  1. It would be helpful if you could provide us with some more info. Type of PC, Operating System, CPU, RAM, Video Card installed.
  2. The GT-120 M is essentially a light NVidia 8600/9600. This should run the viewer without major issues but with limitations, although it is a bit dated... but then everything is dated by the time it hits the shelves. Video Card Info Reference: http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GT-120M.14953.0.html Performance Comparisons here: http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html Try using the viewer without any other applications running. If the viewer runs longer with no other applications running the clue taht gives you is that there is a memory leak. A memory leak occurs when the software is not managing the used memory properly and cleaning it up correctly. Ultimately the end result is that you run out of useable RAM to run the application causing a crash. Unfortunately, this does occur but developer's become aware of it fairly quickly and usually fix it. You should ensure that your Windows is fully updated, additionally, updating the video drivers to most current levels is also very important. Note that MS Corp updates these drivers through Windows Update but these are minimal updates to keep functionality. It's always best to update your Video Drivers directly from the manufacturer. go to http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us and select your video card & info from the pull downs OR alternately use Option 2 which will run a check and let you update if needed. EDIT: I did a little more digging and I found the NVidia 120 is within the GPU support table of the viewer code. It is supported and the Defaults to mid graphics settings. Basic shaders on by default. for reference: http://hg.secondlife.com/viewer-development/src/4982ab91ef6a/indra/newview/gpu_table.txt the current list of video cards handled by the viewer.
  3. Thanks for the ongoing votes / support to get the job done. These are the Functions which are presently missing from the official LL Viewer Script Editing function. The source text below comes from Cool Viewer current source code, other active TPV's are mostly current with Henri's work as far as I can see. code below has been tidied to make it easier to read for everyone. // Beta/Le Tigre server new functions "llScriptProfiler" "llGetSPMaxMemory" "llGetUsedMemory" // Server v11.08.10.238207 new functions: "llSetMemoryLimit" "llGetMemoryLimit" "llSetLinkMedia" "llGetLinkMedia" "llClearLinkMedia" "llSetLinkCamera" "llSetContentType" "llLinkSitTarget" "llAvatarOnLinkSitTarget" "llSetVelocity" // Server v11.09.09.240509 new functions: "llCastRay" "llGetMassMKS" "llSetPhysicsMaterial" "llGetPhysicsMaterial" // Server v11.10.18.243270 new function: "llManageEstateAccess" // Server RC magnum v11.10.31.244254 new function: "llSetKeyframedMotion" // Server RC Le Tigre v11.10.30.245889 new function: "llTransferLindenDollars" References: http://hg.secondlife.com/viewer-development/src/4982ab91ef6a/indra/lscript/lscript_library/lscript_library.cpp ( Current Viewer Source (as of this posting, will change as they update. ) http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Release_Notes/Second_Life_Server/11 Server Software release notes, updated as LL releases server to grid. 5. I have been maintaining updates for NotePad++, Geshi Highlighter and writing the viewer patches for a couple to add them in. LSLeditor is now also back to life & just released an update which will further be enhanced and updated now. Although I am also updating these for OSSL (OpenSim extended functions) and AA functions related to (Aurora-Sim added functions) as well. You may note that some of those functions have trickled back into SL. like llTeleportAgent. Votes = Action so everyone please vote to get LL to update & be current with the server releases. I would think it is embarassing a little that TPV's, OpenSim & Aurora-Sim are up to date with LL server compatibility while their own viewers aren't.
  6. Please vote to have the current Linden Labs viewers updated to match the new LSL features & functions as deployed on the servers. https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-28065 Thanks for taking the time to vote. This is a repeat of an identical post in the LSL sub-forum, just in case .

  8. I have switched back to using Cool Viewer for a number of reasons. The latest is mesh capable and extremely well done as Henri keeps on top of it and makes sure it's run's as well as possible, plus he fixes issues with lightning speed. It has V1 User Interface with a few options. The underlying mechanics (base code) is V3 with some optimizations which don't load down a client PC as some other viewers do. Additionally, a BIG + If you are a scripter he keeps Cool Viewer up to date with the latest developments that are implemented on the SL Servers. The LL official viewers have not updated any of the scripting info in their viewer since May of 2011 and there have been many additions & modifications to LSL since then. So if you are editing scripts and making new ones, many of the new functions are missing in the internal editor and you will get errors thanks to that... which as a scripter, that IS most annoying! You should also look into a RAM upgrade for your computer if you only have 1 gb, that just won't cut it in todays world and RAM itself is quite cheap now days.
