  1. Waterhollow is a small community on the continent of Nautilus. We are located on the East side of the continent right off the Coastal Waterway. This let's you boat to hundreds of sims. Sail or cruise North to Corsica, East to the private islands of Seychelles and Blake Passage, South to the Blake Sea and many other private boatable sims too numerous to name here and to Satori's East, North and West coasts.

    Below is a screenshot of the parcels on our property (see below for current units available). There are 3 beach parcels on our property and 5 water parcels. The beach parcels are terraformed to give you approximately equal amounts of land and water. The 5 water parcels have been setup with a mesh island (with working physics). We've added some landscaping but we can remove that if you prefer to do your own thing. The landscaping we put down DOES NOT count towards your prim allotment. Check out our move in special for 1st time Waterhollow renters below!

    The problem is those making things for SL tend to use large textures that are not needed. Many do not understand how to optimize texture use. Many buyers do not know about the technical complications of what they are buying and so there is limited market pressure on builders to optimize.

    I'm not sure there is anyway for the Lab to compensate for builder's poor design... at least any more than they have.

    This might be helpful for comparing texture size and the memory used. For the life of me I don't remember where I got it from but whoever created it made a nicer version of this Texture Sizes SL Wiki

  11. It looks so much better in degree's since it correlates much better to the compass rose. I never would've thought of doing it that way. Well maybe not NEVER but it would've been a long time down the road. *grins*

    Thank you very much Rolig! You've taught me something new today.

  12. Hello - I've been going to the College of Scripting trying to learn lsl. I'm learning a lot but I've got a long way to go.

    I'm creating a HUD for sailing, that will chat the wind direction I want to change to, to the BWind engine in the sailboat. I'm using llDetectedTouchUV and I have all the vector coordinates for the HUD face. The HUD has the face of a compass on it and clicking on the N, NE, E etc will chat the command to the boat. It is working as is but I'm certain there must be a more efficient way of coding it than what I'm doing. I would be very grateful for any advice on how to do it more efficiently. I've pasted the code below. This snippet only checks for three compass points as the code is a bit long for all of them.

    default
    {
        touch_start(integer x)
        {
            vector Coords = llDetectedTouchUV(0);

            if(Coords.x > 0.43873 && Coords.x < 0.55831)
            {
                if(Coords.y > 0.81020 && Coords.y < 0.93204)
                {
                    llOwnerSay("n");
                }
            }
            if(Coords.x > 0.70976 && Coords.x < 0.82900)
            {
                if(Coords.y > 0.71769 && Coords.y < 0.83696)
                {
                    llOwnerSay("ne");
                }
            }
            if(Coords.x > 0.82074 && Coords.x < 0.94111)
            {
                if(Coords.y > 0.44054 && Coords.y < 0.56099)
                {
                    llOwnerSay("e");
                }
            }

        }
    }

  13. You don't necessarily need to turn off the public building Kate. People that want to leave building on can, as long as they don't leave Auto Return set to 0 (Auto Return disabled). I have water parcel on Nautilus and with the sailing in the area sometimes people lose their boats. I leave my parcel perms to allow everything but have Auto Return set to 5 minutes. That gives someone plenty of time to re-rez their boat and continue on their sail. My friends can keep their items from being Auto Returned as long as they rez under the parcel group name. The problem with many parcel owners is they don't understand how to set their parcel perms for their needs. Some over react and turn everything off or even worse put up banlines (along roads and waterways), which is just as bad as Anne Marie's scourge mobiles as far as I'm concerned.

  14. Great 2560 sqm parcel on the continent of Sansara (see yellow parcel markers for size). Currently about 70% of the parcel is above water level but the parcel can be terrafomed. Put up a nice home and go sail the open water and river waterways of Sansara from this lovely parcel. Great price L$20,999!

    The house, the rock landscaping and boat dock will transfer with the parcel. The exception is the waterfall as it's not my build and not transferable. The good news is...it's a freebie. I'll pass along the LM and help set it up if you like.

  15. Great example, works very nicely! I did strip out the script and it did keep moving. I'm going to leave the cube alone for a few days and see what happens. It didn't survive being taken into inventory and then rezzed again.

    Another noobie question coming. It follows along the same line of thought as removing the script. Assuming that the scriptless cube won't survive a sim restart , which event would have the least impact on sim resources. For instance once state_entry or touch_start do their job, do they still have an impact on sim resources?

    Thank you again for the info...it's been very helpful.

  16. I'm relatively new to scripting but created a script to simulate the up and down action of waves on an object, my case a navagational marker buoy.  I tried using llMoveTarget and llSetPos to simulate the up and down movement but I couldn't get it to look very smooth. I went to the College of Scripting in Horsa to play around with some of the examples (great place to learn by the way). I started playing with the llGroundRepel example and it looked like it could work for my needs. Anyway, the section within the Timer Event works but I'm pretty sure it's not very efficient. That's where I would be very grateful for any suggestions and/or comments any of you might have.

     Thanks!

  17. Hello Fabz! Another good place to go is College of Scripting Link. They have, I believe, 8 floors of examples. Basically they are boards with instructions and explanations of just about anything concerning scripting and then some. They have them in small, manageable chunks so it's easy learning. You can rez there, so you can try out the scripts right on the spot. Just rez a prim, add the new script and then type in whatever is on the board in front of you. Great stuff!! Hope this helps, good luck and happy scripting!

  18. Alicia is correct that starting with the floor is the first step, just like RL home building. Dora's link is great too! Adding a bit to that, I set my 'Units (meters)' in Grid Options to 0.025 this makes using the Building Grid that Torley talks about very precise. More importantly though, when setting your floor down make sure:

    1) That the floor is even in it's dimensions and evenly divisable by the Units setting above. Good = 10.00 x 20.00, 12.50 x 15.25 - Not so good 10.16 x 15.32. The later makes it very difficult to get nice flush joints.

    2) That the floors position (X, Y and Z) is set at an even amount as well. Again, divisable by the Units setting. You can always move the house after it's complete. Setting it up this way let's you snap most of the pieces flush against one another.

    Here is a great forum answer by Penny Patton about camera placement in SL. Forum Link  She gives some Debug Settings that really make a difference in world viewing, I use them. There are many other discussions about scaling in the forums as well. I hope this was somewhat useful. Good Luck!

  19. As I placed these around, I somehow always lost track of whether or not they where on or off, so I added a little extra code. I'm fairly new to scripting so it might not be the most efficient way. When the prim is green...the leveler is off. When the prim is red...the leveler is on.

    integer gON;default{    on_rez(integer startup)    {        gON = FALSE;        llSetColor(<0.0, 1.0, 0.0>,ALL_SIDES);    }    touch_start(integer num)    {          if (gON == FALSE)          {              llSetColor(<1.0, 0.0, 0.0>,ALL_SIDES);          }          else          {             llSetColor(<0.0, 1.0, 0.0>,ALL_SIDES);          }                  if (llDetectedKey(0) == llGetOwner()) //Only the owner can make this work        {            llSetTimerEvent(0.1*(gON = !gON));  //Toggle timer ON or OFF        }    }    timer()    {        llModifyLand(LAND_LEVEL, LAND_MEDIUM_BRUSH);    }}
