Czari Zenovka wrote:What type of books would you be selling and would you be *only* selling books?
I would sell the type of book that looks awesome and interesting and unique when sat on the shelf or put on display. As for the content of the book, that doesn't matter....can stick any old tripe in there. I would also sell funky bookcases that complimented the varying style of books.

Challenge accepted.
I bet you 1000 USD I could set up a book shop in SL and make it profitable in a month. :matte-motes-big-grin:

I was quite annoyed when they banned pick gaming after GSA 6 was rolled out. I had held the number one ranking on keywords such as houses, homes, and stores and had a good system in place to ensure I was attracting the majority of those people prostituting their profiles for a few L$. The ban came into effect, and as a good citizen who tries reasonably hard to abide by the TOS I stopped gaming picks. Overnight I lost my rankings and my listings were buried and I was left floundering around for weeks trying to make sense of the new search engine in an effort to successfully abuse it again.
Maybe I am seeing the past through rose tinted glasses, but it was allot more fun doing business back in the days when the majority of business was driven by in-world search. The factors that determine ranking were constantly changing and gamers were constantly competing with each other, with allot more one upmanship going on. It added an exciting edge to doing business in SL and winning "the game" resulted in real financial rewards.

Man, having an automated system would have given me a decisive advantage, especially as it was little old me against a group of people. Unfortunately this took place before your time I think, I was at very start of my gaming exploits and I remember dwell was one of the things I was gaming. I rekon it was must have been late 2005, early 2006. By the end of 2006 I had left the mainland entirely and was on private estates. I hated mainland by then as that was when the spam fest was in full swing. Dickheads cutting up parcels into tiny plots and filling them all with massive ads boards. I returned to the mainland in 2011, all 4 brands, 7 stores in total, and I have to say I have not really had any negative mainland experiences since then.

Perrie Juran wrote:Some of that goes back to the old problem of a lack of any sense of zoning on the Mainland.People used to be virtually forced off their parcels when someone would open a Club rendering the SIM almost unlivable because of the lag fest.I believe in being a good neighbor myself, but not everyone does this. Can really suck at times.
I actually encountered this exact scenario on a mainland plot back my early days. I owned half of the region which had a prefab store on it, a new club opened up on the other half. The increase in lag was instantaneous for me and at peak times they filled up the region and my customers could not even get into the store. The whole thing got very messy and petty and it nearly put me out of business. The only way I could stay in business was to take control of the traffic. I was running between 30 and 40 bots constantly, manually adding and removing them as my customer numbers increased or decreased. This was difficult to maintain but eventually I managed to drive the club out of business and they abandoned their land. I ended up paying through the nose for the other half sim at auction to stop it happening again. It was a **bleep** thing to do on my part, but it was either them or me...so I chose me. Thank heavens for traffic gaming :-)

It is a new piece of Software that is going to be demo'd at SIGGRAPH in November of this year, SIGGRAPH is a large annual graphics conference To be honest there is not much more info I have found beyond that, although I didn't look for long. I expect there will be allot more reviews of this software come Nov.

Indeed. And when you consider the implicaitons of this technology combined with 3D printing, in 10 years time anyone with the approproate kit could possibly create a 3D model and print it out with only a mininal skillset.

The question here is HOW are they Identified. We know that some of them use Alt accounts. But where is the proof?Yes, you are right, there are no general methods for identifying Alt-Lindens. In my case he approached me to chat about what I was working on, on the beta grid, and the conversation moved on him recounting a conversation we once had in one of my stores whilst he was using his Linden Av. I remembered the conversation well as I have only encountered Lindens in my stores 3 times in all the years I have been here, I asked him why he was using an alt and he told he was "undercover", followed by a winking smiley face....so I did not enquire any further. In the last 6 months I have seen him on my radar maybe 10 times on the beta grid. On the majority of occasions he is with either one or two other av's, also non Lindens. I am wondering if these are also Linden alts...however it would not be very cool to go up and ask them so I just chill and carry on with my work. I will admit that on the few occasions they have come near me I started rezzing some of my best pieces to try and engage them into conversation and a possible sales pitch.....but alas they just ignore me, other than an occasional "Hi".

Whinning and complaining is what the internet was invented for. Complaining and looking at pussies......................on lolcats.com, obviously.

I DO pay annually, and I DO get the L$500 per week on all my premium accounts. So infact, my current premium accounts all actually make me profit just for keeping them going....so I actually have no reason to complain for once and will just STFU.

So there is an offer to entice people to sign up for premium...But no discount for those of us that already are premium and have supported SL for the majority of it's existence?
Linden Lab sucks.

Phew.... I was just wondering when someone would take the time to post an EXTREMELY insightful bird themed idiom, and here you are to save the day. Yay for you.

I like Mickey, she is cool. I have her as a friend in world but she only logs in very occasionally now and not for very long. Like the majority of people on my friends list, I think she is basically covering her business and that is it. Of course she could be using alts and still heavily involved in SL.....who knows. I liked watching her rub people up the wrong way on the forums as well as some of her epic battles with Pam. All good quality entertainment. :smileyhappy:

I am English and I am VERY EXCITED about the royal birth ......mainly because I want to see whether or not the baby is Ginger and enjoys dressing up as a Nazi in it's spare time.

Pamela Galli wrote:Is EVE Online a game? I looked at it and did not see any work opportunities.
Yeah, it's an MMO set in space. No opportunities to create or import original content though. There is a way to make real USD from EVE but you need high level characters and the ability (in game skills), blueprints and resources to manufacture the high price tag items. There is then a very convoluted process one can go through to convert your game money into real money, however it violates EVE's TOS in the process.

Deltango Vale wrote:SL is like Detroit. It's going nowhere until a new management team rebuilds the technical infrastructure and reverses years of bad policy decisions. The only alternative to SL at the moment is EVE Online, which is growing like wildfire under a brilliant management team. I pray daily that CCP Games will buy Linden Lab and take SL into the 21st century.
My sentiments exactly. I've tried every notable virtual world out there. IMVU is a great alternative platform to sell content but beyond that it sucks. The only other virtual world I have committed to over the years is EVE. 9 years nearly in both EVE and SL. In SL pretty much everyone I have known is gone. In EVE I can name at least 20 people who have been very active for over 7 years and still are now. I think that says allot about the EVE and CCP's ability to retain users when compared to LL.

How are you doing Darrius? :smileyhappy:

I see mesh as an alternative rather than a replacement for regular prim/sculpts. When I started creating in mesh I launched new brands so that I could keep my mesh and non mesh content separate. The non mesh still sells very well and after focusing on mesh for 2 years I am now building new content in sculpts and prims as there is still allot of demand for it, especially with prefab buildings as customers want the ability to rip them apart and to customize them. I think there is room for mesh and non mesh content in SL and customers are confirming that with their wallets.
Oh, Is This Why They Changed the TOS?
