed down.
    • Steampunk/Victorian Theme - The entire city is set in the time period of the 1880's, with a major twist of Steampunk thrown in.
    • Formal and Informal Events - A city the size of New Babbage has regular events, whether it be the weekly ones like Foot Tappin Friday, or the large formal events like the ball at Piermont Landing. Socialising and getting to know your neighbours wont be a problem :D
    • Roleplay is OPTIONAL! - New Babbage is a themed city, set in the Victorian Era. However the RP side of it is NOT enforced. It is up to you whether you want to RP or not. We have left the city optional in order for folks to simply... look around and explore the city. No need for OOC tags, no need to dress up in period .
    • City of Builders - Worried that you cant build a home or store that will fit with the theme? New Babbage is well known in the Steamlands as the "City of Builders", someone in the city will be able to build your home or store building for you.
    • Engineers Sandbox - Land owners in the city get access to The Fells sandbox platform, a private builders sandbox in the northern end of the city.
    • City Transportation System - Trams and water taxis run across all the major sections of the city, a great way to show friends around all 9 regions.

     We also have our own drupal style website for RP blogs, event listings or general forum style chatter at http://cityofnewbabbage.net/

    Landmarks to the listings can be found at the old dock in Port Babbage... http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Port Babbage/38/91/106
