  1. I have a tipsy fish who's happy to give people rides.
  2. Something like grass really needs to be modifiable so the dimensions can be altered to suit the space. I wouldn't look at no mod landscaping items long enough to consider whether or not I might want to retexture it so your texture packs would be wasted on me. Meanwhile, if the item offers versitility so I can adjust it to suit my needs, I'll start checking out its LOD fall-off. This isn't a hypothetical situation for me as I've been searching for a wildflower borders and meadows for my Linden Homes camper site this last week. There's an overwhelming amount to choose from so eliminating things like no-mod from an MP search is necessary to try to narrow it down. Then inworld stores to look at the LODs. I ended up putting out some heather that came as a free gift from one of the stores. Decent LODs but there was too much white in the textures for the overall setting. I can't change the Linden landscaping of course, so I thought the heather was strictly temporary and was using it to experiment with dimensions and placement. A friend was over last night, complained mightily about it and told me to give it a bit of a grey tint. They blend in much better now. I'm still looking for something else, but it's an example of why it's so important to let people tint. You don't know what other textures people will want to use it around. You don't know what windlights they use or how their computer and graphics card affects what they see. There is no way to make enough texture packs to meet all uses so why restrict potential customers in hopes of squeezing more money out of a few?
  3. The norm seems to be the setting where you can't see avatars unless you're on the parcel, and then security orbs to restrict who can get onto the parcel. You're more likely to not see anyone at all, just some green dots, than to happen onto immoderate actions. You're welcome to hang out at my camper for as long as you want to get a feel for it. I think the covenant helps with a lot of what you might be seeking to avoid.
  4. Move over Matty. I'm only 10 and a half, a veritable babe in arms here
  5. Have you heard Cariad Lloyd's podcast Griefcast? She lost her father at 15, so early in her life she become someone people would talk to about their own losses and now she talks regularly with other comedians about their experience(s) with death and grief. She does the podcast so people know they're not alone. I can't recommend it highly enough. Wishing you comfort and healing x
  6. There was a teen grid many years ago. Others will remember the details better but I think it was closed because of relative lack of use. There were also issues like rampant copy-botting from the main grid, and since it was only accessible by teenagers, the over 18 creators couldn't get in to file DMCAs to get the stolen items removed. If I'm remembering right, closing it down was part of the impetus for Zindra. By family accessible, do you mean RL family members?
  7. Maybe we're getting somewhere now. You believe wrong. I wasn't disingenous. If you'd said that directly, we could have gotten further in this conversation before you shut it down. It might have been good. May I be permitted to say that your way of letting me know you didn't want to talk about it was rather confusing and apparently misleading? Surely the point of communicating is to understand each other and be understood in turn. I'd like both with you. My opinion is that those who want to see this happen can do more than speak up. LL is aware of the desire, that's clear from the pains they took in their post around the matter of adult content. They've chosen where they want to be and they have the right to do so. As in all other aspects of sex and sexual expression, consent is crucial. They don't want to go there. There's room for something outwith official channels though. You know the adage, be the change you wish to see, that's applicable here as well. A well-done blog or website about positive and healthy sexual expression would be useful for promoting those values. Something like that, especially if it's in conversation with others, is a way to help move attitudes forward.
  8. Are we friends now, that you're using the shortened version of my name? Or is that just another way of having a dig at me? Yes, it's a silly name. It was a long ago joke only one other person in the world was ever going to get and it made him laugh long and hard. If I'd known then what my slife would become, I would have chosen something different. But that's a common enough story. Why did I comment? I made an observation and a suggestion and then I replied to a post directed to me. The first was because we're here to read and talk, so I threw my thoughts out there. The latter was because it was directed to me. The topic does matter to me. Why do you assume it doesn't? In short, I think it's generally good to explore and encourage healthy sexual attitudes and I'm in favour of people doing that. So yeah, I like the idea of people joining together to look at these sorts of things. I also recognise that there's a time and place for anything to do with sexual expression. LL's decided where their boundary on that is and I'll respect it. I'm happy to have different opinions on this. There's plenty of room for both of ours and everyone else's. Ideally, we might have some sort of conversation and come to understand each other's points of view better. Then we both learn and the world is a slightly better place for it. Since we're talking, why the dismissive digs like "what helps you sleep at night"? What's the point in saying things like that? I am genuinely curious why you do it.
