What if they formed a consortium and deliberately made their viewers so that they would no longer connect to SL and only to InWorldz instead? That might be enough to give InWorldz some serious traction against SL. Unfortunately the likes of InWorldz and Avination will only get a huge influx of new accounts.....once Second Life are dead and buried (Closed). None of the OS Grid operators have the infrastructure to cope with a huge influx of new users......they would probably need outside financing to scale upwards.

Why a child avi in area of question They can change and go to m or even adult sims why stay as child avi ? Children are a big part of life agreed But who lets their Children run wild or takes them to places that are inappropriate for Children ? STOP FOOLING YOURSELVES If you find it necessary to look like a child in a questionable area M or A ( not g as intended ) you have lost touch with reality or are looking for trouble of somekind AS you are an adult use adult brain I agree that Child Avatars should not be venturing on Adult region sims....regardless if they are age verified or not....i don't agree with Mature regions (the vast majority of Sims).....most of my Sims are Mature and have very little adult content on them.(residential or commercial)...in that instance Child Avatars are as safe as they would be on PG sims. An adult Avatar wanting to be involved in RP child abuse scenes....will invariably hang out on PG sims and lands where they are more likely to find their targets.

There's none so intolerant as those intolerant of intolerance... ....so you've managed to trot out the over-used stale quote. :matte-motes-sour: I have no doubt there are the odd potential RL child sex offender within SL......there are no pychological tests at the stage of creating an SL account....so god knows what type of person hides behind any SL Avatar. I've reported 4 suspicious cases during the last 5 years to LL.......funnily enough they were all adult Avatars making enquiries about child avatars and where they hang out yadda yadda. The dialogue exchange provided me enough evidence of a potential threat.....and hence submitted the material to LL. The point is that there are a few that flout the LL TOS and the more serious cases like "Wonderland" ought to be reported to the local Police, but one should not tar the entire Children community with the same brush......that part is very narrow minded imo.
  5. Not all kid avatars use "baby speak" though. I've been running businesses and sim rentals for years now......and when conducting a business transaction with a Child Avatar, they rarely use "baby speak" Do you know know how many SL families there are in SL? ....1000's! They reside all around the Grid on PG or Mature residential sims. I know tons of adult avies that also have child avatars tucked away in their Inventories...as i sell both adult & child avatars. There's too much discrimination about this and that within Second Life....it becomes incredibly boring reading all this familiar diatribe. I get it....and don't dispute it.....your land so it's your rules....the rest however is a nonsense!

Adrian Harbinger wrote: Ziggy21 Slade wrote: So please let us know when you start your legal action against breedable creators - I will be watching with interest That comment is equivalent to saying, "In case of nuclear attack, run in here, it's never been hit." First of all, Ziggy, I think that your rather condescending and snarky tone here does little to bolster your faulty arguments here. Secondly, you can play the semantics game all you like, but I'm pretty sure that if you stole a bunch of poker chips from a Vegas casino, a dollar value would be assigned to your larceny charges. Those plastic chips are representative of legal tender within the venue of the casino and can be readily converted to legal tender both inside and outside of the casino. This is an apt parallel to the function that Linden Dollars serve. They may be traded in and out of Second Life for real US dollars, Yes, Euros, what have you. You can buy them with dollars and sell them for dollars. They are as much legal tender as a bank check, a coupon, stock, etc. I have already stated my view in regard to legal vs ethical issue of the "Breedable" franchises within SL so I am not going to discuss that any further. I simply want to point out to you the obvious fact (supported by the real world precedent I provided in my earlier post which you seem to have dismissed) is that Linden Dollars are equal to their conversion rate to real world US dollars. Just because few people are willing to take a $4.75 grievance to court, it doesn't mean the facts change. Imagine if that grievance was in the millions of Lindens/thousands of US dollars. I am pretty sure that if you were the victim of some SL scam or fraud that involved such sums, you would have a very different view on the matter. A tiny speck of poison won't kill you, but that doesn't mean it's not poison. Depends which part of the world you are from...here in Europe, we don't threaten people with law suits for every discrepancy or misdemeanor....we're not a "Sue" happy culture!

