    Documentation for the LSL functions is up on the wiki but not yet linked to the main functions page. You can find it here:

    https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Category:LSL_LinksetData

    On this roll I've added three new functions

    llLinksetDataWriteProtected(string name, string value, string pass);
    llLinksetDataReadProtected(string name, string pass);
    llLinksetDataDeleteProtected(string name, string pass);

    These functions create "protected" keys in the datastore. In order to update, read or delete a protected key/value pair you must provide the same pass string that you supplied when it was originally created. Protecting a key incurs a 32byte overhead in addition to the value and key length.

    Writing to a protected key without the correct pass string will fail and return LINKSETDATA_EPROTECT.  Reading a protected key without the pass string returns an empty string, and attempting to delete one fails silently.

    In the linkset_data event when writing a protected key, the value parameter will always be an empty string.

    Protected keys are removed by a call to llLinksetDataReset.

    Why would you prevent the user from deleting keys and recover storage on objects they own?

    But you CAN'T get a "juridical" reply, because as I pointed out, THERE ARE NO LAWS IN SL.

    No, really, there aren't. Because laws and lawsuits and lawyers have become so much a part of our society, we find this hard to accept, but it's true. SL is truly a place where anarchy (tempered by occasional interventions by LL) reigns.

    The only venue where the law applies is Real Life. So if you have some Real Life evidence of Real Life harm to your Real Life pocketbook, then by all means, bring your case. LL does have to respond to a subpoena or a search warrant and reveal the RL identity of your opponent. Of course, to bring any sort of actual suit, you'll spend a minimum of $20,000 or so. So determine if it's worth the cost before you start down that road.

    DMCA takedowns are free and usually do the job if what you want is for them to "stop".

    VRChat does not allow adult content, including sex.

    • Pornography & nudity is not allowed.

    They explicitly state that should you find any you're not allowed to share it with the world.

    The fact that VRChat (like Roblox) is infested with private sex rooms is not their concern and should it be reported then it will be removed. Much like how they say you are not to upload copyrighted content, yet almost everything on the platform is copyrighted, upto and including full game asset rips, models, levels and all.

    Second Life is different in that it has a clear and stated policy for permitting both private and commercial adult content.

    For SL to appear on Twitch, LL would have to explicitly ban all adult content and make it a banable offense.

    That is incorrect, the vrchat community standards are fairly specific:

    Quote

    Live-streaming, advertising or publicly sharing content that is sexually explicit in nature or simulates sex acts is not permitted.

    The wording is not an accident, it is intentional.

    just a consequence of the SL rendering engine not really having a concept for what is a "sharp edge" so it needs to have the edge and its vertices defined multiple times to break up the otherwise interpolated normals between the faces.

    When it comes to rendering there IS no such thing as a sharp edge, only two colocated vertices with different normal orientations.

    Modeling programs simply go with the assumption that modelers are not interested in the post-split vertex count, which will change constantly, but rather by the effective, total number of control points the model has.

  5. Typically, you want to avoid double siding your model if you can avoid it since it effectively doubles the polygon count just to add a surface that is barely visible.

    Unless you really cannot get around it, a good approach is to extrude the edge of sleeves (for example) into an inverted cone shape that will clip into the mesh body when worn, fill the gap, and give the illusion of an underside surface, at a fraction of the polygon count.

    Thanks, but I know this already and is repeated quite often enough, and completely ignores the valid reasons why some of us don't want to (without a solution provided) - eg. Making a building modularly with pieces in SL, and selling it as a build as a whole - but effectively with mod and copy becomes a building asset pack at a much lower price. This is because the end use of a building or home in it's entirety and it's price would greatly differ from a price if the same parts were advertised as a building asset pack. Of course this doesn't apply to all products and all things, but it does to many a thing. What say you on that matter?

    That's because literally no one is going to agree with your reasoning, so the subject will keep coming up again, and again.

    I would be kind of against allowing people to rename my objects, as they are named appropriately with the edition already, and don't really think this is a very needed feature. Are we going to see campaigns from people now "Don't buy from creators with no mod, no copy, no rename!" now too?

    Just sell your products as mod ^^

    Yes sometimes everyone forgets that we had to build with prims, and so 3 Li was reached even if only 6 blocks.. Now we can get fully detailed doors or even entire walls for 3 Li, but people demand low Li! This is probably where the problems arise and why people are kind of gaming the system as their customers demand it with such Li shortage :D (yet I can't believe 32 x 1024 textures won't have more impact than a 4800 tri 1m object - or a 320 tri 5m object ffs LL)

    Just because they demand it doesn't mean you are obligated to provide, they have desires, but you as the content creator know best on what is a reasonable expectation.

    Textures not being accounted in LI is a reflection of the "old days" of SL where Linden Lab simply did not care about anything but sim-side load, and since textures are ignored by simulators...

    Air gapping is no longer a factor the second you enter/transmit a code on/over a network or the internet.

    It is the equivalent of physically writing down a password/code for input later.

    Again, I and probably many, prefer options.

    By air gapping, I mean that unlike the email/MMS option, the token generator app approach means that the device holding the token generator can be completely offline, so long as its clock is somewhat accurate.

    mailboxes, mailservers, domain servers, phone numbers, in the right situation, can be hijacked.

    A device the attacker potentially has no way of accessing/spoofing? Not so much.

    Getting too realistic making anything can get boring, and there is a good argument (and probably sales data) to back it up that more stylized and less realistic forms of mesh creations are more popular. Also when we want 'realism' usually the texture sets have to be much larger and use more resources.

    Stylised also tend to hold the test of time a lot better.

  11. Just pick one body you like and make things for it. Stop trying to please everyone and try to enjoy what you are doing first and foremost.

    If people ask you "why don't you make things for body X" you can just tell them that you aren't making clothes for bodies that you do not use, and that they are allowed to have more than one body if they really want to wear your clothes.

    I know many designers whose work in gachas is just as good as anything they make; which, to me, suggests they have either the time and/or skill level to make quality things rather quickly and consistently. I truly hope those creators continue to make stuff, because I will continue to buy from them either in world or via the Marketplace.

    My admiration gets regularly shattered anytime I eventually learn that a prolific creator I used to admire is just buying models made by others, probably paying them well below minimum wage.
