Yes the biannual LL drive-by QA session has now concluded. Thank you everyone, see you in 6 months. (If we are still here)

The concern is that they can cause more harm than good to someone inworld that has actual real life issues with depression, suicide, whatever... That sort of person may think they are getting actual help and advice from a professional when it is actually all roleplay on the side of the person playing. So as good as your intentions sound, there is no way of verifying your credentials unless you choose to give out real life info. I don't recommend handing out real life info. Best of luck! Cinn Just had a look at the profile Cinn and it is barren for someone who has been here 9 months. No 'real' professional specialty to speak of just a vague reference to counselling psychology. Are you familiar with the laws of California regarding practising without a license? New York? Maybe we should provide a link. PS It must be nice to have so much time after spending over $250,000 getting the degree etc and then do pro bono work here in SL. lmaooooooooooo

I have been exploring and making some new friends, and I absolutely love it. I hope I am posting this in the correct area. I was searching the forums among other places and wondering if self help is a big area here in SL? Are there such things as therapy, counseling, etc. in SL? Group sessions, private sessions? I haven't been able to find much, and I was curious. I also wanted to invite anyone to contact me in any way (IM, reply to this threat) if you are interested in friendship, chatting, or any kind of communication with me. I am a psychologist in RL and I explain a bit more about my specialty in my profile. I am not necessarily seeking to "make money" here in SL but I think it would enhance my experience here to be able to do what I love in world, if anyone would be interested in utilizing my services. If not, I'd just be happy chit chatting and getting to learn more about SL! Any feedback would be appreciated! Thank you! Laiken Then you may start by providing your real name, professional credentials, ie the licensing body to which grants you permission to practise in New York and their website where we can go and look to see whether you are a member in good standing, your educational background and the name of your insurance company that will be handling any malpractice suits.

Alec - to think they would be singing "All things bright and beautiful, all creatures great and small" In keeping with the multi-cultural diversity of the city the services are polydenominational. The liturgy can last for hours. I believe Rob Ford did the eulogy, as a fellow night crawling weasely varmint.

They get confused when they dont see it, which annoys them. their own confusion annoys them more than the impreciseness they see. apparently. So they project their annoyance onto others, as the cause of their annoyance. Objection! Counsel has no way of knowing what anyone actually 'feels'. Even if the person declares their emotional state the preponderance is that they may be lieing, therefore any such declarations are deemed to be unreliable. Additionally, counsel has no way of knowing what is going through the mind of new users when they enter the Forum. The statements are less than speculation, more akin to wishful thinking designed to sway the minds of the mod team. Further, free advice is worth exactly what you pay for it.

  16. Gadget Portal wrote: It doesn't matter if we like the flag or not. Anyone has the right to fly any flag they'd like. In any country. But here in the United States, we have a pretty specific document that protects that right. It doesn't matter if it's a Confederate flag, a Swastika, the KKK's white robes, or what- we all have the right to like or dislike it as we choose. So we can each personally choose to not display it (or in the case of retailers, not sell it)- but banning it is out of the question. Personally, I dislike the flag. But I fully support anyone's right to display it. And further, if LL does try to ban it, I'll be one of the ones to fight that decision. That document does not apply here. Section 1 of the CS does. Intolerance Combating intolerance is a cornerstone of Second Life's Community Standards. Actions that marginalize, belittle, or defame individuals or groups inhibit the satisfying exchange of ideas and diminish the Second Life community as a whole. The use of derogatory or demeaning language or images in reference to another Resident's race, ethnicity, gender, religion, or sexual orientation is never allowed in Second Life. Freedom of speech and what you think are your 'Rights' are an illusion here. LL dictates at their whim what goes on and what is allowed. In fact, if you notice, the statement is self-contradictory in that on the one hand it encourages "satifying exchange of ideas" but only if you aren't being a meanie, in which case you will be eradicated. And just to add, usually reported on by one of your community members who have no regard for what you consider to be your 'Rights'. And in that regard, what goes on in the real world follows much the same path. You only have the Right to do whatever someone in power tells you you have the Right to do or say. And if your neighbour becomes envious of you and covets your new 60 inch TV then you can expect the police to kick down your door at 3 am and haul your ass off for interrogation. Stop deluding yourselves.
  17. For many outside the US, and probably for some within as well, the flag is seen 'innocently' as a "Rebel Banner".

You have: a stolen holiday, a sybmbol of equality and love, and a countries flag. And you Godwin'ed the thread with your first post. I disagree... it's not a Godwin when it's a fair comparison. ...Dres Do you really think Nazi Germany = Southern CSA? It is a totally disproportionate analogy. I am not a southerner, but I never made the leap to equate the two. Probably because you're white? You are being obtuse. And intimating that because a person may be white that they cannot discern the obvious differences between the two without being biased.

My personal opinion will not change though and yes, i will always derender and mute people wearing nazi stuff .. even if its only for the fun I am german btw and was educated and do educate that the following generations do not forget and Hooligans don't get the upper hand. We're in agreement then Conall. As, I also take it serious. I just don't use the same means. The links I've posted in this thread to comedy skits, and movies, are from RL culture. The scene from, "Oh Brother Where Art Thou", with the KKK, is a parody with great comedic effect. It recreates the scene from Wizard of Oz, where the Tin Man, Scarecrow, and Cowardly Lion masqurade as soliders to infiltrate the Wicked Witches's castle. Brillant! *laughing* In real life people can "derender", or take away the power of evil through comedy. From Charlie Chaplins' "The Great Dictator" making fun of Hitler, to modern era, Mel Brooks' "History of the World, Part 1", where torture is parodied, acknowledging evil through comedy, is a way for humans to come to grips with it. This acts as a psychological means for us to scorn evil. One of my favorites is a scene from the comedy, "The Producers", the scene is called, "Springtime for Hitler". Absolutely hilarious! Here's some reading that explains: "One of the first government actions in Nazi Germany was the establishment of a law against treacherous attacks on the state and party that made anti-Nazi humor an act of treason, and there was a reason for this. Research has shown that humor is the most effective means of preventing the indoctrination of brainwashing." http://psychcentral.com/blog/archives/2010/03/02/the-hidden-power-of-humor/ This also explains why the powers that be here continue to delete and sanction me for my parodies of LL, their minions and spineless shills.

Some people are dyslexic and have reall difficulty spelling, while others might have poor eyesight or restricted finger movement which makes typing difficult. And then there are people for whom English is not their main language. So there are lots of reasons for excusing less than perfect typing. But just to say that you type too fast and so make lots of mistakes. I make mistakes too, but I bother to go back and correct them before posting - or at lleast i do modt of teh time. All the examples you gave excusing poor posting style and inconsideration attributed to or of an inherent nature can all be rectified with the use of a little care before hitting the 'post' button. People with real deficits are still able to use spell check or an editor. But for the most part a rare typo or misconstructed sentence is not the end of the world.

Canada has strong hate speech and hate crime laws. but our laws are based on the end result. You can wear a shirt with a swastika on it. But if you cause harm to someone based on the your belief in the what the sybol stands for you will be proscecuted. So you can wear a shirt that says i hate gays. But if you harm one and they find that shirt you will be charged with hate crime. Simplistic.
  25. Welcome to my world Dillon. I find it amusing to fill in various substitutes for the bleeped words. Funny though you haven't earned the 'fascist' or 'Nazi' moniker yet. Someone should make a rank for that for use here in the forums. (Who was it who did that when Lithium first started anyway?) At least you weren't suspended for providing the help for the indolent.
