I see mesh as an alternative rather than a replacement for regular prim/sculpts. When I started creating in mesh I launched new brands so that I could keep my mesh and non mesh content separate. The non mesh still sells very well and after focusing on mesh for 2 years I am now building new content in sculpts and prims as there is still allot of demand for it, especially with prefab buildings as customers want the ability to rip them apart and to customize them. I think there is room for mesh and non mesh content in SL and customers are confirming that with their wallets.

I completely disagree. If you create good content then you are likely to be copybotted multiple times. That is the norm rather than the exception in SL and has to be factored into your business plan if you have one.

A sculpted prim is no different to any other prim, so it can be ripped off although not the sculpt map itself.
To the OP, hundreds if not thousands of us have been ripped off in SL. You need to try using the DMCA process to get the content taken down. Google it, there is a procedure guide in the wiki.
In the meantime you could send a very formal notecard to the thief, threaten them with legal action and anything else that is not prosecutable in court. I have scared many a thief into quitting just by being overly aggressive towards them. Also check if the thief has an inworld store. If they do, and it is rented, then you can contact the estate owner, politely tell them about your issue and try and get the thief kicked off of their land. I like it when this happens as it inevitably costs the thief money. If all this fails then you have the DMCA process to fall back upon, although if the thief knows how to "play the game" then the DMCA process is next to useless in 99% of cases.

I feel your pain Czari. I have been upgrading recently and got a new card and 2 new monitors. The card has 3 ports, one DVI-I which can be used to plug a vga cable in using a DVI adapter, this would run an analogue signal, Another port is DVI-D which is used for running a digital signal and the 3rd port is HDMI. So I went and bought 2 brand new HD digital monitors so I could duel screen and both of them came only with a VGA cable! I was amazed, no cabling or adapters included to connect the digital monitors to digital ports. Dillion is spot on when she said that monitors seem to be out of sync with graphics cards nowadays.
I also feel your pain with fitting large graphics cards inside cramped towers. Been there and done that too many times. So on this build I got a Coolermaster case which is just massive. You can run allot of the wiring around the back of the mobo leaving the main chamber less cluttered to give improved airflow. Also makes it allot easier to get the video card in and out as required. I purchased a Zotak GTX 670 4GB card online for £299.99
An independent local retailer 10 miles from my house sells it for £330
Another independent retailer 15 miles from my house sells it for £349.99
The big conglomerate that I did my switch with is 15 miles away as well and they sold it for £385.
The bricks and mortar company who has the ability to purchase the card at the lowest wholesale price is selling it at the highest markup in my area. That tells me everything I need to know about that company. They don't care about providing value for money to their customers. All they care about their bottom line. If you choose to defend such a company and support that money grabbing corporate culture then that is your prerogative. But I am certainly not going to feel guilty for ripping off a company who is in business to rip off their customers.

I have been selling content here for over 8 years. I own 4 brands and sell over 5000 items. So I have obviously been ripped off. I have filed over 150 DMCA's over the years and I am astute enough to monitor my markets, identify thieves and to know when I am getting ripped off. The people who choose to rip me off take a gamble. WIll I find out? WIll I shut them down?, In most instances the answer is yes.
So I took a gamble when I fraudulently returned the card to the store. WIll they find out? will they prosecute? No of course not. Why? because they don;t care. They take no steps to ensure that I could not do this. A simple check of the cards serial number against the one I purchased would have completely foiled my plan. They left their selves exposed and I took advantage without fear of recourse. If I acted the same way in SL and left my self exposed to theft without having the ability to identify and stop that theft then I would deserve to be ripped off too.
So yes, if I can get away with something in life with minimal chance of consequence, and it falls within my morale boundries, then I will do it. At the same time I will not allow people to steal from me. So does that mean I have double standards? Does that make me immoral? The answer is yes. I live in the real world not in some Disneyesq existence where everything is either right or wrong, black and white. I choose to live in the grey area in between, guided by my own morale compass of what is right and wrong.
Of course when living in the grey area (as I do), one is prone to be lectured by those holier than thou people who choose to live on the white side of conformity. That is OK. Such interchanges are amusing and enlightening at the same time.

