  1. Much like real life, SL is what you make it. The places you go and the people you interact with define your experience. So I suspect the title of your thread "SL is drama, period" is only applicable to you and others like you, mainly due to the choices you have freely made since you have been here. I've been here 7 years and focused on building content, creating a business and generally interacting with other like minded people. I try to avoid drama at all costs, it's not something I desire in RL or SL. I deal with customers on a daily basis and obviously come accross some that are pure drama queens. At this point I am presented with 2 options, I either stoop to their level and engage with them, perpetuating the drama, which is what they want, or I can choose to ignore them. I always choose the later, even if it means loosing a customer and revenue. I just don't have the time or inclination to deal with drama queens and quite frankly I can't be arsed with it.. So I don't..... period.
  2. Infohubs replaced the telehubs that existed before LL rolled out point to point teleporting in 2005. Back then telehubs were a natural gathering place as that was the point in a region that avatars would arrive when teleporting into the area (unless they had a personal TP request). Land around telehubs used to be in massive demand as well due to to all the passing traffic. So I think the popularity of infohubs as gathering places stems back the telehub days and has existed ever since to some degree.
  3. Make sure your SL name rhythms. It makes it much easier for people when they want to write songs about you to honour your greatness. oooh Porky Gorky, he likes to talk on his walkie talkie, whilst eating dinner with his forky, and draws a picture with his chalky......
  4. Well I assume Torley still works at LL so just get him to write a basic guide. He has a proven track record of engaging with the community on a level they understand and generally takes a non techie approach to tutorials. Seriously, if there is no one left at Linden Lab that can engage with the average user on the grid then the company truly is doomed to fail.
  5. Maybe Linden Labs could actually be proactive for a change? Well I guess it's a little late to be proactive seeing as mesh has been rolled out for months now, but just a simple bulk mail shot to every SL user and a few blog posts would go a long way to help educate people. Why hasn't this been done Charlar? A large percentage of the second life's user base are having to scratch around for information, relying on outdated or fragmented wiki pages or on their friends or merchants to educate them, and even then some of the facts about mesh that they are learning are wrong or misunderstood. Seriously, take one afternoon to write a blog post and send a bulk email and help educate your user base. A little bit of effort on Linden Labs part would go a very long way to helping the average user understand mesh and I bet it would help increase the adoption rate too. The information doesn't need to be overly technical, you don't need to educate people on how to create and import mesh. You really just need to cover the basics. What is mesh? How can I view it? Explain LI and the effects that linking mesh has, what happens when you add a script, what happens when you resize a mesh? Just a noob guide to mesh is all that is required. If you don't have time then just say, i'm sure members of this forum would do the leg work for you and create a blog post or email. We just need you to post it, we can't access the SL user-base as a whole like you can. What do you say Charlar?
  6. Anyone know how to achieve the same result in 3DS Max?
  7. I find Linden Labs current silence quite ominous. I know they are not the most communicative bunch but the last 6 weeks it has been eerily quiet. I am starting to think something big or at least significant is going to be announced soon. Be afraid....
  8. LL have been very quiet lately on the blogging front. You could check out the office hour minutes, that might give you some insight, The only ones I really follow are content creation/mesh which are found Here I assume there may be other Lindens still holding office hours...although on second thoughts, this is LL we are talking about, so I shall refrain from assuming anything. Mesh meeting minutes is all i've got :smileyhappy:

They think they are clever..... but I know what they are up to....they are really likenening me to a males genetalia. I ask you, have you ever heard of anything so ludicrous? Just read my contribution to this thread.....I think it's pretty clear to everyone that the last thing I am is a "member" :smileywink: :smileyfrustrated: Dammit!
  11. It's not the same. They are much better. I want our crappy emoticons back, I don't want any of your modern animated upto-date nonsense. And you call yourself a helper? pfft. :smileytongue: :smileymad: Dammit!
  12. valerie Inshan wrote: Porky please don't go. Please????? No.....I cant face a life without smiley face emoticons. What am I supposed to do if I feel sad, or horny or like I really need to wink at someone? How am I supposed to cope?????? No....A world without smiley faces is no place for Porky Gorky. :matte-motes-crying: :matte-motes-dont-cry: Dammit!
  13. Which ever Linden is in charge of smiley face emoticons should be FIRED IMMEDIATELY!. I've tolerated allot of bugs and glitches and incompetence from this company over the years, but this is the straw that broke the camels back. I am selling my land, closing my business and leaving for good. :smileysad: :smileyfrustrated: Dammit.
  14. Well, as 42 has been taken I'll guess I will have to go with 69 (dude!)
  15. 12 Abbreviations in 3 sentences not including the topic. Most impressive.