  9. I suggest you have a look at Tigerdirect.com , Newegg.com and similar. They will ship to Alaska. With regards to using SLI with dual graphics cards. The Viewer software is not designed to make use of that capability at all (and yes I am a coder & patch viewers as well as OpenSimulator & other products... Been at it for far too many yrs proffessionally). That of course does not say that in the future the viewer software "may" have that ability but it's unlikely during the life-cycle of your new machine. See here for example: http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCategory.aspx?SubCategory=32&name=Laptops-Notebooks One thing, regadless of the laptop you choose... get a really good quality cooler pad to sit it on and having a larger excxternal LCD/LED screen makes a world of difference. (I use an I-inc 27" LCD monitor & it is worth every cent !) this one: http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4938558&CatId=3774 now discontinued but there are many others avail now, look in newegg to see for yourself. Under $300 and ohhh so sweet ! WS
  10. Hi Again, sorry for the delay in response. In regards as to why to stay away from AMD/ATI video cards... I could get into the long technical details but that would be too much to write and most likely no one really needs all the chatter on that. In a "Reader's Digest" version: When AMD bought ATI their engineers decided to make certain changes in favour of some specific optimizations for games. These optimizations are specifically targeted at those games and other optimizations are related to their hardware program. Their drivers after 11.5 are no longer fully complaint / compatible with the openGL standard & specifications. Linden Labs & TPV viewers resulting from LL code all use openGL. In simple terms, OpenGL is the "language & command system" that software uses to talk to the video card and manipulate it's functions & capabilities... AMD/ATI apparently have a plan to resolve that but it's not a standard that other vendors / manufacturers are willing to adopt as opposed to an accepted standard such as openGL. NVidia has always stayed true to open standards adoption and implementation and their drivers are always fully compliant with openGL and other specific standards. This means better & compatible support for applications across the board and a longer "product life span" which results in keeping more $$ in your pocket. 10 Years ago ATI was the cat's meow, now it's turning into the furrball we all love to hate. sorry, could not resist. A couple of others have also answered similarly and I hope that things are more clear now and I don't mean "clear as mud". LOL WS OH... PS: Asus is a fine quality kit with good support & solid history. I use Asus components in desktops and with the exception of 1 device (damaged during shipping) over 15 years that was made by ASUS, I have never once had any issues that could not be solved quickly & efficiently.
  11. I see that your in a situation where a laptop is your only option. I'm not 100% on which particular models do what... I use Desktop's only but my GF is a laptop'aholic The one KEY FEATURE that you should look for in any laptop is the ability to upgrade Video. They all have built in video, typically mounted on the motherboard. A few will allow an upgrade video card to be installed, which over rides the one on the motherboard. If you cannot locate one that allows the Video Card upgrade then just make sure that it has the NVidia Video card in it.... To that end, you should consider looking at "Gaming Class" machines and recently, troubles have been brewing in Dell Land yet again, so look at reviews on a particular model and see if there are any issues. I would recommend for longer life cycle, that you try ot get the fastest CPU, NVidia Video (prefferably upgradable) and at least 8GB of RAM. Unfortunately that makes it a bit more expensive to purchase but will give you the longest life span. Laptops are inherently expensive as heck to upgrade after the fact, compared to Desktops. Hope it Helps
  12. Avoid ATI video and stick with NVidia. The current V3 viewers have their video card definitions up to date and so there shoudl be no issues with SL... Third Party viewers vary a bit but most TPV's which are using V2/3 are good, and those with V1 interface that are fully Mesh Capable should also have the updated video card info. Hope it helps
  13. I assume that you are talking about two or more light fixtures with scripts. It's quite likely that the scripts in the lights are scripted for touches and when touched they send out "i was touched" message on a designated chat channel. Other fixtures with the same script would "hear" the message and act accordingly. In simple terms Listen for msg, when hear msg, If light = off then turn on, IF light on then turn off. The solution is to either modify scripts to not chat & listen and only respond to touch, or modify the script to listen to different channels (this could / would break home control systems etc....) This of course provided that you an modify the object & scripts contained.
  14. Notepad++ is an all around Swiss Army Knife of editors for pretty much any kind of language. The Editor itself is available from http://notepad-plus-plus.org/ I have just updated the NPP UserDefinition for LSL this morning in fact. It contains all the latest LSL as available in SecondLife as of 7 hours prior to this reply. This is available here: http://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net/commun/userDefinedLang/NPP_LSL_Language.zip a simple text file contained in the zip explains how to add the definition to NPP, really very simple. NB!! it also has the additional functions supported in Aurora-Simulator (AA & BOT functions) as well as the osFunctions used by both Aurora-Sim & OpenSimulator. Good Luck, Hope it Helps WhiteStar Magic
