You are quite wrong.  SL Machimima is alive and well.  Try looking for AView TV, SL Artist, and SL Machinima on Vimeo to name a few.   :-)

The fixed function has been deprecated for some time, and Second Life has relied on compatibility profile OpenGL contexts for many rendering operations. Many GL implementations no longer support the fixed function at all, and that number will grow rapidly in the future. It is imperative that the viewer be capable of running outside of a compatibility profile context.

[Good news for nVidia card users and Viewer 3/Firestorm]

There is a Beta version of the newest driver available at nVidia site, and It seems to work smoothly and well for me, using Viewer 3 as well as Phoenix Firestorm Beta-Mesh.  It is Version 285.27 beta.   I have a GEForce GTX 460 nVidia card, fyi.

Just download and install!

I have that same graphics card and the same problem.  It's apparently some problem with the newest SL update.  I suggest reverting to the previous graphics driver (version 275.33), and logging in at the very Lowest settings, then increase them when you have been in-world a few minutes.  That seems to work for me anyway.

I am referring to Shared Media on a Prim... Not the "About Land" media settings. LOL, I don't understand why there is this confusion with land media. Am I not being specific enough?
