  1. I have not read this entire thread so if this has been asked I apologize.

This acquisition is subject to regulatory approval. One part of the approval process is gathering public comment.

If you oppose this what would you say to the regularity authority?

I don't think "It threatens my Second Life presence" would fly very well.

And if LL did not see that this would scare the bejesus out of its users, that is its Customers, it boggles my mind.

They need to explain how this will affect the Lindex. Any negative affect on the Lindex could destroy the SL economy. The overall stability of the Lindex has been key in SL's survival. Will LL suddenly have to but $L from Thune to fulfill my weekly premium bonus??????

  2. Merchants have begged for years for the list of words that in a description would cause an item to get an adult rating and LL has refused to release leaving Merchants with the task of trial and error to find the offending word.   Back in the day of standard sizes they could not use XXX to describe a size.  XXX in a listing would get a Burka an adult rating.

You get the worst (market) price that way, paying more and giving LL extra income

You do not give LL extra income. You are not buying $L from LL. While LL administers the Lindex, buying and selling $L are user to user transactions.

E.g., Merchant wanting to cash out sells their $L on the Lindex. You, wanting $L to spend In World then buy them for cash.

But you do get a better rate with Limit Buy, that there is no question.

  4. I really do miss Torley Linden. Years ago he wrote in another thread in the Forums:

"In my head, I've long heard varied voices that inform my life choices. They span a rich spectrum of genders, races, etc. It was only natural that I express them as avatars — earlier, I used the term "Torley Council", or there's that joke from some Residents, that when they see me, they go "It's a Torley!" Hahahaha.

I have a very strong female voice that emerges here. She encourages me to be more sensible and explanatory (I used to be terse and not all that social), and it feels 1000% natural to me. Not having that would feel strongly repressive, and so with SL as an outlet — or whatever you want to call it — I've been able to unify my personality and feel a lot healthier in both lives as a result.

It is a difficult thing that, while life in general appeals to a diversity of people, many people's interests are in conflict. This is also true in Second Life, and I continue to be a proponent of responsible disclosure in relationships that matter to you. On top of that, there's insecurity that people keep hidden, not to mention jealousy and other "demons" that drag someone down from acknowledging and living the life THEY really want... in the process they become control freaks trying to prevent OTHERS from feeling fulfilled, as Darrius initially mentioned.

The psychology of it intrigues me deeply. I just hope more people can come inworld and use Second Life as a tool of confronting hangups and dealing with their baggage, so they have healthier relationships with others. Not growing means not really living."

    TPV approved

    From:   https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Third_Party_Viewer_Directory

Linden Lab does not give approval to any Third Party Viewers. The viewers in the directory self-certify that they are in compliance with the Lab's policies on Third Party Viewers. Should a TPV be found not in compliance, depending on the nature of the violation, LL will take appropriate measures up to and including removing that Viewer from the Third Party Directory.

We all use these Viewers at our own risk.

  6. Just for reference I posted that link to Investopedia because I saw some things here that were more guesses than based on fact. I used to have links to the FinCen rulings on Linden Dollars but sadly lost them all when a hard drive deep six'd on me and I never recovered them

    among many other links.

From my observations it is a very small percentage of SLer's who have any understanding of how the Lindex works.

These days many people use a "VPN" for protection against malicious content on the web,

Any one who thinks that a VPN does this has been lulled into a false sense of security.

As a matter of fact bad actors have been known to use VPN's to mask their origin.

    LOD6.

    LOD of 6???????????????

I think you need to learn what LOD is and how it works.

And quite frankly, anything that requires a LOD setting over 3 in order to render correctly is nothing but pure garbage that needs sent to the Gehenna and the creator banned to the corn field until they learn how to properly create mesh objects.

  9. While revaluing the Linden Dollar might improve peoples realization of the value of goods and services I fear the horse may be too far out of the barn. How would you apply it to the Market Place? And the monumental task of Merchants having to reprice everything in their stores, redoing hundreds and thousands of images.

And I would question tying the value of the $L to bitcoin. They are just too volatile.

And on a bit of a side note, the way Phillip Rosedale set up the Lindex has been a boon for all of us because $L function as a currency and not a commodity.

I do agree people have to get a better appreciation of the value of the goods and services in SL.

  10. I  can't speak about other viewers though I imagine they would have the same function. In Firestorm you would right click > share and then a name picker opens and you can select multiple Avatars. Now I had heard there was a limit of twenty you can share with at once but according to https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Limits

"Maximum number of accounts that an inventory item can be shared with at once: The limit is unknown, but tests show that it is more than 35. No documentation has been found. One third-party viewer developer says that the code doesn't seem to look for a limit. It just builds the list and sends it to each avatar individually"

  11. Exactly what files are you wanting to move?

Outside of chat files if you save those and custom auto complete if you use that and possibly teleport history there would be nothing else you'd need to move.**

I would be skeptical about moving custom graphics settings to a completely different machine. Those I would build from scratch considering that PBR just went live.

You can not move saved credentials. That is a security feature. Credentials are tied to the machine they are created on.

**Others can way in if there are any other files that are only saved locally that I am not thinking of at the moment.