Last time i checked I could not run SL, photoshop or 3DS Max on my phone, which is the only device I use to post on the forums.. If I am at home or work and have access to a machine that allows me to design then that is what I am doing certainly not wasting time on here.
So if anyone reads my posts on the forums you can picture me on my phone sitting on the train or in traffic or on the loo taking a dump.

This is an astute observation.
My theory is that those of us remaining from the first few year of SL are only here still because we have business interests in SL. So we are far too busy trying to earn money to play dress up with our avatars. Maybe for the first few years we get involved and make an effort, but after a while it just becomes a job and there are always a hundred and one more important things on the todo list

I did not want to RMA the card because I did not want to be without it. So I went to the shop, bought an identical card. This cost me £385 which is ridiculous considering I bought the original card for £300 online. Come home fitted the new card, works fine, put the pig squealing card in the box, took it back to the shop, told them the story as outlined in the OP and got my money back.All in all a good day's deception,The new card has some coil wine when running SL, but nothing out of the ordinary so I am now happy.Thanks to everyone who posted!Are you saying that you pretended the card you were returning was the one that you bought at the shop???????If so, that SUCKS.Yeah, brick and mortar stores are generally more exspensive (and some I might agree are over priced), but there is a reason for this. They have a physical presence that costs a lot more than a warehouse with endless shelves. They also can offer greater added value service. Like you didn't have to hasssle with an RMA.I can't remeber if you ever have, but if you ever post again about someone in SL trying to take advantage of you as an SL Merchant, I'll be sure to point you back to this thread.It wasn't a small time or independent trader, it was the largest computer component supplier in the country. I could have gone to a small shop and paid less for the card (as there was always a risk my plan would fail and I would not be refunded) but I deliberately went to the conglomerate so I could "stick it to the man". Although the man wont be sticky for long as the shop will just RMA it themselves and resell it as new or refurbished.
You will not find me (as Porky or any other account I sell through) complaining on these forums of people taking advantage of me, although it has happened hundreds of times in the last 9 years. What you will find, is me consistently telling other merchants that they need to accept the fact that they will probably get ripped off in SL and that they need to roll with the punches and accept it as a consequence of doing business here.
The same is applicable to RL business. What I did was one of the oldest tricks in the book. Companies factor in a waste value when projecting their turnover and expect and account for people like me ripping them off.
I get your point, and why you chose to lecture me, but you can save your breathe. If I can get a free meal at the expense of big business then I am going to take that meal and go back for seconds and thirds as well.

I've got a 1000w PSU as I plan to stick a GTX 680 in there next month, so definitely enough juice. After sticking my head inside the tower I pinned the sound down to the GPU. I stuck my fingers into both GPU fans and stopped them for 2 seconds and that did not stop the sound so I guess the GPU fans are not the issue.
In the last half hour I have tried running 4 simultaneous instances of Firestorm. To start with the squeal was loud/ but after about 10 mins the sound consistently lessened. Possibly it just needs to be worn in? Only had the card for 3 days
I hope running 4 instances of FS is not my permanent fix :matte-motes-big-grin:

I still use v1.23 every day, in fact I have 3 av's logged in on it right now. I have different businesses on different plots around the place so like to leave an av above the main stores to show the creator is alive and active and I can use 1.23 to answer q's and do basic stuff. It is such a light viewer and I can run multiple instances of it without it effecting my performance at all.
ETA - I don't know if you can still download v1.23 but if any oldbies want a copy v1.23 for nostalgia purposes I am happy to send.

ooooh this I had not considered. In fact everythiing else I've tested it against has been DirectX. I am also using the latest driver. I shall try rolling back on the driver when I get home and also test in other OpenGL applications,

Got a decent Asus Mobo and can monitor the GPU from there, temps are all norm in SL, low infact compared to my old machine as this new tower has water cooling and 7 fans.

I think a fan bearing issue would be present in applications outside of SL that are more graphic or equally graphic intensive, so don;t think this is it.

My sentiments exactly. I've tried every notable virtual world out there. IMVU is a great alternative platform to sell content but beyond that it sucks. The only other virtual world I have committed to over the years is EVE. 9 years nearly in both EVE and SL. In SL pretty much everyone I have known is gone. In EVE I can name at least 20 people who have been very active for over 7 years and still are now. I think that says allot about the EVE and CCP's ability to retain users when compared to LL.