Dahlia Endsleigh wrote: Child avitars don't really weird me out on their own, but when they claim to be of a certain age that an RL kid would be and "tawk wike dis" It makes it hard for me to take them seriously. Now I do not run or ignore a child avi, that is their business to be a child avi, I do however question what makes them desire to be a child in a virtual world that is known for two things: Shopping and sex. Again that is their perogotive. Is it really any different than people shunning Michael Jackson for wanting to relive his childhood? Not really. I find it really hard to believe they are a person wanting to capture the innocence of their youth, when they dress like whores. A shopping Mall in a Mature region (Moderate) is fair game to any kind of Avatar including a child one....in essence you really should not be viewing much Adult content in those Malls in the first instance. SL is known for Sex you say, yet there are only 3300 sims that are registered as Adult out of 30,000 sims.....so about 11% of the Grid that I believe should really be off-limits to any Child Avatar....the rest of the Grid are regulated by sim & land owners according to their own rules & preferences. There are a numerous reasons why adults might want to be a child avatar.........do you ever question the motives of anyone wanting to be a Vampire or a furry Fox or a Dragon or a Tiny or a Fairy or a Elf? Why not? it's your own narrow mindedness that needs examining not the motives of someone choosing such and such Avatar form.

And while not everyone is hyping this as a means of earning an SL living, enough are in various groups and circles all over SL to raise these concerns. Caveat Emptor It's the same as opening your own Shop or a Mall or buying sims and turning it into a rental business......there's no guarantees of profits for any of those. In some cases investing in breedables is less of a monetary risk than the examples i gave.

What a crazy world we live in! :matte-motes-nerdy:
  12. yep...got the wording wrong..it's not unfortunate...their land, their rules....but the rest i won't retract from. I'm tired with all the drama caused over different representations of an Avatar. its the same with all these privacy issues....they're Avatars first & foremost ffs.....they're not exactly handing out RL names and addresses. Some that shout the loudest about privacy...are the same people that broadcast every aspect of their RL on Facebook & Twitter......go figure! I wholeheartedly agree that Kid Avatars should not be allowed on Adult Regions.......but they can if they are adult verified...now how dumb is that?
  13. There are a ton of narrow minded bigots that play Second Life.....has always been the case. They try and impose their thoughts or opinions onto others. Unfortunately if they own the land, you have to abide by their rules.....but it's probably not worth visiting anyways. Just place their location on your own "blacklist" and hand out as a notice to other Children groups.....so that other SLL kiddie avatars are aware to avoid TP'ing to those locations. Some people just love soft targets to assert their dominace over......if Kids Avatars were no longer allowed on Second lIfe...those same narrow minded bigots would probably target Furries or Gorean avatars next. In the first instance this subset cannot grasp what Second Life is suppose to be....and what it means to have a "virtual life" in any desired Avatar form.
  14. Never have Account names & "password" ticked to remember....that should apply right across the Internet. I was caught out twice early last year with my main SL account plus Alt account....fortunately LL responded very quickly and all my stolen funds were returned promptly.
  15. I think the Breedables creators are extremely smart cookies...that found a niche market and filled that gap. I detect that some posters are envious of their success....especially as some have managed to rake in 6 or 7 figure USD incomes. The Breedables market has provided fun & a hobby for 1000's of SL'ers.... so why all this negativity? (I've never dabbled in these products, but I can see the appeal)
  16. Normal service has resumed...another 107 Estate sims fell off the Grid last week. Maybe we should create a "Sweep Stakes" as to when the Grid Total (Estate sims + Mainland sims)....dips below 30k!! Currently stands at 30384. We've lost about 750 sims since 1st of Jan.

