  1. I realize this thread is old, however it does appear to be the place to submit EEP with LSL feedback. I can currently set parcel media via LSL, and parcel music via LSL, along with many other parcel-level configuration (ban/allow, prim cleanup, etc etc) . I notice "about land" has an EEP section. I would like to set the default parcel-level environment via LSL. I do not want to have to set this /per agent/ via llReplaceAgentEnvironment , or llSetAgentEnvironment. I want to set this at the parcel or region level. I would rather avoid the trouble of forcing all visitors to accept a land experience permission just to set the default EEP for the parcel. Neither would I like to do an end-around this limitation by using heavyweight scripted viewer agents to manipulate the parcel settings. I understand that there are many good and interesting use cases for a per-user, experience driven EEP change. However, why isn't there a simple call for the parcel properties, for parcel owners? This would be simpler to set up and require far less script time or server resources than something that needs to inspect every visitor or uses scripted agents to set the parcel default, yes? This is a separate issue than the "can we enforce EEP" that has taken up much of the earlier part of the thread. In my particular case it is *ok* if visitors change the environment locally, I just want the parcel default to be set appropriately, at appropriate times, via LSL.
  2. @ Comparisons with 3.0.1 / lag Tthere's no real difference in rendering between FS 3.0.1 and FS 3.2.1, just let the cache fill up and inventory download and you'll be fine. The first times people run a new release viewer, there is usually crushing lag as your inventory has to fully download from scratch and your texture cache is completely empty. This situation usually resolves once the cache and inventory catches up. So, try Firestorm 3.2.2 first, it works best for most systems. Try 3.2.1 if you experience rendering issues with water, or similar. There's no reason to stay on FS 3.0.1. @JJ You don't have to run Firestorm full screen, the window resizes fine.
  3. Since there haven't been any official posts, I thought I'd throw one in as Firestorm's development lead. For those who were not aware, the Phoenix/Firestorm Team released the Firestorm viewer a few days ago. Right from the login screen, it can be configured to run in a V3 mode with Starlight skins, a V1 mode similar to Phoenix Viewer, and a hybrid mode that contains a blend of both. The viewer is highly customizable and configurable, with 3x the options of the standard viewer. It has a number of tools for builders that are not in the standard viewer. It supports both pie and rectangle context menus, and both solid and high-transparency looks. It contains a number of user contributed skins and color schemes. It contains a wide array of additional windlight presets, as well as system to automatically set your windlight presets on particular parcels. It checks your spelling. It lets you place notifications and popups in various parts of the screen. It has a much richer radar than the standard client. It has a radar that is accurate far beyond your draw distance, even very high in the air. It lets you double-click teleport within regions correctly, even in places where the standard viewer can have problems. It contains optional remote scripting support for scripters or RLV users. It has recent LL features such as mesh rendering, mesh upload, multiple clothing layers, depth of field, and has a very high framerate. It has inventory loading performance improvements not found anywhere else. It contains an amazing built in AO and flight assist. It has sophisticated chat alerts, radar alerts, and a macro/autocomplete system. It puts a number of handy rendering controls quickly at your disposal. It has built in anti-spam and anti-lag features. It can remember more than one user/password combination at a time. I'm just scratching the surface. In general, it's absolutely packed with community developed features. We believe we've delivered on the goal of providing a viewer that has the vast aray of community features developed over the last few years, blended with the latest LL viewer technology. We hope you give it a look, and if/when you have questions, you'll check out the comprehensive online documentation and user support group, the largest (and we believe finest) viewer support team in-world. Firestorm's general release comes in two flavors, a 3.2.2 version with cutting edge rendering code, and a 3.2.1 version with older but more compatible in some cases rendering code. We recommend you try 3.2.2 first, and download 3.2.1 if you have graphical trouble on your system. For more information, check out my signature. Give it a try and see if it improves your enjoyment of SL. If you have questions, the very best place to get answer is the in world group "Phoenix-Firestorm Viewer Support" or the online wiki documentation. Thanks! - Arrehn
  4. Because we heavily use the Viewer3 core rendering technology, if LL Viewer3 doesn't run well on your system, Firestorm probably won't either. The linux we test on is Ubuntu 10.10, 32bit, and Fedora Core 15, 32bit. All other distributions are less well supported, your luck may vary. Hope this helps! -A
  5. This is just a quick note because I haven't seen it as a thread here yet. The non-profit Phoenix/Firestorm Viewer Project has released a new public beta of the FIrestorm Viewer with mesh display support, along with a truckload of new features and bugfixes earlier this week. FIrestorm is a registered third party viewer for Second Life tracked on Linden Lab's wiki registry: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Third_Party_Viewer_Directory This release brings a few more firsts to viewer technology, including an method of organizing your friends into groups, designed by LordGregGreg Back. There are a number of known issues with the LL 3.0.x tree that Firestorm is using that affect some popular video cards at the moment. However if you are able to run LL's viewer, Firestorm should work well for you. We hope you'll try it out and find something to enhance your SL experience. Thanks, -Arrehn
  6. You can use the preferences to easily change this behavior to one you would prefer: Preference: Chat: Pressing letters keys: () Starts local chat (*) affects movement Firestorm has many, many more preferences and customization available than V2, allowing you to tune it to the style of viewer you best prefer. Thanks, -A
  7. There are reasons to jump on Firestorm right now if you're coming from phoenix. Some of the hightlights are: - Vastly improved viewer AO - Favourite landmarks bar - Ability to wear multiples of the same clothing layer (ie, two tattoos, two shirts, etc) - Better shadows - KDU texture decoding (more accurate sculpties, faster texture rezzing) - More media options, including native flash - Signed code (So you can prove it's from us vs. a spoofed source), less antivirus trouble. - Ability for notices to save across logins - Easy access to the new beta search - More crash protections - Script management landowner UI - More reliable inventory loading There's a few other minor things as well. One of the other reasons to try Firestorm is: "Viewer1 protocols are already starting to break, why not try something built for the future?".