  9. If you think I'm a hater Beth, you truly do not understand me. I have no interest in being mad at you though, so if that's what you're after, I'm afraid I'll have to disappoint you. It was a friendly suggestion, no hate involved whatsoever. Does it truly matter if an erotic blog network can't be promoted on official SL channels? If you want something, value it and can't find it elsewhere, make it yourself or join with others to combine complementary skills. The ability to do so has always been the heart of SL. The blog network guidelines are similar to the forum guidelines; there's plenty of space on the internet for those who want to promote healthy eroticism in SL to do so. You don't need SL's blessing, permission or recognition. That's all. P.S. Thank you for pointing out my typo up there .
  10. It seems like content guidelines for the Blogger Network are similar enough to content guidelines for the Forums here. How is that a problem? Maybe those who want to promote a healthy SL eroticism angle can make their own blogs and network? I gather some of that exists on Flickr already.
  11. Do you know about the beta grid yet? Free uploads on quiet sandboxes, very useful for the constant trials and errors of making good mesh for SL. About the ears - would a head alpha (or alpha cuts) work?
  12. Either the Smooth button in the Shading area of the Tools window in Object mode in Blender for overall, or the Smooth/Flat ones in the UV tab in Edit mode if you want to be more selective. This piece should be fine with the Object mode one.
  13. I didn't see that, I would have supported you there. It's getting some support here, so please share in it.
  14. Maybe a way to do this would be to have a rotating area for historic builds, changing quarterly perhaps. Then it could be an interesting place to visit, not lost forever, and would also allow more builds to be saved while keeping operating costs manageable.
  15. Leave it unlinked and phantom and use transparent prims to replace the physics you need (a ramp if there are stairs involved). That really is the easiest and best solution at this point. So sorry you got burnt by a poor creator. Good luck with your project.
  16. How much of an improvement mesh bodies might be depends on things like how much of your skin you have showing and what graphics settings you tend to use. When graphics are low, all those dozens of faces on the mesh body can do weird things with lighting. If you're wearing long trousers, it truly does not matter if you have air-brushed smooth legs underneath. And so on. My boy alt tends to wear trousers and long sleeves so why carry all that extra geometry around just to have it alphaed out? Mesh clothing over a system body with alphas (not alpha cuts) is my prefered way to go. They've fallen out of favour with those who spend lots of money and thus with those who sell, but it's a good inbetween and not as complicated as the whole HUD & alpha cut routine. (Alpha cuts are all those tiny faces on a mesh body that get made transparent; a clothing alpha is a single piece worn on the system body under a mesh garment. You'll be wearing a full body alpha under a mesh body to make the system one invisible.) My health and stamina are lousy, so every extra minute I spend trying to get dressed is less time I have to do more important things like talk with friends. The building alt got a mesh body so I could have bento hands on the beta grid but otherwise it's more trouble than it's worth to me. Even when I have both my building alt and main in summer dresses, I don't notice one being nicer than the other (unless of course the lighting is being glitchy and the mesh body shows up patchy). The whole mesh body eco-system has complicated shopping no end as well, but that's just part of slife now. I think we've lost more than we've gained with this.
  17. Definitely the Winchester of the campers. It's big too, so it can make a neighbouring space feel more closed in. I really hope people get bored with it or at least come up with ways to vary it. The Moles have done a fantastic job of creating variety in their landscaping and here residents are going Same Same Same.
  18. Really best to ask her to demo. Thwarts the surprise I know, but it helps. She can also look at the overall quality (texture work, make sure the complexity is reasonable) as well as the fit.
  19. Marketplace and most inworld clothing vendors allow gifting, chose the gift to option from the menu and it will ask for the name of the account you wish to gift it to. If an item you already own is transferable, you can send it to the person inworld directly. As for lending, there's absolutely no way you can guarantee that a transferable item will be returned. Whether you get it back or not depends on the other person. If you gift-buy something that is "no transfer", they simply will not ever be able to return it. Once it's in that person's inventory, they own it and are able to wear it just as they would with something they've purchased for themselves.
  20. K, if male system avs had built in ding a lings, system trousers would have been painted over said system ding lings. And because that would have looked weird, we would have had a period of invis*****prims.
  21. Take a look at your system feet and then tell me you want your manhood represented by something similar....
  22. Tari, you're not one of the people who often laughs at those they're disagreeing with. There are a few who do, and the negative tone of the response is clear. A couple in particular will go through and laugh at pretty much everything those they're disagreeing have said, even when the subject's changed. What you do is very different. I certainly can see the difference and I'd wager most of the regulars do as well. You don't fall into that pattern of laughing at someone you're locking horns with over several pages of a thread.