  18. Here are the new sections of the policy : http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Second-Life-Viewer/Third-Party-Viewer-Policy-Changes/m-p/1399141 2.a.iii : You must not provide any feature that circumvents any privacy protection option made available through a Linden Lab viewer or any Second Life service. 2.i : You must not display any information regarding the computer system, software, or network connection of any other Second Life user. 2.j : You must not include any information regarding the computer system, software, or network connection of the user in any messages sent to other viewers, except when explicitly elected by the user of your viewer. 2.k : You must not provide any feature that alters the shared experience of the virtual world in any way not provided by or accessible to users of the latest released Linden Lab viewer. Seems reasonable enough! Tthe only point I don't like so much, is the very last point....which stifles innovation in the TPV's
  19. MoiselleErin Teardrop wrote: There is a lawsuit over breedables? Wow, I know SL has brought some lawsuits in RL over things like casinos but now breedables also? I guess those things just are not popular with many SL'ers. There wasn't any lawsuit regarding Casinos, it was just banned grid-wide. The breedables lawsuit is to do with 2 Breedable companies regarding certain IP rights of part of the breeding process i believe.
  20. ...and we're Merchants that are knowledgeable of these proposed Inventory changes.......just imagine the 1000's upon 1000's of poor sods that are totally unaware of what LL are proposing! Total nightmare....and we wonder why retention rates are so low!
  21. I like that idea Porky...i do something similar on a smaller scale...I have Shopping Squares (4 @ 1/4 Sim each), which will have 7 to 9 different stores (some are my satellites), all of which market independently. You get quite a bit of cross traffic that way too..
  22. Yep, in 2006-8 was pure Gold! I had about 50 Mall stores at one point....they alone were making several 100's USD profit per month. My Casino ones were the best......ACE Casino gave me 100 -200 USD clean profit per month, it was awesome....i had another 1/2 dozen or more other stores that were in the 10-25k Linden profit bracket. .
  23. Deja Letov wrote: Marcus that's exactly the reason for my inquiry. I am on a HUGE anti marketplace kick right now. I'm pushing to all my customers that the MP is unreliable and should only be used for search. I am actually in the process right now of custom scripting an entire store catalog of all of my products that you can simply click the page in the catalog and TP right to the item. I too was affected by the V-Day masacre and now I guess you can say I'm on a roll to try and leave MP in the dust and really focus on in world sales. I'm even starting a reward system that will only apply to in world sales. My in world store is definitely on game and doing really well. I pull a profit each week and pay my tier...I guess I'm just trying to increase sales of course but also to ensure that my in world sales begin to surpass my marketplace sales. I've got a whole game plan (or I guess you could call it a marketing plan) and booths or stalls were just part of it. And I hear ya about sims closing down all the time. They are probably the reason I have done so well actually...unfortunately for them. I've seen a ton of my type of stores leave the grid for one reason or another, and every time I see a big one closeup shop, I seem to get an influx of sales. I've been going for 3 years now and while I did downgrade to a half a sim for a short period of time last year, I've been at a full sim the rest of that time and haven't closed up yet. I guess I'm trying to keep a positive outlook. But I am on board with you for pushing away from the MP....it's a rebellion woohoo! yep I agree with yours and Marcus's approach to Marketplace....it's what i've been doing too!

MartinRJ Fayray Martin, how did you CLOSE my JIRA reporting this new, unwanted, unrequested behaviour as a bug? I don't wish to get into debate about whether the JIRA or forum process is most appropriate, i'm just interested in how a resident can close another residents JIRA. I can't close JIRA's. MY guess, Miss Sassy... MartinRJ Fayray = Linden Alt That was my first and strongest assumption..... MartinRJ FayRay has to be a Linden Alt as I am not aware of anyone other than a Linden that has rights to change status of a LL JIRA or to be able to close a JIRA they did not create. I think MartinRJ slipped up and didnt realize he/she was taking action as his Linden Alt. Well if he was able to close a Jira...it would appear that he is an LL alt. Do they employ Austrians?
  25. Freya Mokusei wrote: Yep, I am. And so are LL. By making the Received Items panel separate to the inventory window they're clearly hoping people clean this regularly. Previously there was no incentive to do so, as the Objects folder was more obscured, and 'didn't matter' if it was a mess. LL's challenge is making sure the incentive is there to keep it clean. This isn't a new challenge, but it IS a new incentive. The tidier and smaller your inventory, the less of a burden you are on LL's servers. Now you know, that's just isn't going to happen...it's just unrealistic. We're dealing with human beings with their own unique human behavioural patterns.....they are not automated Bots. Freya Mokusei wrote: Inventory search isn't a rear-end solution for these huge database calls. Sure it helps the resident find what they're after, but by doing a large-scale scan on your inventory you're not being server-friendly. As I say, my opinion is that this new process will help. As for 'adequate tools', 'filters' 'recent items' etc etc, they don't work as cleanly and are for more burdensome to use. The process is clunky and out-dated, and makes no sense to new users. Received Items mirrors other more modern approaches to asset-handling. Mumbo-jumbo that! The "Show filters" option is dead easy to use....it sure less work than going through your "Received Items" folder nearly every other day....and moving items to correct folders in the Main Inventory tree. Just because it's deemed to be a modern approach...doesn't necessary imply it's the best solution for the SL Inventory management.