  16. Smokey Newman wrote: Is it though ! It just annoys people and they don't bother. Maybe in the short term they will be annoyed and frustrated and give up on shopping for the day, But the longer this goes on the more people will naturally become more distrustful of the MP and will switch to shopping in world. I hope all the non deliveries continue and that LInden Labs continue on with their "campaign of incompetence " I really dislike what the marketplace has become,. IMO the failing of in-world search is the only reason the marketplace has been elevated to it's current level of popularity. The only thing the MP is good for right now is to act as a glorified search engine to compensate for the failings of in-world search. Consumers should use the MP to find the creators they like and then visit their store in world to make a purchase. If the creator doesn't have a store in world? Well then, don't purchase their products, the merchant obviously doesn't care enough about providing a stable environment for you to make your purchases and you sure as hell can't rely on the MP to deliver your purchased goods.

THERE IS A CHEATER HERE EVERYONE. :smileyhappy: You are only allowed to post a mesh pic if you correctly guessed the LI of the previous mesh. As Medhue is the current winner we are guessing his LI at the moment. If you can't play fairly then you won't be able to play at all. :smileytongue:
  19. Dwight K. Schrute - Second Life is not a game. It is a multi-user, virtual environment. It doesn't have points, or scores, it doesn't have winners or losers. JIm Halpert - Oh it has losers.
  20. Madeliefste Oh wrote: It has the size of normal womans handbag. x = 0.13, y = 0.26, z = 0,38 But good idea for a new rule in the game, Drongle. Add the size of the object to the picture when it's your turn to post. What is "normal" though? my wife's handbag seems to be able to accommodate at least 50% of all the matter on planet earth. :smileywink: My serious guesstimate is 4
  21. It could be a trick! Maybe there is a really complex geodesic sphere in the bag? Tread carefully! I guess 476
  22. Lets not get bogged down in semantics, worrying about who is right or wrong. Gavin is clearly right, the sooner we all accept that and move on, the better. :smileyhappy:
  23. Toysoldier Thor wrote: Ohhh and for Gavin Porky and you that all are hoping that LL will force Merchants to reveal their RL identity in order to participate in SL activities - your hopes go against the CIO of LL that has a very strong understanding and holds a very high importance in the ability for SL Customers to remain anonymous. He has made several presentations on the reasons why. Why should merchants be allowed to remain anonymous when they are taking real money from people? This isn't a game, this is business and LL continuing to allow Merchants to operate and take money from people with zero accountability is wrong. If you don't want to register at least PIOF with the company that hosts the platform you make your money from then don't sell content. Go and be a normal resident and remain anonymous. There is room anonymity in SL but not when it comes to selling content for real money. Toysoldier Thor wrote: As for Porky's belief that all Merchants must be a Premium account to be a Merchant.... sorry - I dont see any value in this and in fact all it does is not only reduce the Merchant population of possible "evil doers" it will also reduce the Merchant community size of legit merchants that do not want to be premium account holders. There is very little value in being a premium account holder - this would simply be a tax grab for LL. Copybotters and all other evils will simply sell more of their stuff inworld where an annual Merchant Fee is not required. You all need to stop with the "life would be so much better if there were more Merchant fees and controls and and and" theories. Put yourself in the shoes of most of your customers. They dont care about your theories of what makes them buy products..... PIOF and Premium accounts etc. doesnt do any of this. My suggestion was made with the goal of improving accountability, streamlining the merchant community, reducing the amounts of old content that is no longer supported by innactive creators, reducing the amount of content theft and increasing LL's revenue, helping to support the company directly that has allowed us to make a shed load of money over the years. Too many people get away with running a near 100% profit operation, no land, barely any overheads to be paid to LL other than the % they take on MP sales. I know this does not describe everyone, but it does describe a significant percentage of SL. They just want to take take take without giving a damn about helping to sustain the company that made it all possible. They are here for a free ride. As for your statement "Copybotters and all other evils will simply sell more of their stuff inworld where an annual Merchant Fee is not required." I said In my previous post that I wanted it to be mandatory that only premium accounts can sell content on the MP and inworld. for the specific purpose of not giving content thieves any easy ride within SL.. I want it so that people need to register their PIOF, subscibe to a premium account, After their account is 30 days old (or maybe 60?) they can register as a merchant but not before filling out a lengthy questionaire regarding copyright infringement. Then and only then will the "sell" button be available to them in the viewer in-world and only then will they be able to list items on the marketplace. This won't eliminate content theft, of course not, but I bet you every penny I have ever earned in SL that it will help reduce it.
  24. There was talk of updating the MP with LI filters at todays mesh meeting Here AT 12:41 Charlar Linden said " ....I'm talking with Marketplace to get some more mesh related and LI related filters and such." At least its on an agenda one would hope.
