  1. I continue to have crashing problems with the latest versions, even of Firestorm. Never had this before, even with my old Athlon quad. I run resource and task monitors and see phys mem below 20 pct usage, cpu load below 20pct, gpu load below 50 and lower temps and fan speeds than other apps like blue mars, win7 scores my system at 7+ out of 7.9 except for the hd, which is always the bottleneck. sometimes disk use spikes but not consistent. I have shut down several background programs after consulting task manager. I have updated drivers, windows and sl, consulted forums, even cleaned components in my box. And a full system freeze up still ends every single SL session, usually in less than 10 minutes. Intel i7 2600k, 8gb ram, radeon 5770 1gb,, win7 64
  2. Good observations - I updated Windows, still no solution, but then I updated my fraps (video recording) and the major hard drive spikes that were bringing me down went away. I appreciate the help on learning windows resource monitor, gpu-z and other important tools. Now, as usual, I will return to keeping-my-fingers-crossed-for-the-next-crisis mode!
  3. *screams* I have run several sessions using GPU-Z and it's baffling - the bipolar puter. SL at high, 1920X1080,ran firestorm for an hour (once i disabled beta lighting and shadows). GPU load < 50%, CPU temps < 60c, fan 2000 rpm tops (< 50% capacity) even recording with fraps barely bumped the indicators. Ran Blue Mars over an hour, high settings, 100% load, temps @ 70C, fan 60% @ 2500rpm, fraps also no problem. Next evening: Same backgrounds running, same spacenav, same GPU indicators as above - and Firestorm freezes system in 10 min, Blue Mars freezes with Fraps - like a different computer!!! GPU test a great idea - but that doesn't appear to be the problem. Other ideas would be most appreciated! Thanks!
  4. A freeze-up pattern started about a month ago, in which SL freezes up the entire system completely and a hard restart is required. There is no warning - I'm running at a decent fps and suddenly everything halts, even system sound. I have encountered this in several current viewers (latest S2, Kirsten and Phoenix), and only when running SL. The complete freeze suggests mem depletion. I have tried disabling VBO, shadows, and running at mid quality, all to no avail. This did not happen when I first upgraded my system in early May, and did not happenwith my previous AMD system running Win7 64 and the same gpu. I have gone thru recent Forum entries on crashes and freezes, but didn't recognize this specific pattern - does it sound like a current JIRA, and is there any indication of a Win7 problem specific to recent viewer releases? Any perspectives would be appreciated! Thanks. Win7 Home Prem 64 bit Sandy Bridge i7 2600k 3.4Ghz 8 GB RAM Radeon 5770 w 1.2GB vram
  5. I totally agree about slat, and it's YOU Medhue who brought slat to my attention. The more I learn how to use it the better it gets - the multiple-frame insertion, blending, individual axis selection - incredibly useful and fast compared to Qav, which eats hours and hours - if I knew diddly about coding I would try to update slat, it is so awesome. I have tried the reverse anim-export-import - bringing a slat hip-y-axis-zero anim into qavimator and the av is sunk thru the Q floor. The key reason I did that in the first place is the floor in Q is so useful for walks - do you find the slat marker feature comparable to a grid floor, which slat lacks? Q defaults at a y setting of 41, do you think that's it?
  6. At least I see some evolution in the tools for machinima - 3rd party viewers in particular are adding features that make it easier and more efficient. For avatar animation, by contrast, I have not seen a development or increase in support since the last open source update of qavimator in - when was it - 2008? Medhue if i recall correctly you still favor slat. So one of SL's most prolific animators uses an open source invention that has never been updated or supported by LL I know there are 3rd party anim softwares with SL export, such as dazs 3d etc, but it still surprises me that such an essential function has no support or development from LL. Whatever tool you use, the animator must know workarounds for SL defaults and such. Or am I overlooking some new initiative *crosses fingers and hopes so*?
  7. And after all, there's only one reason to pass money to an alt, and that's so the alt can buy something. Unless I'm missing some other riotously fun reason to hand money around . . .