  8. Rolig Loon wrote: and the Notes page in personal profiles is inaccessible From my own testing the notes page in profiles works fine for other people's profiles, at least on the Metaharper and Firestorm skins. The one that is not available is notes on your own profile page.
  9. Yes, there's an align tool. Although we're labelled it "Beta", it's competitive with the stability of LL and other third party viewers. We're giving it the "Beta" tag because there's some Phoenix features it does not have. However, compared to the official V2 client, it's already at release quality.
  10. If you are a fan of the wide array of in-world content creation tools provided by community SL viewers such as Phoenix, you can now use them on the Firestorm viewer. Firestorm is the first V2-based viewer to offer the full complement of community build tools. These tools are bundled with the free "Firestorm Public Beta 2" community viewer, released Jul 5th. Enjoy!
  11. If you look at the viewer directory list: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Third_Party_Viewer_Directory They list the major SL viewers in order of least crashes Phoenix 1102 is always one of the most stable viewers, and over the last few months it's frequently been above LL's recent viewers. If it's crashing for you, chances are that it's something about your configuration, not the viewer itself.
  12. There's different cam controls on different skins, so feel free to experiment and find the one you like the best.
  13. Perrie Juran wrote: I don't know if Firestorm has it but I totally love the 'auto respond to IM' feature in Phoenix. I find that the simple "sorry if I don't reply right way but I'm busy doing whatever " works wonder's and it doesn't screw up other functions like "busy mode" does. Firestorm does have an autorespond mode that works without placing you into away or busy status. It's very useful!
  14. Phil Deakins wrote: I've never looked at Firestorm and I won't look until the cam controls are very much like the V1 cam controls; i.e. translucent when not in focus, moveable, and small. Has that been done in Firestorm? Yes, this has been the case for a while. You should really look! Firestorm has all the features of V2 + a whole ton of improvements and options from Phoenix, plus many of its own innovations. Firestorm has the best viewer AO on the grid! Check out some fo the feature list at: http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/doku.php?id=firestorm_2.5.1.16671public_beta_release_notes_6_14_2011 The public Beta release is stable. We're calling it Beta because not every Phoenix feature has been ported yet, there are still many to go. On the stability side it's currently ranked by LL second amount all third party viewers, second only to V1 Phoenix.
  15. Have you tried the Firestorm Beta? The sidebar is optional and all the tabs have been moved to the the bottom bar as optional, moveable buttons.
  16. SL Users, we need your help! A few new features have been proposed for the Firestorm community viewer for Second Life(tm). These proposed features have stirred some debate and we've decided to ask for greater feedback from the SL community. Based on the popularity of the other community viewers we've created, we believe these features will have an impact on your SL experience regardless of what viewer you currently use. Many of the issues are social interactions, and are not just about technology. This is why this post is in this forum, and not the technology forum. Please fill out this survey if you have time! http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/ZKPT7Z8 If you want to know more about the Firestorm community viewer for Second Life, which is registered and listed with Linden Lab, you can read more here: http://phoenixviewer.blogspot.com/2011/06/firestorm-public-beta-has-arrived.html
  17. Just a heads up that there's a very large feature list in Firestorm. A list of features added beyond the V2 defaults can be found here: http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/doku.php?id=firestorm_2.5.1.16671public_beta_release_notes_6_14_2011 .. and more are coming every week.
  18. Don't forget to check out http://www.phoenixviewer.com/ for all kinds of information related to Firestorm such as documentation, classes, in world support, full list of features, etc. Firestorm is not the same as LL's 2.5.1 at all, don't confuse our version numbers with LL's! Firestorm is a highly advanced viewer, offering a number of features not found in any V2 to date, such as built in animation override control, instant-on voice microphone behavior, advanced avatar radar, area search, advanced inventory management, and a gazillion other conveniences that you soon wonder how you lived without. Firestorm also has LL's latest search built in, which far surpasses the standard viewer 2 search. Have fun and be sure to give your thanks to the volunteers in the "Phoenix-Firestorm Viewer Support" in-world group who make it happen.
  19. This is probably obvious.. but it would be ideal to have these kinds of engines available in a more integrated, immersive way inside the SL viewer, so all things related to LL can be in one high-tech place, without having to switch.
  20. Facebook is the best place to find out about cool things going on in Second Life, share ideas, and get the inside scoop on inworld events, contests, machinima releases, PR activities, fun discussions, and more. When I read this I felt a strong disconnect with this statement. I didn't join SL to be part of Facebook! When I want to find out new information in SL, I use: - Content on the SL website - Messages on the SL viewer whent I log in - Email sent by LL to me - Open blogs that don't require you to sign up to browse content Facebook isn't on this list and really has no place on this list. I shouldn't have to join up with some 3rd party network to find out information about second life, when LL can just tell me directly. I have no interest in joining facebook and "liking" anyone's page.
